Fundamental and extended multi-objective (MO) models are designed to address earliness/tardiness production scheduling planning (ETPSP) problems with multi-process capacity balance, multi-product production and lot-size consideration. A canonical genetic algorithm (GA) approach and a prospective multi-objective GA (MOGA) approach are proposed as solutions for different practical problems. Simulation results as well as comparisons with other techniques demonstrate the effectiveness of the MOGA approach, which is a noted improvement to any of the existing techniques, and also in practice provides a new trend of integrating manufacturing resource planning (MRPII) with just-in-time (JIT) in the production planning procedure.  相似文献

Amongst factors such as quick changeovers and workforce flexibility, managers in 533 UK manufacturing plants ranked a responsive planning and control system as the most important facilitator of good delivery performance on products made-to-order or assembled-to-order. The rankings indicate greater importance to companies in the Household and Engineering sectors than in Process and Electronics, where other factors are dominant. These results are combined with data such as customer lead times and item variety, to characterize and explain differences between the plants in these four sectors. Collectively the results indicate considerable differences in the production planning and control tasks. This implies that general statements on the importance of planning and control systems are inadequate. Practitioners need contextual information in order to ascertain when research is applicable to their circumstances.  相似文献

We consider the production process of a manufacturing workcell. Production items obtained from an outside supplier are not processed adequately as far as their quality is concerned. Production items meeting the required quality depend on the workcell state, which degrades according to the number of produced items. The workcell is completely restored by some restoring operations leading to its as-new condition. The method of deriving the restoration period, which leads to the maximum probability that produced items meet the required quality, is introduced. It is based on the nontraditional approach, i.e. on the simplest strategies method for the formulation of the problem presented here. The implementation of this optimization approach is illustrated with an example.  相似文献

This article describes the production planning and control techniques used at Verbatim Computer Disk Company in Charlotte, NC. The factory operates by management policy on a 24 hours-per-day, 7 days-per-week, 363 days-peryear, basis as if it were a process industry. Production of discrete units, computer disks, follows repetitive manufacturing methods including the implementation of just-in-time JIT methods into an existing material requirements planning MRP system. Production is based on the actual customer orders received from Marketing for disks from both US customers and international markets. Marketing uses price adjustments in coordination with Production Planning to ensure the factories operate at 100 capacity and within predefined inventory levels. This article discusses the relationship between Marketing and Manufacturing which allows for the attainment of a process industry-like economies of scale for a line of discrete products. Key characteristics of the production planning and control system are identified as are the current operating problems.  相似文献

In a discrete parts manufacturing environment, it is necessary to compensate for the decreasing planned batch size resulting from production of scrap (defectives) in the production line, by increasing the planned production volume. This calls for a revision in the initially computed manufacturing lead time (MLT). A survey of the literature reveals that although issues related to product quantity regeneration have been studied in detail, little has been done to assess the impact on manufacturing lead times. This paper discusses the impact of scrap on manufacturing lead time in a shop with an intermittent-flow, bath-oriented, discrete-parts manufacturing environment, producing make-to-stock items.  相似文献

The paper presents the main routines of production and inventory control at ABB Motors, Västerås and Volvo Wheel Loaders, Eskilstuna. The primary interest is to present how Material Requirements Planning (MRP) is used in these two companies. If the number of end items is large, the company assembles-to-order or makes-to-order then additions to pure MRP seem to be necessary. ABB Motors and Volvo Wheel Loader use: planning bills, a normal bill of materials with 'adding bills of materials', a master production schedule planning system with an available-to-promise function and a home-made 'system' for modules available-to-promise. One important measure for the both companies is the accumulative lead-time. An increase of the Master Production Schedule in a shorter time than the accumulative lead-time is avoided, because it will lead to suggestions of purchase in past time periods and therefore most probably to future material shortages.  相似文献

Previous research on material requirements planning (MRP) systems has rarely considered the impact of the master production scheduling method used to promise customer orders and to allocate production capacity. Based on a simulation study of an MRP environment, we show that the correct selection of a master production schedule (MPS) method depends on the variance of end-item demand. In addition, we find evidence that the effectiveness of a particular MPS method can be enhanced by holding buffer inventory at the same level in the product structure as in the MPS.  相似文献

The paper presents a hierarchical framework for production control of hospitals which deals with the balance between service and efficiency, at all levels of planning and control. The framework is based on an analysis of the design requirements for hospital production control systems. These design requirements are translated into the control functions at different levels of planning required for hospital production control. The framework consists of five levels of planning and control: patient planning and control, patient group planning and control, resources planning and control, patient volumes planning and control and strategic planning, though this last level does not make part of production control as such. Each of the levels of the framework is further elaborated in terms of the decisions made regarding patient flows and resources, and the co-ordination of the different planning levels. Implications of the framework are discussed by describing some points where current practice deviates from assumptions made in our approach. Recommendations for future research and development of the planning framework are formulated.  相似文献

