The development of control charts for monitoring processes associated with very low rates of nonconformities is increasingly becoming more important as manufacturing processes become more capable. Since the rate of nonconformities can typically be modeled by a simple homogeneous Poisson process, the perspective of monitoring the interarrival times using the exponential distribution becomes an alternative. Gan (1994) developed a CUSUM-based approach for monitoring the exponential mean. In this paper, we propose an alternative CUSUM-based approach based on its ease of implementation. We also provide a study of the relative performance of the two approaches.  相似文献

The Zero-inflated Poisson distribution (ZIP) is used to model the defects in processes with a large number of zeros. We propose a control charting procedure using a combination of two cumulative sum (CUSUM) charts to detect increases in the parameters of ZIP process, one is a conforming run length (CRL) CUSUM chart and another is a zero truncated Poisson (ZTP) CUSUM chart. The control limits of the control charts are obtained using both Markov chain-based methods and simulations. Simulation experiments show that the proposed method outperforms an existing method. Finally, a real example is presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Recently considerable research has been devoted to monitoring increases of incidence rate of adverse rare events. This paper extends some one-sided upper exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts from monitoring normal means to monitoring Poisson rate when sample sizes are varying over time. The approximated average run length bounds are derived for these EWMA-type charts and compared with the EWMA chart previously studied. Extensive simulations have been conducted to compare the performance of these EWMA-type charts. An illustrative example is given.  相似文献

The adaptive multivariate CUSUM (AMCUSUM) chart has received considerable attention because of its superior sensitivity against a range of mean shift sizes than that of the conventional non-adaptive multivariate CUSUM (MCUSUM) chart. Recently, weighted AMCUSUM (WAMCUSUM) charts with a fixed sampling interval (FSI) have been proposed, called the WAMCUSUM-FSI charts, which provide more sensitivity than the AMCUSUM-FSI charts. In this paper, we extend this work and propose WAMCUSUM charts with variable sampling interval (VSI), named the WAMCUSUM-VSI charts, for efficiently monitoring the mean of a multivariate normally distributed process. The Monte Carlo simulation method is used to compute the average time to signal (ATS) and the adjusted ATS (AATS) profiles of the existing and proposed charts. It is found that the WAMCUSUM-VSI charts perform substantially and nearly uniformly better than the WAMCUSUM-FSI charts in terms of the ATS and AATS performance criterion. An example is given to explain the implementation of the WAMCUSUM charts with fixed and VSIs.  相似文献

This study examines the statistical process control chart used to detect a parameter shift with Poisson integer-valued GARCH (INGARCH) models and zero-inflated Poisson INGARCH models. INGARCH models have a conditional mean structure similar to GARCH models and are well known to be appropriate to analyzing count data that feature overdispersion. Special attention is paid in this study to conditional and general likelihood ratio-based (CLR and GLR) CUSUM charts and the score function-based CUSUM (SFCUSUM) chart. The performance of each of the proposed methods is evaluated through a simulation study, by calculating their average run length. Our findings show that the proposed methods perform adequately, and that the CLR chart outperforms the GLR chart when there is an increased shift of parameters. Moreover, the use of the SFCUSUM chart in particular is found to lead to a lower false alarm rate than the use of the CLR chart.  相似文献

A generally weighted moving average (GWMA) control chart for monitoring Poisson observations is introduced. Using simulation, its average run lengths and standard deviations of run lengths are compared with those of other control charts for Poisson data. It is shown that the Poisson GWMA chart outperforms other control charts, especially when the process shift is small.  相似文献

Time Between Events (TBE) charts were proposed to monitor the time between events occur based on exponential distribution, and have been shown to be more effective than monitoring the fraction non conforming directly. In this article, we consider monitoring the TBE data with CUSUM scheme by transformation. The idea behind it is to transform the TBE data to normal, and then apply the CUSUM scheme for the approximate normal data. Several simple transformation methods are examined. The calculation of Average Run Length (ARL) with Markov chain approach is described. Comparative studies on the ARL performance show that the transformed CUSUM is superior to the X-MR (Moving Range) chart with transformation, the Cumulative Quantity Control (CQC) chart, and have comparable performance with exponential CUSUM charts. The design procedures of optimal CUSUM chart are also presented. This study provides another possible alternative for monitoring TBE data with easy design procedures and relatively good performance.  相似文献

