We investigate marked non-homogeneous Poisson processes using finite mixtures of bivariate normal components to model the spatial intensity function. We employ a Bayesian hierarchical framework for estimation of the parameters in the model, and propose an approach for including covariate information in this context. The methodology is exemplified through an application involving modeling of and inference for tornado occurrences.  相似文献

Abstract

We develop a Bayesian statistical model for estimating bowhead whale population size from photo-identification data when most of the population is uncatchable. The proposed conditional likelihood function is a product of Darroch's model, formulated as a function of the number of good photos, and a binomial distribution of captured whales given the total number of good photos at each occasion. The full Bayesian model is implemented via adaptive rejection sampling for log concave densities. We apply the model to data from 1985 and 1986 bowhead whale photographic studies and the results compare favorably with the ones obtained in the literature. Also, a comparison with the maximum likelihood procedure with bootstrap simulation is considered using different vague priors for the capture probabilities.  相似文献

Quantifying and modelling the effect of environmental variables on the abundance of species is of great importance in plant ecology and forestry. In this paper, using a log-additive model, the effect of environmental variables on distribution of five species in the Barro Colorado Island plot is modelled. The fitted log-additive models are examined and compared with conventional log-linear models. Finally, a cluster analysis is employed to classify species into groups with similar habitat preferences.  相似文献

The authors discuss a general class of hierarchical ordinal regression models that includes both location and scale parameters, allows link functions to be selected adaptively as finite mixtures of normal cumulative distribution functions, and incorporates flexible correlation structures for the latent scale variables. Exploiting the well‐known correspondence between ordinal regression models and parametric ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) curves makes it possible to use a hierarchical ROC (HROC) analysis to study multilevel clustered data in diagnostic imaging studies. The authors present a Bayesian approach to model fitting using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods and discuss HROC applications to the analysis of data from two diagnostic radiology studies involving multiple interpreters.  相似文献

Precarious employment is a serious social problem, especially in those countries, such as Italy, where there are limited benefits from social security. We investigate this phenomenon by analysing the initial part of the career of employees starting with unstable contracts for a panel of Italian workers. Our aim is to estimate the probability of getting a stable job and to detect factors influencing both this probability and the duration of precariousness. To answer these questions, we use an ad hoc mixture cure rate model in a Bayesian framework.  相似文献

We employ two different approaches to derive single and product moments of order statistics from a truncated Laplace distribution. A direct evaluation method establishes recurrence relations whereas the more general non-overlapping mixture model incorporates the truncated Laplace distribution as a special case. The results are thereafter applied to estimate location and scale parameters of such distributions.  相似文献
