ABSTRACT

In this paper, we propose a parameter estimation method for the three-parameter lognormal distribution based on Type-II right censored data. In the proposed method, under mild conditions, the estimates always exist uniquely in the entire parameter space, and the estimators also have consistency over the entire parameter space. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we further show that the proposed method performs very well compared to a prominent method of estimation in terms of bias and root mean squared error (RMSE) in small-sample situations. Finally, two examples based on real data sets are presented for illustrating the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a method of estimation of parameters and quantiles of the three-parameter gamma distribution based on Type-II right-censored data. In the proposed method, under mild conditions, the estimates always exist uniquely, and the estimators have consistency over the entire parameter space. Through Monte Carlo simulations, we further show that the proposed method performs well compared with another prominent method of estimation in terms of bias and root mean-squared error in small-sample situations. Finally, two real data sets are used for illustrating the proposed method.  相似文献

Fuzzy least-square regression can be very sensitive to unusual data (e.g., outliers). In this article, we describe how to fit an alternative robust-regression estimator in fuzzy environment, which attempts to identify and ignore unusual data. The proposed approach concerns classical robust regression and estimation methods that are insensitive to outliers. In this regard, based on the least trimmed square estimation method, an estimation procedure is proposed for determining the coefficients of the fuzzy regression model for crisp input-fuzzy output data. The investigated fuzzy regression model is applied to bedload transport data forecasting suspended load by discharge based on a real world data. The accuracy of the proposed method is compared with the well-known fuzzy least-square regression model. The comparison results reveal that the fuzzy robust regression model performs better than the other models in suspended load estimation for the particular dataset. This comparison is done based on a similarity measure between fuzzy sets. The proposed model is general and can be used for modeling natural phenomena whose available observations are reported as imprecise rather than crisp.  相似文献

In biomedical studies, correlated failure time data arise often. Although point and confidence interval estimation for quantiles with independent censored failure time data have been extensively studied, estimation for quantiles with correlated failure time data has not been developed. In this article, we propose a nonparametric estimation method for quantiles with correlated failure time data. We derive the asymptotic properties of the quantile estimator and propose confidence interval estimators based on the bootstrap and kernel smoothing methods. Simulation studies are carried out to investigate the finite sample properties of the proposed estimators. Finally, we illustrate the proposed method with a data set from a study of patients with otitis media.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate a new estimation approach for the partially linear single-index model based on modal regression method, where the non parametric function is estimated by penalized spline method. Moreover, we develop an expection maximum (EM)-type algorithm and establish the large sample properties of the proposed estimation method. A distinguishing characteristic of the newly proposed estimation is robust against outliers through introducing an additional tuning parameter which can be automatically selected using the observed data. Simulation studies and real data example are used to evaluate the finite-sample performance, and the results show that the newly proposed method works very well.  相似文献

In this paper, a new estimation procedure based on composite quantile regression and functional principal component analysis (PCA) method is proposed for the partially functional linear regression models (PFLRMs). The proposed estimation method can simultaneously estimate both the parametric regression coefficients and functional coefficient components without specification of the error distributions. The proposed estimation method is shown to be more efficient empirically for non-normal random error, especially for Cauchy error, and almost as efficient for normal random errors. Furthermore, based on the proposed estimation procedure, we use the penalized composite quantile regression method to study variable selection for parametric part in the PFLRMs. Under certain regularity conditions, consistency, asymptotic normality, and Oracle property of the resulting estimators are derived. Simulation studies and a real data analysis are conducted to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

