In this paper we consider inference for a multivariate Gaussian homogenous diffusion which is co-integrated, i.e. admits a representation in terms of stable relations (ergodic diffusions) plus Brownian motions. We show that inference on co-integration rank (the number of stable relations) in continuous time can be based on existing asymptotic distributions from discrete time co-integration analysis. Likewise the asymptotic distributions of the co-integration parameters are shown to be mixed Gaussian. Special attention is given to the parametrization of the drift terms. It is shown that the asymptotic distribution of the co-integration rank test statistic does not depend on the level of the process as a result of the chosen parametrization.  相似文献

Abstract. Parameter estimation in diffusion processes from discrete observations up to a first‐passage time is clearly of practical relevance, but does not seem to have been studied so far. In neuroscience, many models for the membrane potential evolution involve the presence of an upper threshold. Data are modelled as discretely observed diffusions which are killed when the threshold is reached. Statistical inference is often based on a misspecified likelihood ignoring the presence of the threshold causing severe bias, e.g. the bias incurred in the drift parameters of the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck model for biological relevant parameters can be up to 25–100 per cent. We compute or approximate the likelihood function of the killed process. When estimating from a single trajectory, considerable bias may still be present, and the distribution of the estimates can be heavily skewed and with a huge variance. Parametric bootstrap is effective in correcting the bias. Standard asymptotic results do not apply, but consistency and asymptotic normality may be recovered when multiple trajectories are observed, if the mean first‐passage time through the threshold is finite. Numerical examples illustrate the results and an experimental data set of intracellular recordings of the membrane potential of a motoneuron is analysed.  相似文献

This paper introduces a parametric discrete failure time model which allows a variety of smooth hazard function shapes, including shapes which are not readily available with continuous failure time models. The model is easy to fit, and statistical inference is simple. Further, it is readily extended to allow for differences between subjects while retaining the ease of fit and simplicity of statistical inference. The performance of the discrete time analysis is demonstrated by application to several data sets.  相似文献

In this article, we formulate a class of semiparametric marginal means models with a mixture of time-varying and time-independent parameters for analyzing panel data. For inference about the regression parameters, an estimation procedure is developed and asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established. In addition, some tests are presented for investigating whether or not covariate effects vary with time. The finite-sample behavior of the proposed methods is examined in simulation studies, and the data from an AIDS clinical trial study are used to illustrate the methodology.  相似文献

Inference for Observations of Integrated Diffusion Processes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Abstract.  Estimation of parameters in diffusion models is investigated when the observations are integrals over intervals of the process with respect to some weight function. This type of observations can, for example, be obtained when the process is observed after passage through an electronic filter. Another example is provided by the ice-core data on oxygen isotopes used to investigate paleo-temperatures. Finally, such data play a role in connection with the stochastic volatility models of finance. The integrated process is not a Markov process. Therefore, prediction-based estimating functions are applied to estimate parameters in the underlying diffusion model. The estimators are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal. The theory developed in the paper also applies to integrals of processes other than diffusions. The method is applied to inference based on integrated data from Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes and from the Cox–Ingersoll–Ross model, for both of which an explicit optimal estimating function is found.  相似文献

The article considers nonparametric inference for quantile regression models with time-varying coefficients. The errors and covariates of the regression are assumed to belong to a general class of locally stationary processes and are allowed to be cross-dependent. Simultaneous confidence tubes (SCTs) and integrated squared difference tests (ISDTs) are proposed for simultaneous nonparametric inference of the latter models with asymptotically correct coverage probabilities and Type I error rates. Our methodologies are shown to possess certain asymptotically optimal properties. Furthermore, we propose an information criterion that performs consistent model selection for nonparametric quantile regression models of nonstationary time series. For implementation, a wild bootstrap procedure is proposed, which is shown to be robust to the dependent and nonstationary data structure. Our method is applied to studying the asymmetric and time-varying dynamic structures of the U.S. unemployment rate since the 1940s. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.  相似文献

This article introduces the robust indirect technique for the slightly contaminated stochastic logistic population models. Based on discrete sampled data with a fixed unit of time between two consecutive observations, we not only construct the robust indirect inference generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator for the model parameters, but also propose a likelihood-ratio-type indirect statistic and a robust indirect GMM saddle-point statistic for testing the parameters of interest. In addition, we develop the robust exponential tilting estimator and the robust exponential tilting test to improve their small sample performances. Finally, their finite-sample properties are studied through Monte Carlo experiments.  相似文献