The Poisson GWMA (PGWMA) control chart is an extension model of Poisson EWMA chart. It is substantially sensitive to small process shifts for monitoring Poisson observations. Recently, some approaches have been proposed to modify EWMA charts with fast initial response (FIR) features. In this article, we employ these approaches in PGWMA charts and introduce a novel chart called Poisson double GWMA (PDGWMA) chart for comparison. Using simulation, various control schemes are designed and their average run lengths (ARLs) are computer and compared. It is shown that the PDGWMA chart is the first choice in detecting small shifts especially when the shifts are downward, and the PGWMA chart with adjusted time-varying control limits performs excellently in detecting great process shifts during the initial stage.  相似文献

In this article, we propose new cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts using the ordered ranked set sampling (RSS) and ordered double RSS schemes, with the perfect and imperfect rankings, for monitoring the variability of a normally distributed process. The run length characteristics of the proposed CUSUM charts are computed using the Monte Carlo simulations. The proposed CUSUM charts are compared in terms of the average and standard deviation of run lengths with their existing competitor CUSUM charts based on simple random sampling. It turns out that the proposed CUSUM charts with the perfect and imperfect rankings are more sensitive than the existing CUSUM charts based on the sample range and standard deviation. A similar trend is present when these CUSUM charts are compared with the fast initial response features. An example is also used to demonstrate the implementation and working of the proposed CUSUM charts.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Profile monitoring is one of the new research areas in statistical process control. Most of the control charts in this area are designed with fixed sampling rate which makes the control chart slow in detecting small to moderate shifts. In order to improve the performance of the conventional fixed control charts, adaptive features are proposed in which, one or more design parameters vary during the process. In this paper the variable sample size feature of EWMA3 and MEWMA schemes are proposed for monitoring simple linear profiles. The EWMA3 method is based on the combination of three exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts for monitoring three parameters of a simple linear profile separately and the Multivariate EWMA (MEWMA) chart is based on the using a single chart to monitor the coefficients and variance of a general linear profile. Also a two-sided control chart is proposed for monitoring the standard deviation in the EWMA3 method. The performance of the proposed charts is compared in terms of the average time to signal. Numerical examples show that using adaptive features increase the power of control charts in detecting the parameter shifts. Finally, the performance of the proposed variable sample size schemes is illustrated through a real case in the leather industry.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The effect of parameters estimation on profile monitoring methods has only been studied by a few researchers and only the assumption of a normal response variable has been tackled. However, in some practical situation, the normality assumption is violated and the response variable follows a discrete distribution such as Poisson. In this paper, we evaluate the effect of parameters estimation on the Phase II monitoring of Poisson regression profiles by considering two control charts, namely the Hotelling’s T2 and the multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) charts. Simulation studies in terms of the average run length (ARL) and the standard deviation of the run length (SDRL) are carried out to assess the effect of estimated parameters on the performance of Phase II monitoring approaches. The results reveal that both in-control and out-of-control performances of these charts are adversely affected when the regression parameters are estimated.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose new cumulative sum (CUSUM) and Shewhart-CUSUM (SCUSUM) control charts for monitoring the process mean using ranked-set sampling (RSS) and ordered RSS (ORSS) schemes. The proposed CUSUM charts include the Crosier's CUSUM (CCUSUM) and Shewhart-CCUSUM (SCCUSUM) charts using RSS, and the CUSUM, CCUSUM, SCUSUM and SCCUSUM charts using ORSS. Moreover, fast initial response features are also attached with these CUSUM charts to improve their sensitivities for an initial out-of-control situation. Monte Carlo simulations are used to compute the run length characteristics of the proposed CUSUM charts. Upon comparing the run length performances of the CUSUM charts, it turns out that the proposed CUSUM charts are more sensitive than their existing counterparts. A real dataset is used to explain the implementation of the proposed CUSUM charts.  相似文献

