The composite quantile regression (CQR for short) provides an efficient and robust estimation for regression coefficients. In this paper we introduce two adaptive CQR methods. We make two contributions to the quantile regression literature. The first is that, both adaptive estimators treat the quantile levels as realizations of a random variable. This is quite different from the classic CQR in which the quantile levels are typically equally spaced, or generally, are treated as fixed values. Because the asymptotic variances of the adaptive estimators depend upon the generic distribution of the quantile levels, it has the potential to enhance estimation efficiency of the classic CQR. We compare the asymptotic variance of the estimator obtained by the CQR with that obtained by quantile regressions at each single quantile level. The second contribution is that, in terms of relative efficiency, the two adaptive estimators can be asymptotically equivalent to the CQR method as long as we choose the generic distribution of the quantile levels properly. This observation is useful in that it allows to perform parallel distributed computing when the computational complexity issue arises for the CQR method. We compare the relative efficiency of the adaptive methods with respect to some existing approaches through comprehensive simulations and an application to a real-world problem.  相似文献

In this article, a robust variable selection procedure based on the weighted composite quantile regression (WCQR) is proposed. Compared with the composite quantile regression (CQR), WCQR is robust to heavy-tailed errors and outliers in the explanatory variables. For the choice of the weights in the WCQR, we employ a weighting scheme based on the principal component method. To select variables with grouping effect, we consider WCQR with SCAD-L2 penalization. Furthermore, under some suitable assumptions, the theoretical properties, including the consistency and oracle property of the estimator, are established with a diverging number of parameters. In addition, we study the numerical performance of the proposed method in the case of ultrahigh-dimensional data. Simulation studies and real examples are provided to demonstrate the superiority of our method over the CQR method when there are outliers in the explanatory variables and/or the random error is from a heavy-tailed distribution.  相似文献

This paper is dedicated to the study of the composite quantile regression (CQR) estimations of time-varying parameter vectors for multidimensional diffusion models. Based on the local linear fitting for parameter vectors, we propose the local linear CQR estimations of the drift parameter vectors, and verify their asymptotic biases, asymptotic variances and asymptotic normality. Moreover, we discuss the asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) of the local linear CQR estimations with respect to the local linear least-squares estimations. We obtain that the local estimations that we proposed are much more efficient than the local linear least-squares estimations. Simulation studies are constructed to show the performance of the estimations proposed.  相似文献

It is known that for nonparametric regression, local linear composite quantile regression (local linear CQR) is a more competitive technique than classical local linear regression since it can significantly improve estimation efficiency under a class of non-normal and symmetric error distributions. However, this method only applies to symmetric errors because, without symmetric condition, the estimation bias is non-negligible and therefore the resulting estimator is inconsistent. In this paper, we propose a weighted local linear CQR method for general error conditions. This method applies to both symmetric and asymmetric random errors. Because of the use of weights, the estimation bias is eliminated asymptotically and the asymptotic normality is established. Furthermore, by minimizing asymptotic variance, the optimal weights are computed and consequently the optimal estimate (the most efficient estimate) is obtained. By comparing relative efficiency theoretically or numerically, we can ensure that the new estimation outperforms the local linear CQR estimation. Finite sample behaviors conducted by simulation studies further illustrate the theoretical findings.  相似文献

Partially linear varying coefficient models (PLVCMs) with heteroscedasticity are considered in this article. Based on composite quantile regression, we develop a weighted composite quantile regression (WCQR) to estimate the non parametric varying coefficient functions and the parametric regression coefficients. The WCQR is augmented using a data-driven weighting scheme. Moreover, the asymptotic normality of proposed estimators for both the parametric and non parametric parts are studied explicitly. In addition, by comparing the asymptotic relative efficiency theoretically and numerically, WCQR method all outperforms the CQR method and some other estimate methods. To achieve sparsity with high-dimensional covariates, we develop a variable selection procedure to select significant parametric components for the PLVCM and prove the method possessing the oracle property. Both simulations and data analysis are conducted to illustrate the finite-sample performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

This paper develops a novel weighted composite quantile regression (CQR) method for estimation of a linear model when some covariates are missing at random and the probability for missingness mechanism can be modelled parametrically. By incorporating the unbiased estimating equations of incomplete data into empirical likelihood (EL), we obtain the EL-based weights, and then re-adjust the inverse probability weighted CQR for estimating the vector of regression coefficients. Theoretical results show that the proposed method can achieve semiparametric efficiency if the selection probability function is correctly specified, therefore the EL weighted CQR is more efficient than the inverse probability weighted CQR. Besides, our algorithm is computationally simple and easy to implement. Simulation studies are conducted to examine the finite sample performance of the proposed procedures. Finally, we apply the new method to analyse the US news College data.  相似文献

