信念是成功者的风帆，是摆脱重重困难的支撑，是奋发前进的动力，人一旦失去了信念，在遇到困难时，就再也不能产生出那种勇气和动力。也许，他就会掉过头来，去寻找一弯避风港。但王月香选择了前者，她拿出了十分的勇气，在困境中努力奋进。     

Position Statement on Tobacco on College and University Campuses

Objective: The authors examined the feasibility of conducting serologic testing for the herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) among university students and assessed the psychosocial impact of an HSV-2 diagnosis. Methods: The authors recruited a convenience sample of 100 students (aged 18-39 years) without a history of genital herpes from 1 university between September 2004 and March 2006. Participants received HSV-2 antibody testing by Focus ELISA and Western Blot assays and completed a questionnaire that addressed psychological functioning. Twenty-eight participants completed the questionnaire again at a 3-month follow-up visit. Results: The study revealed (1) low test-reliability in the student population, (2) that positive test results may cause a decline in psychological well-being, and (3) that substantial resources are required to support students with positive HSV-2 results. Conclusions: Test performance, psychological impact, and availability of resources for counseling students with positive diagnoses should be considered before implementing HSV testing programs.     

Notes on materiality and sociality

In this paper it is argued that materiality and sociality are produced together. In order to explore the implications of this suggestion, three metaphors are developed through a series of note-like stories. The first is that of semiotics. This suggests that materials are relational effects. The second is that of strategy. Here it is suggested that strategy is recursively and reflexively implicated in the performance of materiality. And the third is that of the patchwork. This is a way of exploring the possibility that though material and social relations might be matters of local performance, they may not ‘add up’ to form an overall pattern or structure.     

More on preference and freedom

The paper seeks to formalize the notion of effective freedom or the freedom to realize meaningful choices. The definition of meaningful choice used in this paper is based on the preference orderings that a reasonable person may have. I argue that only alternatives that can be selected by a reasonable person from the set of all possible alternatives provide a meaningful choice. I discuss this approach and provide an axiomatization of the cardinality rule and two lexicographic versions of this rule in this context. Received: 24 September 1996/Accepted: 26 January 2000

ABSTRACT

Women Veterans who experience homelessness are at high risk of unintended pregnancy and adverse outcomes. Contraception could mitigate risks, yet access barriers exist across the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). We identified all US women Veterans, age 18–44y with evidence of homelessness in VHA administrative data between fiscal years 2002–2015, in order to document the geographic distribution of ever-homeless women Veterans in relation to VA Medical Centers (VAMCs) and assess geographic associations between long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) or permanent contraception (PC) use. We calculated VAMC travel distance from last known ZIP Code. We used multivariate logistic regression models to explore contraceptive method associations. We included 41,722 ever-homeless women Veterans; 9.2% had LARC exposure and 7.5% PC. We found 29% of ever-homeless women Veterans resided >40miles from the nearest VAMC and increasing drive distance was negatively correlated with contraceptive exposure, especially for Veterans residing >100miles from a VAMC. Increasing distance to the nearest VAMC results in a geographic barrier to the most effective contraceptive options for women Veterans. The VHA is uniquely positioned to leverage its rural and homeless healthcare expertise to address geographic barriers and integrate comprehensive contraceptive services into established programs for high-risk Veterans.

2007年7月12日到18日,由中宣部原副部长朱厚泽、国家开发银行顾问史善新带队的中国城市科学研究会皖江城市带调研组到安徽安庆、池州、铜陵、芜湖、马鞍山进行了调研,调研组成员有中国城市科学研究会秘书长顾文选、中国人民大学教授叶裕民、山西省城市科学研究会理事长曹昌智、天津市城市科学研究会副会长王明浩、国务院发展研究中心战略发展研究部研究室主任刘勇、国家发改委宏观经济研究院国土经济研究所研究员史育龙、中国城市规划设计研究院区域所教授级城市规划师张文奇等。安徽省建设厅厅长倪虹对此次调研给予了具体指导,副厅长吴晓勤、安徽省规划院副院长胡厚国等同志参与了具体调研。调研后,调研组也提出了调研总报告,调研组成员均撰写了调研报告,其中王明浩撰写的《皖江城市带发展析疑》已于本刊2007年11期先期发表。现本刊将调研组总报告及部分调研组成员的调研报告予以发表。
