In this paper, a one-stage multiple comparison procedures with the average for exponential location parameters based on the doubly censored sample under heteroscedasticity is proposed. These intervals can be used to identify a subset which includes all no-worse-than-the-average treatments in an experimental design and to identify better-than-the-average, worse-than-the-average and not-much-different-from-the-average products in agriculture, emerging market, pharmaceutical industries. The critical values are tabulated in a table for practical use. A simulation study on the confidence length and coverage probabilities is done. At last, an example of comparing four drugs in the treatment of leukemia is given to demonstrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, a modified one-stage multiple comparison procedures with a control for exponential location parameters based on the doubly censored sample under heteroscedasticity is proposed. A simulation study is done and the results show that the proposed procedures have shorter confidence length with coverage probabilities closer to the nominal ones compared with the one proposed in Wu (2017 Wu, S. F. 2017. Multiple comparisons of exponential location parameters with a control based on doubly censored sample under heteroscedasticity. Communications in Statistics: Simulation and Computation 46 (3):18581870. doi: 10.1080/03610918.2015.1017582.[Taylor & Francis Online] [Google Scholar]). At last, an example of comparing the duration of remission for four drugs as the treatment of leukemia is given to demonstrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

In this article, a one-sample procedure for multiple comparisons of exponential location parameters with a control under heteroscedasticity is proposed. The observations are obtained by doubly censored samples. A one-sided and two-sided confidence intervals are used to perform such multiple comparisons. Statistical tables of critical values and an example of comparing four drugs in treating leukemia are provided.  相似文献

A test procedure for testing homogeneity of location parameters against simple ordered alternative is proposed for k(k ≥ 2) members of two parameter exponential distribution under unbalanced data and heteroscedasticity of the scale parameters. The relevant one-sided and two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals (SCIs) for all k(k ? 1)/2 ordered pairwise differences of location parameters are also proposed. Simulation-based study revealed that the proposed procedure is better than the recently proposed procedure in terms of power, coverage probability, and average volume of SCIs. The implementation of proposed procedure is demonstrated through real life data.  相似文献

Abstract

In many experimental situations, the average treatment performance within its own group is used as a benchmark to be compared with each individual treatment. Multiple comparison procedures with the average (MCA) are thus proposed. A simulation comparison study of the traditional MCA, the single-stage MCA and the two-stage MCA for normal distribution under heteroscedasticity is investigated by the Monte-Carlo techniques in this paper. It was found that the two-stage MCA has shorter confidence length than the single-stage MCA for most cases and it is also more robust for non-normal distributions. Therefore, the two-stage MCA is recommended. But when the additional samples at the second stage could be costly, the data-analysis oriented single-stage MCA can be used. A biometrical example to illustrate the single-stage MCA and the two-stage MCA with equal confidence length is also given in this article.  相似文献

In this paper, a new design-oriented two-stage two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals, for comparing several exponential populations with control population in terms of location parameters under heteroscedasticity, are proposed. If there is a prior information that the location parameter of k exponential populations are not less than the location parameter of control population, one-sided simultaneous confidence intervals provide more inferential sensitivity than two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals. But the two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals have advantages over the one-sided simultaneous confidence intervals as they provide both lower and upper bounds for the parameters of interest. The proposed design-oriented two-stage two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals provide the benefits of both the two-stage one-sided and two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals. When the additional sample at the second stage may not be available due to the experimental budget shortage or other factors in an experiment, one-stage two-sided confidence intervals are proposed, which combine the advantages of one-stage one-sided and two-sided simultaneous confidence intervals. The critical constants are obtained using the techniques given in Lam [9,10]. These critical constant are compared with the critical constants obtained by Bonferroni inequality techniques and found that critical constant obtained by Lam [9,10] are less conservative than critical constants computed from the Bonferroni inequality technique. Implementation of the proposed simultaneous confidence intervals is demonstrated by a numerical example.  相似文献

