To paraphrase is a helpful method frequently used in English teaching. What does it mean? How to do paraphrase? The writer cites some sentences from textbooks and some teaching materials so as to sum up the way of paraphrasing in several aspects. One is paraphrasing the key words and expressions of a sentence in a paraghaph. The other is paraphrasing the rhetorical device by explaining or revealing the implication of the figure of speech and extending the meaning on the basis of the centural idea or in accordance with the logical coherence of the context.  相似文献

Issues caused by different social cultures A clulture has a close connection with a particular language and plays an improtant role in the learn-ing and teaching of it.As we know, every nation has its own culture and the cultures of nations of theworld, generally, are different from each other.Owing to the disparities in culture,to people whospeak different languages,a word or phrase used to express good intention may surprise or irritate peo-ple;a common sentence can sometimes amuse one person greatly and cause laughter, but‘strange e-nough',it can be too, dull enough in the eyes of another person with different culture background.  相似文献

Contrary to the opinion of those people who speak a. language with ease and therefore believe that written communication should also come easily, successful composition is a difficult, time-consuming, three-stage process of planning, writing, and rewriting (or revising). As with most projects, however, the more effort invested in the process, the more rewarding the product. The article below offers some suggestions for those who wish to express their ideas more clearly and more effectively in writing.  相似文献

Charaterization, in literature, is the presentation of the hero or heroine in order to make them credible to the readers. A book with welldrawn characters is sure to touch its readers. Atticus Finch, an elaboratelyportrayed character in Miss Lee′s book To Kill A Mockingbird is a fineexample. Mainly because of its successful and adroit characterization, the  相似文献

As a noun with a general referential meaning, “Jiahuo” has experienced a process of lexicalization and form evolution from “Jiahuo2 (家活) ” through “Jiahuo3 (家火) ” to “Jiahuo (家伙) ”. Its meaning is extended during frequent language use, and has obtained the lexical meaning of THING and then HUMAN, and not the vice versa. During this process, the principles of metonymy, analogy and assimilation of character components have played a key role. Meanwhile, as a result of the diversification of the referential meaning of Jiahuo, the structures containing “X jiahuo”,such as “yi jiahuo” “ hao jiahuo” “ zhe/na jiahuo” have laid a foundation for accessing lexicalization and even grammaticalization  相似文献

One of the most authoritative literary document,The Oxford Companion to American Literature, hasdefined the term “realism” as “term applied toliterary composition that aims at an interpretation ofthe actualities of any aspect of life, free fromsubjective prejudice, idealism, or romantic color”.[1](P698) Far from being sufficient, but this definition hasbeen able to bring forward the most distinguishednature of this literary movement. <正> Ⅰ. INTRODUCTION Along with the development of language, the use of ellipsishas become common in informal English as well as in formal. Not only we meet with the omission of words frequently, but that of phrases or even sentences. Neglecting it, we may, sometimes make mistakes and get into trouble. And this bringsbefore us the importance of English ellipsis. So, here, Iwould like to have an initial study of English ellipsis, the  相似文献

Successful innovation management depends upon both, the intrinsic attributes of the new product to be marketed and the firm's internal performance like cost management, timely delivery and quality assurance. The impact of these latter aspects is frequently neglected in the design of models for supporting decision making in innovative firms.A model is outlined to study the market response of different manufacturing policies for innovative goods. It allows e.g. the evaluation of an aggressive strategy with large production capacities from the outset, or a more tentative behavior to. avoid the pressures stemming from high fixed cost and the risks of eventually idle capacity.  相似文献

If we compare the English language to an academical edifice,we can seethe basic grammar of verbs are its framework, while prepositions and idiomsconstitute its windows and doors; what remain are the vocabularies, whichare in fact the solid substances of the house——the bricks and cements thatkeep the whole building together. Then how should we collect such largeamount of material? Well, this has something to do with the topie whetherintensive reading should be taught or not in the last one year of college.  相似文献

