From the sequential observation of a multidimensional continuous time Gaussian process, whose mean vector depends linearly of a multidimensional parameter, we consider the confidential estimation of the parameter value and the testing problem of a simple hypothesis about the parameter, in presence of a nuisance variance parameter. The method is based on a previously obtained [cf. 4] point estimate for the case of a known covariance structure. We first see that this estimate is, in fact, independent of the variance parameter. For the hypotheses testing problem, the invariance under certain groups of transformations and the partial sufficiency allows to construct optimal terminal tests. Furthermore we determine the observation time necessary to control its power function. These testing results may be translated in terms of most accurate confidence sets. If the observation is stopped according to the diameter of the confidence set, under some condition, the confidence level is preserved.  相似文献

We consider a continuous-time model for the evolution of social networks. A social network is here conceived as a (di-) graph on a set of vertices, representing actors, and the changes of interest are creation and disappearance over time of (arcs) edges in the graph. Hence we model a collection of random edge indicators that are not, in general, independent. We explicitly model the interdependencies between edge indicators that arise from interaction between social entities. A Markov chain is defined in terms of an embedded chain with holding times and transition probabilities. Data are observed at fixed points in time and hence we are not able to observe the embedded chain directly. Introducing a prior distribution for the parameters we may implement an MCMC algorithm for exploring the posterior distribution of the parameters by simulating the evolution of the embedded process between observations.  相似文献

It is important that the proportion of true null hypotheses be estimated accurately in a multiple hypothesis context. Current estimation methods, however, are not suitable for high-dimensional data such as microarray data. First, they do not consider the (strong) dependence between hypotheses (or genes), thereby resulting in inaccurate estimation. Second, the unknown distribution of false null hypotheses cannot be estimated properly by these methods. Third, the estimation is affected strongly by outliers. In this paper, we find out the optimal procedure for estimating the proportion of true null hypotheses under a (strong) dependence based on the Dirichlet process prior. In addition, by using the minimum Hellinger distance, the estimation should be robust to any model misspecification as well as to any outliers while maintaining efficiency. The results are confirmed by a simulation study, and the newly developed methodology is illustrated by a real microarray data.  相似文献

Time series of counts occur in many different contexts, the counts being usually of certain events or objects in specified time intervals. In this paper we introduce a model called parameter-driven state-space model to analyse integer-valued time series data. A key property of such model is that the distribution of the observed count data is independent, conditional on the latent process, although the observations are correlated marginally. Our simulation shows that the Monte Carlo Expectation Maximization (MCEM) algorithm and the particle method are useful for the parameter estimation of the proposed model. In the application to Malaysia dengue data, our model fits better when compared with several other models including that of Yang et al. (2015)  相似文献

Composite likelihood inference has gained much popularity thanks to its computational manageability and its theoretical properties. Unfortunately, performing composite likelihood ratio tests is inconvenient because of their awkward asymptotic distribution. There are many proposals for adjusting composite likelihood ratio tests in order to recover an asymptotic chi-square distribution, but they all depend on the sensitivity and variability matrices. The same is true for Wald-type and score-type counterparts. In realistic applications, sensitivity and variability matrices usually need to be estimated, but there are no comparisons of the performance of composite likelihood-based statistics in such an instance. A comparison of the accuracy of inference based on the statistics considering two methods typically employed for estimation of sensitivity and variability matrices, namely an empirical method that exploits independent observations, and Monte Carlo simulation, is performed. The results in two examples involving the pairwise likelihood show that a very large number of independent observations should be available in order to obtain accurate coverages using empirical estimation, while limited simulation from the full model provides accurate results regardless of the availability of independent observations. This suggests the latter as a default choice, whenever simulation from the model is possible.  相似文献

In this article, we explore hypothesis testing problems related to correlated proportions from clustered matched-pair binary data. Null hypotheses of equality in proportions, homogeneity, and non-inferiority of one to another are similar testing problems of linear contrasts of correlated proportions with suitable transformation. The covariance estimators of the test statistics are based on moment estimation under the null hypotheses. We present a general framework for testing linear contrasts of the correlated proportions from clustered matched-pair data based upon a class of unbiased estimators of the proportions. The corresponding testing procedures do not impose structure assumptions on the correlation matrix and are easy to use. Simulation results suggest that the proposed method is more likely to maintain the proper significance level and to improve power than the test proposed by Obuchowski.  相似文献

We consider the variance estimation of the weighted likelihood estimator (WLE) under two‐phase stratified sampling without replacement. Asymptotic variance of the WLE in many semiparametric models contains unknown functions or does not have a closed form. The standard method of the inverse probability weighted (IPW) sample variances of an estimated influence function is then not available in these models. To address this issue, we develop the variance estimation procedure for the WLE in a general semiparametric model. The phase I variance is estimated by taking a numerical derivative of the IPW log likelihood. The phase II variance is estimated based on the bootstrap for a stratified sample in a finite population. Despite a theoretical difficulty of dependent observations due to sampling without replacement, we establish the (bootstrap) consistency of our estimators. Finite sample properties of our method are illustrated in a simulation study.  相似文献

