We develop a hierarchical Bayesian approach for inference in random coefficient dynamic panel data models. Our approach allows for the initial values of each unit's process to be correlated with the unit-specific coefficients. We impose a stationarity assumption for each unit's process by assuming that the unit-specific autoregressive coefficient is drawn from a logitnormal distribution. Our method is shown to have favorable properties compared to the mean group estimator in a Monte Carlo study. We apply our approach to analyze energy and protein intakes among individuals from the Philippines.  相似文献

The two-parameter generalized exponential (GE) distribution was introduced by Gupta and Kundu [Gupta, R.D. and Kundu, D., 1999, Generalized exponential distribution. Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 41(2), 173–188.]. It was observed that the GE can be used in situations where a skewed distribution for a nonnegative random variable is needed. In this article, the Bayesian estimation and prediction for the GE distribution, using informative priors, have been considered. Importance sampling is used to estimate the parameters, as well as the reliability function, and the Gibbs and Metropolis samplers data sets are used to predict the behavior of further observations from the distribution. Two data sets are used to illustrate the Bayesian procedure.  相似文献

Suppose that a compound Poisson process is observed discretely in time and assume that its jump distribution is supported on the set of natural numbers. In this paper we propose a nonparametric Bayesian approach to estimate the intensity of the underlying Poisson process and the distribution of the jumps. We provide a Markov chain Monte Carlo scheme for obtaining samples from the posterior. We apply our method on both simulated and real data examples, and compare its performance with the frequentist plug-in estimator proposed by Buchmann and Grübel. On a theoretical side, we study the posterior from the frequentist point of view and prove that as the sample size n, it contracts around the “true,” data-generating parameters at rate 1/n, up to a logn factor.  相似文献

Summary.  We discuss a method for combining different but related longitudinal studies to improve predictive precision. The motivation is to borrow strength across clinical studies in which the same measurements are collected at different frequencies. Key features of the data are heterogeneous populations and an unbalanced design across three studies of interest. The first two studies are phase I studies with very detailed observations on a relatively small number of patients. The third study is a large phase III study with over 1500 enrolled patients, but with relatively few measurements on each patient. Patients receive different doses of several drugs in the studies, with the phase III study containing significantly less toxic treatments. Thus, the main challenges for the analysis are to accommodate heterogeneous population distributions and to formalize borrowing strength across the studies and across the various treatment levels. We describe a hierarchical extension over suitable semiparametric longitudinal data models to achieve the inferential goal. A nonparametric random-effects model accommodates the heterogeneity of the population of patients. A hierarchical extension allows borrowing strength across different studies and different levels of treatment by introducing dependence across these nonparametric random-effects distributions. Dependence is introduced by building an analysis of variance (ANOVA) like structure over the random-effects distributions for different studies and treatment combinations. Model structure and parameter interpretation are similar to standard ANOVA models. Instead of the unknown normal means as in standard ANOVA models, however, the basic objects of inference are random distributions, namely the unknown population distributions under each study. The analysis is based on a mixture of Dirichlet processes model as the underlying semiparametric model.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This work presents advanced computational aspects of a new method for changepoint detection on spatio-temporal point process data. We summarize the methodology, based on building a Bayesian hierarchical model for the data and declaring prior conjectures on the number and positions of the changepoints, and show how to take decisions regarding the acceptance of potential changepoints. The focus of this work is about choosing an approach that detects the correct changepoint and delivers smooth reliable estimates in a feasible computational time; we propose Bayesian P-splines as a suitable tool for managing spatial variation, both under a computational and a model fitting performance perspective. The main computational challenges are outlined and a solution involving parallel computing in R is proposed and tested on a simulation study. An application is also presented on a data set of seismic events in Italy over the last 20 years.  相似文献

Under a natural conjugate prior with four hyperparameters, the importance sampling (IS) technique is applied to the Bayesian analysis of the power law process (PLP). Samples of the parameters of the PLP are obtained from IS. Based on these samples, not only the posterior analysis of parameters and some parameter functions in the PLP are performed conveniently, but also single-sample and two-sample prediction procedures are constructed easily. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the posterior mean of the parameter functions in the PLP is studied with respect to the hyperparameters of the natural conjugate prior and it can guide the selections of the hyperparameters directly. Coupled this sensitivity with the relations between the prior moments and the hyperparameters in the natural conjugate prior, it is possible to give directions about the selections of the prior moments to a certain degree. After some numerical experiments illustrate the rationality and feasibility of the proposed methods, an engineering example demonstrates its application.  相似文献

We consider exact and approximate Bayesian computation in the presence of latent variables or missing data. Specifically we explore the application of a posterior predictive distribution formula derived in Sweeting And Kharroubi (2003), which is a particular form of Laplace approximation, both as an importance function and a proposal distribution. We show that this formula provides a stable importance function for use within poor man’s data augmentation schemes and that it can also be used as a proposal distribution within a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm for models that are not analytically tractable. We illustrate both uses in the case of a censored regression model and a normal hierarchical model, with both normal and Student t distributed random effects. Although the predictive distribution formula is motivated by regular asymptotic theory, it is not necessary that the likelihood has a closed form or that it possesses a local maximum.  相似文献

