This research analyzed the 100 most popular songs (1958–1998) for artist characteristics and expression of love. In the 1990s women and black artists recorded more hits than in earlier periods. Over time, references to love in lyrics performed by women artists decreased. References to sex in lyrics peaked during 1976–1984 when women used sexual references five times more than men; however, during 1991–1998, men used more sexual references. Later songs and songs performed by white, female artists expressed greater selfishness. The quality of love expressed in lyrics remained the same. Results are discussed relative to cultural change.  相似文献

This article focuses on cases studies where artists prepare, display, and serve food to audiences both within museums and galleries, and in less formalized settings. A brief overview of gastronomic art practices is provided. Surrealism (Salvador Dalì, Meret Oppenheim), Italian Futurism, and the Food Art movement (Daniel Spoerri) in Germany are discussed in relation to contemporary practices by Karen Tam and collaborative duo Hannah Jickling and Helen Reed. These case studies deliberately harness the materiality of food and, in so doing, occasion bodily, gustatory experiences for their audiences. Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett’s text “Playing to the Senses: Food as a Performance Medium” (1999) provides a theoretical framework for the discussion.  相似文献

This paper reports an experiment designed to test whether prior consultation within a group affects subsequent individual decision-making in tasks where demonstrability of correct solutions is low. In our experiment, subjects considered two paintings created by two different artists and were asked to guess which artist made each painting. We observed answers given by individuals under two treatments: In one, subjects were allowed the opportunity to consult with other participants before making their private decisions; in the other, there was no such opportunity. Our primary findings are that subjects in the first treatment evaluate the opportunity to consult positively, but they perform significantly worse and earn significantly less.  相似文献

This paper analyses the determinants of professional artists' unemployment. A sample of 1030 Australian artists was examined to determine the relationship between the probability of unemployment and artistic profession, education, origin and other demographic covariates. Special attention is focussed on factors influencing the probability of long‐term unemployment. It is found that artists in Australia are a heterogeneous labour market group, as regards exposure to unemployment and long‐term unemployment risk. The probability of unemployment episodes varies significantly depending on the artistic occupation: community cultural development workers, actors and directors are most likely to experience unemployment, while musicians and craftspeople are the least likely. Youth, disability, living in a capital city or in Tasmania, South Australia, Victoria or New South Wales, as well as level of tertiary education, can all increase the likelihood of unemployment episodes. On the other hand, participation in formal training in the artistic profession and living in a relationship or marriage are associated with a lower probability of unemployment. Being a writer or visual artist, living in the Northern Territory, and lower levels of education can increase the probability of experiencing long‐term unemployment. Neither gender, nor origin nor age affects the risk of long‐term unemployment of Australian artists.  相似文献

民国时期著名的艺术史家滕固对艺术所持的观点与同期的其他艺术研究者相比有着显著的不同.他研究旨趣突破了艺术的外部研究,转而注重艺术本身的研究,将研究的立足点放在了艺术作品自身,看重艺术自身的发展规律,强调艺术自身的独立自主.滕固的这种独立自主的艺术观念主要通过其“艺术自律性”的艺术本体论、“敏锐的风格分析”的艺术认识论和审美价值判断的重新确立三个方面来得以体现.这种独立自主的艺术观念,不仅体现了现代艺术学发展的新趋向,而且为现代艺术学的发展提供了方向及思想基础.  相似文献

The Jam Session     
This experiment describes a spontaneous jazz performance and shows that the jam session can be a useful tool for studying small groups. To determine why and how it works, the author brought together five jazz musicians and gave them three musical tasks. They also participated in a post-performance discussion and filled out a questionnaire to elicit their feelings about the workings of a jam session. The jam session may be a unique group because of the speed with which it coalesces and its use of nonverbal communication, but it also exhibits classic characteristics of small group sociology by conforming to several basic small-group models and principles.  相似文献

