We consider the problem of testing the hypothesis on marginal distribution of ergodic diffusion with Fisher–Snedecor invariant distribution, to be called Fisher–Snedecor diffusion. We propose a GMM approach to testing this statistical hypothesis where the moment condition is based on eigenfunctions of the diffusion infinitesimal generator—Fisher–Snedecor polynomials. Statistical test is observed in two different settings: (1) for known values of parameters of the process; (2) for consistent moment based estimators of parameters. Results are illustrated in a short simulation study.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new reliability model of inverse gamma distribution referred to as the generalized inverse gamma distribution (GIG). A generalization of inverse gamma distribution is defined based on the exact form of generalized gamma function of Kobayashi (1991). This function is useful in many problems of diffraction theory and corrosion problems in new machines. The new distribution has a number of lifetime special sub-models. For this model, some of its statistical properties are studied. The method of maximum likelihood is used for estimating the model parameters and the observed information matrix is derived. We also demonstrate the usefulness of this distribution on a real data set.  相似文献

Recently, Sanjel and Balakrishnan [A Laguerre Polynomial Approximation for a goodness-of-fit test for exponential distribution based on progressively censored data, J. Stat. Comput. Simul. 78 (2008), pp. 503–513] proposed the use of Laguerre orthogonal polynomials for a goodness-of-fit test for the exponential distribution based on progressively censored data. In this paper, we use Jacobi and Laguerre orthogonal polynomials in order to obtain density approximants for some test statistics useful in testing for outliers in gamma and exponential samples. We first obtain the exact moments of the statistics and then the density approximants, based on these moments, are expressed in terms of Jacobi and Laguerre polynomials. A comparative study is carried out of the critical values obtained by using the proposed methods to the corresponding results given by Barnett and Lewis [Outliers in Statistical Data, 3rd ed., John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1993]. This reveals that the proposed techniques provide very accurate approximations to the distributions. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the proposed approximations. Monte Carlo simulations suggest that the proposed approximate densities are very accurate.  相似文献

Critical values are presented for the Kolmogorov-Smirnov type test statistics for the following three cases: (i) the gamma distribution when both the scale and the shape parameters are not known, (ii) the scale parameter of the gamma distribution is not known and (iii) the inverse Gaussian distribution when both the parameters are unknown. This study was motivated by the necessity to fit the gamma, the Erlang-2 and the inverse Gaussian distributions to the interpurchase times of individuals for coffee in marketing research.  相似文献

The average likelihood, defined as the integral of the like-lihood function over the parameter space, has been used as a criterion for model selection The form of the average likelihood considered uses a uniform prior. An approximation is presented based on fiducial distributions. The sampling distributions of the average likelihood and its fiducial approximation are derived for cases of sampling from one parameter members of the general-ized gamma distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, a new type of bivariate generalized gamma (BGG) distribution derived from the bivariate gamma distribution of Kibble [Two-variate gamma-type distribution. Sankh?a 1941;5:137–150] by means of a power transformation is presented. The explicit expressions of statistical properties of the BGG distribution are presented. The estimation of marginal and dependence parameters using the method of moments and the method of inference functions for margins are discussed, and their performance through a Monte Carlo simulation study is assessed. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the applicability of the distributions introduced here.  相似文献

A generalization of the exponential distribution is presented. The generalization always has its mode at zero and yet allows for increasing, decreasing and constant hazard rates. It can be used as an alternative to the gamma, Weibull and exponentiated exponential distributions. A comprehensive account of the mathematical properties of the generalization is presented. A real data example is discussed to illustrate its applicability.  相似文献

Three new generalizations of the standard gamma distribution introduced by the author are reviewed. Various properties are derived for each distribution, including its hazard rate function and moments. An application is illustrated to drought data.  相似文献

This paper compares the five-parameter beta generalized gamma (BGG) distribution to the three-parameter generalized gamma (GG). Both distributions include the four standard hazard shapes that we believe is an important property for any parametric family. For several BGG distributions, we select matching GGs and compute the Kullback-Liebler distance, observing remarkable agreement. We explore the beta parameters' influence on the matched GG parameters, detecting a strong connection between the distributions. Lastly, we compare the distributions using two real-data examples. We conclude from these comparisons that the BGG is not likely to be more useful for analytical purposes than the simpler GG.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The non parametric approach is considered to estimate probability density function (Pdf) which is supported on(0, ∞). This approach is the inverse gamma kernel. We show that it has same properties as gamma, reciprocal inverse Gaussian, and inverse Gaussian kernels such that it is free of the boundary bias, non negative, and it achieves the optimal rate of convergence for the mean integrated squared error. Also some properties of the estimator were established such as bias and variance. Comparison of the bandwidth selection methods for inverse gamma kernel estimation of Pdf is done.  相似文献

