Designs for quadratic and cubic regression are considered when the possible choices of the controlable variable are points x=( x1,x2,…,xq) in the q-dimensional. Full of radius R, Bq(R) ={x:Σ4ix2i?R2}. The designs that are optimum among rotatable designs with respect to the D-, A-, and E-optimality criteria are compared in their performance relative to these and other criteria, including extrapolation. Additionally, the performance of a design optimum for one value of R, when it is implemented for a different value of R, is investigated. Some of the results are developed algebraically; others, numerically. For example, in quadratic regression the A-optimum design appears to be fairly robust in its efficiency, under variation of criterion.  相似文献

Designs for quadratic regression are considered when the possible choices of the controllable variable are points x=(x1,x2,…,xq) in the q-dimensional cube of side 2. The designs that are optimum with respect to such criteria as those of D-, A-, and E-optimality are compared in their performance relative to these and other criteria. Some of the results are developed algebraically; others, numerically. The possible supports of E-optimum designs are much more numerous than the D-optimum supports characterized earlier. The A-optimum design appears to be fairly robust in its efficiency, under variation of criterion.  相似文献

It is shown that the minimal covering designs for v=6t+5 treatments in blocks of size 3 are optimal w.r.t. a large class of optimality criteria. This class of optimality criteria includes the well-known criteria of A-, D- and E-optimality. It is conjectured that these designs are also optimal w.r.t. other criteria suggested by Takeuchi (1961).  相似文献

Two sufficient conditions are given for an incomplete block design to be (M,S- optimal. For binary designs the conditions are (i) that the elements in each row, excluding the diagonal element, of the association matrix differ by at most one, and (ii) that the off-diagonal elements of the block characteristic matrix differ by at most one. It is also shown how the conditions can be utilized for nonbinary designs and that for blocks of size two the sufficient condition in terms of the association matrix can be attained.  相似文献

For paired comparison experiments involving pairs of multifactor options differing in a specified number of factors the problem of finding optimal designs is considered, when only main effects are to be estimated. It is presumed that the set of factors can be partitioned into two groups such that the number of levels is constant within each group. The optimal designs for this frequently encountered case are also optimal for the corresponding choice experiments under the hypothesis that the parameters in the multinomial logit model are equal to zero.  相似文献

We investigate optimal designs for discriminating between exponential regression models of different complexity, which are widely used in the biological sciences; see, e.g., Landaw [1995. Robust sampling designs for compartmental models under large prior eigenvalue uncertainties. Math. Comput. Biomed. Appl. 181–187] or Gibaldi and Perrier [1982. Pharmacokinetics. Marcel Dekker, New York]. We discuss different approaches for the construction of appropriate optimality criteria, and find sharper upper bounds on the number of support points of locally optimal discrimination designs than those given by Caratheodory's Theorem. These results greatly facilitate the numerical construction of optimal designs. Various examples of optimal designs are then presented and compared to different other designs. Moreover, to protect the experiment against misspecifications of the nonlinear model parameters, we adapt the design criteria such that the resulting designs are robust with respect to such misspecifications and, again, provide several examples, which demonstrate the advantages of our approach.  相似文献

We consider the Bayesian D-optimal design problem for exponential growth models with one, two or three parameters. For the one-parameter model conditions on the shape of the density of the prior distribution and on the range of its support are given guaranteeing that a one-point design is also Bayesian D-optimal within the class of all designs. In the case of two parameters the best two-point designs are determined and for special prior distributions it is proved that these designs are Bayesian D-optimal. Finally, the exponential growth model with three parameters is investigated. The best three-point designs are characterized by a nonlinear equation. The global optimality of these designs cannot be proved analytically and it is demonstrated that these designs are also Bayesian D-optimal within the class of all designs if gamma-distributions are used as prior distributions.  相似文献

Minimization of the maximum and average variance of the difference between estimated responses are taken as design criteria for univariate polynomial regression models. An optimal design under the first criterion is derived for the second-order model and a class of designs nearly optimal under the second criterion is obtained for the general polynomial models.  相似文献

In this paper the use of Kronecker designs for factorial experiments is considered. The two-factor Kronecker design is considered in some detail and the efficiency factors of the main effects and interaction in such a design are derived. It is shown that the efficiency factor of the interaction is at least as large as the product of the efficiency factors of the two main effects and when both the component designs are totally balanced then its efficiency factor will be higher than the efficiency factor of either of the two main effects. If the component designs are nearly balanced then its efficiency factor will be approximately at least as large as the efficiency factor of either of the two main effects. It is argued that these designs are particularly useful for factorial experiments.Extensions to the multi-factor design are given and it is proved that the two-factor Kronecker design will be connected if the component designs are connected.  相似文献

Optimality properties of approximate block designs are studied under variations of (1) the class of competing designs, (2) the optimality criterion, (3) the parametric function of interest, and (4) the statistical model. The designs which are optimal turn out to be the product of their treatment and block marginals, and uniform designs when the support is specified in advance. Optimality here means uniform, universal, and simultaneous jp-optimality. The classical balanced incomplete block designs are embedded into this approach, and shown to be simultaneously jp-optimal for a maximal system of identifiable parameters. A geometric account of universal optimality is given which applies beyond the context of block designs.  相似文献