In this paper we extend the ELSP model to allow for linearly changing demand rates over a fixed planning horizon. This extension of the ELSP research provides a model that can be used in coordinating the production and marketing planning activities in a firm. The model allows the user to evaluate the impact of changes in product demand on production costs and customer service. We solve the model using a standard nonlinear programming package (MINOS) and show through examples based on actual production data how the model can be used to support coordinated production and marketing planning.  相似文献

Closing product and material cycles have emerged as a paradigm for industry in the 21st century, and are directed towards an economical and responsible use of our limited resources. Disassembly plays a key role in recycling. It enables the recovery of functioning components for re-use of pure materials for re-utilization and the separation of harmful substances. Major challenges are presented by the enormous variety of products to be disassembled, by uncertainty as to quantity and by their unknown properties. An appropriate planning and control of disassembly processes is essential for an economic disassembly. Based on an investigation of the suitability of common production planning and control (PPC) methods for disassembly, a specific disassembly planning and control concept (DPC) is outlined.  相似文献

Computerized MRP systems used in industrial practice have been criticized by researchers as well as industrial users with respect to their limited ability to generate feasible production schedules. In this paper the lot size planning stage of a typical MRP system is considered. Several modelling alternatives for multi-level lot sizing are discussed with the help of a small example. A resourceconstrained approach to lot sizing- called MRP rc- is presented that cooperates with standard production planning and control systems. In this approach the item-by-item lot size planning is substituted by the heuristic solution of a multi-level multi-item dynamic capacitated lot sizing problem with setup times for general product structures.  相似文献

The role of a process engineer (PE) is vital in a high-technology organization. Generic manpower-planning approaches, such as regression or mathematical programming methods, are difficult to apply to PE manpower-planning problem. A simple production-volume to staffing-level ratio did not properly reflect the required PE staffing needs. This research considered both production volume and complexity to plan the required PE staffing level. Production complexity is an indicator of the amount of PE attendance time, and this is innovatively evaluated in the present study using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Two heuristics based on branch and bound (B&B) are developed to solve closed-loop material requirements planning (MRP) lot-sizing problems that have general product structures and variable costs. A “look ahead method'’(LAM) heuristic allows for variable production/purchasing costs and uses a single-level B&B procedure to rapidly improve lower bound values; thus, LAM efficiently uses computer-storage capacity and allows solution of larger problems. The “total average modification'’(TAM) heuristic uses B&B, applied level by level, and modified setup and carrying costs to solve the variable production/purchasing costs MRP lot-sizing problem. LAM and TAM are tested on problems and compared to heuristics in the literature. TAM may be used to solve large MRP lot-sizing problems encountered in practice.  相似文献

This research compares Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Kanban, and Period Batch Control (PBC) as alternative approaches to the planning and control of multi-cell manufacturing involving flow cells and assembly. Since previous research on performance of these systems in cellular manufacturing has been primarily conceptual, the experiments reported here provide new insights into their comparative performance. The results show that the production environment is a major factor in system choice. Three operating factors—Master Production Schedule (MPS) volume variation, MPS mix variation, and setup time/lot size—clearly affect system choice. All systems performed well under Justin-Time (JIT) conditions; there was no advantage to Kanban. Under the mixed conditions of high MPS variation, but small setup time/lot sizes, PBC produced superior performance compared to Kanban and MRP. Under non-JIT conditions, MRP was seen as clearly more effective. Finally, the results indicate that when conditions permit very small lot sizes relative to requirements, Kanban may perform best, even when MPS variation is high.  相似文献

This paper describes a simulation experiment to evaluate the relative effectiveness of rescheduling policies in capacity-constrained, just-in-time (JIT) make-to-stock production environments. Three performance measures were analyzed: average finished goods inventory, total units of sales lost, and a measure of schedule instability. Among the three loading methods we studied (level loading, front loading, and back loading), none was superior across all three performance measures. Level loading was the most robust, while back loading had an interaction effect with forecasting model and capacity level. Time fence scenario was found not to be as significant a factor in system performance as reported by previous research. Once an acceptable time fence scenario is selected, attempts to optimize this factor do not appear to offer significant improvement. It was found that higher demand variation, larger forecast errors, and tight capacity lead to the degradation of system performance. Judicious use of slack capacity helps a system to incorporate the periodic schedule changes typical of JIT systems.  相似文献
