In this paper, we propose an asymptotic approximation for the expected probabilities of misclassification (EPMC) in the linear discriminant function on the basis of k-step monotone missing training data for general k. We derive certain relations of the statistics in order to obtain the approximation. Finally, we perform Monte Carlo simulation to evaluate the accuracy of our result and to compare it with existing approximations.  相似文献

In this study, testing the equality of mean vectors in a one-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) is considered when each dataset has a monotone pattern of missing observations. The likelihood ratio test (LRT) statistic in a one-way MANOVA with monotone missing data is given. Furthermore, the modified test (MT) statistic based on likelihood ratio (LR) and the modified LRT (MLRT) statistic with monotone missing data are proposed using the decomposition of the LR and an asymptotic expansion for each decomposed LR. The accuracy of the approximation for the Chi-square distribution is investigated using a Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the methods.  相似文献

This article gives asymptotic expansions for marginal posterior distributions with asymptotic modes of order n ?2, and shows their validity. In addition, by using the asymptotic expansion, an approximate central posterior credible interval is derived.  相似文献

An asymptotic expansion of the null distribution of the chi-square statistic based on the asymptotically distribution-free theory for general covariance structures is derived under non-normality. The added higher-order term in the approximate density is given by a weighted sum of those of the chi-square distributed variables with different degrees of freedom. A formula for the corresponding Bartlett correction is also shown without using the above asymptotic expansion. Under a fixed alternative hypothesis, the Edgeworth expansion of the distribution of the standardized chi-square statistic is given up to order O(1/n). From the intermediate results of the asymptotic expansions for the chi-square statistics, asymptotic expansions of the joint distributions of the parameter estimators both under the null and fixed alternative hypotheses are derived up to order O(1/n).  相似文献

In this paper we obtain asymptotic expansions up to order n−1/2 for the nonnull distribution functions of the likelihood ratio, Wald, score and gradient test statistics in exponential family nonlinear models (Cordeiro and Paula, 1989), under a sequence of Pitman alternatives. The asymptotic distributions of all four statistics are obtained for testing a subset of regression parameters and for testing the dispersion parameter, thus generalising the results given in Cordeiro et al. (1994) and Ferrari et al. (1997). We also present Monte Carlo simulations in order to compare the finite-sample performance of these tests.  相似文献

This paper develops an alternative and complement estimation procedure for functional coefficient partially linear regression (FCPLR) model based on series method. We derive the convergence rates and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator. We examine its finite sample performance and compare it with the two-step local linear estimator via a small scale Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

Inference for a scalar interest parameter in the presence of nuisance parameters is considered in terms of the conditional maximum-likelihood estimator developed by Cox and Reid (1987). Parameter orthogonality is assumed throughout. The estimator is analyzed by means of stochastic asymptotic expansions in three cases: a scalar nuisance parameter, m nuisance parameters from m independent samples, and a vector nuisance parameter. In each case, the expansion for the conditional maximum-likelihood estimator is compared with that for the usual maximum-likelihood estimator. The means and variances are also compared. In each of the cases, the bias of the conditional maximum-likelihood estimator is unaffected by the nuisance parameter to first order. This is not so for the maximum-likelihood estimator. The assumption of parameter orthogonality is crucial in attaining this result. Regardless of parametrization, the difference in the two estimators is first-order and is deterministic to this order.  相似文献

Bernstein polynomial estimators have been used as smooth estimators for density functions and distribution functions. The idea of using them for copula estimation has been given in Sancetta and Satchell (2004). In the present paper we study the asymptotic properties of this estimator: almost sure consistency rates and asymptotic normality. We also obtain explicit expressions for the asymptotic bias and asymptotic variance and show the improvement of the asymptotic mean squared error compared to that of the classical empirical copula estimator. A small simulation study illustrates this superior behavior in small samples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In Bayesian theory, calculating a posterior probability distribution is highly important but typically difficult. Therefore, some methods have been proposed to deal with such problem, among which, the most popular one is the asymptotic expansions of posterior distributions. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach, named a random weighting method, for scaled posterior distributions, and give an ideal convergence rate, o(n( ? 1/2)), which serves as the theoretical guarantee for methods of numerical simulations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Asymptotic distributions of the standardized estimators of the squared and non squared multiple correlation coefficients under nonnormality were obtained using Edgeworth expansion up to O(1/n). Conditions for the normal-theory asymptotic biases and variances to hold under nonnormality were derived with respect to the parameter values and the weighted sum of the cumulants of associated variables. The condition for the cumulants indicates a compensatory effect to yield the robust normal-theory lower-order cumulants. Simulations were performed to see the usefulness of the formulas of the asymptotic expansions using the model with the asymptotic robustness under nonnormality, which showed that the approximations by Edgeworth expansions were satisfactory.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the class of censored exponential regression models which is very useful for modeling lifetime data. Under a sequence of Pitman alternatives, the asymptotic expansions up to order n? 1/2 of the non null distribution functions of the likelihood ratio, Wald, Rao score, and gradient statistics are derive in this class of models. The non null asymptotic distribution functions of these statistics are obtained for testing a composite null hypothesis in the presence of nuisance parameters. The power of all four tests, which are equivalent to first order, are compared based on these non null asymptotic expansions. Furthermore, in order to compare the finite-sample performance of these tests in this class of models, we consider Monte Carlo simulations. We also present an empirical application for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In covariance structure analysis, the Studentized pivotal statistic of a parameter estimator is often used since the statistic is asymptotically normally distributed with mean zero and unit variance. For more accurate asymptotic distribution, the first and third asymptotic cumulants can be used to have the single-term Edgeworth, Cornish-Fisher, and Hall type asymptotic expansions. In this paper, the higher order asymptotic variance and the fourth asymptotic cumulant of the statistic are obtained under nonnormality when the partial derivatives of a parameter estimator with respect to sample variances and covariances up to the third order and the moments of the associated observed variables up to the eighth order are available. The result can be used to have the two-term Edgeworth expansion. Simulations are performed to see the accuracy of the asymptotic results in finite samples.  相似文献

