A p-value is developed for testing the equivalence of the variances of a bivariate normal distribution. The unknown correlation coefficient is a nuisance parameter in the problem. If the correlation is known, the proposed p-value provides an exact test. For large samples, the p-value can be computed by replacing the unknown correlation by the sample correlation, and the resulting test is quite satisfactory. For small samples, it is proposed to compute the p-value by replacing the unknown correlation by a scalar multiple of the sample correlation. However, a single scalar is not satisfactory, and it is proposed to use different scalars depending on the magnitude of the sample correlation coefficient. In order to implement this approach, tables are obtained providing sub-intervals for the sample correlation coefficient, and the scalars to be used if the sample correlation coefficient belongs to a particular sub-interval. Once such tables are available, the proposed p-value is quite easy to compute since it has an explicit analytic expression. Numerical results on the type I error probability and power are reported on the performance of such a test, and the proposed p-value test is also compared to another test based on a rejection region. The results are illustrated with two examples: an example dealing with the comparability of two measuring devices, and an example dealing with the assessment of bioequivalence.  相似文献

Consider a system of n components that has the property that there exists a number r  (r<n)(r<n), such that if it is known that at most r components have failed, the system is still functioning with probability 1. Suppose that such a system is equipped with a warning light that comes up at the time of the failure of the rth component. The system is still working then, and we are interested in its residual life. In this paper we obtain some results which stochastically compare the residual lives of such systems with the same type, or with different types, of components. Some applications are given. In particular, we derive upper and lower bounds on the expected residual lives of such systems given that the warning light has not come up yet, and given that the component hazard rate functions are bounded from below or from above by a known constant.  相似文献

We propose a new procedure for combining multiple tests in samples of right-censored observations. The new method is based on multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood where the constraints are formulated as linear functionals of the cumulative hazard functions. We prove a version of Wilks’ theorem for the multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood ratio, which provides a simple reference distribution for the test statistic of our proposed method. A useful application of the proposed method is, for example, examining the survival experience of different populations by combining different weighted log-rank tests. Real data examples are given using the log-rank and Gehan-Wilcoxon tests. In a simulation study of two sample survival data, we compare the proposed method of combining tests to previously developed procedures. The results demonstrate that, in addition to its computational simplicity, the combined test performs comparably to, and in some situations more reliably than previously developed procedures. Statistical software is available in the R package ‘emplik’.  相似文献

It is an important problem in reliability analysis to decide whether for a given k-out-of-n system the static or the sequential k-out-of-n model is appropriate. Often components are redundantly added to a system to protect against failure of the system. If the failure of any component of the system induces a higher rate of failure of the remaining components due to increased load, the sequential k-out-of-n model is appropriate. The increase of the failure rate of the remaining components after a failure of some component implies that the effects of the component redundancy are diminished. On the other hand, if all the components have the same failure distribution and whenever a failure occurs, the remaining components are not affected, the static k-out-of-n model is adequate. In this paper, we consider nonparametric hypothesis tests to make a decision between these two models. We analyze test statistics based on the profile score process as well as test statistics based on a multivariate intensity ratio and derive their asymptotic distribution. Finally, we compare the different test statistics.  相似文献

Location-scale invariant Bickel–Rosenblatt goodness-of-fit tests (IBR tests) are considered in this paper to test the hypothesis that f, the common density function of the observed independent d-dimensional random vectors, belongs to a null location-scale family of density functions. The asymptotic behaviour of the test procedures for fixed and non-fixed bandwidths is studied by using an unifying approach. We establish the limiting null distribution of the test statistics, the consistency of the associated tests and we derive its asymptotic power against sequences of local alternatives. These results show the asymptotic superiority, for fixed and local alternatives, of IBR tests with fixed bandwidth over IBR tests with non-fixed bandwidth.  相似文献

Biased sampling occurs often in observational studies. With one biased sample, the problem of nonparametrically estimating both a target density function and a selection bias function is unidentifiable. This paper studies the nonparametric estimation problem when there are two biased samples that have some overlapping observations (i.e. recaptures) from a finite population. Since an intelligent subject sampled previously may experience a memory effect if sampled again, two general 2-stage models that incorporate both a selection bias and a possible memory effect are proposed. Nonparametric estimators of the target density, selection bias, and memory functions, as well as the population size are developed. Asymptotic properties of these estimators are studied and confidence bands for the selection function and memory function are provided. Our procedures are compared with those ignoring the memory effect or the selection bias in finite sample situations. A nonparametric model selection procedure is also given for choosing a model from the two 2-stage models and a mixture of these two models. Our procedures work well with or without a memory effect, and with or without a selection bias. The paper concludes with an application to a real survey data set.  相似文献