This paper has two parts. In the first part some results for generalized gamma convolutions (GGCs) are reviewed. A GGC is a limit distribution for sums of independent gamma variables. In the second part, bivariate gamma distributions and bivariate GGCs are considered. New bivariate gamma distributions are derived from shot-noise models. The remarkable property hyperbolic complete monotonicity (HCM) for a function is considered both in the univariate case and in the bivariate case.  相似文献

Regression analyses are commonly performed with doubly limited continuous dependent variables; for instance, when modeling the behavior of rates, proportions and income concentration indices. Several models are available in the literature for use with such variables, one of them being the unit gamma regression model. In all such models, parameter estimation is typically performed using the maximum likelihood method and testing inferences on the model''s parameters are usually based on the likelihood ratio test. Such a test can, however, deliver quite imprecise inferences when the sample size is small. In this paper, we propose two modified likelihood ratio test statistics for use with the unit gamma regressions that deliver much more accurate inferences when the number of data points in small. Numerical (i.e. simulation) evidence is presented for both fixed dispersion and varying dispersion models, and also for tests that involve nonnested models. We also present and discuss two empirical applications.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we generalize the univariate Macdonald distribution to the matrix case and give its derivation using matrix variate gamma distribution. We study several properties such as cumulative distribution function, marginal distribution of submatrix, triangular factorization, moment generating function, and expected values of several functions of the Macdonald matrix. Some of these results are expressed in terms of special functions of matrix arguments and zonal polynomials.  相似文献

The generalized gamma distribution includes the exponential distribution, the gamma distribution, and the Weibull distribution as special cases. It also includes the log-normal distribution in the limit as one of its parameters goes to infinity. Prentice (1974) developed an estimation method that is effective even when the underlying distribution is nearly log-normal. He reparameterized the density function so that it achieved the limiting case in a smooth fashion relative to the new parameters. He also gave formulas for the second partial derivatives of the log-density function to be used in the nearly log-normal case. His formulas included infinite summations, and he did not estimate the error in approximating these summations.

We derive approximations for the log-density function and moments of the generalized gamma distribution that are smooth in the nearly log-normal case and involve only finite summations. Absolute error bounds for these approximations are included. The approximation for the first moment is applied to the problem of estimating the parameters of a generalized gamma distribution under the constraint that the distribution have mean one. This enables the development of a correspondence between the parameters in a mean one generalized gamma distribution and certain parameters in acoustic scattering theory.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate a generalized gamma distribution recentIy developed by Agarwal and Kalla (1996). Also, we show that such generalized distribution, like the ordinary gamma distribution, has a unique mode and, unlike the ordinary gamma distribution, may have a hazard rate (mean residual life) function which is upside-down bathtub (bathtub) shaped.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Maximum likelihood estimation for the type I generalised logistic distributions is investigated. We show that the maximum likelihood estimation usually exists, except when the so-called embedded model problem occurs. A full set of embedded distributions is derived, including Gumbel distribution and a two-parameter reciprocal exponential distribution. Properties relating the embedded distributions are given. We also provide criteria to determine when the embedded distribution occurs. Examples are given for illustration.  相似文献

In this paper a finite series approximation involving Laguerre polynomials is derived for central and noncentral multivariate gamma distributions. It is shown that if one approximates the density of any k nonnegative continuous random variables by a finite series of Laguerre polynomials up to the (n1, …, nk)th degree, then all the mixed moments up to the order (n1, …, nk) of the approximated distribution equal to the mixed moments up to the same order of the random variables. Some numerical results are given for the bivariate central and noncentral multivariate gamma distributions to indicate the usefulness of the approximations.  相似文献

It is well-known that maximum likelihood (ML) estimators of the two parameters in a gamma distribution do not have closed forms. This poses difficulties in some applications such as real-time signal processing using low-grade processors. The gamma distribution is a special case of a generalized gamma distribution. Surprisingly, two out of the three likelihood equations of the generalized gamma distribution can be used as estimating equations for the gamma distribution, based on which simple closed-form estimators for the two gamma parameters are available. Intuitively, performance of the new estimators based on likelihood equations should be close to the ML estimators. The study consolidates this conjecture by establishing the asymptotic behaviors of the new estimators. In addition, the closed-forms enable bias-corrections to these estimators. The bias-correction significantly improves the small-sample performance.  相似文献

A representation of the innovation random variable for a gamma distributed first-order autoregressive process was found by Lawrance (1982) in the form of a compound Poisson distribution, connected with a shot-noise process. In this note we simplify the representation of Lawrance by providing a direct representation in terms of density functions.  相似文献

For the first time, a new five-parameter distribution, called the beta generalized gamma distribution, is introduced and studied. It contains at least 25 special sub-models such as the beta gamma, beta Weibull, beta exponential, generalized gamma (GG), Weibull and gamma distributions and thus could be a better model for analysing positive skewed data. The new density function can be expressed as a linear combination of GG densities. We derive explicit expressions for moments, generating function and other statistical measures. The elements of the expected information matrix are provided. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of a real data set.  相似文献