New third-order rotatable designs in four dimensions are derived from third-order rotatable designs in two dimensions. When these designs are used the results of the experiments performed according to the two-dimensional designs need not be discarded. Further, one of the derived designs requires only sixty points whereas the smallest of the third-order rotatable designs in four dimensions available in the literature require seventy two points.  相似文献

Equivalent factorial designs have identical statistical properties for estimation of factorial contrasts and for model fitting. Non-equivalent designs, however, may have the same statistical properties under one particular model but different properties under a different model. In this paper, we describe known methods for the determination of equivalence or non-equivalence of two-level factorial designs, whether they be regular factorial designs, non-regular orthogonal arrays, or have no particular structure. In addition, we evaluate a number of potential fast screening methods for detecting non-equivalence of designs. Although the paper concentrates mainly on symmetric designs with factors at two levels, we also evaluate methods of determining combinatorial equivalence and non-equivalence of three-level designs and indicate extensions to larger numbers of levels and to asymmetric designs.  相似文献

Discrete discrepancy has been utilized as a uniformity measure for comparing and evaluating factorial designs. In this paper, for asymmetrical factorials, we give some linkages between uniformity measured by the discrete discrepancy and other criteria, such as generalized minimum aberration (Xu and Wu, 2001) and minimum projection variance (Ai and Zhang, 2004). These close linkages show a significant justification for the discrete discrepancy used to measure uniformity of factorial designs, and provide an additional rationale for using uniform designs. We exploit Bayesian criteria for designing M/M/c//rM/M/c//r queueing systems with spares. For illustration of our approach we use a real problem from aeronautic maintenance, where the numbers of repair crews and spare planes must be sufficiently large to meet the necessary operational capacity. Bayesian guarantees for this to happen can be given using predictive or posterior distributions.  相似文献

An experimental design is said to be Schur optimal, if it is optimal with respect to the class of all Schur isotonic criteria, which includes Kiefer's criteria of ΦpΦp-optimality, distance optimality criteria and many others. In the paper we formulate an easily verifiable necessary and sufficient condition for Schur optimality in the set of all approximate designs of a linear regression experiment with uncorrelated errors. We also show that several common models admit a Schur optimal design, for example the trigonometric model, the first-degree model on the Euclidean ball, and the Berman's model.  相似文献

The D‐optimal minimax criterion is proposed to construct fractional factorial designs. The resulting designs are very efficient, and robust against misspecification of the effects in the linear model. The criterion was first proposed by Wilmut & Zhou (2011); their work is limited to two‐level factorial designs, however. In this paper we extend this criterion to designs with factors having any levels (including mixed levels) and explore several important properties of this criterion. Theoretical results are obtained for construction of fractional factorial designs in general. This minimax criterion is not only scale invariant, but also invariant under level permutations. Moreover, it can be applied to any run size. This is an advantage over some other existing criteria. In this paper, we investigate the problem of determining block designs which are optimal under type 1 optimality criteria within various classes of designs having υ treatments arranged in b blocks of size k. The solutions to two optimization problems are given which are related to a general result obtained by Cheng (1978) and which are useful in this investigation. As one application of the solutions obtained, the definition of a regular graph design given in Mitchell and John (1977) is extended to that of a semi-regular graph design and some sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a semi-regular graph design which is optimal under a given type 1 criterion. A result is also given which shows how the sufficient conditions derived can be used to establish the optimality under a specific type 1 criterion of some particular types of semi- regular graph designs having both equal and unequal numbers of replicates. Finally, some sufficient conditions are obtained for the dual of an A- or D-optimal design to be A- or D-optimal within an appropriate class of dual designs.  相似文献

The present article establishes equivalence between extended group divisible (EGD) designs and designs for crop sequence experiments. This equivalence has encouraged the agricultural experimenters to use EGD designs for their experimentation. Some real life applications of EGD designs have been given. It has also been shown that several existing association schemes are special cases of EGD association scheme. Some methods of construction of EGD designs are also given. A catalogue of EGD designs obtainable through methods of construction along with efficiency factors of various factorial effects is also presented. In some crop sequence experiments that are conducted to develop suitable integrated nutrient supply system of a crop sequence, the treatments do not comprise of a complete factorial structure. The experimenter is interested in estimating the residual and direct effect of the treatments along with their cumulative effects. For such experimental settings block designs with two sets of treatments applied in succession are the appropriate designs. The correspondence established between row–column designs and block designs for two stage experiments by Parsad et al. [2003. Structurally incomplete row–column designs. Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 32(1), 239–261] has been exploited in obtaining designs for such experimental situations. Some open problems related to designing of crop sequence experiments are also given.  相似文献

In the general linear model consider the experimental design problem for the Gauß-Markov estimator or least squares estimator when the observations are correlated. We prove new formulas for the efficiency of an exact design with respect to the D-criterion. For models with intercept term, for example, these formulas are useful to derive better lower bounds for the efficiency than the bounds recently given for an arbitrary linear model. These bounds are applied in examples to symmetrical regular circulants as covariance matrices. A byproduct of the investigations is some insight as to what kinds of designs might retain their optimality or high efficiency (for the uncorrelated homoscedastic case) under correlated observations.  相似文献