One difficulty with developing multivariate attribute control charts is the lack of the related joint distribution. So, if it would be possible to generate the joint distribution of two (or more) attribute characteristics, then a bivaraite (or multivariate) attribute control chart can be developed based on Types I and II errors. Copula function is a solution to the matter. In this article, applying the copula function approach, we achieve the joint distribution of two correlated zero inflated Poisson (ZIP) distributions. Then, using this joint distribution, we develop a bivaraite control chart which can be used for monitoring correlated rare events. This copula-based bivariate ZIP control chart is compared with the simultaneous use of two separate univariate ZIP control charts. Based on the average run length (ARL) measure, it is shown that the proposed control chart is much better than the simultaneous use of two separate univariate charts. In addition, a real case study related to the environmental air in a sterilization process is investigated to show the applicability of the developed control chart.  相似文献

An accurate numerical procedure is presented for computing the average run length (ARL) of an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart under a linear drift in the process mean. The performance of an EWMA chart is then evaluated under a linear drift in the mean. In processes where gradual linear drifts rather than abrupt changes in the mean model the shifts in the mean more accurately, an evaluation of the performance of an EWMA chart under a linear drift is more appropriate. Tables of optimal smoothing parameters and control chart limits are given which make the design of EWMA charts easy.  相似文献

Guaranteed Conditional Performance of Control Charts via Bootstrap Methods   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
To use control charts in practice, the in‐control state usually has to be estimated. This estimation has a detrimental effect on the performance of control charts, which is often measured by the false alarm probability or the average run length. We suggest an adjustment of the monitoring schemes to overcome these problems. It guarantees, with a certain probability, a conditional performance given the estimated in‐control state. The suggested method is based on bootstrapping the data used to estimate the in‐control state. The method applies to different types of control charts, and also works with charts based on regression models. If a non‐parametric bootstrap is used, the method is robust to model errors. We show large sample properties of the adjustment. The usefulness of our approach is demonstrated through simulation studies.  相似文献

The memory-type adaptive and non-adaptive control charts are among the best control charts for detecting small-to-moderate changes in the process parameter(s). In this paper, we propose the Crosier CUSUM (CCUSUM), EWMA, adaptive CCUSUM (ACCUSUM) and adaptive EWMA (AEWMA) charts for efficiently monitoring the changes in the covariance matrix of a multivariate normal process without subgrouping. Using extensive Monte Carlo simulations, the length characteristics of these control charts are computed. It turns out that the ACCUSUM and AEWMA charts perform uniformly and substantially better than the CCUSUM and EWMA charts when detecting a range of shift sizes in the covariance matrix. Moreover, the AEWMA chart outperforms the ACCUSUM chart. A real dataset is used to explain the implementation of the proposed control charts.  相似文献

The performance of the cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart for the mean when measurement error exists is investigated. It is shown that the CUSUM chart is greatly affected by the measurement error. A similar result holds for the case of the CUSUM chart for the mean with linearly increasing variance. In this paper, we consider multiple measurements to reduce the effect of measurement error on the charts performance. Finally, a comparison of the CUSUM and EWMA charts is presented and certain recommendations are given.  相似文献

Control charts using repetitive group sampling have attracted a great deal of attention during the last few years. In the present article, we attempt to develop a control chart for the multivariate Poisson distribution using the repetitive group sampling scheme. In the proposed control chart, the monitoring statistic from the multivariate Poisson distribution has been used for the quick detection of the deteriorated process to avoid losses. The control coefficients have been estimated using the specified in-control average run lengths. The procedure of the proposed control chart has been explained by using the real-world example and a simulated data set. It has been observed that the proposed control chart is an efficient development for the quick detection of the nonrandom change in the manufacturing process.  相似文献

The run sum chart is an effective two-sided chart that can be used to monitor for process changes. It is known that it is more sensible than the Shewhart chart with runs rules and its performance improves as the number of regions increases. However, as the number of regions increses the resulting chart has more parameters to be defined and its design becomes more involved. In this article, we introduce a one-parameter run sum chart. This chart accumulates scores equal to the subgroup means and signals when the cummulative sum exceeds a limit value. A fast initial response feature is proposed and its run length distribution function is found by a set of recursive relations. We compare this chart with other charts suggested in the literature and find it competitive with the CUSUM, the FIR CUSUM, and the combined Shewhart FIR CUSUM schemes.  相似文献