Consider k independent random samples such that ith sample is drawn from a two-parameter exponential population with location parameter μi and scale parameter θi,?i = 1, …, k. For simultaneously testing differences between location parameters of successive exponential populations, closed testing procedures are proposed separately for the following cases (i) when scale parameters are unknown and equal and (ii) when scale parameters are unknown and unequal. Critical constants required for the proposed procedures are obtained numerically and the selected values of the critical constants are tabulated. Simulation study revealed that the proposed procedures has better ability to detect the significant differences and has more power in comparison to exiting procedures. The illustration of the proposed procedures is given using real data.  相似文献

Among k independent two-parameter exponential distributions which have the common scale parameter, the lower extreme population (LEP) is the one with the smallest location parameter and the upper extreme population (UEP) is the one with the largest location parameter. Given a multiply type II censored sample from each of these k independent two-parameter exponential distributions, 14 estimators for the unknown location parameters and the common unknown scale parameter are considered. Fourteen simultaneous confidence intervals (SCIs) for all distances from the extreme populations (UEP and LEP) and from the UEP from these k independent exponential distributions under the multiply type II censoring are proposed. The critical values are obtained by the Monte Carlo method. The optimal SCIs among 14 methods are identified based on the criteria of minimum confidence length for various censoring schemes. The subset selection procedures of extreme populations are also proposed and two numerical examples are given for illustration.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Classification of data consisting of both categorical and continuous variables between two groups is often handled by the sample location linear discriminant function confined to each of the locations specified by the observed values of the categorical variables. Homoscedasticity of across-location conditional dispersion matrices of the continuous variables is often assumed. Quite often, interactions between continuous and categorical variables cause across-location heteroscedasticity. In this article, we examine the effect of heterogeneous across-location conditional dispersion matrices on the overall expected and actual error rates associated with the sample location linear discriminant function. Performance of the sample location linear discriminant function is evaluated against the results for the restrictive classifier adjusted for across-location heteroscedasticity. Conclusions based on a Monte Carlo study are reported.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we study the problem of estimating the stress-strength reliability, where the stress and strength variables follow independent exponential distributions with a common location parameter but different scale parameters. All parameters are assumed to be unknown. We derive the MLE, the UMVUE of the reliability parameter. We also derive the Bayes estimators considering conjugate prior distributions for the scale parameters and a dependent prior for the common location parameter. Monte Carlo simulations have been carried out to compare among the proposed estimators with respect to different loss functions.  相似文献

The paper deals with the problem of bounded risk point estimation for a linear combination of location parameters of two negative exponential distributions. Isogai and Futschik considered the situation when the location and scale parameters are all unknown. They proposed purely sequential procedures and gave second order expansions of the average sample sizes and risks. In this paper we propose three-stage procedures and derive second order expansions of the average sample sizes and risks. Further, we compare the results with those from previous work.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper new filters for removing unspecified form of heteroscedasticity are proposed. The filters build on the assumption that the variance of a pre-whitened time series can be viewed as a latent stochastic process by its own. This makes the filters flexible and useful in many situations. A simulation study shows that removing heteroscedasticity before fitting a model leads to efficiency gains and bias reductions when estimating the parameters of ARMA models. A real data study shows that pre-filtering can increase the forecasting precision of quarterly US GDP growth.  相似文献

A multivariate generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity model with dynamic conditional correlations is proposed, in which the individual conditional volatilities follow exponential generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity models and the standardized innovations follow a mixture of Gaussian distributions. Inference on the model parameters and prediction of future volatilities are addressed by both maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation methods. Estimation of the Value at Risk of a given portfolio and selection of optimal portfolios under the proposed specification are addressed. The good performance of the proposed methodology is illustrated via Monte Carlo experiments and the analysis of the daily closing prices of the Dow Jones and NASDAQ indexes.  相似文献

In this article, two-stage procedures for multiple comparisons with the average for location parameters of two-parameter exponential distributions under heterocedasity including one- and two-sided confidence intervals are proposed. These intervals can be used to identify a subset which includes all no-worse-than-the-average treatments in an experimental design and to identify better-than-the-average, worse-than-the-average and not-much-different-from-the-average products in agriculture, stock market, medical research, and auto models. An upper limit of critical values are obtained using the recent techniques given in Lam (Proceedings of the Second International Advanced Seminar/Workshop on Inference Procedures Associated with Statistical Ranking and Selection, Sydney, Australia, August 1987; Comm. Statist. Simulation Comput. B17(3) (1988) 55). These approximate critical values are shown to have better results than the approximate critical values using the Bonferroni inequality developed in this paper. An example of comparing four drugs in the treatment of leukemia is given to demonstrate the proposed methodology.  相似文献