Lack of fit tests based on groupings of the observations are developed. These tests are first applied to models with replication. In this case, the classic Fisher test assumes that the true model is contained in the one-way ANOVA model. However, Christensen [(2003). Significantly insignificant F tests. Amer. Statist. 57, 27–32] has noted that small values of the F-statistic may indicate lack of fit due to features which are not part of the proposed model. Such model inadequacy is called within-cluster lack of fit, whereas the standard Fisher lack of fit is called between-cluster lack of fit. Typically, lack of fit exists as a combination of these two pure types, and can be extremely difficult to detect depending on the nature of the mixture. In this paper, the one-way ANOVA model is embedded in larger models using groupings of the observations, which provides tests with good power for detecting all of the above types of model inadequacies, including mixtures. In particular, several such tests are considered, each based on a different grouping of the observations, and the multiple testing approach of Baraud et al. [(2003). Adaptive tests of linear hypotheses by model selection. Ann. Statist. 31, 225–251] is followed. More generally, the preceding testing procedure based on families of groupings is extended to the case of nonreplication. For this case, it is proposed that such families be determined by linear orders on the predictors based on disjoint parallel tubes in predictor space. Test statistics follow the cluster-based regression lack of fit tests presented by Christensen [(1989). Lack of fit based on near or exact replicates. Ann. Statist. 17, 673–683; (1991). Small sample characterizations of near replicate lack of fit tests. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 86, 752–756], by considering the groupings as determining special types of clusterings. In order to detect general lack of fit, several such tests are again considered, each based on a different grouping of the observations, and the multiple testing approach given by Baraud et al. [(2003). Adaptive tests of linear hypotheses by model selection. Ann. Statist. 31, 225–251] is followed. Simulation results illustrating the power of the proposed testing procedure are given.  相似文献

In this paper we considered a generalized additive model with second-order interaction terms. A local scoring algorithm (with backfitting) based on local linear kernel smoothers was used to estimate the model. Our main aim was to obtain procedures for testing second-order interaction terms. Backfitting theory is difficult in this context, and a bootstrap procedure is therefore provided for estimating the distribution of the test statistics. Given the high computational cost involved, binning techniques were used to speed up the computation in the estimation and testing process. A simulation study was carried out in order to assess the validity of the bootstrap-based tests. Lastly, our method was applied to real data drawn from an SO2 binary time series.  相似文献

A unified approach is developed for testing hypotheses in the general linear model based on the ranks of the residuals. It complements the nonparametric estimation procedures recently reported in the literature. The testing and estimation procedures together provide a robust alternative to least squares. The methods are similar in spirit to least squares so that results are simple to interpret. Hypotheses concerning a subset of specified parameters can be tested, while the remaining parameters are treated as nuisance parameters. Asymptotically, the test statistic is shown to have a chi-square distribution under the null hypothesis. This result is then extended to cover a sequence of contiguous alternatives from which the Pitman efficacy is derived. The general application of the test requires the consistent estimation of a functional of the underlying distribution and one such estimate is furnished.  相似文献

The problem of choosing the loss function in the Bayesian problem of many hypotheses testing is considered. It is shown that linear and quadratic loss functions are the most-used ones. For any kind of loss function, the risk function in the Bayesian problem of many hypotheses testing contains the errors of two kinds. The Bayesian decision rule minimizes the total effect of these errors. The share of each of them in the optimal value of risk function is unknown. When solving many important problems, the results caused by different errors significantly differ from each other. Therefore, it is necessary to guarantee the limitation on the most undesirable kind of these errors and to minimize the errors of the second kind. For solving these problems, this article are states and solves conditional Bayesian tasks of testing many hypotheses. The results of sensitivity analysis of the classical and conditional Bayesian problems are given and their advantages and drawbacks are considered.  相似文献

We use Owen's (1988, 1990) empirical likelihood method in upgraded mixture models. Two groups of independent observations are available. One is z 1, ..., z n which is observed directly from a distribution F ( z ). The other one is x 1, ..., x m which is observed indirectly from F ( z ), where the x i s have density ∫ p ( x | z ) dF ( z ) and p ( x | z ) is a conditional density function. We are interested in testing H 0: p ( x | z ) = p ( x | z ; θ ), for some specified smooth density function. A semiparametric likelihood ratio based statistic is proposed and it is shown that it converges to a chi-squared distribution. This is a simple method for doing goodness of fit tests, especially when x is a discrete variable with finitely many values. In addition, we discuss estimation of θ and F ( z ) when H 0 is true. The connection between upgraded mixture models and general estimating equations is pointed out.  相似文献

