We propose optimal procedures to achieve the goal of partitioning k multivariate normal populations into two disjoint subsets with respect to a given standard vector. Definition of good or bad multivariate normal populations is given according to their Mahalanobis distances to a known standard vector as being small or large. Partitioning k multivariate normal populations is reduced to partitioning k non-central Chi-square or non-central F distributions with respect to the corresponding non-centrality parameters depending on whether the covariance matrices are known or unknown. The minimum required sample size for each population is determined to ensure that the probability of correct decision attains a certain level. An example is given to illustrate our procedures.  相似文献

The mean vector associated with several independent variates from the exponential subclass of Hudson (1978) is estimated under weighted squared error loss. In particular, the formal Bayes and “Stein-like” estimators of the mean vector are given. Conditions are also given under which these estimators dominate any of the “natural estimators”. Our conditions for dominance are motivated by a result of Stein (1981), who treated the Np (θ, I) case with p ≥ 3. Stein showed that formal Bayes estimators dominate the usual estimator if the marginal density of the data is superharmonic. Our present exponential class generalization entails an elliptic differential inequality in some natural variables. Actually, we assume that each component of the data vector has a probability density function which satisfies a certain differential equation. While the densities of Hudson (1978) are particular solutions of this equation, other solutions are not of the exponential class if certain parameters are unknown. Our approach allows for the possibility of extending the parametric Stein-theory to useful nonexponential cases, but the problem of nuisance parameters is not treated here.  相似文献

We consider a general class of mixed models, where the individual parameter vector is composed of a linear function of the population parameter vector plus an individual random effects vector. The linear function can vary for the different individuals. We show that the search for optimal designs for the estimation of the population parameter vector can be restricted to the class of group-wise identical designs, i.e., for each of the groups defined by the different linear functions only one individual elementary design has to be optimized. A way to apply the result to non-linear mixed models is described.  相似文献

Let (X1,…,Xk) be a multinomial vector with unknown cell probabilities (p1,?,pk). A subset of the cells is to be selected in a way so that the cell associated with the smallest cell probability is included in the selected subset with a preassigned probability, P1. Suppose the loss is measured by the size of the selected subset, S. Using linear programming techniques, selection rules can be constructed which are minimax with respect to S in the class of rules which satisfy the P1-condition. In some situations, the rule constructed by this method is the rule proposed by Nagel (1970). Similar techniques also work for selection in terms of the largest cell probability.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of the probability density estimation in the presence of covariates when data are missing at random (MAR). The inverse probability weighted method is used to define a nonparametric and a semiparametric weighted probability density estimators. A regression calibration technique is also used to define an imputed estimator. It is shown that all the estimators are asymptotically normal with the same asymptotic variance as that of the inverse probability weighted estimator with known selection probability function and weights. Also, we establish the mean squared error (MSE) bounds and obtain the MSE convergence rates. A simulation is carried out to assess the proposed estimators in terms of the bias and standard error.  相似文献

This paper proposes a method for obtaining the exact probability of occurrence of the first success run of specified length with the additional constraint that at every trial until the occurrence of the first success run the number of successes up to the trial exceeds that of failures. For the sake of the additional constraint, the problem cannot be solved by the usual method of conditional probability generating functions. An idea of a kind of truncation is introduced and studied in order to solve the problem. Concrete methods for obtaining the probability in the cases of Bernoulli trials and time-homogeneous {0,1}{0,1}-valued Markov dependent trials are given. As an application of the results, a modification of the start-up demonstration test is studied. Numerical examples which illustrate the feasibility of the results are also given.  相似文献

This paper extends the results of canonical correlation analysis of Anderson [2002. Canonical correlation analysis and reduced-rank regression in autoregressive models. Ann. Statist. 30, 1134–1154] to a vector AR(1) process with a vector ARCH(1) innovations. We obtain the limiting distributions of the sample matrices, the canonical correlations and the canonical vectors of the process. The extension is important because many time series in economics and finance exhibit conditional heteroscedasticity. We also use simulation to demonstrate the effects of ARCH innovations on the canonical correlation analysis in finite sample. Both the limiting distributions and simulation results show that overlooking the ARCH effects in canonical correlation analysis can easily lead to erroneous inference.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the classification of high-dimensional vectors based on a small number of training samples from each class. The proposed method follows the Bayesian paradigm, and it is based on a small vector which can be viewed as the regression of the new observation on the space spanned by the training samples. The classification method provides posterior probabilities that the new vector belongs to each of the classes, hence it adapts naturally to any number of classes. Furthermore, we show a direct similarity between the proposed method and the multicategory linear support vector machine introduced in Lee et al. [2004. Multicategory support vector machines: theory and applications to the classification of microarray data and satellite radiance data. Journal of the American Statistical Association 99 (465), 67–81]. We compare the performance of the technique proposed in this paper with the SVM classifier using real-life military and microarray datasets. The study shows that the misclassification errors of both methods are very similar, and that the posterior probabilities assigned to each class are fairly accurate.  相似文献

