We propose a new procedure for combining multiple tests in samples of right-censored observations. The new method is based on multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood where the constraints are formulated as linear functionals of the cumulative hazard functions. We prove a version of Wilks’ theorem for the multiple constrained censored empirical likelihood ratio, which provides a simple reference distribution for the test statistic of our proposed method. A useful application of the proposed method is, for example, examining the survival experience of different populations by combining different weighted log-rank tests. Real data examples are given using the log-rank and Gehan-Wilcoxon tests. In a simulation study of two sample survival data, we compare the proposed method of combining tests to previously developed procedures. The results demonstrate that, in addition to its computational simplicity, the combined test performs comparably to, and in some situations more reliably than previously developed procedures. The median is a commonly used parameter to characterize biomarker data. In particular, with two vastly different underlying distributions, comparing medians provides different information than comparing means; however, very few tests for medians are available. We propose a series of two‐sample median‐specific tests using empirical likelihood methodology and investigate their properties. We present the technical details of incorporating the relevant constraints into the empirical likelihood function for in‐depth median testing. An extensive Monte Carlo study shows that the proposed tests have excellent operating characteristics even under unfavourable occasions such as non‐exchangeability under the null hypothesis. We apply the proposed methods to analyze biomarker data from Western blot analysis to compare normal cells with bronchial epithelial cells from a case–control study. The weighted likelihood is a generalization of the likelihood designed to borrow strength from similar populations while making minimal assumptions. If the weights are properly chosen, the maximum weighted likelihood estimate may perform better than the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE). In a previous article, the minimum averaged mean squared error (MAMSE) weights are proposed and simulations show that they allow to outperform the MLE in many cases. In this paper, we study the asymptotic properties of the MAMSE weights. In particular, we prove that the MAMSE-weighted mixture of empirical distribution functions converges uniformly to the target distribution and that the maximum weighted likelihood estimate is strongly consistent. A short simulation illustrates the use of bootstrap in this context.  相似文献

Rényi divergences are used to propose some statistics for testing general hypotheses in mixed linear regression models. The asymptotic distribution of these tests statistics, of the Kullback–Leibler and of the likelihood ratio statistics are provided, assuming that the sample size and the number of levels of the random factors tend to infinity. A simulation study is carried out to analyze and compare the behavior of the proposed tests when the sample size and number of levels are small.  相似文献

Continuous non-Gaussian stationary processes of the OU-type are becoming increasingly popular given their flexibility in modelling stylized features of financial series such as asymmetry, heavy tails and jumps. The use of non-Gaussian marginal distributions makes likelihood analysis of these processes unfeasible for virtually all cases of interest. This paper exploits the self-decomposability of the marginal laws of OU processes to provide explicit expressions of the characteristic function which can be applied to several models as well as to develop efficient estimation techniques based on the empirical characteristic function. Extensions to OU-based stochastic volatility models are provided.  相似文献

This paper discusses asymptotically distribution free tests for the lack-of-fit of a parametric regression model in the Berkson measurement error model. These tests are based on a martingale transform of a certain marked empirical process of calibrated residuals. A simulation study is included to assess the effect of measurement error on the proposed test. It is observed that empirical level is more stable across the chosen measurement error variances when fitting a linear model compared to when fitting a nonlinear model, while, in both cases, the empirical power decreases as this error variance increases, against all chosen alternatives.  相似文献

A unified approach of parameter-estimation and goodness-of-fit testing is proposed. The new procedures may be applied to arbitrary laws with continuous distribution function. Specifically, both the method of estimation and the goodness-of-fit test are based on the idea of optimally transforming the original data to the uniform distribution, the criterion of optimality being an L2-type distance between the empirical characteristic function of the transformed data, and the characteristic function of the uniform (0,1)(0,1) distribution. Theoretical properties of the new estimators and tests are studied and some connections with classical statistics, moment-based procedures and non-parametric methods are investigated. Comparison with standard procedures via Monte Carlo is also included, along with a real-data application.  相似文献

We define a class of count distributions which includes the Poisson as well as many alternative count models. Then the empirical probability generating function is utilized to construct a test for the Poisson distribution, which is consistent against this class of alternatives. The limit distribution of the test statistic is derived in case of a general underlying distribution, and efficiency considerations are addressed. A simulation study indicates that the new test is comparable in performance to more complicated omnibus tests.  相似文献

In this paper, we use a smoothed empirical likelihood method to investigate the difference of quantiles under censorship. An empirical log-likelihood ratio is derived and its asymptotic distribution is shown to be chi-squared. Approximate confidence regions based on this method are constructed. Simulation studies are used to compare the empirical likelihood and the normal approximation method in terms of its coverage accuracy. It is found that the empirical likelihood method provides a much better performance. The research is supported by NSFC (10231030) and RFDP.  相似文献

