In a recent number of the Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference, a short communication by Withers and Nadarajah (2011) on the unbiased estimation of the moments and cumulants for linear regression models was published. However, some of the results presented in this paper, as well as those closely related, were partially obtained in other works, which were not referenced or were referenced in other contexts. In addition, the consistency of the derived estimates was not studied. The aim of these short comments is to briefly present these results, as well as some omitted works, in order to give larger representation of the state of art in this field.  相似文献

The authors propose a new class of robust estimators for the parameters of a regression model in which the distribution of the error terms belongs to a class of exponential families including the log‐gamma distribution. These estimates, which are a natural extension of the MM‐estimates for ordinary regression, may combine simultaneously high asymptotic efficiency and a high breakdown point. The authors prove the consistency and derive the asymptotic normal distribution of these estimates. A Monte Carlo study allows them to assess the efficiency and robustness of these estimates for finite samples.  相似文献

In this paper, the regression model with a nonnegativity constraint on the dependent variable is considered. Under weak conditions, L 1 estimates of the regression coefficients are shown to be consistent.  相似文献

It seems difficult to find a formula in the literature that relates moments to cumulants (and vice versa) and is useful in computational work rather than in an algebraic approach. Hence I present four very simple recursive formulas that translate moments to cumulants and vice versa in the univariate and multivariate situations.  相似文献

In this note, a hypothesis test based on relevant statistical differences is proposed for multivariate linear regression models whose design matrix rank does not equal the number of regression variables. A statistical example is also provided to illustrate the proposed hypothesis test.  相似文献

In this letter explicit expressions are derived for the cumulants and the vector-valued odd moments of the multivariate linearly skewed elliptical family of distributions. The general calculations of such moments are described by multivariate integrals which complicate the calculations. We show how such multivariate computations can be projected into a univariate framework, which extremely simplifies the computations.  相似文献

We obtain an estimator of the r th central moment of a distribution, which is unbiased for all distributions for which the first r moments exist. We do this by finding the kernel which allows the r th central moment to be written as a regular statistical functional. The U-statistic associated with this kernel is the unique symmetric unbiased estimator of the r th central moment, and, for each distribution, it has minimum variance among all estimators which are unbiased for all these distributions.  相似文献

Ordinary least-square (OLS) estimators for a linear model are very sensitive to unusual values in the design space or outliers among y values. Even one single atypical value may have a large effect on the parameter estimates. This article aims to review and describe some available and popular robust techniques, including some recent developed ones, and compare them in terms of breakdown point and efficiency. In addition, we also use a simulation study and a real data application to compare the performance of existing robust methods under different scenarios.  相似文献

Bayes estimates are derived in multivariate linear models with unknown distribution. The prior distribution is defined using a Dirichlet prior for the unknown error distribution and a normal-Wishart distribution for the parameters. The posterior distribution is determined and explicit expressions are given in the special cases of location-scale and two-sample models. The calculation of self-informative limits of Bayes estimates yields standard estimates.  相似文献

The construction of confidence sets for the parameters of a flexible simple linear regression model for interval-valued random sets is addressed. For that purpose, the asymptotic distribution of the least-squares estimators is analyzed. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the performance of those confidence sets. In particular, the empirical coverages are examined for various interval linear models. The applicability of the procedure is illustrated by means of a real-life case study.  相似文献

The least squares estimator is usually applied when estimating the parameters in linear regression models. As this estimator is sensitive to departures from normality in the residual distribution, several alternatives have been proposed. The Lp norm estimators is one class of such alternatives. It has been proposed that the kurtosis of the residual distribution be taken into account when a choice of estimator in the Lp norm class is made (i.e. the choice of p). In this paper, the asymtotic variance of the estimators is used as the criterion in the choice of p. It is shown that when this criterion is applied, other characteristics of the residual distribution than the kurtosis (namely moments of order p-2 and 2p-2) are important.  相似文献

Inference concerning the structure of stationary stochastic processes can be investigated by looking at properties of various cumulant spectral densities of order two and higher. However, except for cases when cumulants and product moments are identical, estimation of higher-order cumulant spectral densities has been restricted by the dependence of higher-order cumulants on lower-order product moments. By first estimating product moments and then using an identity between product moments and cumulants, asymptotically unbiased and consistent estimates of cumulants are obtained. This in turn leads to asymptotically unbiased and consistent estimators of higher-order cumulant spectral densities. In addition, asymptotic normality of product-moment estimators is exhibited under weak dependence.  相似文献

A simultaneous confidence band provides useful information on the plausible range of an unknown regression model. For simple linear regression models, the most frequently quoted bands in the statistical literature include the hyperbolic band and the three-segment bands. One interesting question is whether one can construct confidence bands better than the hyperbolic and three-segment bands. The optimality criteria for confidence bands include the average width criterion considered by Gafarian (1964) and Naiman (1984) among others, and the minimum area confidence set (MACS) criterion of Liu and Hayter (2007). In this paper, two families of exact 1−α1α confidence bands, the inner-hyperbolic bands and the outer-hyperbolic bands, which include the hyperbolic and three-segment bands as special cases, are introduced in simple linear regression. Under the MACS criterion, the best confidence band within each family is found by numerical search and compared with the hyperbolic band, the best three-segment band and with each other. The methodologies are illustrated with a numerical example and the Matlab programs used are available upon request.  相似文献

Abstract

Minimum distance estimation on the linear regression model with independent errors is known to yield an efficient and robust estimator. We extend the method to the model with strong mixing errors and obtain an estimator of the vector of the regression parameters. The goal of this article is to demonstrate the proposed estimator still retains efficiency and robustness. To that end, this article investigates asymptotic distributional properties of the proposed estimator and compares it with other estimators. The efficiency and the robustness of the proposed estimator are empirically shown, and its superiority over the other estimators is established.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a family of robust estimates for isotonic regression: isotonic M-estimators. We show that their asymptotic distribution is, up to an scalar factor, the same as that of Brunk's classical isotonic estimator. We also derive the influence function and the breakdown point of these estimates. Finally we perform a Monte Carlo study that shows that the proposed family includes estimators that are simultaneously highly efficient under Gaussian errors and highly robust when the error distribution has heavy tails.  相似文献

In this paper, we mainly aim to introduce the notion of improved Liu estimator (ILE) in the linear regression model y=Xβ+e. The selection of the biasing parameters is investigated under the PRESS criterion and the optimal selection is successfully derived. We make a simulation study to show the performance of ILE compared to the ordinary least squares estimator and the Liu estimator. Finally, the main results are applied to the Hald data.  相似文献

Random coefficients may result in heteroscedasticity of observations. For particular situations, where only one observation is available per individual, we derive optimal designs based on the geometry of the design locus.  相似文献

Necessary and sufficient conditions are developed for the simple least squares estimator to coincide with the best linear unbiased predictor. The conditions obtained are valid for a general linear model and are generalizations of the condition given by Watson (1972). Also, as a preliminary result, a new representation of the best linear unbiased predictor is established.  相似文献