Academic Criticism on "More People Ignorant of Fine Arts than Illiterates" in China: A Discussion with Mr. Wu Guanzhong
LIU Qiu-chang (College of Humanities, Xinjiang University, Urumuqi, 830046)
Abstract: Meimang, 美盲, or "people ignorant of fine arts," is a term coined by Mr. Wu Guanzhong. He argues that the people ignorant of fine arts outnumber the illiterates in China. His statement is lame. It is absurd to have, as the standard judging whether one is ignorant of fine arts or not, the fact that one does not appreciate the works of Henry More, modernism painter. The appreciation of beauty is an inborn nature of the human beings. The assertion that there are more people ignorant of fine arts than illiterates in China shows that the Chinese experts of fine arts are not close to the ordinary Chinese appreciators of fine arts. The Chinese experts of fine arts need to establish an appropriate relationship with the ordinary appreciators of arts. Key words: academic criticism; more people ignorant of fine arts than illiterates; multiplicity of beauty; aesthetic ability; experts of fine arts; ordinary people  相似文献

Although language study can be very interesting, it is admittedly about the most complex type of learning that a student can undertake, it is very important that we realize that language study is different from the study of science or mathematics and is more complex. Therefore the mechanical methods employed in the learning of multiplication tables, for example, may not be he most appropriate methods to use in teaching language. Real ability with language is the ability to communicate ideas. A student may know a lot of sentence patterns and rules of grammar and  相似文献

Two developments in the methodology of English teaching have been seen. One is the transition from ELT(English Language Teaching) to ESP(English for Special Purposes)teaching. The other is the transition from linguistic forms and syntactic structures to communicative activities. This essay discusses the classification of ESP/EST, argues for the purpose of ESP/EST teaching and GPE(General Purpose English)teaching. It is then suggested that the characteristics of objectives between ESP/EST and GPE should be differentiated. In the second part, the essay takes as its starting point two kinds of EST courses offered in institutions of higher learning in China. One has the nature of in-service language teaching. The other deals with the EST-majoring programme. The essay seeks to identify what are the main features of the EST-majoring programme, and stresses its practical nature of training and the concern with the learners' communicative competence.  相似文献

The politeness ranking is thought to be one of the features of the Politeness Principle (PP) (He Ziran 1988 P. 102). In the views of Leech, Brown and Levinsodn, speakers, when obeying the PP may choose appropriate politeness ranking according to contextual factors——social distance and status, age, sex, the ranking of impositions, the formality of the occasion and so on and the extent that a given act benefits or costs the addressee in a given situation.  相似文献

A PMSM speed control algorithm combining disturbance observer compensation and fuzzy integral sliding mode control (DOB+FISMC) was proposed to solve the problems of slow starting response speed and weak anti interference ability of PMSM speed regulation system. The PMSM speed control model with uncertain interference was established, and the equivalent integral sliding mode control of fuzzy switching was proposed. To reduce the switching gain of FISMC and improve the control accuracy, a disturbance observer was designed to compensate the total interference. The effectiveness of the control algorithm was verified based on the PMSM speed regulation system simulation model. The results show that, compared with the traditional proportional integral control (PI) and sliding mode control (SMC), the proposed algorithm has less tracking error, faster response and stronger resistance to interference for a given sinusoidal signal. This algorithm can improve the starting response speed and robustness of permanent magnet synchronous motors.  相似文献

Prehistoric archaeology has progressed a large step since 1949 and manyquestions were solved after a great number of prehistoric sites had beendiscovered. It is generally accepted that in the neolithic age of China thereexisted two types of culture:the 1st is the well-known“Painted-pottery Culture”in the north-web,tern part, the 2nd is the“Black-pottery Culture”in the easternpart of China;while the 3rd one the“Printed Geometric-designed potteryCulture proposed by other scholars and the writer(In my former papersbeginning from“A Neolithic site in Wuping Fukien”read in the 3rd Congressof Far-eastern Prehistorians held in Singapore Jan.1938)as that of the south-eastern region of China has not yet been determined until now.The recentdiscoveries in this region including that of Hot'ien as dealt with in this paper, however, have provided many valuable evidences to this hypothesis.  相似文献
