ACWF＇s President Meets Newly Appointed Head of UN Women

Women and the Environment: Declaration Encourages Active Participation

JUNE 5, 1994 has been mandated World Environment Day. On this day the first meeting on Women and the Environment in China was held in Beijing and the Declaration of Chinese Women on Environment was established. According to the declaration, environmental pollution and the destruction of the ecology have posed a serious threat to the survival of the human race. It has become a great issue of common concern. The functions of women in procreation and social development are directly affected by the deterioration of the environment. Invited by the president of Polish Women＇s League, a four-member delegation of Chinese women visited Poland and attended the event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Polish Women＇s League from October 18-20, 2013. The delegation, headed by Mu Hong, Director-General of the International Department of the All-China Women＇s Federation, visited grass-roots organizations of Polish Women＇s League. A. Michalak, President of Polish Women＇s League, met with the delegation. Both sides shared their opinions on improving the friendly cooperation between Chinese and Polish women. A group of photographers visited the Sun Village, a charity center for children whose parents are in jail, in Beijing on December 22, 2013, the year＇s winter solstice. The winter solstice is a traditional Chinese festival and is often marked by lamily reunions. Members of the China Women Photographers Association, including President Wang Yao and Vice-President and Secretary-General Lv Jingbo, visited the Village. They spent the day at the village playing games and cooking for the children.

It is my pleasure to be here in Hong Kong at the Beijing ＋ 15 Forum of Status of Women amid the elegance and charm of China＇s Pearl of the Orient, and to have the opportunity to meet and discuss with the women of Hong Kong their good works. As this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, it is an apt date indeed for the Hong Kong Federation of Women to hold this forum. One hundred years ago, the Second International Socialist Women＇s Conference designated March 8 International Women＇s Day. Since then, March 8 has been a festival for women around the world.

Protecting Women＇s Legal Rights, Interests
The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, on January 3, 2014, held the symposium on Protecting Women＇s Legal Rights and Interests and Doing Practical Work to Benefit Women in Beijing. Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the NPC （National People＇s Congress） Standing Committee and ACWF President, chaired the meeting.