In this paper the estimating equation is constructed via statistical depth. The obtained estimating equation and parameter estimation have desirable robustness, which attain very high breakdown values close to 1/2. At the same time, the obtained parameter estimation still has ordinary asymptotic behaviours such as asymptotic normality. In particular, the robust quasi likelihood and depth-weighted LSE respectively for nonlinear and linear regression model are introduced. A suggestion for choosing weight function and a method of constructing depth-weighed quasi likelihood equation are given. Integer-valued time series models and their applications have attracted a lot of attention over the last years. In this paper, we introduce a class of observation-driven random coefficient integer-valued autoregressive processes based on negative binomial thinning, where the autoregressive parameter depends on the observed values of the previous moment. Basic probability and statistics properties of the process are established. The unknown parameters are estimated by the conditional least squares and empirical likelihood methods. Specially, we consider three aspects of the empirical likelihood method: maximum empirical likelihood estimate, confidence region and EL test. The performance of the two estimation methods is compared through simulation studies. Finally, an application to a real data example is provided.  相似文献

We consider the comparison of mean vectors for k groups when k is large and sample size per group is fixed. The asymptotic null and non-null distributions of the normal theory likelihood ratio, Lawley–Hotelling and Bartlett–Nanda–Pillai statistics are derived under general conditions. We extend the results to tests on the profiles of the mean vectors, tests for additional information (provided by a sub-vector of the responses over and beyond the remaining sub-vector of responses in separating the groups) and tests on the dimension of the hyperplane formed by the mean vectors. Our techniques are based on perturbation expansions and limit theorems applied to independent but non-identically distributed sequences of quadratic forms in random matrices. In all these four MANOVA problems, the asymptotic null and non-null distributions are normal. Both the null and non-null distributions are asymptotically invariant to non-normality when the group sample sizes are equal. In the unbalanced case, a slight modification of the test statistics will lead to asymptotically robust tests. Based on the robustness results, some approaches for finite approximation are introduced. The numerical results provide strong support for the asymptotic results and finiteness approximations.  相似文献

This article considers a time series model with a deterministic trend, in which multiple structural changes are explicitly taken into account, while the number and the location of change-points are unknown. We aim to figure out the best model with the appropriate number of change-points and a certain length of segments between points. We derive a posterior probability and then apply a genetic algorithm (GA) to calculate the posterior probabilities to locate the change-points. GA results in a powerful flexible tool which is shown to search over possible change-points. Numerical results obtained from simulation experiments show excellent empirical properties. To verify our model retrospectively, we estimate structural change-points with US and South Korean GDP data.  相似文献

We discuss the general form of a first-order correction to the maximum likelihood estimator which is expressed in terms of the gradient of a function, which could for example be the logarithm of a prior density function. In terms of Kullback–Leibler divergence, the correction gives an asymptotic improvement over maximum likelihood under rather general conditions. The theory is illustrated for Bayes estimators with conjugate priors. The optimal choice of hyper-parameter to improve the maximum likelihood estimator is discussed. The results based on Kullback–Leibler risk are extended to a wide class of risk functions.  相似文献

In this paper tests of hypothesis are constructed for the family of skew normal distributions. The proposed tests utilize the fact that the moment generating function of the skew normal variable satisfies a simple differential equation. The empirical counterpart of this equation, involving the empirical moment generating function, yields simple consistent test statistics. Finite-sample results as well as results from real data are provided for the proposed procedures.  相似文献

This article concerns the variance estimation in the central limit theorem for finite recurrent Markov chains. The associated variance is calculated in terms of the transition matrix of the Markov chain. We prove the equivalence of different matrix forms representing this variance. The maximum likelihood estimator for this variance is constructed and it is proved that it is strongly consistent and asymptotically normal. The main part of our analysis consists in presenting closed matrix forms for this new variance. Additionally, we prove the asymptotic equivalence between the empirical and the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) for the stationary distribution.  相似文献

We examine the issue of asymptotic efficiency of estimation for response adaptive designs of clinical trials, from which the collected data set contains a dependency structure. We establish the asymptotic lower bound of exponential rates for consistent estimators. Under certain regularity conditions, we show that the maximum likelihood estimator achieves the asymptotic lower bound for response adaptive trials with dichotomous responses. Furthermore, it is shown that the maximum likelihood estimator of the treatment effect is asymptotically efficient in the Bahadur sense for response adaptive clinical trials.  相似文献

We propose different multivariate nonparametric tests for factorial designs and derive their asymptotic distribution for the situation where the number of replications is limited, whereas the number of treatments goes to infinity (large a, small n case). In this paper, the hypothesis testing and interval estimation for the intraclass correlation coefficients are considered in a two-way random effects model with interaction. Two particular intraclass correlation coefficients are described in a reliability study. The tests and confidence intervals for the intraclass correlation coefficients are developed when the data are unbalanced. One approach is based on the generalized p-value and generalized confidence interval, the other is based on the modified large-sample idea. These two approaches simplify to the ones in Gilder et al. [2007. Confidence intervals on intraclass correlation coefficients in a balanced two-factor random design. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 137, 1199–1212] when the data are balanced. Furthermore, some statistical properties of the generalized confidence intervals are investigated. Finally, some simulation results to compare the performance of the modified large-sample approach with that of the generalized approach are reported. The simulation results indicate that the modified large-sample approach performs better than the generalized approach in the coverage probability and expected length of the confidence interval.  相似文献
