ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider a retrial queueing system consisting of a waiting line of infinite capacity in front of a single server subject to breakdowns. A customer upon arrival may join the queue (waiting line) or go to the retrial orbit (another queue) to retry for service after a random time. Only the customer at the head of the retrial orbit is allowed to retry for service. Upon retrial, the customer enters the service if the server is idle; otherwise, it may go back to the retrial orbit or leave the system (become impatient). All the interarrival times, service times, server up times, server down times and retrial times are exponential, and all the necessary independence conditions in these variables are assumed. For this system, we provide sufficient conditions under which, for any given number of customers in the orbit, the stationary probability of the number of customers in the waiting line decays geometrically. We also provide explicitly an expression for the decay parameter.  相似文献

We derive the variance constant of continuous-time level dependent quasi-birth-and-death processes by investigating the expected integral functionals of the first return times. As an application, we consider the variance constant for the M/M/c retrial queue with non-persistent customers. For this model, analytical expressions and numerical results are obtained for the cases of single server and multiple servers, respectively. We also apply the obtained result to test the M/M/c vacation model for airport security pre-board screening checkpoint services by constructing a confidence interval for the mean queue length.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, customers’ strategic behavior and social optimation in a constant retrial queue with setup time and the N-policy are investigated. Customers who find the server isn’t idle either leave forever or enter an orbit. After a service, the server will seek a customer from the orbit at a constant rate. The server is closed whenever the system becomes empty, and is activated when the number of waitlisted customers reaches a threshold. We obtain the equilibrium arrival rates in different states. There exist both Follow-the-Crowd (FTC) and Avoid-the-Crowd (ATC) behaviors. Through the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, we numerically obtain the optimal solution of the social welfare maximization problem. Finally, numerical examples are presented to illustrate the sensitivity of system performance measures.  相似文献

This paper aims at presenting an analytic approach for investigating a single-server retrial queue with finite population of customers where the server is subject to interruptions. A free source may generate a primary call to request service. If the server is free upon arrival, the call starts to be served and the service times are independent, generally distributed random variables. During the service time the source cannot generate a new primary call. After service the source moves into the free state and can generate a new primary call. There is no waiting space in front of the server, and a call who finds the server unavailable upon arrival joins an orbit of unsatisfied customers. The server is subject to interruptions during the service processes. When the server is interrupted, the call being served just before server interruption goes to the retrial orbit and will retry its luck after a random amount of time until it finds the server available. The recovery times of the interrupted server are assumed to be generally distributed. Our analysis extends previous work on this topic and includes the analysis of the arriving customer’s distribution, the busy period, and the waiting time process.  相似文献

In this paper, an M/G/1 retrial system with two classes of customers: transit and recurrent customers is studied. After service completion, recurrent customers always return to the orbit and transit customers leave the system forever. The server is subject to breakdowns and delayed repairs. The customer whose service is interrupted stays in the service, waiting for delay and repair of the server. After repair this customer completes his service. The study of the system concerns the joint generating function of the server state and the queue length in steady state. Some performance measures of the system are then derived and some numerical results are presented to illustrate the effect of the system parameters on the developed performance measures.  相似文献

In a two-treatment trial, a two-sided test is often used to reach a conclusion, Usually we are interested in doing a two-sided test because of no prior preference between the two treatments and we want a three-decision framework. When a standard control is just as good as the new experimental treatment (which has the same toxicity and cost), then we will accept both treatments. Only when the standard control is clearly worse or better than the new experimental treatment, then we choose only one treatment. In this paper, we extend the concept of a two-sided test to the multiple treatment trial where three or more treatments are involved. The procedure turns out to be a subset selection procedure; however, the theoretical framework and performance requirement are different from the existing subset selection procedures. Two procedures (exclusion or inclusion) are developed here for the case of normal data with equal known variance. If the sample size is large, they can be applied with unknown variance and with the binomial data or survival data with random censoring.  相似文献