In this article we study inferences for a class of linear models under heteroscedasticity. Using the generalized inference approach, we obtain the generalized p-values of two-sided hypotheses for the multi-dimensional location parameters and one-sided hypotheses for the scale parameters, respectively. Some frequentist properties in small-sample cases and large-sample cases are proven.  相似文献

This paper deals with a power comparison of different types of tests, parametric, nonparametric, robustified and adaptive ones for the two-sided c -sample location problem. A robustness study on level f in the case of heteroscedasticity and non-normal distributions is included in our study, too. First of all, we consider an adaptive test based on Hogg's concept and two adaptive Bootstrap tests using Hogg's principle. It turns out that the adaptive Hogg-test is the best one in the case of homoscedasticity but for heteroscedasticity, an adaptive Bootstrap test using Hogg's principle is preferable.  相似文献

The design parameters of the multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) control chart may be chosen according to economic and/or statistical considerations. The economic model proposed for the design of the'MEWMA chart assumes a Markovian process failure mechanism following an exponential distribution. We'assess the sensitivity of the resulting economic design for the MEWMA to deviations from this assumption. In particular, the generalization, from an exponential to a Weibull distribution of process failure, is used to study the selection of MEWMA chart parameters given process cost and time information. We conclude that the quality of the resulting design (in terms of expected cost) is not substantially affected by mis-specification of the distribution of process failure.  相似文献

Estimation of the parameters of an exponential distribution based on record data has been treated by Samaniego and Whitaker [On estimating population characteristics from record-breaking observations, I. Parametric results, Naval Res. Logist. Q. 33 (1986), pp. 531–543] and Doostparast [A note on estimation based on record data, Metrika 69 (2009), pp. 69–80]. Recently, Doostparast and Balakrishnan [Optimal record-based statistical procedures for the two-parameter exponential distribution, J. Statist. Comput. Simul. 81(12) (2011), pp. 2003–2019] obtained optimal confidence intervals as well as uniformly most powerful tests for one- and two-sided hypotheses concerning location and scale parameters based on record data from a two-parameter exponential model. In this paper, we derive optimal statistical procedures including point and interval estimation as well as most powerful tests based on record data from a two-parameter Pareto model. For illustrative purpose, a data set on annual wages of a sample of production-line workers in a large industrial firm is analysed using the proposed procedures.  相似文献

Kumar and Patel (1971) have considered the problem of testing the equality of location parameters of two exponential distributions on the basis of samples censored from above, when the scale parameters are the same and unknown. The test proposed by them is shown to be biased for n1n2, while for n1=n2 the test possesses the property of monotonicity and is equivalent to the likelihood ratio test, which is considered by Epstein and Tsao (1953) and Dubey (1963a, 1963b). Epstein and Tsao state that the test is unbiased. We may note that when the scale parameters of k exponential distributions are unknown the problem of testing the equality of location parameters is reducible to that of testing the equality of parameters in k rectangular populations for which a test and its power function were given by Khatri (1960, 1965); Jaiswal (1969) considered similar problems in his thesis. Here we extend the problem of testing the equality of k exponential distributions on the basis of samples censored from above when the scale parameters are equal and unknown, and we establish the likelihood ratio test (LET) and the union-intersection test (UIT) procedures. Using the results previously derived by Jaiswal (1969), we obtain the power function for the LET and for k= 2 show that the test possesses the property of monotonicity. The power function of the UIT is also given.  相似文献

Suppose a subset of populations is selected from k exponential populations with unknown location parameters θ1, θ2, …, θk and common known scale parameter σ. We consider the estimation of the location parameter of the selected population and the average worth of the selected subset under an asymmetric LINEX loss function. We show that the natural estimator of these parameters is biased and find the uniformly minimum risk-unbiased (UMRU) estimator of these parameters. In the case of k = 2, we find the minimax estimator of the location parameter of the smallest selected population. Furthermore, we compare numerically the risk of UMRU, minimax, and the natural estimators.  相似文献