This paper examines modeling and inference questions for experiments in which different subsets of a set of k possibly dependent components are tested in r different environments. In each environment, the failure times of the set of components on test is assumed to be governed by a particular type of multivariate exponential (MVE) distribution. For any given component tested in several environments, it is assumed that its marginal failure rate varies from one environment to another via a change of scale between the environments, resulting in a joint MVE model which links in a natural way the applicable MVE distributions describing component behavior in each fixed environment. This study thus extends the work of Proschan and Sullo (1976) to multiple environments and the work of Kvam and Samaniego (1993) to dependent data. The problem of estimating model parameters via the method of maximum likelihood is examined in detail. First, necessary and sufficient conditions for the identifiability of model parameters are established. We then treat the derivation of the MLE via a numerically-augmented application of the EM algorithm. The feasibility of the estimation method is demonstrated in an example in which the likelihood ratio test of the hypothesis of equal component failure rates within any given environment is carried out.  相似文献

The main characteristic of a load sharing system is that after the failure of one component the surviving components have to shoulder extra load and hence are prone to failure at an earlier time than what is expected under the original model. In others, the failure of one component may release extra resources to the survivors, thus delaying the system failure. In this paper we consider such m component systems and some observation schemes and identifiability issues under them. Then we construct a general semiparametric multivariate family of distributions which explicitly models this phenomenon through proportional conditional hazards. We suggest estimates for the constant of proportionality. We propose a nonparametric test for the hypothesis that the failures take place independently according to the common distribution against the alternative hypothesis that the second failure takes place earlier than warranted, study its properties and illustrate its use.  相似文献

Joint modeling of degradation and failure time data   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper surveys some approaches to model the relationship between failure time data and covariate data like internal degradation and external environmental processes. These models which reflect the dependency between system state and system reliability include threshold models and hazard-based models. In particular, we consider the class of degradation–threshold–shock models (DTS models) in which failure is due to the competing causes of degradation and trauma. For this class of reliability models we express the failure time in terms of degradation and covariates. We compute the survival function of the resulting failure time and derive the likelihood function for the joint observation of failure times and degradation data at discrete times. We consider a special class of DTS models where degradation is modeled by a process with stationary independent increments and related to external covariates through a random time scale and extend this model class to repairable items by a marked point process approach. The proposed model class provides a rich conceptual framework for the study of degradation–failure issues.  相似文献

In many applications of generalized linear mixed models to clustered correlated or longitudinal data, often we are interested in testing whether a random effects variance component is zero. The usual asymptotic mixture of chi‐square distributions of the score statistic for testing constrained variance components does not necessarily hold. In this article, the author proposes and explores a parametric bootstrap test that appears to be valid based on its estimated level of significance under the null hypothesis. Results from a simulation study indicate that the bootstrap test has a level much closer to the nominal one while the asymptotic test is conservative, and is more powerful than the usual asymptotic score test based on a mixture of chi‐squares. The proposed bootstrap test is illustrated using two sets of real‐life data obtained from clinical trials. The Canadian Journal of Statistics © 2009 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

