As a useful extension of partially linear models and varying coefficient models, the partially linear varying coefficient model is useful in statistical modelling. This paper considers statistical inference for the semiparametric model when the covariates in the linear part are measured with additive error and some additional linear restrictions on the parametric component are available. We propose a restricted modified profile least-squares estimator for the parametric component, and prove the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator. To test hypotheses on the parametric component, we propose a test statistic based on the difference between the corrected residual sums of squares under the null and alterative hypotheses, and show that its limiting distribution is a weighted sum of independent chi-square distributions. We also develop an adjusted test statistic, which has an asymptotically standard chi-squared distribution. Some simulation studies are conducted to illustrate our approaches.  相似文献

We propose in this article a novel dimension reduction method for varying coefficient models. The proposed method explores the rank reducible structure of those varying coefficients, hence, can do dimension reduction and semiparametric estimation, simultaneously. As a result, the new method not only improves estimation accuracy but also facilitates practical interpretation. To determine the structure dimension, a consistent BIC criterion is developed. Numerical experiments are also presented.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a semiparametric smooth coefficient model as a useful yet flexible specification for studying a general regression relationship with varying coefficients. The article proposes a local least squares method with a kernel weight function to estimate the smooth coefficient function. The consistency of the estimator and its asymptotic normality are established. A simple statistic for testing a parametric model versus the semiparametric smooth coefficient model is proposed. An empirical application of the proposed method is presented with an estimation of the production function of the nonmetal mineral industry in China. The empirical findings show that the intermediate production and management expense has played a vital role and is an unbalanced determinant of the labor and capital elasticities of output in production.  相似文献

This article considers statistical inference for the heteroscedastic partially linear varying coefficient models. We construct an efficient estimator for the parametric component by applying the weighted profile least-squares approach, and show that it is semiparametrically efficient in the sense that the inverse of the asymptotic variance of the estimator reaches the semiparametric efficiency bound. Simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Partially varying coefficient single-index models (PVCSIM) are a class of semiparametric regression models. One important assumption is that the model error is independently and identically distributed, which may contradict with the reality in many applications. For example, in the economical and financial applications, the observations may be serially correlated over time. Based on the empirical likelihood technique, we propose a procedure for testing the serial correlation of random error in PVCSIM. Under some regular conditions, we show that the proposed empirical likelihood ratio statistic asymptotically follows a standard χ2 distribution. We also present some numerical studies to illustrate the performance of our proposed testing procedure.  相似文献

This article examines a semiparametric test for checking the constancy of serial dependence via copula models for Markov time series. A semiparametric score test is proposed for testing the constancy of the copula parameter against stochastically varying copula parameter. The asymptotic null distribution of the test is established. A semiparametric bootstrap procedure is employed for the estimation of the variance of the proposed score test. Illustrations are given based on simulated series and historic interest rate data.  相似文献

A regression model with skew-normal errors provides a useful extension for ordinary normal regression models when the data set under consideration involves asymmetric outcomes. Variable selection is an important issue in all regression analyses, and in this paper, we investigate the simultaneously variable selection in joint location and scale models of the skew-normal distribution. We propose a unified penalized likelihood method which can simultaneously select significant variables in the location and scale models. Furthermore, the proposed variable selection method can simultaneously perform parameter estimation and variable selection in the location and scale models. With appropriate selection of the tuning parameters, we establish the consistency and the oracle property of the regularized estimators. Simulation studies and a real example are used to illustrate the proposed methodologies.  相似文献

