This paper is mainly concerned with modelling data from degradation sample paths over time. It uses a general growth curve model with Box‐Cox transformation, random effects and ARMA(p, q) dependence to analyse a set of such data. A maximum likelihood estimation procedure for the proposed model is derived and future values are predicted, based on the best linear unbiased prediction. The paper compares the proposed model with a nonlinear degradation model from a prediction point of view. Forecasts of failure times with various data lengths in the sample are also compared.  相似文献

The multivariate t linear mixed model (MtLMM) has been recently proposed as a robust tool for analysing multivariate longitudinal data with atypical observations. Missing outcomes frequently occur in longitudinal research even in well controlled situations. As a powerful alternative to the traditional expectation maximization based algorithm employing single imputation, we consider a Bayesian analysis of the MtLMM to account for the uncertainties of model parameters and missing outcomes through multiple imputation. An inverse Bayes formulas sampler coupled with Metropolis-within-Gibbs scheme is used to effectively draw the posterior distributions of latent data and model parameters. The techniques for multiple imputation of missing values, estimation of random effects, prediction of future responses, and diagnostics of potential outliers are investigated as well. The proposed methodology is illustrated through a simulation study and an application to AIDS/HIV data.  相似文献

Functional data analysis has become an important area of research because of its ability of handling high‐dimensional and complex data structures. However, the development is limited in the context of linear mixed effect models and, in particular, for small area estimation. The linear mixed effect models are the backbone of small area estimation. In this article, we consider area‐level data and fit a varying coefficient linear mixed effect model where the varying coefficients are semiparametrically modelled via B‐splines. We propose a method of estimating the fixed effect parameters and consider prediction of random effects that can be implemented using a standard software. For measuring prediction uncertainties, we derive an analytical expression for the mean squared errors and propose a method of estimating the mean squared errors. The procedure is illustrated via a real data example, and operating characteristics of the method are judged using finite sample simulation studies.  相似文献

Determination of the best subset is an important step in vector autoregressive (VAR) modeling. Traditional methods either conduct subset selection and parameter estimation separately or compute expensively. In this article, we propose a VAR model selection procedure using adaptive Lasso, for it is computational efficient and can select subset and estimate parameters simultaneously. By proper choice of tuning parameters, we can choose the correct subset and obtain the asymptotic normality of the non zero parameters. Simulation studies and real data analysis show that adaptive Lasso performs better than existing methods in VAR model fitting and prediction.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the problem of predicting times to the latent failures of units censored in multiple stages in a progressively Type-II censored competing risks model. It is assumed that the lifetime distribution of the latent failure times are independent and exponential-distributed with the different scale parameters. Several classical point predictors such as the maximum likelihood predictor, the best unbiased predictor, the best linear unbiased predictor, the median unbiased predictor and the conditional median predictor are obtained. The Bayesian point predictors are derived under squared error loss criterion. Moreover, the point estimators of the unknown parameters are obtained using the observed data and different point predictors of the latent failure times. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulations are carried out to compare the performances of the different methods of prediction and estimation and one real data is used to illustrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

This article mainly considers interval estimation of the scale and shape parameters of the generalized exponential (GE) distribution. We adopt the generalized fiducial method to construct a kind of new confidence intervals for the parameters of interest and compare them with the frequentist and Bayesian methods. In addition, we give the comparison of the point estimation based on the frequentist, generalized fiducial and Bayesian methods. Simulation results show that a new procedure based on generalized fiducial inference is more applicable than the non-fiducial methods for the point and interval estimation of the GE distribution. Finally, two lifetime data sets are used to illustrate the application of our new procedure.  相似文献

The Modulated Power Law process has been recently proposed as a suitable model for describing the failure pattern of repairable systems when both renewal-type behaviour and time trend are present. Unfortunately, the maximum likelihood method provides neither accurate confidence intervals on the model parameters for small or moderate sample sizes nor predictive intervals on future observations.

This paper proposes a Bayes approach, based on both non-informative and vague prior, as an alternative to the classical method. Point and interval estimation of the parameters, as well as point and interval prediction of future failure times, are given. Monte Carlo simulation studies show that the Bayes estimation and prediction possess good statistical properties in a frequentist context and, thus, are a valid alternative to the maximum likelihood approach.

