The situation of multi-choice aspiration levels (MCAL) may exist in many decision/management problems. However, the problem cannot be solved by current goal programming (GP) techniques. In order to improve the utility of GP and solve the MCAL problem, this paper proposes a new idea for programming the MCAL problem. The proposed method allows decision-makers (DMs) to set multiple aspiration levels for their problems in which “the more/higher is better” and “the less/lower is better” in the aspiration levels are addressed. In addition, illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the correctness of the proposed model.  相似文献

Goal setting has been widely used to enhance work motivation. This paper discusses the importance of goal acceptance in moderating goal setting effects and shows how workers' acceptance of goals can be influenced at various stages of the progression from goal setting to goal attainment. A heuristic organization of goal acceptance strategies is proposed as a basis for extending the theoretical framework underlying goal setting research.  相似文献

The intent of this study is to distinguish areas of difference in the perception of organizational goals among managers, hourly workers, and graduate business students. The managers were chosen to represent the present point of view of management, while the hourly workers were selected to be indicative of labor's viewpoint toward the goal selection of organizations. Students were chosen because they represent the potential transfusion into management. The tool used to solicit these responses was a questionnaire composed of twenty questions, with each question divided into two parts. The first part examined the way the individual perceived the achievement level of the organization (‘is’), and the other half represented the level that the individual aspired for the organization to achieve in the future (‘should be’). These two parts were quantified using a Likert scale ranging from 1 (of no importance) to 5 (of extremely high importance). The results indicate the similarities and differences between each of these three groups in terms of present perceptions and future expectations of these goals.  相似文献

Financial planners within industrial organizations are often given the impossible task of formulating a multi-year financial plan which is severely over-constrained. As the planner attempts to meet one objective another variable (or ratio of variables) becomes unacceptable and he is faced with the familiar ‘balloon squeezing’ effect. The problem is one of multiple conflicting objectives (goals) hence lends itself very well to a goal programming method of solution. This approach provides a powerful ‘what-if’ device for the financial planner and allows him to arrive at a satisfactory solution by examining the various trade-offs among the conflicting goals. To be an effective and usable tool, the individual goals are not assigned a priority coefficient as is typical of most goal programming applications. Rather, the planner can reflect his priorities in the manner in which he performs the subsequent what-if analyses. Also, a more flexible penalty function is introduced allowing the planner to assign a more realistic set of penalities which vary in severity over a specified range. Methods of implementing this concept are discussed which overcome the problems created by the immense storage requirements and the necessity of assigning the various penalties.  相似文献

This article starts reviewing the satisficing philosophy of Goal Programming (GP) and interpreting their solutions from the point of view of the utility theory. This interpretation leads to a very general optimisation structure called Extended Lexicographic Goal Programming (ELGP). It is then demonstrated that there are a significant number of Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approaches that, from a logical point of view, can be reduced to the ELGP structure. The paper ends assessing the theoretical and practical advantages of the proposed unified approach.  相似文献

The purpose of the present work is to build a suitable system dynamics model for goal dynamics in organizations, as proposed by Barlas and Yasarcan (2008). The proposed model does not bear any ambition of being exhaustive: the main objective of this paper is to propose a model of goal dynamics in which Goal Setting, Management by Objectives and Training are viewed as human resource practices able to enhance workers’ goal commitment, and therefore, improve organizational performance. In the first part of this paper, an analysis of the Goal Setting Theory and the role of goal setting practices, in bettering worker's performance, are stressed. In the second part, a case-study, the causal loop and a quantitative model of goal dynamics in organizations are described. In the third part, behaviour reproduction testing, optimization analysis for parameter estimation and scenario analysis are presented. Limitations of the present research and conclusions are finally discussed.  相似文献

The conflict between economic optimization and environmental protection has received wide attention in recent research programs for waste management system planning. This has also resulted in a set of new waste management goals in reverse logistics system planning. The purpose of this analysis is to formulate a mixed integer goal programming (MIGP) model to assist in proper management of the paper recycling logistics system. The model studies the inter-relationship between multiple objectives (with changing priorities) of a recycled paper distribution network. The objectives considered are reduction in reverse logistics cost; product quality improvement through increased segregation at the source; and environmental benefits through increased wastepaper recovery. The proposed model also assists in determining the facility location, route and flow of different varieties of recyclable wastepaper in the multi-item, multi-echelon and multi-facility decision making framework. The use of the model has been illustrated through a problem of paper recycling in India.  相似文献

This paper presents an interactive fuzzy goal programming approach to determine the preferred compromise solution for the multi-objective transportation problem. The proposed approach considers the imprecise nature of the input data by implementing the minimum operator and also assumes that each objective function has a fuzzy goal. The approach focuses on minimizing the worst upper bound to obtain an efficient solution which is close to the best lower bound of each objective function. The solution procedure controls the search direction via updating both the membership values and the aspiration levels. An important characteristic of the approach is that the decision maker's role is concentrated only in evaluating the efficient solution to limit the influences of his/her incomplete knowledge about the problem domain. In addition, the proposed approach can be applied to solve other multi-objective decision making problems. The performance of this solution approach is evaluated by comparing its results with that of the two existing methods in the literature.  相似文献

In this article, we examine the attempt of two hospitals to implement management by objectives (MBO) as a means of improving organizational planning and control. Our conclusion is that, as a goal-directed form of management technology, MBO may lead to dysfunctional decision making at the institutional level within organizations, especially those facing complex, dynamic environments. However, if viewed as a philosophy of management administered at the sub-unit level, MBO may serve as a catalytic agent for encouraging decentralized decision making and performance evaluation.  相似文献

The behavior and performance of an organization are intimately tied to the mode and effectiveness of its information processing function. While there is a rapidly expanding level of research concerned with the design, development, and implementation of management information systems (MIS), relatively few approaches to the evaluation and improvement of these systems have been suggested. The current paper develops a multiple goal methodology aimed at filling this gap by evaluating and, if necessary, subsequently modifying any given set of MIS design variables considered capable of enhancing a series of operational and, perhaps, conflicting goals. The methodology is based on a series of significant findings from the MIS design literature. In particular, the procedure incorporates the tripartite of decision type/decision-maker/MIS design into the evaluation process. The methodology is user-based, being flexible with respect to the definition of performance objectives, evaluation measures, design variables, and correction strategies. A brief example applies the methodology to the evaluation of an MIS within a health services organization.  相似文献