It is suggested that inference under the proportional hazard model can be carried out by programs for exact inference under the logistic regression model. Advantages of such inference is that software is available and that multivariate models can be addressed. The method has been evaluated by means of coverage and power calculations in certain situations. In all situations coverage was above the nominal level, but on the other hand rather conservative. A different type of exact inference is developed under Type II censoring. Inference was then less conservative, however there are limitations with respect to censoring mechanism, multivariate generalizations and software is not available. This method also requires extensive computational power. Performance of large sample Wald, score and likelihood inference was also considered. Large sample methods works remarkably well with small data sets, but inference by score statistics seems to be the best choice. There seems to be some problems with likelihood ratio inference that may originate from how this method works with infinite estimates of the regression parameter. Inference by Wald statistics can be quite conservative with very small data sets.  相似文献

Modelling of HIV dynamics in AIDS research has greatly improved our understanding of the pathogenesis of HIV-1 infection and guided for the treatment of AIDS patients and evaluation of antiretroviral therapies. Some of the model parameters may have practical meanings with prior knowledge available, but others might not have prior knowledge. Incorporating priors can improve the statistical inference. Although there have been extensive Bayesian and frequentist estimation methods for the viral dynamic models, little work has been done on making simultaneous inference about the Bayesian and frequentist parameters. In this article, we propose a hybrid Bayesian inference approach for viral dynamic nonlinear mixed-effects models using the Bayesian frequentist hybrid theory developed in Yuan [Bayesian frequentist hybrid inference, Ann. Statist. 37 (2009), pp. 2458–2501]. Compared with frequentist inference in a real example and two simulation examples, the hybrid Bayesian approach is able to improve the inference accuracy without compromising the computational load.  相似文献

Failure Inference From a Marker Process Based on a Bivariate Wiener Model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Many models have been proposed that relate failure times and stochastic time-varying covariates. In some of these models, failure occurs when a particular observable marker crosses a threshold level. We are interested in the more difficult, and often more realistic, situation where failure is not related deterministically to an observable marker. In this case, joint models for marker evolution and failure tend to lead to complicated calculations for characteristics such as the marginal distribution of failure time or the joint distribution of failure time and marker value at failure. This paper presents a model based on a bivariate Wiener process in which one component represents the marker and the second, which is latent (unobservable), determines the failure time. In particular, failure occurs when the latent component crosses a threshold level. The model yields reasonably simple expressions for the characteristics mentioned above and is easy to fit to commonly occurring data that involve the marker value at the censoring time for surviving cases and the marker value and failure time for failing cases. Parametric and predictive inference are discussed, as well as model checking. An extension of the model permits the construction of a composite marker from several candidate markers that may be available. The methodology is demonstrated by a simulated example and a case application.  相似文献

A new algorithm is presented for exact simulation from the conditional distribution of the genealogical history of a sample, given the composition of the sample, for population genetics models with general diploid selection. The method applies to the usual diffusion approximation of evolution at a single locus, in a randomly mating population of constant size, for mutation models in which the distribution of the type of a mutant does not depend on the type of the progenitor allele; this includes any model with only two alleles. The new method is applied to ancestral inference for the two‐allele case, both with genic selection and heterozygote advantage and disadvantage, where one of the alleles is assumed to have resulted from a unique mutation event. The paper describes how the method could be used for inference when data are also available at neutral markers linked to the locus under selection. It also informally describes and constructs the non‐neutral Fleming–Viot measure‐valued diffusion.  相似文献

We propose a class of state-space models for multivariate longitudinal data where the components of the response vector may have different distributions. The approach is based on the class of Tweedie exponential dispersion models, which accommodates a wide variety of discrete, continuous and mixed data. The latent process is assumed to be a Markov process, and the observations are conditionally independent given the latent process, over time as well as over the components of the response vector. This provides a fully parametric alternative to the quasilikelihood approach of Liang and Zeger. We estimate the regression parameters for time-varying covariates entering either via the observation model or via the latent process, based on an estimating equation derived from the Kalman smoother. We also consider analysis of residuals from both the observation model and the latent process.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider parametric Bayesian inference for stochastic differential equations driven by a pure‐jump stable Lévy process, which is observed at high frequency. In most cases of practical interest, the likelihood function is not available; hence, we use a quasi‐likelihood and place an associated prior on the unknown parameters. It is shown under regularity conditions that there is a Bernstein–von Mises theorem associated to the posterior. We then develop a Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for Bayesian inference, and assisted with theoretical results, we show how to scale Metropolis–Hastings proposals when the frequency of the data grows, in order to prevent the acceptance ratio from going to zero in the large data limit. Our algorithm is presented on numerical examples that help verify our theoretical findings.  相似文献