In quality control, we may confront imprecise concepts. One case is a situation in which upper and lower specification limits (SLs) are imprecise. If we introduce vagueness into SLs, we face quite new, reasonable and interesting processes, and the ordinary capability indices are not appropriate for measuring the capability of these processes. In this paper, similar to the traditional process capability indices (PCIs), we develop a fuzzy analogue by a distance defined on a fuzzy limit space and introduce PCIs, where instead of precise SLs we have two membership functions for upper and lower SLs. These indices are necessary when SLs are fuzzy, and they are helpful for comparing manufacturing process with fuzzy SLs. Some interesting relations among these introduced indices are proved. Numerical examples are given to clarify the method.  相似文献

本文旨在研究基于fused惩罚的稀疏主成分分析方法,以适用于相邻变量之间高度相关甚至完全相等的数据情形。首先,从回归分析角度出发,提出一种求解稀疏主成分的简便思路,给出一种广义的稀疏主成分模型—— GSPCA模型及其求解算法,并证明在惩罚函数取1-范数时,该模型与现有的稀疏主成分模型——SPC模型的求解结果一致。其次,本文提出将fused惩罚与主成分分析相结合,得到一种fused稀疏主成分分析方法,并从惩罚性矩阵分解和回归分析两个角度,给出两种模型形式。在理论上证明了两种模型的求解结果是一致的,故将其统称为FSPCA模型。模拟实验显示,FSPCA模型在处理相邻变量之间高度相关甚至完全相等的数据集上的表现良好。最后,将FSPCA模型应用于手写数字识别,发现与SPC模型相比,FSPCA模型所提取的主成分具备更好的解释性,这使得该模型更具实用价值。  相似文献

In this paper, we propose several dimension reduction methods when the covariates are measured with additive distortion measurement errors. These distortions are modelled by unknown functions of a commonly observable confounding variable. To estimate the central subspace, we propose residuals-based dimension reduction estimation methods and direct estimation methods. The consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators are investigated. Furthermore, we conduct some simulations to evaluate the performance of our proposed method and compare with existing methods, and a real data set is analysed for illustration.  相似文献

When analyzing data on subjective expectations of continuous outcomes, researchers have access to a limited number of reported probabilities for each respondent from which to construct complete distribution functions. Moreover, reported probabilities may be rounded and thus not equal to true beliefs. Using survival expectations elicited from a representative sample from the Netherlands, we investigate what can be learned if we take these two sources of missing information into account and expectations are therefore only partially identified. We find novel evidence for rounding by checking whether reported expectations are consistent with a hazard of death that increases weakly with age. Only 39% of reported beliefs are consistent with this under the assumption that all probabilities are reported precisely, while 92% are if we allow for rounding. Using the available information to construct bounds on subjective life expectancy, we show that the data alone are not sufficiently informative to allow for useful inference in partially identified linear models, even in the absence of rounding. We propose to improve precision by interpolation between rounded probabilities. Interpolation in combination with a limited amount of rounding does yield informative intervals.  相似文献

For the portfolio problem with unknown parameter values, we compare the conventional certainty equivalence portfolio choice with the optimal Bayes portfolio. In the important single risky asset case a diffuse Bayes rule leads to portfolios that differ significantly from those suggested by a certainty equivalence rule which we show are inadmissible relative to a quadratic utility function for the range of parameters we consider. These results are invariant to arbitrary changes in the utility function parameters. We illustrate the results using a simple mutual fund example.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new full iteration estimation method for quantile regression (QR) of the single-index model (SIM). The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator are derived. Furthermore, we propose a variable selection procedure for the QR of SIM by combining the estimation method with the adaptive LASSO penalized method to get sparse estimation of the index parameter. The oracle properties of the variable selection method are established. Simulations with various non-normal errors are conducted to demonstrate the finite sample performance of the estimation method and the variable selection procedure. Furthermore, we illustrate the proposed method by analyzing a real data set.  相似文献