In this article, a new composite quantile regression estimation approach is proposed for estimating the parametric part of single-index model. We use local linear composite quantile regression (CQR) for estimating the nonparametric part of single-index model (SIM) when the error distribution is symmetrical. The weighted local linear CQR is proposed for estimating the nonparametric part of SIM when the error distribution is asymmetrical. Moreover, a new variable selection procedure is proposed for SIM. Under some regularity conditions, we establish the large sample properties of the proposed estimators. Simulation studies and a real data analysis are presented to illustrate the behavior of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

Analysis of massive datasets is challenging owing to limitations of computer primary memory. Composite quantile regression (CQR) is a robust and efficient estimation method. In this paper, we extend CQR to massive datasets and propose a divide-and-conquer CQR method. The basic idea is to split the entire dataset into several blocks, applying the CQR method for data in each block, and finally combining these regression results via weighted average. The proposed approach significantly reduces the required amount of primary memory, and the resulting estimate will be as efficient as if the entire data set is analysed simultaneously. Moreover, to improve the efficiency of CQR, we propose a weighted CQR estimation approach. To achieve sparsity with high-dimensional covariates, we develop a variable selection procedure to select significant parametric components and prove the method possessing the oracle property. Both simulations and data analysis are conducted to illustrate the finite sample performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

This study examines estimation and inference based on quantile regression for parametric nonlinear models with an integrated time series covariate. We first derive the limiting distribution of the nonlinear quantile regression estimator and then consider testing for parameter restrictions, when the regression function is specified as an asymptotically homogeneous function. We also study linear-in-parameter regression models when the regression function is given by integrable regression functions as well as asymptotically homogeneous regression functions. We, furthermore, propose a fully modified estimator to reduce the bias in the original estimator under a certain set of conditions. Finally, simulation studies show that the estimators behave well, especially when the regression error term has a fat-tailed distribution.  相似文献

The composite quantile regression (CQR) has been developed for the robust and efficient estimation of regression coefficients in a liner regression model. By employing the idea of the CQR, we propose a new regression method, called composite kernel quantile regression (CKQR), which uses the sum of multiple check functions as a loss in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces for the robust estimation of a nonlinear regression function. The numerical results demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed CKQR in estimating both conditional nonlinear mean and quantile functions.  相似文献

We study the quantile estimation methods for the distortion measurement error data when variables are unobserved and distorted with additive errors by some unknown functions of an observable confounding variable. After calibrating the error-prone variables, we propose the quantile regression estimation procedure and composite quantile estimation procedure. Asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established, and we also investigate the asymptotic relative efficiency compared with the least-squares estimator. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed methods, and a real dataset is analyzed as an illustration.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an empirical likelihood-based weighted estimator of regression parameter in quantile regression model with non ignorable missing covariates. The proposed estimator is computationally simple and achieves semiparametric efficiency if the probability of missingness on the fully observed variables is correctly specified. The efficiency gain of the proposed estimator over the complete-case-analysis estimator is quantified theoretically and illustrated via simulation and a real data application.  相似文献

In this paper, a penalized weighted composite quantile regression estimation procedure is proposed to estimate unknown regression parameters and autoregression coefficients in the linear regression model with heavy-tailed autoregressive errors. Under some conditions, we show that the proposed estimator possesses the oracle properties. In addition, we introduce an iterative algorithm to achieve the proposed optimization problem, and use a data-driven method to choose the tuning parameters. Simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed new estimation method is robust and works much better than the least squares based method when there are outliers in the dataset or the autoregressive error distribution follows heavy-tailed distributions. Moreover, the proposed estimator works comparably to the least squares based estimator when there are no outliers and the error is normal. Finally, we apply the proposed methodology to analyze the electricity demand dataset.  相似文献

