The authors extend Fisher's method of combining two independent test statistics to test homogeneity of several two‐parameter populations. They explore two procedures combining asymptotically independent test statistics: the first pools two likelihood ratio statistics and the other, score test statistics. They then give specific results to test homogeneity of several normal, negative binomial or beta‐binomial populations. Their simulations provide evidence that in this context, Fisher's method performs generally well, even when the statistics to be combined are only asymptotically independent. They are led to recommend Fisher's test based on score statistics, since the latter have simple forms, are easy to calculate, and have uniformly good level properties.  相似文献

Various non-parametric rank tests based on the Baumgartner statistic have been proposed for testing the location, scale and location–scale parameters. The modified Baumgartner statistics are not suitable for the scale shifts for a two-sample problem. Two modified Baumgartner statistics are proposed by changing the weight function. The suggested statistics are extended to the multisample problem. Some exact critical values of the suggested test statistics are evaluated. Simulations are used to investigate the power of the modified Baumgartner statistics.  相似文献

Bhattacharyya and Kioiz (1966) propose two multivariate nonparametric tests for monotone trend, one involving coordinate-wise Mann statistics and the other, coordinate-wise Spearman statistics. Dietz and Killeen (1981) propose a different test statistic based on coordinate-wise Mann statistics. The Pitman asymptotic relative efficiency of all three tests with respect to a normal theory competitor equals the cube root of the efficiency of a multivariate signed rank test with respect to Hotelling's T2. In this article, the small sample power of the nonparametric tests, the normal theory test, and a Bonferroni approach involving coordinate-wise univariate Mann or Spearman tests is examined in a simulation study. The Mann statistic of Dietz and Killeen and the Spearman statistic of Bhattacharyya and Klotz are found to perform well under both null and alternative hypotheses  相似文献

A new approach of randomization is proposed to construct goodness of fit tests generally. Some new test statistics are derived, which are based on the stochastic empirical distribution function (EDF). Note that the stochastic EDF for a set of given sample observations is a randomized distribution function. By substituting the stochastic EDF for the classical EDF in the Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Cramér–von Mises, Anderson–Darling, Berk–Jones, and Einmahl–Mckeague statistics, randomized statistics are derived, of which the qth quantile and the expectation are chosen as test statistics. In comparison to existing tests, it is shown, by a simulation study, that the new test statistics are generally more powerful than the corresponding ones based on the classical EDF or modified EDF in most cases.  相似文献

Marginal hazard models for multivariate failure time data have been studied extensively in recent literature. However, standard hypothesis test statistics based on the likelihood method are not exactly appropriate for this kind of model. In this paper, extensions of the three commonly used likelihood hypothesis test statistics are discussed. Generalized Wald, generalized score and generalized likelihood ratio tests for hazard ratio parameters in a marginal hazard model for multivariate failure time data are proposed and their asymptotic distributions examined. The finite sample properties of these statistics are studied through simulations. The proposed method is applied to data from Busselton Population Health Surveys.  相似文献

This paper explores in high-dimensional settings how to test the equality of two location vectors. We introduce a rank-based projection test under elliptical symmetry. Optimal projection direction is derived according to asymptotically and locally best power criteria. Data-splitting strategy is used to estimate optimal projection and construct test statistics. The limiting null distribution and power function of the proposed statistics are thoroughly investigated under some mild assumptions. The test is shown to keep type I error rates pretty well and outperforms several existing methods in a broad range of settings, especially in the presence of large correlation structures. Simulation studies are conducted to confirm the asymptotic results and a real data example is applied to demonstrate the advantage of the proposed procedure.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Motivated by an example in marine science, we use Fisher’s method to combine independent likelihood ratio tests (LRTs) and asymptotic independent score tests to assess the equivalence of two zero-inflated Beta populations (mixture distributions with three parameters). For each test, test statistics for the three individual parameters are combined into a single statistic to address the overall difference between the two populations. We also develop non parametric and semiparametric permutation-based tests for simultaneously comparing two or three features of unknown populations. Simulations show that the likelihood-based tests perform well for large sample sizes and that the statistics based on combining LRT statistics outperforms the ones based on combining score test statistics. The permutation-based tests have overall better performance in terms of both power and type I error rate. Our methods are easy to implement and computationally efficient, and can be expanded to more than two populations and to other multiple parameter families. The permutation tests are entirely generic and can be useful in various applications dealing with zero (or other) inflation.  相似文献

One of the multisample problems is discussed in this article. A new multisample rank tests based on a k-sample Baumgartner statistic are proposed for testing the location-scale parameters. The exact critical values of proposed statistics are calculated. Simulations are used to investigate the power of proposed statistics for various population distributions.  相似文献

In this article, we consider nonparametric test procedures based on a group of quantile test statistics. We consider the quadratic form for the two-sided test and the maximal and summing types of statistics for the one-sided alternatives. Then we derive the null limiting distributions of the proposed test statistics using the large sample approximation theory. Also, we consider applying the permutation principle to obtain the null distribution. In this vein, we may consider the supremum type, which should use the permutation principle for obtaining the null distribution. Then we illustrate our procedure with an example and compare the proposed tests with other existing tests including the individual quantile tests by obtaining empirical powers through simulation study. Also, we comment on the related discussions to this testing procedure as concluding remarks. Finally we prove the lemmas and theorems in the appendices.  相似文献