Asymptotic expansions of the joint distributions of functions of sample means and central moments up to an arbitrary order in multiple populations are given by Edgeworth expansions. The asymptotic distributions of the parameter estimators in moment structures under null/fixed alternative hypotheses and the chi-square statistics based on asymptotically distribution-free theory under fixed alternatives are given as applications of the above results. Asymptotic expansions of the null distributions of the chi-square statistics are also derived. For parameter estimators with the chi-square statistic, the linearized estimators are dealt with as well as fully iterated estimators.  相似文献

The partial attributable risk (PAR) has been introduced as a tool for partitioning the responsibility for causing an adverse event between various risk factors. It has arisen from epidemiology, but it is also a valid general risk allocation concept, which can, for example, be applied to data from customer satisfaction surveys. So far, a variance formula for the PAR has been missing so that the confidence intervals were not directly available. This paper provides the asymptotic normal distribution for the PAR determined from a cross-sectional study.  相似文献

Abstract

In a 2-step monotone missing dataset drawn from a multivariate normal population, T2-type test statistic (similar to Hotelling’s T2 test statistic) and likelihood ratio (LR) are often used for the test for a mean vector. In complete data, Hotelling’s T2 test and LR test are equivalent, however T2-type test and LR test are not equivalent in the 2-step monotone missing dataset. Then we interest which statistic is reasonable with relation to power. In this paper, we derive asymptotic power function of both statistics under a local alternative and obtain an explicit form for difference in asymptotic power function. Furthermore, under several parameter settings, we compare LR and T2-type test numerically by using difference in empirical power and in asymptotic power function. Summarizing obtained results, we recommend applying LR test for testing a mean vector.  相似文献

Harley (1954) gave asymptotic expansions for the distributio function and for percentiles of the distribution of the bivariate normal sample correlation coefficient. To the stated order of approximation these expansions were incomplete in that contributions from some higher cumulants were not taken into account. In this article the completed expansions are given together with an asymptotic expansion yielding approximate confidence limits for the population correlation coefficient. Numerical comparisons indicate that asymptotic expansions are superior to other suggested approximate methods  相似文献

This article proposes an asymptotic expansion for the Studentized linear discriminant function using two-step monotone missing samples under multivariate normality. The asymptotic expansions related to discriminant function have been obtained for complete data under multivariate normality. The result derived by Anderson (1973 Anderson , T. W. ( 1973 ). An asymptotic expansion of the distribution of the Studentized classification statistic W . The Annals of Statistics 1 : 964972 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) plays an important role in deciding the cut-off point that controls the probabilities of misclassification. This article provides an extension of the result derived by Anderson (1973 Anderson , T. W. ( 1973 ). An asymptotic expansion of the distribution of the Studentized classification statistic W . The Annals of Statistics 1 : 964972 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) in the case of two-step monotone missing samples under multivariate normality. Finally, numerical evaluations by Monte Carlo simulations were also presented.  相似文献

Linear increments (LI) are used to analyse repeated outcome data with missing values. Previously, two LI methods have been proposed, one allowing non‐monotone missingness but not independent measurement error and one allowing independent measurement error but only monotone missingness. In both, it was suggested that the expected increment could depend on current outcome. We show that LI can allow non‐monotone missingness and either independent measurement error of unknown variance or dependence of expected increment on current outcome but not both. A popular alternative to LI is a multivariate normal model ignoring the missingness pattern. This gives consistent estimation when data are normally distributed and missing at random (MAR). We clarify the relation between MAR and the assumptions of LI and show that for continuous outcomes multivariate normal estimators are also consistent under (non‐MAR and non‐normal) assumptions not much stronger than those of LI. Moreover, when missingness is non‐monotone, they are typically more efficient.  相似文献

This paper gives matrix formilae for the O(n-1 ) cerrecti0n applicable to asymptotically efficient conditional moment tests. These formulae only require expectations of functions involving, at most, second order derivatives of the log-likelihood; unlike those previously providcd by Ferrari and Corddro(1994). The correction is used to assess the reliability of first order asymptotic theory for arbitrary residual-based diagnostics in a class of accelerated failure time models: this correction is always parameter free, depending only on the number of included covariates in the regression design. For all but one of the tests considered, first order theory is found to be extremely unreliable, even in quite large samples, although this may not be widely appreciated by applied workers.  相似文献
