A writer's choice in the narrator is crucial for the way a work of fiction is perceived by the reader. It governs the reader's access to the story and determines just how much he can know at any given moment about what is taking place. If you alter or change the point of view, you could alter and change the story.  相似文献

In this article I explore the links between the form and content of narratives collected from a young Malagasy/French woman, named Soa, who has recently moved from Madagascar to France. Soa's self‐account is riddled with stories that point out the ambiguities inherent in her experience of life as a woman with feet, and obligations, in two worlds at once. Rather than indicating her confusion or uncertainty, it is argued here that these stories, and the form in which they are presented, indicate the sort of ironic stance that may well be the prerogative of transnational, millionétisse narrators like Soa.  相似文献

This article focuses on the learning that is enabled while a primary school child makes a story using multimodal software. This child is diagnosed with autism. The aim is to use a cultural-historical framework to carry out an in-depth analysis of a process of learning with action as a unit of analysis. The article is based on a collaborative research project in which assignments on narration concurrently served as experiments with cultural tools. The child's learning process in one assignment is analyzed sequentially, highlighting changes in the action, based on data from videotape. The child's decision to record audio was a turning point that expanded the formal learning and animated the idea of making the story in a desired multimodal format. The multifaceted quality and the dialectics revealed in the process are vital to achieve expansive action and learning. The combination of a generative narrative model and the multimodal affordances is crucial for actualizing the potential in the research approach to accomplish an analysis of the learner's changes in action. Thus, the study indicates the relevance of using a cultural-historical framework in research and practice that focuses on processes of learning and processes of becoming among diverse learners.  相似文献

Abstract

Objective: Lack of sleep among college students negatively impacts health and academic outcomes. Building on research that implied motion imagery increases brain activity, this project tested visual design strategies to increase viewers’ engagement with a health communication campaign promoting napping to improve sleep habits. Participants: Participants (N = 194) were recruited from a large southwestern university in October 2012. Methods: Utilizing an experimental design, participants were assigned to 1 of 3 conditions: an implied motion superhero spokes-character, a static superhero spokes-character, and a control group. Results: The use of implied motion did not achieve the hypothesized effect on message elaboration, but superheroes are a promising persuasive tool for health promotion campaigns for college audiences. Conclusions: Implications for sleep health promotion campaigns and the role of implied motion in message design strategies are discussed, as well as future directions for research on the depiction of implied motion as it relates to theoretical development.  相似文献