The complexity of semiparametric models poses new challenges to statistical inference and model selection that frequently arise from real applications. In this work, we propose new estimation and variable selection procedures for the semiparametric varying-coefficient partially linear model. We first study quantile regression estimates for the nonparametric varying-coefficient functions and the parametric regression coefficients. To achieve nice efficiency properties, we further develop a semiparametric composite quantile regression procedure. We establish the asymptotic normality of proposed estimators for both the parametric and nonparametric parts and show that the estimators achieve the best convergence rate. Moreover, we show that the proposed method is much more efficient than the least-squares-based method for many non-normal errors and that it only loses a small amount of efficiency for normal errors. In addition, it is shown that the loss in efficiency is at most 11.1% for estimating varying coefficient functions and is no greater than 13.6% for estimating parametric components. To achieve sparsity with high-dimensional covariates, we propose adaptive penalization methods for variable selection in the semiparametric varying-coefficient partially linear model and prove that the methods possess the oracle property. Extensive Monte Carlo simulation studies are conducted to examine the finite-sample performance of the proposed procedures. Finally, we apply the new methods to analyze the plasma beta-carotene level data.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we focus on the variable selection for semiparametric varying coefficient partially linear model with response missing at random. Variable selection is proposed based on modal regression, where the non parametric functions are approximated by B-spline basis. The proposed procedure uses SCAD penalty to realize variable selection of parametric and nonparametric components simultaneously. Furthermore, we establish the consistency, the sparse property and asymptotic normality of the resulting estimators. The penalty estimation parameters value of the proposed method is calculated by EM algorithm. Simulation studies are carried out to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed variable selection procedure.  相似文献

The generalized semiparametric mixed varying‐coefficient effects model for longitudinal data can accommodate a variety of link functions and flexibly model different types of covariate effects, including time‐constant, time‐varying and covariate‐varying effects. The time‐varying effects are unspecified functions of time and the covariate‐varying effects are nonparametric functions of a possibly time‐dependent exposure variable. A semiparametric estimation procedure is developed that uses local linear smoothing and profile weighted least squares, which requires smoothing in the two different and yet connected domains of time and the time‐dependent exposure variable. The asymptotic properties of the estimators of both nonparametric and parametric effects are investigated. In addition, hypothesis testing procedures are developed to examine the covariate effects. The finite‐sample properties of the proposed estimators and testing procedures are examined through simulations, indicating satisfactory performances. The proposed methods are applied to analyze the AIDS Clinical Trial Group 244 clinical trial to investigate the effects of antiretroviral treatment switching in HIV‐infected patients before and after developing the T215Y antiretroviral drug resistance mutation. In this article, we consider the estimation of semiparametric panel data smooth coefficient models. We propose a class of local generalized method of moments (LGMM) estimators that are simple and easy to implement in practice. We show that the proposed LGMM estimators are consistent and asymptotically normal. Monte Carlo simulations suggest that our proposed estimator performs quite well in finite samples. An empirical application using a large panel of U.K. firms is also presented.  相似文献

In this article, utilizing a scale mixture of skew-normal distribution in which mixing random variable is assumed to follow a mixture model with varying weights for each observation, we introduce a generalization of skew-normal linear regression model with the aim to provide resistant results. This model, which also includes the skew-slash distribution in a particular case, allows us to accommodate and detect outlying observations under the skew-normal linear regression model. Inferences about the model are carried out through the empirical Bayes approach. The conditions for propriety of the posterior and for existence of posterior moments are given under the standard noninformative priors for regression and scale parameters as well as proper prior for skewness parameter. Then, for Bayesian inference, a Markov chain Monte Carlo method is described. Since posterior results depend on the prior hyperparameters, we estimate them adopting the empirical Bayes method as well as using a Monte Carlo EM algorithm. Furthermore, to identify possible outliers, we also apply the Bayes factor obtained through the generalized Savage-Dickey density ratio. Examining the proposed approach on simulated instance and real data, it is found to provide not only satisfactory parameter estimates rather allow identifying outliers favorably.  相似文献

The potency of antiretroviral agents in AIDS clinical trials can be assessed on the basis of a viral response such as viral decay rate or change in viral load (number of HIV RNA copies in plasma). Linear, nonlinear, and nonparametric mixed-effects models have been proposed to estimate such parameters in viral dynamic models. However, there are two critical questions that stand out: whether these models achieve consistent estimates for viral decay rates, and which model is more appropriate for use in practice. Moreover, one often assumes that a model random error is normally distributed, but this assumption may be unrealistic, obscuring important features of within- and among-subject variations. In this article, we develop a skew-normal (SN) Bayesian linear mixed-effects (SN-BLME) model, an SN Bayesian nonlinear mixed-effects (SN-BNLME) model, and an SN Bayesian semiparametric nonlinear mixed-effects (SN-BSNLME) model that relax the normality assumption by considering model random error to have an SN distribution. We compare the performance of these SN models, and also compare their performance with the corresponding normal models. An AIDS dataset is used to test the proposed models and methods. It was found that there is a significant incongruity in the estimated viral decay rates. The results indicate that SN-BSNLME model is preferred to the other models, implying that an arbitrary data truncation is not necessary. The findings also suggest that it is important to assume a model with an SN distribution in order to achieve reasonable results when the data exhibit skewness.  相似文献