Analytical methods for interval estimation of differences between variances have not been described. A simple analytical method is given for interval estimation of the difference between variances of two independent samples. It is shown, using simulations, that confidence intervals generated with this method have close to nominal coverage even when sample sizes are small and unequal and observations are highly skewed and leptokurtic, provided the difference in variances is not very large. The method is also adapted for testing the hypothesis of no difference between variances. The test is robust but slightly less powerful than Bonett's test with small samples.  相似文献

In this study we investigate the problem of estimation and testing of hypotheses in multivariate linear regression models when the errors involved are assumed to be non-normally distributed. We consider the class of heavy-tailed distributions for this purpose. Although our method is applicable for any distribution in this class, we take the multivariate t-distribution for illustration. This distribution has applications in many fields of applied research such as Economics, Business, and Finance. For estimation purpose, we use the modified maximum likelihood method in order to get the so-called modified maximum likelihood estimates that are obtained in a closed form. We show that these estimates are substantially more efficient than least-square estimates. They are also found to be robust to reasonable deviations from the assumed distribution and also many data anomalies such as the presence of outliers in the sample, etc. We further provide test statistics for testing the relevant hypothesis regarding the regression coefficients.  相似文献

This article considers multiple hypotheses testing with the generalized familywise error rate k-FWER control, which is the probability of at least k false rejections. We first assume the p-values corresponding to the true null hypotheses are independent, and propose adaptive generalized Bonferroni procedure with k-FWER control based on the estimation of the number of true null hypotheses. Then, we assume the p-values are dependent, satisfying block dependence, and propose adaptive procedure with k-FWER control. Extensive simulations compare the performance of the adaptive procedures with different estimators.  相似文献

Partially linear models provide a useful class of tools for modeling complex data by naturally incorporating a combination of linear and nonlinear effects within one framework. One key question in partially linear models is the choice of model structure, that is, how to decide which covariates are linear and which are nonlinear. This is a fundamental, yet largely unsolved problem for partially linear models. In practice, one often assumes that the model structure is given or known and then makes estimation and inference based on that structure. Alternatively, there are two methods in common use for tackling the problem: hypotheses testing and visual screening based on the marginal fits. Both methods are quite useful in practice but have their drawbacks. First, it is difficult to construct a powerful procedure for testing multiple hypotheses of linear against nonlinear fits. Second, the screening procedure based on the scatterplots of individual covariate fits may provide an educated guess on the regression function form, but the procedure is ad hoc and lacks theoretical justifications. In this article, we propose a new approach to structure selection for partially linear models, called the LAND (Linear And Nonlinear Discoverer). The procedure is developed in an elegant mathematical framework and possesses desired theoretical and computational properties. Under certain regularity conditions, we show that the LAND estimator is able to identify the underlying true model structure correctly and at the same time estimate the multivariate regression function consistently. The convergence rate of the new estimator is established as well. We further propose an iterative algorithm to implement the procedure and illustrate its performance by simulated and real examples. Covariance matrices, or in general matrices of sums of squares and cross-products, are used as input in many multivariate analyses techniques. The eigenvalues of these matrices play an important role in the statistical analysis of data including estimation and hypotheses testing. It has been recognized that one or few observations can exert an undue influence on the eigenvalues of a covariance matrix. The relationship between the eigenvalues of the covariance matrix computed from all data and the eigenvalues of the perturbed covariance matrix (a covariance matrix computed after a small subset of the observations has been deleted) cannot in general be written in closed-form. Two methods for approximating the eigenvalues of a perturbed covariance matrix have been suggested by Hadi (1988) and Wang and Nyquist (1991) for the case of a perturbation by a single observation. In this paper we improve on these two methods and give some additional theoretical results that may give further insight into the problem. We also compare the two improved approximations in terms of their accuracies.  相似文献

We construct an integer-valued stationary symmetric AR(1) process which can have either a positive or a negative lag-one autocorrelation. Nearly all integer-valued time series models are designed for observations which are non-negative integers or counts. They have innovations which are distributed on the non-negative integers and therefore obviously non-symmetric. We build our model using innovations that come from the difference of two independent identically distributed Poisson random variables. These innovations have a symmetric distribution, which has many advantages; in particular, they will allow us to model negative correlations. For our AR(1) process, we examine its basic properties and consider estimation via conditional least squares.  相似文献

In this paper we present an indirect estimation procedure for (ARFIMA) fractional time series models. The estimation method is based on an ‘incorrect’criterion which does not directly provide a consistent estimator of the parameters of interest, but leads to correct inference by using simulations.

The main steps are the following. First,we consider an auxiliary model which can be easily estimated.Specifically,we choose the finite lag Autoregressive model. Then, this is estimated on the observations and simulated values drawn from the ARFIMA model associated with a given value of the parameters of interest. Finally, the latter is calibrated in order to obtain close values of the two estimators of the auxiliary parameters.

In this article,we describe the estimation procedure and compare the performance of the indirect estimator with some alternative estimators based on the likelihood function by a Monte Carlo study.  相似文献
