This paper discusses a nonparametric empirical smoothing lack-of-fit test for the functional form of the variance in regression models. The proposed test can be treated as a nontrivial modification of Zheng's nonparametric smoothing test, Koul and Ni's minimum distance test for the mean function in the classic regression models. The paper establishes the asymptotic normality of the proposed test under the null hypothesis. Consistency at some fixed alternatives and asymptotic power under some local alternatives are also discussed. A simulation study is conducted to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed test. Simulation study also shows that the proposed test is more powerful and computationally more efficient than some existing tests.  相似文献

This paper considers the power and size properties of some well known nonparametric linear rank tests for location and scale as well as the Kolmogorov-Smirnov omnibus test and proposed alternatives to it. Independence between some classes of linear rank tests is established facilitating their joint application. Monte Carlo study confirms the asymptotic power properties of the linear rank tests but raises concerns about their application in more general and practically relevant circumstances. It also indicates that the new omnibus tests constitute viable alternatives with superior properties to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test in certain circumstances.  相似文献

We propose a test for equality of two means when data are functions and obtain the asymptotic properties of the test statistic as data dimension increases with the sample size. We also derive the asymptotic power of the test under some local alternatives and show that the test statistic is root-n consistent. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of the test numerically and to compare the proposed test with other existing four popular tests.  相似文献

Seven tests of univariate normality are studied in view of their asymptotic power under local alternatives. The procedures under consideration are either based on the empirical skewness and/or kurtosis, including the popular Jarque-Bera statistic, as well as Cramér-von Mises, Anderson-Darling and Kolmogorov-Smirnov functionals of an empirical process with estimated parameters. The large-sample behavior of these test statistics under contiguous sequences is obtained; this allows for the computation of their associated local power curves and of their asymptotic relative efficiency in the light of a measure proposed by Berg and Quessy (2009). Comparisons are made under four classes of local alternatives, including those used by Thadewald and Büning (2007) in a recent Monte-Carlo power study. These theoretical results are related to empirical ones and many recommendations are formulated.  相似文献

Data Driven Rank Test for Two-Sample Problem   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Traditional linear rank tests are known to possess low power for large spectrum of alternatives. In this paper we introduce a new rank test possessing a considerably larger range of sensitivity than linear rank tests. The new test statistic is a sum of squares of some linear rank statistics while the number of summands is chosen via a data-based selection rule. Simulations show that the new test possesses high and stable power in situations when linear rank tests completely break down, while simultaneously it has almost the same power under alternatives which can be detected by standard linear rank tests. Our approach is illustrated by some practical examples. Theoretical support is given by deriving asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic and proving consistency of the new test under essentially any alternative.  相似文献

In this article, we present some tests for Exponentiality against Gamma alternatives by using normalized waiting times. The test is constructed by using a quadratic form. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed test is derived. The power of the test is computed through Monte Carlo simulation and is compared with Linhart (1965) test, Bain and Engelhardt (1975) test and Keating et al. (1990) test.  相似文献

A framework for the asymptotic analysis of local power properties of tests of stationarity in time series analysis is developed. Appropriate sequences of locally stationary processes are defined that converge at a controlled rate to a limiting stationary process as the length of the time series increases. Different interesting classes of local alternatives to the null hypothesis of stationarity are then considered, and the local power properties of some recently proposed, frequency domain‐based tests for stationarity are investigated. Some simulations illustrate our theoretical findings.  相似文献

The problem of testing uniform association in cross-classifications having ordered categories is considered. Two families of test statistics, both based on divergences between certain functions of the observed data, are studied and compared. Our theoretical study is based on asymptotic properties. For each family, two consistent approximations to the null distribution of the test statistic are studied: the asymptotic null distribution and a bootstrap estimator; all the tests considered are consistent against fixed alternatives; finally, we do a local power study. Surprisingly, both families detect the same local alternatives. The finite sample performance of the tests in these two classes is numerically investigated through some simulation experiments. In the light of the obtained results, some practical recommendations are given.  相似文献

Permutation Tests for Linear Models   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3
Several approximate permutation tests have been proposed for tests of partial regression coefficients in a linear model based on sample partial correlations. This paper begins with an explanation and notation for an exact test. It then compares the distributions of the test statistics under the various permutation methods proposed, and shows that the partial correlations under permutation are asymptotically jointly normal with means 0 and variances 1. The method of Freedman & Lane (1983) is found to have asymptotic correlation 1 with the exact test, and the other methods are found to have smaller correlations with this test. Under local alternatives the critical values of all the approximate permutation tests converge to the same constant, so they all have the same asymptotic power. Simulations demonstrate these theoretical results.  相似文献

Two tests for serial dependence are proposed using a generalized spectral theory in combination with the empirical distribution function. The tests are generalizations of the Cramér-von Mises and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests based on the standardized spectral distribution function. They do not involve the choice of a lag order, and they are consistent against all types of pairwise serial dependence, including those with zero autocorrelation. They also require no moment condition and are distribution free under serial independence. A simulation study compares the finite sample performances of the new tests and some closely related tests. The asymptotic distribution theory works well in finite samples. The generalized Cramér-von Mises test has good power against a variety of dependent alternatives and dominates the generalized Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. A local power analysis explains some important stylized facts on the power of the tests based on the empirical distribution function.  相似文献