Two new methods for improving prediction regions in the context of vector autoregressive (VAR) models are proposed. These methods, which are based on the bootstrap technique, take into account the uncertainty associated with the estimation of the model order and parameters. In particular, by exploiting an independence property of the prediction error, we will introduce a bootstrap procedure that allows for better estimates of the forecasting distribution, in the sense that the variability of its quantile estimators is substantially reduced, without requiring additional bootstrap replications. The proposed methods have a good performance even if the disturbances distribution is not Gaussian. An application to a real data set is presented.  相似文献

Graphs and networks are common ways of depicting information. In biology, many different biological processes are represented by graphs, such as regulatory networks, metabolic pathways and protein-protein interaction networks. This kind of a priori use of graphs is a useful supplement to the standard numerical data such as microarray gene expression data. In this paper, we consider the problem of regression analysis and variable selection when the covariates are linked on a graph. We study a graph-constrained regularization procedure and its theoretical properties for regression analysis to take into account the neighborhood information of the variables measured on a graph, where a smoothness penalty on the coefficients is defined as a quadratic form of the Laplacian matrix associated with the graph. We establish estimation and model selection consistency results and provide estimation bounds for both fixed and diverging numbers of parameters in regression models. We demonstrate by simulations and a real dataset that the proposed procedure can lead to better variable selection and prediction than existing methods that ignore the graph information associated with the covariates.  相似文献

This paper investigates the problem of prediction of stellar parameters, based on the star's electromagnetic spectrum. The knowledge of these parameters permits to infer on the evolutionary state of the star. From a statistical point of view, the spectra of different stars can be represented as functional data. Therefore, a two-step procedure decomposing the spectra in a functional basis combined with a regression method of prediction is proposed. We also use a bootstrap methodology to build prediction intervals for the stellar parameters. A practical application is also provided to illustrate the numerical performance of our approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider some problems of point estimation and point prediction when the competing risks data from a class of exponential distribution are progressive type-I interval censored. The maximum likelihood estimation and mid-point approximation method are proposed for the estimations of parameters. Also several point predictors of censored units such as the maximum likelihood predictor, the best unbiased predictor and the conditional median predictor are obtained. The methods discussed here are applied when the lifetime distributions of the latent failure times are independent and Weibull-distributed. Finally a simulation study is given by using Monte-Carlo simulations to compare the performances of the different methods and one data analysis has been presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The loss rate of coins in the Israeli pound (IL) series issued in Israel in 1960–1979 is estimated, and the connection between it and the characteristics of the coins is examined. A lifetime model with time-dependent hazard rate and an estimation procedure for the model parameters are presented. The estimates are then used to forecast the number of coins surviving in circulation and the median lifetime of different denominations. The data are random samples drawn from the coins in circulation at a point in time, the sampled coins being sorted by date of issue.  相似文献

Spatial linear models have been applied in numerous fields such as agriculture, geoscience and environmental sciences, among many others. Spatial dependence structure modelling, using a geostatistical approach, is an indispensable tool to estimate the parameters that define this structure. However, this estimation may be greatly affected by the presence of atypical observations in the sampled data. The purpose of this paper is to use diagnostic techniques to assess the sensitivity of the maximum-likelihood estimators, covariance functions and linear predictor to small perturbations in the data and/or the spatial linear model assumptions. The methodology is illustrated with two real data sets. The results allowed us to conclude that the presence of atypical values in the sample data have a strong influence on thematic maps, changing the spatial dependence structure.  相似文献

Estimation of the Pareto tail index from extreme order statistics is an important problem in many settings. The upper tail of the distribution, where data are sparse, is typically fitted with a model, such as the Pareto model, from which quantities such as probabilities associated with extreme events are deduced. The success of this procedure relies heavily not only on the choice of the estimator for the Pareto tail index but also on the procedure used to determine the number k of extreme order statistics that are used for the estimation. The authors develop a robust prediction error criterion for choosing k and estimating the Pareto index. A Monte Carlo study shows the good performance of the new estimator and the analysis of real data sets illustrates that a robust procedure for selection, and not just for estimation, is needed.  相似文献