A regression model with skew-normal errors provides a useful extension for ordinary normal regression models when the dataset under consideration involves asymmetric outcomes. In this article, we explore the use of Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods to develop a Bayesian analysis for joint location and scale nonlinear models with skew-normal errors, which relax the normality assumption and include the normal one as a special case. The main advantage of these class of distributions is that they have a nice hierarchical representation that allows the implementation of MCMC methods to simulate samples from the joint posterior distribution. Finally, simulation studies and a real example are used to illustrate the proposed methodology.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We consider principal varying coefficient models in the high-dimensional setting, combined with variable selection, to reduce the effective number of parameters in semiparametric modelling. The estimation is based on B-splines approach. For the unpenalized estimator, we establish non-asymptotic bounds of the estimator and then establish the (asymptotic) local oracle property of the penalized estimator, as well as non-asymptotic error bounds. Monte Carlo studies reveal the favourable performance of the estimator and an application on a real dataset is presented.  相似文献

The performance of nonparametric function estimates often depends on the choice of design points. Based on the mean integrated squared error criterion, we propose a sequential design procedure that updates the model knowledge and optimal design density sequentially. The methodology is developed under a general framework covering a wide range of nonparametric inference problems, such as conditional mean and variance functions, the conditional distribution function, the conditional quantile function in quantile regression, functional coefficients in varying coefficient models and semiparametric inferences. Based on our empirical studies, nonparametric inference based on the proposed sequential design is more efficient than the uniform design and its performance is close to the true but unknown optimal design. This paper focuses on the variable selection for semiparametric varying coefficient partially linear model when the covariates are measured with additive errors and the response is missing. An adaptive lasso estimator and the smoothly clipped absolute deviation estimator as a comparison for the parameters are proposed. With the proper selection of regularization parameter, the sampling properties including the consistency of the two procedures and the oracle properties are established. Furthermore, the algorithms and corresponding standard error formulas are discussed. A simulation study is carried out to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

The class of skew-symmetric distributions has received much attention in recent years. In this article, we introduce two distributions which can capture the skew-symmetric unimodal (e.g., skew-Laplace, skew-normal) and the skew-symmetric bimodal ones systematically. Their natural generalizations of the skew-Laplace and the skew-normal distributions provide greater flexibility in modeling real data distributions. These models also avoid the identifiability problems of using mixtures to fit bimodal data. The stochastic representations that provide the random number generation algorithms are presented. The explicit forms of the central moments indicated that the proposed distributions have wide ranges of the skewness and kurtosis measures.  相似文献

In this paper we study a semiparametric varying coefficient model when the response is subject to random right censoring. The model gives an easy interpretation due to its direct connectivity to the classical linear model and is very flexible since nonparametric functions which accommodates various nonlinear interaction effects between covariates are admitted in the model. We propose estimators for this model using mean-preserving transformation and establish their asymptotic properties. The estimation procedure is based on the profiling and the smooth backfitting techniques. A simulation study is presented to show the reliability of the proposed estimators and an automatic bandwidth selector is given in a data-driven way.  相似文献

Time‐varying coefficient models are widely used in longitudinal data analysis. These models allow the effects of predictors on response to vary over time. In this article, we consider a mixed‐effects time‐varying coefficient model to account for the within subject correlation for longitudinal data. We show that when kernel smoothing is used to estimate the smooth functions in time‐varying coefficient models for sparse or dense longitudinal data, the asymptotic results of these two situations are essentially different. Therefore, a subjective choice between the sparse and dense cases might lead to erroneous conclusions for statistical inference. In order to solve this problem, we establish a unified self‐normalized central limit theorem, based on which a unified inference is proposed without deciding whether the data are sparse or dense. The effectiveness of the proposed unified inference is demonstrated through a simulation study and an analysis of Baltimore MACS data.  相似文献