In this study, we propose nonparametric tests using the several quantile statistics simultaneously for the right censored data. First of all, we consider statistics of the quadratic form with estimated covariance matrices. Then we derive the limiting distribution using the large sample approximation theory. Also we consider different forms of statistics such as the maximal and summing types with their limiting distributions. Then we illustrate our procedure with examples and compare performance among tests with empirical powers through a simulation study. Also we comment briefly on some interesting features including re-sampling methods as concluding remarks. Finally in Appendices, we provide proofs for the theoretic results needed for the derivation of the limiting distributions of the proposed test statistics.  相似文献

The authors deal with the problem of comparing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves from independent samples. From a nonparametric approach, they propose and study three different statistics. Their asymptotic distributions are obtained and a resample plan is considered. In order to study the statistical power of the introduced statistics, a simulation study is carried out. The (observed) results suggest that, for the considered models, the new statistics are more powerful than the usually employed ones (the Venkatraman test and the usual area under the ROC curve criterion) in non-uniform dominance situations and quite good otherwise.  相似文献

A class of “optimal”U-statistics type nonparametric test statistics is proposed for the one-sample location problem by considering a kernel depending on a constant a and all possible (distinct) subsamples of size two from a sample of n independent and identically distributed observations. The “optimal” choice of a is determined by the underlying distribution. The proposed class includes the Sign and the modified Wilcoxon signed-rank statistics as special cases. It is shown that any “optimal” member of the class performs better in terms of Pitman efficiency relative to the Sign and Wilcoxon-signed rank statistics. The effect of deviation of chosen a from the “optimal” a on Pitman efficiency is also examined. A Hodges-Lehmann type point estimator of the location parameter corresponding to the proposed “optimal” test-statistics is also defined and studied in this paper.  相似文献

The issues and dangers involved in testing multiple hypotheses are well recognised within the pharmaceutical industry. In reporting clinical trials, strenuous efforts are taken to avoid the inflation of type I error, with procedures such as the Bonferroni adjustment and its many elaborations and refinements being widely employed. Typically, such methods are conservative. They tend to be accurate if the multiple test statistics involved are mutually independent and achieve less than the type I error rate specified if these statistics are positively correlated. An alternative approach is to estimate the correlations between the test statistics and to perform a test that is conditional on those estimates being the true correlations. In this paper, we begin by assuming that test statistics are normally distributed and that their correlations are known. Under these circumstances, we explore several approaches to multiple testing, adapt them so that type I error is preserved exactly and then compare their powers over a range of true parameter values. For simplicity, the explorations are confined to the bivariate case. Having described the relative strengths and weaknesses of the approaches under study, we use simulation to assess the accuracy of the approximate theory developed when the correlations are estimated from the study data rather than being known in advance and when data are binary so that test statistics are only approximately normally distributed.  相似文献

Fisher's exact test, difference in proportions, log odds ratio, Pearson's chi-squared, and likelihood ratio are compared as test statistics for testing independence of two dichotomous factors when the associated p values are computed by using the conditional distribution given the marginals. The statistics listed above that can be used for a one-sided alternative give identical p values. For a two-sided alternative, many of the above statistics lead to different p values. The p values are shown to differ only by which tables in the opposite tail from the observed table are considered more extreme than the observed table.  相似文献

In this paper we obtain asymptotic expansions, up to order n−1/2 and under a sequence of Pitman alternatives, for the nonnull distribution functions of the likelihood ratio, Wald, score and gradient test statistics in the class of symmetric linear regression models. This is a wide class of models which encompasses the t model and several other symmetric distributions with longer-than normal tails. The asymptotic distributions of all four statistics are obtained for testing a subset of regression parameters. Furthermore, in order to compare the finite-sample performance of these tests in this class of models, Monte Carlo simulations are presented. An empirical application to a real data set is considered for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The problem of discordancy testing for an upper and lower outlier pair in a sample from a gamma distribution with known shape is considered. Three statistics are investigated: the well-known extremal quotient and two likelihood-based procedures. Approximations t o the null distributions of the statistics are obtained where appropriate. The non-null properties are investigated by sensitivity contours and simulation.  相似文献

In this paper we obtain asymptotic expansions up to order n−1/2 for the nonnull distribution functions of the likelihood ratio, Wald, score and gradient test statistics in exponential family nonlinear models (Cordeiro and Paula, 1989), under a sequence of Pitman alternatives. The asymptotic distributions of all four statistics are obtained for testing a subset of regression parameters and for testing the dispersion parameter, thus generalising the results given in Cordeiro et al. (1994) and Ferrari et al. (1997). We also present Monte Carlo simulations in order to compare the finite-sample performance of these tests.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce two goodness-of-fit tests for testing normality through the concept of the posterior predictive p-value. The discrepancy variables selected are the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) and Berk-Jones (BJ) statistics and the prior chosen is Jeffreys’ prior. The constructed posterior predictive p-values are shown to be distributed independently of the unknown parameters under the null hypothesis, thus they can be taken as the test statistics. It emerges from the simulation that the new tests are more powerful than the corresponding classical tests against most of the alternatives concerned.  相似文献

A class of distribution-free tests for ordered alternatives in a block design is presented. On each block a distribution-free statistic is selected, and a weighted sum of these statistics is then formed. A procedure for selecting the weighting constants which maximize the asymptotic relative efficiency is presented. The improvement in the efficiency of the weighted sum of block statistics over the unweighted sum is considered and proves interesting. Some attention is also given to the idea of using different types of statistics on different blocks.  相似文献

A distribution-free runs test for conditional symmetry is proposed. The null distribution of the test statistics is derived. Intensive simulation is conducted to examine the power of the proposed test for different sample sizes and different alternatives. Data on the bilirubin level of babies in neonatal intensive care is used to illustrate the method.  相似文献