Summary.  The paper develops a data augmentation method to estimate the distribution function of a variable, which is partially observed, under a non-ignorable missing data mechanism, and where surrogate data are available. An application to the estimation of hourly pay distributions using UK Labour Force Survey data provides the main motivation. In addition to considering a standard parametric data augmentation method, we consider the use of hot deck imputation methods as part of the data augmentation procedure to improve the robustness of the method. The method proposed is compared with standard methods that are based on an ignorable missing data mechanism, both in a simulation study and in the Labour Force Survey application. The focus is on reducing bias in point estimation, but variance estimation using multiple imputation is also considered briefly.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new weighted quantile regression method. Traditionally, the estimation of the parameters involved in quantile regression is obtained by minimizing a loss function based on absolute distances with weights independent of explanatory variables. Specifically, we study a new estimation method using a weighted loss function with the weights associated with explanatory variables so that the performance of the resulting estimation can be improved. In full generality, we derive the asymptotic distribution of the weighted quantile regression estimators for any uniformly bounded positive weight function independent of the response. Two practical weighting schemes are proposed, each for a certain type of data. Monte Carlo simulations are carried out for comparing our proposed methods with the classical approaches. We also demonstrate the proposed methods using two real-life data sets from the literature. Both our simulation study and the results from these examples show that our proposed method outperforms the classical approaches when the relative efficiency is measured by the mean-squared errors of the estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop non-parametric estimation of the mean residual quantile function based on right-censored data. Two non-parametric estimators, one based on the empirical quantile function and the other using the kernel smoothing method, are proposed. Asymptotic properties of the estimators are discussed. Monte Carlo simulation studies are conducted to compare the two estimators. The method is illustrated with the aid of two real data sets.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with using the E-Bayesian method for computing estimates of exponential distribution. In order to measure the estimated error, based on the E-Bayesian estimation, we proposed the definition of E-MSE(expected mean square error). Moreover, the formulas of E-Bayesian estimation and formulas of E-MSE are given respectively, these estimations are derived based on a conjugate prior distribution for the unknown parameter under the scaled squared error loss function. The properties of E-MSE under different scaled parameters are also provided. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the proposed methods of estimation and a real data set have been analysed for illustrative purposes. Results are compared on the basis of E-MSE.  相似文献

Often in practice one is interested in the situation where the lifetime data are censored. Censorship is a common phenomenon frequently encountered when analyzing lifetime data due to time constraints. In this paper, the flexible Weibull distribution proposed in Bebbington et al. [A flexible Weibull extension, Reliab. Eng. Syst. Safety 92 (2007), pp. 719–726] is studied using maximum likelihood technics based on three different algorithms: Newton Raphson, Levenberg Marquardt and Trust Region reflective. The proposed parameter estimation method is introduced and proved to work from theoretical and practical point of view. On one hand, we apply a maximum likelihood estimation method using complete simulated and real data. On the other hand, we study for the first time the model using simulated and real data for type I censored samples. The estimation results are approved by a statistical test.  相似文献

We consider the problem of density estimation when the data is in the form of a continuous stream with no fixed length. In this setting, implementations of the usual methods of density estimation such as kernel density estimation are problematic. We propose a method of density estimation for massive datasets that is based upon taking the derivative of a smooth curve that has been fit through a set of quantile estimates. To achieve this, a low-storage, single-pass, sequential method is proposed for simultaneous estimation of multiple quantiles for massive datasets that form the basis of this method of density estimation. For comparison, we also consider a sequential kernel density estimator. The proposed methods are shown through simulation study to perform well and to have several distinct advantages over existing methods.  相似文献

Some work has been done in the past on the estimation for the three-parameter gamma distribution based on complete and censored samples. In this paper, we develop estimation methods based on progressively Type-II censored samples from a three-parameter gamma distribution. In particular, we develop some iterative methods for the determination of the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of all three parameters. It is shown that the proposed iterative scheme converges to the MLEs. In this context, we propose another method of estimation which is based on missing information principle and moment estimators. Simple alternatives to the above two methods are also suggested. The proposed estimation methods are then illustrated with a numerical example. We also consider the interval estimation based on large-sample theory and examine the actual coverage probabilities of these confidence intervals in case of small samples using a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

Linear regression models are useful statistical tools to analyze data sets in different fields. There are several methods to estimate the parameters of a linear regression model. These methods usually perform under normally distributed and uncorrelated errors. If error terms are correlated the Conditional Maximum Likelihood (CML) estimation method under normality assumption is often used to estimate the parameters of interest. The CML estimation method is required a distributional assumption on error terms. However, in practice, such distributional assumptions on error terms may not be plausible. In this paper, we propose to estimate the parameters of a linear regression model with autoregressive error term using Empirical Likelihood (EL) method, which is a distribution free estimation method. A small simulation study is provided to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimation method over the CML method. The results of the simulation study show that the proposed estimators based on EL method are remarkably better than the estimators obtained from CML method in terms of mean squared errors (MSE) and bias in almost all the simulation configurations. These findings are also confirmed by the results of the numerical and real data examples.  相似文献