The Asymptotic Power Of Jonckheere-Type Tests For Ordered Alternatives   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
For the c -sample location problem with ordered alternatives, the test proposed by Barlow et al . (1972 p. 184) is an appropriate one under the model of normality. For non-normal data, however, there are rank tests which have higher power than the test of Barlow et al ., e.g. the Jonckheere test or so-called Jonckheere-type tests recently introduced and studied by Büning & Kössler (1996). In this paper the asymptotic power of the Jonckheere-type tests is computed by using results of Hájek (1968) which may be considered as extensions of the theorem of Chernoff & Savage (1958). Power studies via Monte Carlo simulation show that the asymptotic power values provide a good approximation to the finite ones even for moderate sample sizes.  相似文献

It is often of interest in survival analysis to test whether the distribution of lifetimes from which the sample under study was derived is the same as a reference distribution. The latter can be specified on the basis of previous studies or on subject matter considerations. In this paper several tests are developed for the above hypothesis, suitable for right-censored observations. The tests are based on modifications of Moses' one-sample limits of some classical two-sample rank tests. The asymptotic distributions of the test statistics are derived, consistency is established for alternatives which are stochastically ordered with respect to the null, and Pitman asymptotic efficiencies are calculated relative to competing tests. Simulated power comparisons are reported. An example is given with data on the survival times of lung cancer patients.  相似文献

An empirical likelihood ratio test is developed for testing for or against inequality constraints on regression parameters in linear regression analysis. The proposed approach imposes no parametric model nor identically distributing assumption on the random errors. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed test statistic under null hypothesis is shown to be of chi-bar-squared type. The asymptotic power under contiguous alternatives is also briefly discussed. Moreover, an adjusted empirical likelihood method is adopted to improve the small sample size behaviour of the proposed test. Several simulation studies are carried out to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed tests. The results reveal that the proposed tests could be valuable for improving inference efficiency. A real-life example is discussed to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

Location-scale invariant Bickel–Rosenblatt goodness-of-fit tests (IBR tests) are considered in this paper to test the hypothesis that f, the common density function of the observed independent d-dimensional random vectors, belongs to a null location-scale family of density functions. The asymptotic behaviour of the test procedures for fixed and non-fixed bandwidths is studied by using an unifying approach. We establish the limiting null distribution of the test statistics, the consistency of the associated tests and we derive its asymptotic power against sequences of local alternatives. These results show the asymptotic superiority, for fixed and local alternatives, of IBR tests with fixed bandwidth over IBR tests with non-fixed bandwidth.  相似文献

A general randomization test for nonparametric hypotheses which is a modification of permutation tests in proposed. The exact level of the test is derived and under mild gegularity conditions, a general result on the consistency of the power function is obtained. Applications to several testing problems are considered. Asymptotic expansions of the power of this test are derived with respect to contiguous alternatives thus test are derived with respect to contiguous alternatives thus enabling us to make deficiency comparisons with permutation tests. The paper concludes with some Monte Carlo simulations verifying the theoretical results derived.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a general goodness of fit test based on Phi-divergence. Consistency of the proposed test is established. We then study some special cases of tests for normal, exponential, uniform and Laplace distributions. Through Monte Carlo simulations, the power values of the proposed tests are compared with some known competing tests under various alternatives. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed procedure.  相似文献

A new class of statistical tests for uniformity based on sample ranges is proposed to detect a uniform density contaminated by a density with one or more high peaks. These kinds of alternatives occur quite frequently, especially in physics. It is shown that the proposed tests arc consistent and have high Pitman asymptotic relative efficiencies. Results of a Monte Carlo power study indicate that they, compared with other tests of uniformity, possess good power properties.A comparative study of various tests is also conducted using real data. An effcient algorithm for computing out test statistic and a table of percentage points are given, providing a practical guide for using the new test.  相似文献

This article discusses the problem of testing the equality of two nonparametric regression functions against two-sided alternatives for uniform design on [0,1] with long memory moving average errors. The standard deviations and the long memory parameters are possibly different for the two errors. The article adapts the partial sum process idea used in the independent observations settings to construct the tests and derives their asymptotic null distributions. The article also shows that these tests are consistent for general alternatives and obtains their limiting distributions under a sequence of local alternatives. Since the limiting null distributions of these tests are unknown, we first conducted a Monte Carlo simulation study to obtain a few selected critical values of the proposed tests. Then based on these critical values, another Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to study the finite sample level and power behavior of these tests at some alternatives. The article also contains a simulation study that assesses the effect of estimating the nonparametric regression function on an estimate of the long memory parameter of the errors. It is observed that the estimate based on direct observations is generally preferable over the one based on the estimated nonparametric residuals.  相似文献

In dependence modelling using conditional copulas, one often imposes the working assumption that the covariate influences the conditional copula solely through the marginal distributions. This so-called (pairwise) simplifying assumption is almost standardly made in vine copula constructions. However, in recent literature evidence was provided that such an assumption might not be justified. Among the first issues is thus to test for its appropriateness. In this paper nonparametric tests for the null hypothesis of the simplifying assumption are proposed, and their asymptotic behaviours, under the null hypothesis and under some local alternatives, are established. The tests are fully nonparametric in nature: not requiring choices of copula families nor knowledge of the marginals. In a simulation study, the finite-sample size and power performances of the tests are investigated, and compared with these of the few available tests. A real data application illustrates the use of the tests.  相似文献

The power properties of a statistic based on the use of exponential scores which may be used for testing whether a series of events occurring in time form an ordinary renewal process against trend alternatives are examined. Small sample power comparisons under a Lehmann trend alternative are made with an alternative nonparametric test based on a rank trend statistic and with the parametric test when the intervals are exponentially distributed. Finally, some asymptotic efficiency results are developed for limiting trend alternatives.  相似文献
