Optimal designs for the power logistic model

We investigate non-sequential designs for estimating model parameters in a power logistic model when the power is assumed to be approximately known and only the ranges for the other two parameters are available. The sensitivity of these designs to nominal values of all the three parameters are studied and our proposed optimal designs are shown to be reasonably robust under moderate deviation from the assumed model. An application to a toxicity experiment involving adult beetles is discussed, including the benefits of using an optimal design.     

Optimal designs for additive mixture model with heteroscedastic errors

This paper presents a study of D- and A-optimality of direct sum designs for additive mixture models when the errors are heteroscedastic. Sufficient conditions are given so that D- and A-optimal designs for additive mixture models can be constructed from the D- and A-optimal designs for homogeneous models in sub-mixture systems.     

Optimal designs for both model discrimination and parameter estimation

The KL-optimality criterion has been recently proposed to discriminate between any two statistical models. However, designs which are optimal for model discrimination may be inadequate for parameter estimation. In this paper, the DKL-optimality criterion is proposed which is useful for the dual problem of model discrimination and parameter estimation. An equivalence theorem and a stopping rule for the corresponding iterative algorithms are provided. A pharmacokinetics application and a bioassay example are given to show the good properties of a DKL-optimum design.     

Optimal blocking and foldover plans for nonregular two-level designs

This paper discusses the issue of choosing optimal designs when both blocking and foldover techniques are simultaneously employed to nonregular two-level fractional factorial designs. By using the indicator function, the treatment and block generalized wordlength patterns of the combined blocked design under a general foldover plan are defined. Some general properties of combined block designs are also obtained. Our results extend the findings of Ai et al. (2010) from regular designs to nonregular designs. Based on these theoretical results, a catalog of optimal blocking and foldover plans in terms of the generalized aberration criterion for nonregular initial design with 12, 16 and 20 runs is tabulated, respectively.