This paper treats an abstract parametric family of symmetric linear estimators for the mean vector of a standard linear model. The estimator in this family that has smallest estimated quadratic risk is shown to attain, asymptotically, the smallest risk achievable over all candidate estimators in the family. The asymptotic analysis is carried out under a strong Gauss–Markov form of the linear model in which the dimension of the regression space tends to infinity. Leading examples to which the results apply include: (a) penalized least squares fits constrained by multiple, weighted, quadratic penalties; and (b) running, symmetrically weighted, means. In both instances, the weights define a parameter vector whose natural domain is a continuum.  相似文献

Semiparametric Bayesian models are nowadays a popular tool in event history analysis. An important area of research concerns the investigation of frequentist properties of posterior inference. In this paper, we propose novel semiparametric Bayesian models for the analysis of competing risks data and investigate the Bernstein–von Mises theorem for differentiable functionals of model parameters. The model is specified by expressing the cause-specific hazard as the product of the conditional probability of a failure type and the overall hazard rate. We take the conditional probability as a smooth function of time and leave the cumulative overall hazard unspecified. A prior distribution is defined on the joint parameter space, which includes a beta process prior for the cumulative overall hazard. We first develop the large-sample properties of maximum likelihood estimators by giving simple sufficient conditions for them to hold. Then, we show that, under the chosen priors, the posterior distribution for any differentiable functional of interest is asymptotically equivalent to the sampling distribution derived from maximum likelihood estimation. A simulation study is provided to illustrate the coverage properties of credible intervals on cumulative incidence functions.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with ranked set sampling theory which is useful to estimate the population mean when the order of a sample of small size can be found without measurements or with rough methods. Consider n sets of elements each set having size m. All elements of each set are ranked but only one is selected and quantified. The average of the quantified elements is adopted as the estimator. In this paper we introduce the notion of selective probability which is a generalization of a notion from Yanagawa and Shirahata (1976). Uniformly optimal unbiased procedures are found for some (n,m). Furthermore, procedures which are unbiased for all distributions and are good for symmetric distributions are studied for (n,m) which do not allow uniformly optimal unbiased procedures.  相似文献

Abstract

In a 2-step monotone missing dataset drawn from a multivariate normal population, T2-type test statistic (similar to Hotelling’s T2 test statistic) and likelihood ratio (LR) are often used for the test for a mean vector. In complete data, Hotelling’s T2 test and LR test are equivalent, however T2-type test and LR test are not equivalent in the 2-step monotone missing dataset. Then we interest which statistic is reasonable with relation to power. In this paper, we derive asymptotic power function of both statistics under a local alternative and obtain an explicit form for difference in asymptotic power function. Furthermore, under several parameter settings, we compare LR and T2-type test numerically by using difference in empirical power and in asymptotic power function. Summarizing obtained results, we recommend applying LR test for testing a mean vector.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of interval estimation of the scale parameter in the two-parameter exponential distribution subject to Type II double censoring. Base on a Type II doubly censored sample, we construct a class of interval estimators of the scale parameter which are better than the shortest length affine equivariant interval both in coverage probability and in length. The procedure can be repeated to make further improvement. The extension of the method leads to a smoothly improved confidence interval which improves the interval length with probability one. All improved intervals belong to the class of scale equivariant intervals.  相似文献

In this paper we comment on and review some unexpected but interesting features of the BLUE (best linear unbiased estimator) of the expectation vector in the general linear model and in particular, the BLUE's covariance matrix. Most of these features appear in the literature but are rather scattered or hidden.  相似文献

Most statistical models arising in real life applications as well as in interdisciplinary research are complex in their designs, sampling plans, and associated probability laws, which in turn are often constrained by inequality, order, functional, shape or other restraints. Optimality of conventional likelihood ratio based statistical inference may not be tenable here, although the use of restricted or quasi-likelihood has spurred in such environments. S.N. Roy's ingenious union–intersection principle provides an alternative avenue, often having some computational advantages, increased scope of adaptability, and flexibility beyond conventional likelihood paradigms. This scenario is appraised here with some illustrative examples, and with some interesting problems of inference on stochastic ordering (dominance) in parametric as well as beyond parametric setups.  相似文献

We define a class of count distributions which includes the Poisson as well as many alternative count models. Then the empirical probability generating function is utilized to construct a test for the Poisson distribution, which is consistent against this class of alternatives. The limit distribution of the test statistic is derived in case of a general underlying distribution, and efficiency considerations are addressed. A simulation study indicates that the new test is comparable in performance to more complicated omnibus tests.  相似文献

We develop a class of new multivariate procedures for monitoring quality by detecting a change in the level of a multivariate process. Following the ideas of S.N. Roy, we first consider a linear combination statistic which results from projecting the multivariate observations onto a unit vector and then maximizing a selected univariate statistic over all directions.  相似文献

We consider a multivariate linear model for multivariate controlled calibration, and construct some conservative confidence regions, which are nonempty and invariant under nonsingular transformations. The computation of our confidence region is easier compared to some of the existing procedures. We illustrate the results using two examples. The simulation results show the closeness of the coverage probability of our confidence regions to the assumed confidence level.  相似文献

This paper establishes consistency and asymptotic distribution theory for the least squares estimate of a vector parameter of non-linear regression with long-range dependent noise. A covariance-based estimate of the memory parameter is proposed. The consistency of the estimate is established.  相似文献
