In the recent years, the notion of data depth has been used in nonparametric multivariate data analysis since it gives natural ‘centre-outward’ ordering of multivariate data points with respect to the given data cloud. In the literature, various nonparametric tests are developed for testing equality of location of two multivariate distributions based on data depth. Here, we define two nonparametric tests based on two different test statistic for testing equality of locations of two multivariate distributions. In the present work, we compare the performance of these tests with the tests developed by Li and Liu [New nonparametric tests of multivariate locations and scales using data depth. Statist Sci. 2004;(1):686–696] for testing equality of locations of two multivariate distributions. Comparison in terms of power is done for multivariate symmetric and skewed distributions using simulation for three popular depth functions. Application of tests to real life data is provided. Conclusion and recommendations are also provided.  相似文献

Several nonparametric tests for multivariate multi-sample location problem are proposed in this paper. These tests are based on the notion of data depth, which is used to measure the centrality/outlyingness of a given point with respect to a given distribution or a data cloud. Proposed tests are completely nonparametric and implemented through the idea of permutation tests. Performance of the proposed tests is compared with existing parametric test and nonparametric test based on data depth. An extensive simulation study reveals that proposed tests are superior to the existing tests based on data depth with regard to power. Illustrations with real data are provided.  相似文献

The present paper deals with the problem of testing equality of locations of two multivariate distributions using a notion of data depth. A notion of data depth has been used to measure centrality/outlyingness of a given point in a given data cloud. The paper proposes two nonparametric tests for testing equality of locations of two multivariate populations which are developed by observing the behavior of the depth versus depth plot. Simulation study reveals that the proposed tests are superior to the existing tests based on the data depth with regard to power. Illustrations with real data are provided.  相似文献

Bhattacharyya and Kioiz (1966) propose two multivariate nonparametric tests for monotone trend, one involving coordinate-wise Mann statistics and the other, coordinate-wise Spearman statistics. Dietz and Killeen (1981) propose a different test statistic based on coordinate-wise Mann statistics. The Pitman asymptotic relative efficiency of all three tests with respect to a normal theory competitor equals the cube root of the efficiency of a multivariate signed rank test with respect to Hotelling's T2. In this article, the small sample power of the nonparametric tests, the normal theory test, and a Bonferroni approach involving coordinate-wise univariate Mann or Spearman tests is examined in a simulation study. The Mann statistic of Dietz and Killeen and the Spearman statistic of Bhattacharyya and Klotz are found to perform well under both null and alternative hypotheses  相似文献

Based on data depth, three types of nonparametric goodness-of-fit tests for multivariate distribution are proposed in this paper. They are Pearson’s chi-square test, tests based on EDF and tests based on spacings, respectively. The Anderson–Darling (AD) test and the Greenwood test for bivariate normal distribution and uniform distribution are simulated. The results of simulation show that these two tests have low type I error rates and become more efficient with the increase in sample size. The AD-type test performs more powerfully than the Greenwood type test.  相似文献

It is well known that if a multivariate outlier has one or more missing component values, then multiple imputation (MI) methods tend to impute nonextreme values and make the outlier become less extreme and less likely to be detected. In this paper, nonparametric depth-based multivariate outlier identifiers are used as criteria in a numerical study comparing several established methods of MI as well as a new proposed one, nine in all, in a setting of several actual clinical laboratory data sets of different dimensions. Two criteria, an ‘outlier recovery probability’ and a ‘relative accuracy measure’, are developed, based on depth functions. Three outlier identifiers, based on Mahalanobis distance, robust Mahalanobis distance, and generalized principle component analysis are also included in the study. Consequently, not only the comparison of imputation methods but also the comparison of outlier detection methods is accomplished in this study. Our findings show that the performance of an MI method depends on the choice of depth-based outlier detection criterion, as well as the size and dimension of the data and the fraction of missing components. By taking these features into account, an MI method for a given data set can be selected more optimally.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a nonparametric test procedure for multivariate data with grouped components under the two sample problem setting. For the construction of the test statistic, we use linear rank statistics which were derived by applying the likelihood ratio principle for each component. For the null distribution of the test statistic, we apply the permutation principle for small or moderate sample sizes and derive the limiting distribution for the large sample case. Also we illustrate our test procedure with an example and compare with other procedures through simulation study. Finally, we discuss some additional interesting features as concluding remarks.  相似文献

