Repeated Measurement Designs, with two treatments, n (experimental) units and p periods are examined, the two treatments are denoted A and B. The model with independent observations within and between treatment sequences is used. Optimal designs are derived for: (i) the difference of direct treatment effects and the difference of residual effects, (ii) the difference of direct treatment effects, and (iii) the difference of residual effects. We prove that for three periods when n is odd the optimal design in the three cases (i), (ii), and (iii) is determined by taking the sequences BAA and ABB in numbers differing by one. If n is even, the optimal design in cases (i), (ii), and (iii) is again the same, by taking the sequences ABB and BAA in equal numbers. In case (i), for n even or odd, in the optimal design there is no correlation between the two estimated parameters. For n even, case (i) was solved by Cheng and Wu in 1980. The above imply that with two treatments in practice are preferable to use three periods instead of two.  相似文献

Repeated Measurement Designs, with two treatments, n (experimental) units and p periods are examined. The model examined is with uncorrelated observations following a continuous distribution with constant variance and the parameters of interest are (i) the difference of direct effects and (ii) the difference of residual effects. In this paper (a) the difference of Universal optimality and Φ-optimality is clarified and (b) the sufficient conditions of Cheng and Wu (1980) are extended to include the case n=2 mod 4, p even, (c) also it is shown that these conditions are also necessary for Φ-optimality for estimating direct as well as residual effects, and (d) a method is proposed to construct Φ-optimal designs and examples are given when n even and p=3, n=0 mod 4 and p=4, n=2 mod 4 and p=4. In the last case the estimated parameters in the optimal design are correlated.  相似文献

Repeated measurement designs are widely used in medicine, pharmacology, animal sciences and psychology. These designs balance out the residual effects. The situations where balanced repeated measurements designs require a large number of the subjects, partially-balanced repeated measurements designs should be used. In this paper some infinite series are developed which provide circular partially-balanced repeated measurement designs for p (periods) even. Experimental designs in which treatments are applied to the experimental units, one at a time, in sequences over a number of periods, have been used in several scientific investigations and are known as repeated measurements designs. Besides direct effects, these designs allow estimation of residual effects of treatments along with adjustment for them. Assuming the existence of first-order residual effects of treatments, Hedayat & Afsarinejad (1975) gave a method of constructing minimal balanced repeated measurements [RM(v,n,p)] design for v treatments using n=2v experimental units for p [=(v+1)/2] periods when v is a prime or prime power. Here, a general method of construction of these designs for all odd v has been given along with an outline for their analysis. In terms of variances of estimated elementary contrasts between treatment effects (direct and residual), these designs are seen to be partially variance balanced based on the circular association scheme.  相似文献

In this paper a new class of designs involving sequences of treatments balanced for first residual effects has been introduced. These designs require only t experimental units for 2t periods, t being the number of treatments to be tested. A unified method of constructing these designs for all values of t (≥2) along with an appropriate method of analysis is presented. This paper presents an algorithm for the construction of optimal or near optimal change-over designs for arbitrary numbers of treatments, periods and units. Previous research on optimality has been either theoretical or has resulted in limited tabulations of small optimal designs. The algorithm consists of a number of steps:first find an optimal direct treatment effects design, ignoring residual effects, and then optimise this class of designs with respect to residual effects. Poor designs are avoided by judicious application of the (M, S)-optimality criterion, and modifications of it, to appropriate matrices. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated by examples.  相似文献

Abstract

Balanced repeated measurements designs (RMDs) balance out the residual effects. Williams Latin square designs work as minimal combinatorial balanced as well as variance balanced for RMDs for p (period sizes) = v (number of treatments). If minimal balanced RMDs cannot be constructed for the situations where p must be less than v then weakly balanced RMDs should be preferred. In this article, some generators are developed to generate circular weakly balanced RMDs in periods of two different sizes. To obtain the proposed designs, some construction procedures are also described for some of the cases where we could not develop generators.  相似文献

The authors propose nonparametric tests for the hypothesis of no direct treatment effects, as well as for the hypothesis of no carryover effects, for balanced crossover designs in which the number of treatments equals the number of periods p, where p ≥ 3. They suppose that the design consists of n replications of balanced crossover designs, each formed by m Latin squares of order p. Their tests are permutation tests which are based on the n vectors of least squares estimators of the parameters of interest obtained from the n replications of the experiment. They obtain both the exact and limiting distribution of the test statistics, and they show that the tests have, asymptotically, the same power as the F‐ratio test.  相似文献

