This comment refers to the paper ofStefani/Bleibtreu. In their model they combine two important topics of audit research: Auditor’s independence and audit market’s concentration tendencies. The objective of their paper is to demonstrate that abandoning non audit services might have negative impacts on auditors’ competitive behavior.
This comment addresses the following features of the model:
  • The paper’s relevance, because it addresses aspects of the audit market structure, which have been so far neglected in the political discussion on the EU-level.
  • The way of modeling different auditors’ offered product portfolios and auditors’ cost structures.
  • The implications of the paper’s results, because only very few papers make use of analytical models for analyzing the audit market.

Trust has been shown as a crucial factor for the adoption of new technologies. Surprisingly, trust literature offers very little guidance for systematically integrating the vast amount of behavioral trust results into the development of computing systems. The aim of this article is to develop a method for deriving trust supporting components for ubiquitous computing systems. The method is used to derive four trust supporting components for a ubiquitous restaurant recommendation system. Afterwards, the system is evaluated using a laboratory experiment with 166 undergraduate students. The results show that the users’ trust as well as their intention to use the system could be significantly increased. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first article developing and evaluating a method for systematically integrating the behavioral trust results into the development of a computing system and its value.  相似文献

Coaching for the carrying out of outplacement talksThis paper describes a coaching process with an executive, who has to carry out outplacement talks. The aim of the consulting process is to prepare the coachee in a way, that he is able to accept his role as executive and to carry out the order of the company. Further on, the coachee is encouraged to use his own potential to design the outplacement talks. Colleagues’ monitoring – a concept for executive development. The article presents the concept of Colleagues’ monitoring that combines the following formats: coaching, organisational and professional development. The program which is structured in a compact and modular way, has been for years successfully applied by the management consultancy relations. Methodically the following three elements are essential: to work on concrete personal management topics, the structured consultation with colleagues and to become acquainted with the concepts of organisational development, management and consultancy. Using a novel, hand-collected data set covering all German non-financial firms listed in the Prime Standard of FWB (Frankfurt Stock Exchange), we examine determinants of executive compensation in German listed firms. We distinguish three potential determinants: firm characteristics, firm performance, and corporate governance characteristics. While we find that simple firm characteristics like size and industry affiliation together with time effects explain more than 60 % of variation in overall compensation, performance characteristics are economically inconsequential for the explanation of compensation levels. When we distinguish between widely held firms and firms with a large blockholder, we find that the latter grant compensation packages that are smaller, less sensitive to the firm’s stock market performance but more sensitive to the firm’s operating performance. Finally, we confirm that supervisory board characteristics also affect the level of executive compensation in German firms. Overall, our findings suggest that although the corporate governance environment in Germany has changed dramatically during the last decade, German listed firms are still exposed to high agency costs.  相似文献

Supervision with volunteers in social workWhile professional supervisors are increasingly requested to work with volunteers, the widening scope of application evokes specific problems to both supervisors and volunteers. This article is supposed to carry forward the preceding article in OSC 2/05. The author describes the special features of voluntary service by example of ambulant hospice work and relates them to the setting of supervision. It becomes evident, that it is necessary to modify and extend the roles of the supervisor in order to work successfully. The author emphasizes the adequate choice of methodic repertoire. A decision to go independent means creating your own business at the age of 50 or beyond. This is not only a courageous step; it is also a risky one too. This decision is always accompanied by a complex process of “letting go” of a role that during the long period of a professional life provided predictability, status, recognition and financial security. To counter the tendency to idealise business start-ups later in life, we attempt in this paper to retrace the process of detachment in the context of the individual’s career biography. We do this by drawing on personal reflections accompanied by a theoretical framework and conceptual clarification. Suggestions and recommendations for coaching, supervision and consulting complement the more procedural aspects of necessary resources and support offerings.  相似文献

In most cases school development is designed as organizational change realized by external experts (change agents). In contrast to this procedure, the author favours a school development by internal persons, especially by the principals of schools. The model by DeAngelo LE (1981a) Auditor independence, ’Low Balling’, and disclosure regulation. J Acc Econ 3:113–127 suggests, that audit fees do not cover audit costs with the client´s first audit when there is perfect competition in the audit market (low balling). Further, audit fees are supposed to increase with the maturity of the relationship with the client (fee cutting). In order to test the DeAngelo model we perform a multiple regression analysis for the German market of listed clients. The results are: First year audit fees do not significantly differ from audit fees in later periods. Audit fees increase with the maturity of the relationship with the client. Additionally, audit fees are positively associated with non-audit fees and (weakly) with Big4-auditors. These findings partly support the propositions of the DeAngelo models.  相似文献

New perspectives on leadership. Reflecting and constructing realities in the surplus reality of psychodramaThe authors show how the psychodramatic concept of surplus reality can be used as a frame of reference for action-oriented, experiential interventions in leadership coaching. The concept is shown to have four different facets: surplus reality as a term for (1) the intangible dimensions of reality, (2) the non-verbal dimensions of reality, (3) the action space of psychodrama, (4) human imagination. The use of mental imagery and metaphors is shown to be a realization of the surplus reality principle. Case studies and practical hints for leadership coaches illustrate how surplus reality can be used to open up new ways of learning.  相似文献

The article presents a new model for leadership development: the leadership holarchy. The leadership holarchy can provide orientation in the developmental process and can sharpen the awareness of the coach for challenges and limits in the development of a leader. The model can be used as a diagnostic instrument in consulting and research and for the planning of trainings and seminars. Based on recent literature from personal development in adulthood, different stages of leadership development are described. In addition to the leadership holarchy, the article depicts the points of reference in developmental theory and theory of leadership. Coaching for executives in social work – an empirical study on consultancy needs. Executives in social work see themselves under special demands to balance the necessity to cope with public cost cutting requirements on the one hand and the design of organization structures which are to master future challenges on the other. In order to adapt coaching to the consultancy needs in this field, 96 executives working in social facilities in Thuringia were interviewed with a view to their potential consultancy needs, in particular with respect to their management functions and leadership challenges. This investigation showed a high degree of acceptance for coaching and differentiated consultancy needs in the dilemma between economization and quality oriented social work. A preliminary competence profile for coaching personnel is derived thereof.  相似文献

In the article the author refers to his first paper reviewing 22 empirical studies in the field of executive coaching (cf. OSC 12, 3, 2005). Furthermore eight new studies are presented and existing research is critically analyzed. As a result implications for further research are suggested. Though the body of empirical research is still sparse and most of the reported studies had severe limitations, they provide evidence that coaching works. Access to the field of executive coaching is considered difficult for researchers but will be crucial for future research. It is hypothesized that conventional research focusing on average and not on individual changes is perceived neither helpful nor useful by practitioners. To meet practitioners’ needs, a client focused research is advocated.  相似文献

Research on the outcomes of executive coachingThe author presents a review comparing 22 research papers published in German or English on the outcomes and factors influencing the outcomes of executive coaching. The variety of methods applied, factors leading to success, criteria of success as well as the perspectives that were established makes it difficult to carry out a comparison of these studies especially considering the small number of the studies. Moreover, many of the studies suffer from methodological flaws and miss depth of theoretical background. Overall, a positive picture emerges: Coaching seems to have a considerable effect. Clients report feelings of a burden being taken away from them. They develop a capacity to look at things differently, they improve their skills of reflection, communication and of carrying out executive tasks. Their interventions become more efficient and help their companies to increase their profit. Factors leading to this success seem to be the working relationship, the elaborate formulation of aims, the way of reaching these aims, the qualification, the commitment and the authenticity of the coach as well as the coach’s appropriate use of different techniques.  相似文献