In this letter explicit expressions are derived for the cumulants and the vector-valued odd moments of the multivariate linearly skewed elliptical family of distributions. The general calculations of such moments are described by multivariate integrals which complicate the calculations. We show how such multivariate computations can be projected into a univariate framework, which extremely simplifies the computations.  相似文献

d -dimensional random vector X is some nondegenerate d-variate normal distribution, on the basis of i.i.d. copies X 1, ..., X x of X. Particular emphasis is given to progress that has been achieved during the last decade. Furthermore, we stress the typical diagnostic pitfall connected with purportedly ‘directed’ procedures, such as tests based on measures of multivariate skewness. Starting from the theory of the Nonparametric Combination of Dependent Permutation Tests (Pesarin, 1992, 2001), Marozzi (2002a, b) proposed two bi-aspect nonparametric tests for the two-sample and the multi-sample location problems. These tests are shown by simulation to be remarkably more powerful than the traditional parametric and permutation competitors (which can be seen as uni-aspect tests) under heavy-tailed and skewed distributions. After a brief presentation of the bi-aspect idea to location testing problems, three actual applications are discussed. The first one is a problem of business statistics and deals with the analysis of time for service calls. The second one is in medical statistics and deals with the analysis of the effect of cigarette smoking on maternal airway function during pregnancy. The third one is in industrial statistics and deals with the analysis of the setting of machines that produce steel ball bearings. The bi-aspect testing allows us to draw deeper and more informative inference than that allowed by traditional competitors.Marco Marozzi: Part of the research was done when the author was in Dipartimento di Scienze Statistiche, Universitá di Bologna, Italy.  相似文献

In this paper we study estimating the joint conditional distributions of multivariate longitudinal outcomes using regression models and copulas. For the estimation of marginal models, we consider a class of time-varying transformation models and combine the two marginal models using nonparametric empirical copulas. Our models and estimation method can be applied in many situations where the conditional mean-based models are not good enough. Empirical copulas combined with time-varying transformation models may allow quite flexible modelling for the joint conditional distributions for multivariate longitudinal data. We derive the asymptotic properties for the copula-based estimators of the joint conditional distribution functions. For illustration we apply our estimation method to an epidemiological study of childhood growth and blood pressure.  相似文献

Longitudinal imaging studies have moved to the forefront of medical research due to their ability to characterize spatio-temporal features of biological structures across the lifespan. Valid inference in longitudinal imaging requires enough flexibility of the covariance model to allow reasonable fidelity to the true pattern. On the other hand, the existence of computable estimates demands a parsimonious parameterization of the covariance structure. Separable (Kronecker product) covariance models provide one such parameterization in which the spatial and temporal covariances are modeled separately. However, evaluating the validity of this parameterization in high dimensions remains a challenge. Here we provide a scientifically informed approach to assessing the adequacy of separable (Kronecker product) covariance models when the number of observations is large relative to the number of independent sampling units (sample size). We address both the general case, in which unstructured matrices are considered for each covariance model, and the structured case, which assumes a particular structure for each model. For the structured case, we focus on the situation where the within-subject correlation is believed to decrease exponentially in time and space as is common in longitudinal imaging studies. However, the provided framework equally applies to all covariance patterns used within the more general multivariate repeated measures context. Our approach provides useful guidance for high dimension, low-sample size data that preclude using standard likelihood-based tests. Longitudinal medical imaging data of caudate morphology in schizophrenia illustrate the approaches appeal.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper studies decision theoretic properties of Stein type shrinkage estimators in simultaneous estimation of location parameters in a multivariate skew-normal distribution with known skewness parameters under a quadratic loss. The benchmark estimator is the best location equivariant estimator which is minimax. A class of shrinkage estimators improving on the best location equivariant estimator is constructed when the dimension of the location parameters is larger than or equal to four. An empirical Bayes estimator is also derived, and motivated from the Bayesian procedure, we suggest a simple skew-adjusted shrinkage estimator and show its dominance property. The performances of these estimators are investigated by simulation.  相似文献