Capacitance is a critical performance characteristic of high-voltage-pulse capacitor which is used to store and discharge electrical energy rapidly. The capacitors usually are stored for a long period of time before put into use. Experimental result and engineering experience indicate that the capacitance increases with storage time and will eventually exceed the failure threshold, which means that the capacitor may fail during storage. This is a typical mode of degradation failure for long storage products. Further, the capacitance degradation path can be extrapolated in several stages based on the shifting characteristics. That is, the capacitance increases slowly or fluctuates in the initial storage stage that lasts about three months. Then it increases sharply in the middle stage which lasts about four months. After the two stages, the capacitor enters into the third stage in which capacitance increases constantly. This degradation phenomenon motivates us to study the storage life prediction method based on multi-phase degradation path model. The storage performance degradation mechanism of high-voltage-pulse capacitor was investigated, which provides the physical basis for multi-phase Wiener degradation model. Identification procedure for the transition points in the degradation path was proposed using maximum likelihood principle (MLP). The result of Kruskal-Wallis test which is the method to test whether two populations are consistent or not in statistics showed that the transition points are statistically effective. Other parameters in the multi-phase degradation model are estimated with maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) after the transition points have been specified. The multi-phase Inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution for storage life was deduced for the capacitor, and the point and interval estimation procedure for reliable storage life are constructed with bootstrap method. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed multi-phase degradation model is compared with storage life prediction under single-phase condition.  相似文献

Panel count data arise in many fields and a number of estimation procedures have been developed along with two procedures for variable selection. In this paper, we discuss model selection and parameter estimation together. For the former, a focused information criterion (FIC) is presented and for the latter, a frequentist model average (FMA) estimation procedure is developed. A main advantage, also the difference from the existing model selection methods, of the FIC is that it emphasizes the accuracy of the estimation of the parameters of interest, rather than all parameters. Further efficiency gain can be achieved by the FMA estimation procedure as unlike existing methods, it takes into account the variability in the stage of model selection. Asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established, and a simulation study conducted suggests that the proposed methods work well for practical situations. 传统信用评分方法主要利用统计分类方法,只能预测借款人是否会发生违约,但不能预测违约发生的时点。治愈率模型是二分类和生存分析的混合模型,不仅可以预测是否会发生违约,而且可以预测违约发生的时点,比传统二分类方法可以提供更多的信息。另外,随着大数据的发展,数据源越来越多,针对相同或者相似任务,可以收集到多个数据集,本文提出了融合多源数据的整合治愈率模型,可以对多个数据集同时建模和估计参数,通过复合惩罚函数进行组间和组内双层变量选择,并通过促进两个子模型回归系数符号相同,提高模型的可解释性。通过数值模拟发现,所提方法在变量选择和参数估计上均有明显优势。最后,将所提方法应用于信用贷款的违约时点预测中,模型表现良好。  相似文献

This paper presents a procedure utilizing the generalized maximum entropy (GME) estimation method in two steps to quantify the uncertainty of the simple linear structural measurement error model parameters exactly. The first step estimates the unknowns from the horizontal line, and then the estimates were used in a second step to estimate the unknowns from the vertical line. The proposed estimation procedure has the ability to minimize the number of unknown parameters in formulating the GME system within each step, and hence reduce variability of the estimates. Analytical and illustrative Monte Carlo simulation comparison experiments with the maximum likelihood estimators and a one-step GME estimation procedure were presented. Simulation experiments demonstrated that the two steps estimation procedure produced parameter estimates that are more accurate and more efficient than the classical estimation methods. An application of the proposed method is illustrated using a data set gathered from the Centre for Integrated Government Services in Delma Island – UAE to predict the association between perceived quality and the customer satisfaction.  相似文献

Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve has been widely used in medical diagnosis. Various methods are proposed to estimate ROC curve parameters under the binormal model. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian estimation method from the continuously distributed data which is constituted by the truth-state-runs in the rank-ordered data. By using an ordinal category data likelihood and following the Metropolis–Hastings (M–H) procedure, we compute the posterior distribution of the binormal parameters, as well as the group boundaries parameters. Simulation studies and real data analysis are conducted to evaluate our Bayesian estimation method.  相似文献

The Birnbaum–Saunders (BS) distribution is a positively skewed distribution and is a common model for analysing lifetime data. In this paper, we discuss the existence and uniqueness of the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters of BS distribution based on Type-I, Type-II and hybrid censored samples. The line of proof is based on the monotonicity property of the likelihood function. We then describe the numerical iterative procedure for determining the MLEs of the parameters, and point out briefly some recently developed simple methods of estimation in the case of Type-II censoring. Some graphical illustrations of the approach are given for three real data from the reliability literature. Finally, for illustrative purpose, we also present an example in which the MLEs do not exist.  相似文献