Clinical synesthesia is commonly defined as the experience of having perceptions in one sensory modality triggered by a stimulus from another. This paper adopts a particular orientation toward synesthesia, exploring it as a cultural phenomenon common to us all, as an ability that can be learnt instead of an accidental neurological condition. If synesthesia is both a capacity that we are not fully aware of and a way to access what is stored in memory even at the unconscious level, can art help us to bring this awareness back? Bearing upon a close reading of selected artworks created by Johannes Deutsch, a multi-media artist who has been experimenting with synesthesia, the paper argues that synesthesia can become a tool in the hands of contemporary artists to revitalize the Wagnerian ideal of a “total work of art”. This is to be understood as a politics of the senses based on communality rather than individualism, not as an ideology of totalitarian tendencies. Ultimately, the transformative potential of certain art resides in its capacity to foster a pedagogy of the image that is based upon multi-sensoriality, memory and history.  相似文献

Sociocultural differences in children's use and understanding of emotional display rules have been under-researched. In the present study, 56 Dutch and 56 Iranian children aged 10–11 years took part in a structured interview about their experiences of using emotional display rules. In comparison with the Dutch children, the Iranian sample was more likely to report having actually used emotional display rules themselves, more likely to identify family audiences for display rules, and less likely to identify peer audiences. In addition, they were more likely than the Dutch children to identify both prosocial and self-protective motives for concealing emotion from family audiences, and less likely to identify self-protective motives for concealing emotion from peers. Results are interpreted in the light of socialization processes involved in the development of emotion regulation.  相似文献

文艺的主体性原则由近代启蒙运动创建。毛泽东的《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》对文艺主体性的释读显然具有积极的超越性和重大的重建性。如何使文学艺术家了解人民、熟悉人民,不单是一个实践问题,也是一个重大的理论问题。毛泽东对此问题的见解超越了当时一切马克思主义文艺理论权威,对今天现代性视域中重建文学艺术家与现实生活关系,文学艺术家与人民大众关系的理解仍具有范式意义。《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》不仅代表了东方马克思主义创建文艺主体性、重建现代性文化理解的强劲而富有个性的声音,而且也是对西方马克思主义无法突围自身传统和语境的超越。在当代马克思主义全球化语境中,对《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》的现代性研究具有极为重要的当下文化意义。  相似文献

Sonic Envelopes     
ABSTRACT

This article examines ways in which an individual's experiences of spatial environments are informed by physical and psychic perceptions of sound. It explores how sonic images, memories, voices, spaces and events constitute “sonic envelopes.” These aesthetic figures are developed out of the late-nineteenth-century writings by the philosopher Henri Bergson and from contemporary audio-walks by the artist, Janet Cardiff. Each shows that sound, space and time are embodied in the individual's powers of sensory perception. Bergson and Cardiff's sonic envelopes may therefore enable reevaluations of the relationships between sound, space and time that connect the individual to his or her environment.  相似文献

Decisionists use decision/choice concepts to understand and represent X: bees, Deep Blue, and Ron Carter make decisions. Explicit decisionists argue that X should be understood and represented using decision/choice concepts: it's correct to speak of bees', computers', and jazz improvisers' decision‐making. Explicit anti‐decisionists disagree: bees, computers, jazz improvisers, algorithms, and drug addicts aren't correctly understood and represented as decision‐makers. Sociologists look at decisionism and explicit decisionism as social phenomena, which show up in discourses, practices, technologies, and organizations. I make a contribution to the sociology of decisionism and the sociology of morality by examining three kinds of explicit moral anti‐decisionism: Murdochian, sociological/structural, and Confucian/Daoist. I show why these discontents are discontent, what theories and evidence they draw on, what assumptions they make, and how they conceive of morality without decision/choice concepts. Then, I consider how moral anti‐decisionism might matter, how the sociology of decisionism might matter, and where to go from here (if anywhere).  相似文献

在国际竞争和海外利益驱使下,独具特色的英国文化外交起步于20世纪30年代。数十年来,英国文化外交并不满足于语言、对象和机构设置上的比较优势,而是适时将外交动因从文化帝国主义调整为文化国际主义,不断扩展文化的内涵,并在重视精英路线的基础上努力开拓大众路线。英国以比较优势为后盾,积极创新文化外交的实践特色,将其文化、政治价值观和外交政策三种资源有效地转化为软实力,使得英国的"帝国余晖"仍深刻地影响着世界。英国通过文化外交的路径提升国家软实力的成功经验,值得中国借鉴。  相似文献