Multivariate statistical analysis procedures often require data to be multivariate normally distributed. Many tests have been developed to verify if a sample could indeed have come from a normally distributed population. These tests do not all share the same sensitivity for detecting departures from normality, and thus a choice of test is of central importance. This study investigates through simulated data the power of those tests for multivariate normality implemented in the statistic software R and pits them against the variant of testing each marginal distribution for normality. The results of testing two-dimensional data at a level of significance α=5% showed that almost one-third of those tests implemented in R do not have a type I error below this. Other tests outperformed the naive variant in terms of power even when the marginals were not normally distributed. Even though no test was consistently better than all alternatives with every alternative distribution, the energy-statistic test always showed relatively good power across all tested sample sizes.  相似文献

A general randomization test for nonparametric hypotheses which is a modification of permutation tests in proposed. The exact level of the test is derived and under mild gegularity conditions, a general result on the consistency of the power function is obtained. Applications to several testing problems are considered. Asymptotic expansions of the power of this test are derived with respect to contiguous alternatives thus test are derived with respect to contiguous alternatives thus enabling us to make deficiency comparisons with permutation tests. The paper concludes with some Monte Carlo simulations verifying the theoretical results derived.  相似文献

Summary This paper deals with nonparametric methods for combining dependent permutation or randomization tests. Particularly, they are nonparametric with respect to the underlying dependence structure. The methods are based on a without replacement resampling procedure (WRRP) conditional on the observed data, also called conditional simulation, which provide suitable estimates, as good as computing time permits, of the permutational distribution of any statistic. A class C of combining functions is characterized in such a way that all its members, under suitable and reasonable conditions, are found to be consistent and unbiased. Moreover, for some of its members, their almost sure asymptotic equivalence with respect to best tests, in particular cases, is shown. An applicational example to a multivariate permutationalt-paired test is also discussed.  相似文献

The procedure-wise power functions of two strategies for balanced single-factor analysis of covariance in the presence of possibly unequal regression slopes are evaluated and illustrated. The strategies differ in the action to be taken following a re-^ jection by the preliminary test for equal slopes. The first strategy simply discards the covariate and respecifies the model as the one-way ANOVA model for testing factor effects. The second leaves the unequal slopes covariance model intact, but respecifies the factor effects hypothesis to address the factor level means adjusted to the sample average of the covariate. One additional strategy, that of testing factor effects only if the preliminary slopes test does not reject, is included for comparison purposes. Computation of the power functions requires extensive use of the results obtained in Hawkins and Han (1986) concerning the bivariate distributions of certain ratios of independent noncentral chi-square random variables.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to develop diagnostics analysis for nonlinear regression models (NLMs) under scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions introduced by Garay et al. [Nonlinear regression models based on SMSN distributions. J. Korean Statist. Soc. 2011;40:115–124]. This novel class of models provides a useful generalization of the symmetrical NLM [Vanegas LH, Cysneiros FJA. Assessment of diagnostic procedures in symmetrical nonlinear regression models. Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 2010;54:1002–1016] since the random terms distributions cover both symmetric as well as asymmetric and heavy-tailed distributions such as the skew-t, skew-slash, skew-contaminated normal distributions, among others. Motivated by the results given in Garay et al. [Nonlinear regression models based on SMSN distributions. J. Korean Statist. Soc. 2011;40:115–124], we presented a score test for testing the homogeneity of the scale parameter and its properties are investigated through Monte Carlo simulations studies. Furthermore, local influence measures and the one-step approximations of the estimates in the case-deletion model are obtained. The newly developed procedures are illustrated considering a real data set.  相似文献