Coefficient estimation in linear regression models with missing data is routinely carried out in the mean regression framework. However, the mean regression theory breaks down if the error variance is infinite. In addition, correct specification of the likelihood function for existing imputation approach is often challenging in practice, especially for skewed data. In this paper, we develop a novel composite quantile regression and a weighted quantile average estimation procedure for parameter estimation in linear regression models when some responses are missing at random. Instead of imputing the missing response by randomly drawing from its conditional distribution, we propose to impute both missing and observed responses by their estimated conditional quantiles given the observed data and to use the parametrically estimated propensity scores to weigh check functions that define a regression parameter. Both estimation procedures are resistant to heavy‐tailed errors or outliers in the response and can achieve nice robustness and efficiency. Moreover, we propose adaptive penalization methods to simultaneously select significant variables and estimate unknown parameters. Asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are carefully investigated. An efficient algorithm is developed for fast implementation of the proposed methodologies. We also discuss a model selection criterion, which is based on an ICQ ‐type statistic, to select the penalty parameters. The performance of the proposed methods is illustrated via simulated and real data sets.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we propose a new regression method called general composite quantile regression (GCQR) which releases the unrealistic finite error variance assumption being imposed by the traditional least squares (LS) method. Unlike the recently proposed composite quantile regression (CQR) method, our proposed GCQR allows any continuous non-uniform density/weight function. As a result, determination of the number of uniform quantile positions is not required. Most importantly, the proposed GCQR criterion can be readily transformed to a linear programing problem, which substantially reduces the computing time. Our theoretical and empirical results show that the GCQR is generally efficient than the CQR and LS if the weight function is appropriately chosen. The oracle properties of the penalized GCQR are also provided. Our simulation results are consistent with the derived theoretical findings. A real data example is analyzed to demonstrate our methodologies.  相似文献

For estimation of time-varying coefficient longitudinal models, the widely used local least-squares (LS) or covariance-weighted local LS smoothing uses information from the local sample average. Motivated by the fact that a combination of multiple quantiles provides a more complete picture of the distribution, we investigate quantile regression-based methods to improve efficiency by optimally combining information across quantiles. Under the working independence scenario, the asymptotic variance of the proposed estimator approaches the Cramér–Rao lower bound. In the presence of dependence among within-subject measurements, we adopt a prewhitening technique to transform regression errors into independent innovations and show that the prewhitened optimally weighted quantile average estimator asymptotically achieves the Cramér–Rao bound for the independent innovations. Fully data-driven bandwidth selection and optimal weights estimation are implemented through a two-step procedure. Monte Carlo studies show that the proposed method delivers more robust and superior overall performance than that of the existing methods.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new weighted quantile regression method. Traditionally, the estimation of the parameters involved in quantile regression is obtained by minimizing a loss function based on absolute distances with weights independent of explanatory variables. Specifically, we study a new estimation method using a weighted loss function with the weights associated with explanatory variables so that the performance of the resulting estimation can be improved. In full generality, we derive the asymptotic distribution of the weighted quantile regression estimators for any uniformly bounded positive weight function independent of the response. Two practical weighting schemes are proposed, each for a certain type of data. Monte Carlo simulations are carried out for comparing our proposed methods with the classical approaches. We also demonstrate the proposed methods using two real-life data sets from the literature. Both our simulation study and the results from these examples show that our proposed method outperforms the classical approaches when the relative efficiency is measured by the mean-squared errors of the estimators.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, a new composite quantile regression estimation (CQR) approach is proposed for partially linear varying coefficient models (PLVCM) under composite quantile loss function with B-spline approximations. The major advantage of the proposed procedures over the existing ones is easy to implement using existing software, and it requires no specification of the error distributions. Under the regularity conditions, the consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimators are also derived. Finally, a simulation study and a real data application are undertaken to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed estimation procedure.  相似文献

This paper examines the use of bootstrapping for bias correction and calculation of confidence intervals (CIs) for a weighted nonlinear quantile regression estimator adjusted to the case of longitudinal data. Different weights and types of CIs are used and compared by computer simulation using a logistic growth function and error terms following an AR(1) model. The results indicate that bias correction reduces the bias of a point estimator but fails for CI calculations. A bootstrap percentile method and a normal approximation method perform well for two weights when used without bias correction. Taking both coverage and lengths of CIs into consideration, a non-bias-corrected percentile method with an unweighted estimator performs best.  相似文献

This paper proposes an empirical likelihood-based weighted (ELW) quantile regression approach for estimating the conditional quantiles when some covariates are missing at random. The proposed ELW estimator is computationally simple and achieves semiparametric efficiency if the probability of missingness is correctly specified. The limiting covariance matrix of the ELW estimator can be estimated by a resampling technique, which does not involve nonparametric density estimation or numerical derivatives. Simulation results show that the ELW method works remarkably well in finite samples. A real data example is used to illustrate the proposed ELW method.  相似文献