In this work we address the problem of the construction of prediction regions and distribution functions, with particular regard to the multidimensional setting. Firstly, we define a simple procedure for calculating the predictive distribution function which gives improved prediction limits. Secondly, with a multivariate generalization of a result presented in Ueki and Fueda (2007), we propose a method for correcting estimative prediction regions, to reduce their coverage error to the third-order accuracy. The improved prediction regions and the associated distribution functions are easy to calculate using a suitable bootstrap procedure. Examples of application are included, showing the good performance of the proposed method, even if we consider an approximated model for prediction purposes.  相似文献

There are many approaches in the estimation of spectral density. With regard to parametric approaches, different divergences are proposed in fitting a certain parametric family of spectral densities. Moreover, nonparametric approaches are also quite common considering the situation when we cannot specify the model of process. In this paper, we develop a local Whittle likelihood approach based on a general score function, with some special cases of which, the approach applies to more applications. This paper highlights the effective asymptotics of our general local Whittle estimator, and presents a comparison with other estimators. Additionally, for a special case, we construct the one-step ahead predictor based on the form of the score function. Subsequently, we show that it has a smaller prediction error than the classical exponentially weighted linear predictor. The provided numerical studies show some interesting features of our local Whittle estimator.  相似文献

In this article, we consider urn models under three types of sampling schemes in terms of the probability-generating functions. The tools are developed for the evaluation of the distributions arising from the urn models along with some examples. Furthermore, the distributions are investigated by making use of the Bell polynomials. The results presented here provide a wide framework for developing the theory of urn models. As examples, we propose new class of probability models, which are called multiple-player problems and examine their properties. Finally, we treat the parameter estimation problem in the waiting time distributions with a numerical example.  相似文献

In a previous paper Gastwirth shows that a broad family of measures of inequality can be accurately estimated when the tax data are known in groups (more precisely, when we know the number of returns in each of several class intervals and their corresponding average income). In the present paper we show that some measures of the preceding family can be unbiasedly estimated when the tax data are individually known for a sample from the population. Specifically, we construct unbiased estimators of a particular measure of inequality in the samplings with and without replacement, and in the stratified samplings with and without replacement.  相似文献

For a random sample from a population with a continuous density function over its bounded support, when the sample size turns to infinity, we explore the uniform integrability of normalized extreme order statistics, for which we obtain limit equivalent expressions of variances. Moreover, we prove that the covariance of the minimum and the maximum of the sample can be bounded by two expressions that are same order infinitesimals. Abstract.  We investigate bootstrapping and Bayesian methods for prediction. The observations and the variable being predicted are distributed according to different distributions. Many important problems can be formulated in this setting. This type of prediction problem appears when we deal with a Poisson process. Regression problems can also be formulated in this setting. First, we show that bootstrap predictive distributions are equivalent to Bayesian predictive distributions in the second-order expansion when some conditions are satisfied. Next, the performance of predictive distributions is compared with that of a plug-in distribution with an estimator. The accuracy of prediction is evaluated by using the Kullback–Leibler divergence. Finally, we give some examples.  相似文献

Practical statistical analysis of diffusion tensor images is considered, and we focus primarily on methods that use metrics based on Euclidean distances between powers of diffusion tensors. First, we describe a family of anisotropy measures based on a scale invariant power-Euclidean metric, which are useful for visualisation. Some properties of the measures are derived and practical considerations are discussed, with some examples. Second, we discuss weighted Procrustes methods for diffusion tensor imaging interpolation and smoothing, and we compare methods based on different metrics on a set of examples as well as analytically. We establish a key relationship between the principal-square-root-Euclidean metric and the size-and-shape Procrustes metric on the space of symmetric positive semi-definite tensors. We explain, both analytically and by experiments, why the size-and-shape Procrustes metric may be preferred in practical tasks of interpolation, extrapolation and smoothing, especially when observed tensors are degenerate or when a moderate degree of tensor swelling is desirable. Third, we introduce regularisation methodology, which is demonstrated to be useful for highlighting features of prior interest and potentially for segmentation. Finally, we compare several metrics in a data set of human brain diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging, and point out similarities between several of the non-Euclidean metrics but important differences with the commonly used Euclidean metric.  相似文献