Mudholkar and Srivastava [1993. Exponentiated Weibull family for analyzing bathtub failure data. IEEE Trans. Reliability 42, 299–302] introduced three-parameter exponentiated Weibull distribution. Two-parameter exponentiated exponential or generalized exponential distribution is a particular member of the exponentiated Weibull distribution. Generalized exponential distribution has a right skewed unimodal density function and monotone hazard function similar to the density functions and hazard functions of the gamma and Weibull distributions. It is observed that it can be used quite effectively to analyze lifetime data in place of gamma, Weibull and log-normal distributions. The genesis of this model, several properties, different estimation procedures and their properties, estimation of the stress-strength parameter, closeness of this distribution to some of the well-known distribution functions are discussed in this article.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In a load-sharing system, the failure of a component affects the residual lifetime of the surviving components. We propose a model for the load-sharing phenomenon in k-out-of-m systems. The model is based on exponentiated conditional distributions of the order statistics formed by the failure times of the components. For an illustration, we consider two component parallel systems with the initial lifetimes of the components having Weibull and linear failure rate distributions. We analyze one data set to show that the proposed model may be a better fit than the model based on sequential order statistics.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the long-run availability of a parallel system having several independent renewable components with exponentially distributed failure and repair times. We are interested in testing availability of the system or constructing a lower confidence bound for the availability by using component test data. For this problem, there is no exact test or confidence bound available and only approximate methods are available in the literature. Using the generalized p-value approach, an exact test and a generalized confidence interval are given. An example is given to illustrate the proposed procedures. A simulation study is given to demonstrate their advantages over the other available approximate procedures. Based on type I and type II error rates, the simulation study shows that the generalized procedures outperform the other available methods.  相似文献

For testing the hypothesis that several (s?2) linear regression surfaces Xki=αk+βkcki+Zki (k=1,…,s) are parallel to one another, i.e., β1=?=βs, a class of rank-order tests are considered. The tests are shown to be asymptotically distribution-free, and their asymptotic efficiency relative to the general likelihood ratio test is derived. Asymptotic optimality in the sense of Wald is also discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, the hypothesis testing and interval estimation for the intraclass correlation coefficients are considered in a two-way random effects model with interaction. Two particular intraclass correlation coefficients are described in a reliability study. The tests and confidence intervals for the intraclass correlation coefficients are developed when the data are unbalanced. One approach is based on the generalized p-value and generalized confidence interval, the other is based on the modified large-sample idea. These two approaches simplify to the ones in Gilder et al. [2007. Confidence intervals on intraclass correlation coefficients in a balanced two-factor random design. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 137, 1199–1212] when the data are balanced. Furthermore, some statistical properties of the generalized confidence intervals are investigated. Finally, some simulation results to compare the performance of the modified large-sample approach with that of the generalized approach are reported. The simulation results indicate that the modified large-sample approach performs better than the generalized approach in the coverage probability and expected length of the confidence interval.  相似文献

In this paper, two new statistics based on comparison of the theoretical and empirical distribution functions are proposed to test exponentiality. Critical values are determined by means of Monte Carlo simulations for various sample sizes and different significance levels. Through an extensive simulation study, 50 selected exponentiality tests are studied for a wide collection of alternative distributions. From the empirical power study, it is concluded that, firstly, one of our proposals is preferable for IFR (increasing failure rate) and UFR (unimodal failure rate) alternatives, whereas the other one is preferable for DFR (decreasing failure rate) and BFR (bathtub failure rate) alternatives and, secondly, the new tests can be considered serious and powerful competitors to other existing proposals, since they have the same (or higher) level of performance than the best tests in the statistical literature.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

System failure data is often analyzed to estimate component reliabilities. Due to cost and time constraints, the exact component causing the failure of the system cannot be identified in some cases. This phenomenon is called masking. Further, it is sometimes necessary for us to take account of the influence of the operating environment. Here we consider a series system, operating under unknown environment, of two components whose failure times follow the Marshall-Olkin bivariate exponential distribution. We present a maximum likelihood approach for obtaining estimators from the masked data for this system. From a simulation study, we found that the relative errors of the estimates are almost well behaved even for small or moderate expected number of systems whose cause of failure is identified.  相似文献

This article investigates the large sample interval mapping method for genetic trait loci (GTL) in a finite non-linear regression mixture model. The general model includes most commonly used kernel functions, such as exponential family mixture, logistic regression mixture and generalized linear mixture models, as special cases. The populations derived from either the backcross or intercross design are considered. In particular, unlike all existing results in the literature in the finite mixture models, the large sample results presented in this paper do not require the boundness condition on the parametric space. Therefore, the large sample theory presented in this article possesses general applicability to the interval mapping method of GTL in genetic research. The limiting null distribution of the likelihood ratio test statistics can be utilized easily to determine the threshold values or p-values required in the interval mapping. The limiting distribution is proved to be free of the parameter values of null model and free of the choice of a kernel function. Extension to the multiple marker interval GTL detection is also discussed. Simulation study results show favorable performance of the asymptotic procedure when sample sizes are moderate.  相似文献