In modern scientific research, multiblock missing data emerges with synthesizing information across multiple studies. However, existing imputation methods for handling block-wise missing data either focus on the single-block missing pattern or heavily rely on the model structure. In this study, we propose a single regression-based imputation algorithm for multiblock missing data. First, we conduct a sparse precision matrix estimation based on the structure of block-wise missing data. Second, we impute the missing blocks with their means conditional on the observed blocks. Theoretical results about variable selection and estimation consistency are established in the context of a generalized linear model. Moreover, simulation studies show that compared with existing methods, the proposed imputation procedure is robust to various missing mechanisms because of the good properties of regression imputation. An application to Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative data also confirms the superiority of our proposed method.  相似文献

Kernel smoothing methods are widely used in many research areas in statistics. However, kernel estimators suffer from boundary effects when the support of the function to be estimated has finite endpoints. Boundary effects seriously affect the overall performance of the estimator. In this article, we propose a new method of boundary correction for univariate kernel density estimation. Our technique is based on a data transformation that depends on the point of estimation. The proposed method possesses desirable properties such as local adaptivity and non-negativity. Furthermore, unlike many other transformation methods available, the proposed estimator is easy to implement. In a Monte Carlo study, the accuracy of the proposed estimator is numerically analyzed and compared with the existing methods of boundary correction. We find that it performs well for most shapes of densities. The theory behind the new methodology, along with the bias and variance of the proposed estimator, are presented. Results of a data analysis are also given.  相似文献

In this paper, we study estimation of linear models in the framework of longitudinal data with dropouts. Under the assumptions that random errors follow an elliptical distribution and all the subjects share the same within-subject covariance matrix which does not depend on covariates, we develop a robust method for simultaneous estimation of mean and covariance. The proposed method is robust against outliers, and does not require to model the covariance and missing data process. Theoretical properties of the proposed estimator are established and simulation studies show its good performance. In the end, the proposed method is applied to a real data analysis for illustration.  相似文献

The estimation of the covariance matrix is important in the analysis of bivariate longitudinal data. A good estimator for the covariance matrix can improve the efficiency of the estimators of the mean regression coefficients. Furthermore, the covariance estimation itself is also of interest, but it is a challenging job to model the covariance matrix of bivariate longitudinal data due to the complex structure and positive definite constraint. In addition, most of existing approaches are based on the maximum likelihood, which is very sensitive to outliers or heavy-tail error distributions. In this article, an adaptive robust estimation method is proposed for bivariate longitudinal data. Unlike the existing likelihood-based methods, the proposed method can adapt to different error distributions. Specifically, at first, we utilize the modified Cholesky block decomposition to parameterize the covariance matrices. Secondly, we apply the bounded Huber's score function to develop a set of robust generalized estimating equations to estimate the parameters both in the mean and the covariance models simultaneously. A data-driven approach is presented to select the parameter c in the Huber's score function, which can ensure that the proposed method is robust and efficient. A simulation study and a real data analysis are conducted to illustrate the robustness and efficiency of the proposed approach.  相似文献

Estimating location is a central problem in functional data analysis, yet most current estimation procedures either unrealistically assume completely observed trajectories or lack robustness with respect to the many kinds of anomalies one can encounter in the functional setting. To remedy these deficiencies we introduce the first class of optimal robust location estimators based on discretely sampled functional data. The proposed method is based on M-type smoothing spline estimation with repeated measurements and is suitable for both commonly and independently observed trajectories that are subject to measurement error. We show that under suitable assumptions the proposed family of estimators is minimax rate optimal both for commonly and independently observed trajectories and we illustrate its highly competitive performance and practical usefulness in a Monte-Carlo study and a real-data example involving recent Covid-19 data.  相似文献