In this paper we present a fully model-based analysis of the effects of suppression and failure in data transmission with sensor networks. Sensor networks are becoming an increasingly common data collection mechanism in a variety of fields. Sensors can be created to collect data at very high temporal resolution. However, during periods when the process is following a stable path, transmission of such high resolution data would carry little additional information with regard to the process model, i.e., all of the data that is collected need not be transmitted. In particular, when there is cost to transmission, we find ourselves moving to consideration of suppression in transmission. Additionally, for many sensor networks, in practice, we will experience failures in transmission—messages sent by a sensor but not received at the gateway, messages sent but arriving corrupted. Evidently, both suppression and failure lead to information loss which will be reflected in inference associated with our process model. Our effort here is to assess the impact of such information loss under varying extents of suppression and varying incidence of failure. We consider two illustrative process models, presenting fully model-based analyses of suppression and failure using hierarchical models. Such models naturally facilitate borrowing strength across nodes, leveraging all available data to learn about local process behavior.  相似文献

Engineering degradation tests allow industry to assess the potential life span of long-life products that do not fail readily under accelerated conditions in life tests. A general statistical model is presented here for performance degradation of an item of equipment. The degradation process in the model is taken to be a Wiener diffusion process with a time scale transformation. The model incorporates Arrhenius extrapolation for high stress testing. The lifetime of an item is defined as the time until performance deteriorates to a specified failure threshold. The model can be used to predict the lifetime of an item or the extent of degradation of an item at a specified future time. Inference methods for the model parameters, based on accelerated degradation test data, are presented. The model and inference methods are illustrated with a case application involving self-regulating heating cables. The paper also discusses a number of practical issues encountered in applications. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Discrete choice models describe the choices made by decision makers among alternatives and play an important role in transportation planning, marketing research and other applications. The mixed multinomial logit (MMNL) model is a popular discrete choice model that captures heterogeneity in the preferences of decision makers through random coefficients. While Markov chain Monte Carlo methods provide the Bayesian analogue to classical procedures for estimating MMNL models, computations can be prohibitively expensive for large datasets. Approximate inference can be obtained using variational methods at a lower computational cost with competitive accuracy. In this paper, we develop variational methods for estimating MMNL models that allow random coefficients to be correlated in the posterior and can be extended easily to large-scale datasets. We explore three alternatives: (1) Laplace variational inference, (2) nonconjugate variational message passing and (3) stochastic linear regression. Their performances are compared using real and simulated data. To accelerate convergence for large datasets, we develop stochastic variational inference for MMNL models using each of the above alternatives. Stochastic variational inference allows data to be processed in minibatches by optimizing global variational parameters using stochastic gradient approximation. A novel strategy for increasing minibatch sizes adaptively within stochastic variational inference is proposed.  相似文献

In this paper we present methods for inference on data selected by a complex sampling design for a class of statistical models for the analysis of ordinal variables. Specifically, assuming that the sampling scheme is not ignorable, we derive for the class of cub models (Combination of discrete Uniform and shifted Binomial distributions) variance estimates for a complex two stage stratified sample. Both Taylor linearization and repeated replication variance estimators are presented. We also provide design‐based test diagnostics and goodness‐of‐fit measures. We illustrate by means of real data analysis the differences between survey‐weighted and unweighted point estimates and inferences for cub model parameters.  相似文献

Abstract.  Mixed model based approaches for semiparametric regression have gained much interest in recent years, both in theory and application. They provide a unified and modular framework for penalized likelihood and closely related empirical Bayes inference. In this article, we develop mixed model methodology for a broad class of Cox-type hazard regression models where the usual linear predictor is generalized to a geoadditive predictor incorporating non-parametric terms for the (log-)baseline hazard rate, time-varying coefficients and non-linear effects of continuous covariates, a spatial component, and additional cluster-specific frailties. Non-linear and time-varying effects are modelled through penalized splines, while spatial components are treated as correlated random effects following either a Markov random field or a stationary Gaussian random field prior. Generalizing existing mixed model methodology, inference is derived using penalized likelihood for regression coefficients and (approximate) marginal likelihood for smoothing parameters. In a simulation we study the performance of the proposed method, in particular comparing it with its fully Bayesian counterpart using Markov chain Monte Carlo methodology, and complement the results by some asymptotic considerations. As an application, we analyse leukaemia survival data from northwest England.  相似文献

In recent years, a large number of new discrete distributions have appeared in the literature. However, flexible discrete models which, at the same time, allow for easy statistical inference, are still an exception. This paper makes a detailed analysis of a family of discrete failure time distributions which meets both requirements. It examines the maximum likelihood estimation of the unknown parameters and presents a goodness-of-fit test for this model. The test is used for the selection of an appropriate model for datasets of frequencies of the duration of atmospheric circulation patterns.  相似文献

A threshold autoregressive model for wholesale electricity prices   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary.  We introduce a discrete time model for electricity prices which accounts for both transitory spikes and temperature effects. The model allows for different rates of mean reversion: one for weather events, one around price jumps and another for the remainder of the process. We estimate the model by using a Markov chain Monte Carlo approach with 3 years of daily data from Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. We show that our model outperforms existing stochastic jump diffusion models for this data set. Results also demonstrate the importance of model parameters corresponding to both the temperature effect and the multilevel mean reversion rate.  相似文献