If there is a restriction on the total number of treatments, some experimental units can receive on the total length of time while some experimental units can remain in the trial, then repeated measurements designs with unequal period sizes should be used. Magda (1980) introduced a model for repeated measurements designs with a circular structure of the residual effects. He proved the universal optimality of circular balanced uniform designs over a subclass of the possible designs. In experiments in which the response to a treatment can be affected by other treatments, the interference model with neighbor effects is usually used. It is known that circular neighbor balanced designs (CNBDs) are universally optimal under such a model if the neighbor effects are fixed (Druilhet, 1999) or random (4 and 7). However, such designs cannot exist for every combination of design parameters. In the class of block designs with the same number of treatments as experimental units per block, a CNBD cannot exist if the number of blocks, b  , is equal to p(t−1)±1p(t1)±1, where p is a positive integer and t is the number of treatments. Filipiak et al. (2008) gave the structure of the left-neighboring matrix of E-optimal complete block designs with p  =1 under the model with fixed neighbor effects. The purpose of this paper is to generalize E-optimality results for designs with p∈NpN assuming random neighbor effects.  相似文献

Consider change-over designs for the comparison of v treatments. Each application has a direct effect and up to n?1 residual and/or interaction effects. An array is defined to be a serial array if: (1) all treatments occur equally often in each row and (2) reading down columns, all possible permutations of n consecutive treatments occur equally often in the array. A method of constructing (λv+n?1) Xvn ?1, λ integral, serial arrays is given. Use of these arrays as change-over designs is discussed with emphasis on the inclusion of interaction effects.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider experimental situations in which a regular fractional factorial design is to be used to study the effects of m two-level factors using n=2mk experimental units arranged in 2p blocks of size 2mkp. In such situations, two-factor interactions are often confounded with blocks and complete information is lost on these two-factor interactions. Here we consider the use of the foldover technique in conjunction with combining designs having different blocking schemes to produce alternative partially confounded blocked fractional factorial designs that have more estimable two-factor interactions or a higher estimation capacity or both than their traditional counterparts.  相似文献

A series of weakly resolvable search designs for the pn factorial experiment is given for which the mean and all main effects are estimable in the presence of any number of two-factor interactions and for which any combination of three or fewer pairs of factors that interact may be detected. The designs have N = p(p–1)n+p runs except in one case where additional runs are required for detection and one case where (p?1)2 additional runs are needed to estimate all (p–1)2 degrees of freedom for each pair of detected interactions. Let {Xt} be the stationary AR(p) process satisfying the difference equation Xt=β1Xt−1 + … + βpXtp+εt, where {εt} is a sequence of iid random variables with mean zero and finite variance. Motivated by a goodness of fit test on the true errors {εt}, we are led to study the asymptotic behavior of the quantile process based on residuals (the residual quantile process). Particularly, we concentrate on the deviations between the residual quantile process and the empirical process based on the true errors. In this asymptotic study, it is shown that the deviations converge to zero in probability uniformly over certain intervals with specific order as sample size increases. Here, these intervals are allowed to vary with the sample size n and converge to the unit interval as n goes to infinity. Then, based on our result and the strong approximation result of Csörgö and Révész (1978), we propose a goodness of fit test statistic of which limiting distribution is the same as of a functional form of a standard Brownian bridge.  相似文献

Competition or interference occurs when the responses to treatments in experimental units are affected by the treatments in neighbouring units. This may contribute to variability in experimental results and lead to substantial losses in efficiency. The study of a competing situation needs designs in which the competing units appear in a predetermined pattern. This paper deals with optimality aspects of circular block designs for studying the competition among treatments applied to neighbouring experimental units. The model considered is a four-way classified model consisting of direct effect of the treatment applied to a particular plot, the effect of those treatments applied to the immediate left and right neighbouring units and the block effect. Conditions have been obtained for the block design to be universally optimal for estimating direct and neighbour effects. Some classes of balanced and strongly balanced complete block designs have been identified to be universally optimal for the estimation of direct, left and right neighbour effects and a list of universally optimal designs for v<20 and r<100 has been prepared.  相似文献