This article considers Bayesian estimation methods for categorical data with misclassifications. To adjust for misclassification, double sampling schemes are utilized. Observations are represented in a contingency table categorized by error-free categorical variables and error-prone categorical variables. Posterior means of probabilities in cells are considered as estimates. In some cases, the posterior means can be calculated exactly. However,in some cases, the exact calculation may be too difficult to perform, but we can easily use the expectation-maximiza-tion(EM) algorithm to obtain approximate posterior means.  相似文献

Abstract

Handling data with the nonignorably missing mechanism is still a challenging problem in statistics. In this paper, we develop a fully Bayesian adaptive Lasso approach for quantile regression models with nonignorably missing response data, where the nonignorable missingness mechanism is specified by a logistic regression model. The proposed method extends the Bayesian Lasso by allowing different penalization parameters for different regression coefficients. Furthermore, a hybrid algorithm that combined the Gibbs sampler and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is implemented to simulate the parameters from posterior distributions, mainly including regression coefficients, shrinkage coefficients, parameters in the non-ignorable missing models. Finally, some simulation studies and a real example are used to illustrate the proposed methodology.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new class of time-varying, measure-valued stochastic processes for Bayesian nonparametric inference. The class of priors is constructed by normalising a stochastic process derived from non-Gaussian Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes and generalises the class of normalised random measures with independent increments from static problems. Some properties of the normalised measure are investigated. A particle filter and MCMC schemes are described for inference. The methods are applied to an example in the modelling of financial data.  相似文献

The authors propose a new type of scan statistic to test for the presence of space‐time clusters in point processes data, when the goal is to identify and evaluate the statistical significance of localized clusters. Their method is based only on point patterns for cases; it does not require any specific knowledge of the underlying population. The authors propose to scan the three‐dimensional space with a score test statistic under the null hypothesis that the underlying point process is an inhomogeneous Poisson point process with space and time separable intensity. The alternative is that there are one or more localized space‐time clusters. Their method has been implemented in a computationally efficient way so that it can be applied routinely. They illustrate their method with space‐time crime data from Belo Horizonte, a Brazilian city, in addition to presenting a Monte Carlo study to analyze the power of their new test.  相似文献

A model for an inhomogeneous Poisson process with high intensity near the edges of a Voronoi tessellation in 2D or 3D is proposed. The model is analysed in a Bayesian setting with priors on nuclei of the Voronoi tessellation and other model parameters. An MCMC algorithm is constructed to sample from the posterior, which contains information about the unobserved Voronoi tessellation and the model parameters. A major element of the MCMC algorithm is the reconstruction of the Voronoi tessellation after a proposed local change of the tessellation. A simulation study and examples of applications from biology (animal territories) and material science (alumina grain structure) are presented.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with Bayesian estimation and prediction in the context of start-up demonstration tests in which rejection of a unit is possible when a pre-specified number of failures is observed prior to obtaining the number of consecutive successes required for acceptance of the unit. A method for implementing Bayesian inference on the probability of success is developed for use when the test result of each start-up is not reported or even recorded, and only the number of trials until termination of the testing is available. Some errors in the related literature on the Bayesian analysis of start-up demonstration tests are corrected. The method developed in this paper is a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method incorporating data augmentation, and it additionally enables Bayesian posterior inference on the number of failures given the number of start-up trials until termination to be made, along with Bayesian predictive inferences on the number of start-up trials and the number of failures until termination for any future run of the start-up demonstration test. An illustrative example is also included.  相似文献

This paper considers the estimation and prediction problems when lifetimes are Pareto-distributed and are collected under Type II progressive censoring with random removals, where the number of units removed at each failure time follows a Binomial distribution. The analysis is carried out within the Bayesian context.  相似文献

The lasso is a popular technique of simultaneous estimation and variable selection in many research areas. The marginal posterior mode of the regression coefficients is equivalent to estimates given by the non-Bayesian lasso when the regression coefficients have independent Laplace priors. Because of its flexibility of statistical inferences, the Bayesian approach is attracting a growing body of research in recent years. Current approaches are primarily to either do a fully Bayesian analysis using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm or use Monte Carlo expectation maximization (MCEM) methods with an MCMC algorithm in each E-step. However, MCMC-based Bayesian method has much computational burden and slow convergence. Tan et al. [An efficient MCEM algorithm for fitting generalized linear mixed models for correlated binary data. J Stat Comput Simul. 2007;77:929–943] proposed a non-iterative sampling approach, the inverse Bayes formula (IBF) sampler, for computing posteriors of a hierarchical model in the structure of MCEM. Motivated by their paper, we develop this IBF sampler in the structure of MCEM to give the marginal posterior mode of the regression coefficients for the Bayesian lasso, by adjusting the weights of importance sampling, when the full conditional distribution is not explicit. Simulation experiments show that the computational time is much reduced with our method based on the expectation maximization algorithm and our algorithms and our methods behave comparably with other Bayesian lasso methods not only in prediction accuracy but also in variable selection accuracy and even better especially when the sample size is relatively large.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A new model for time series with a specific oscillation pattern is proposed. The model consists of a hidden phase process controlling the speed of polling and a nonparametric curve characterizing the pattern, leading together to a generalized state space model. Identifiability of the model is proved and a method for statistical inference based on a particle smoother and a nonparametric EM algorithm is developed. In particular, the oscillation pattern and the unobserved phase process are estimated. The proposed algorithms are computationally efficient and their performance is assessed through simulations and an application to human electrocardiogram recordings.  相似文献

We develop Bayesian procedures to make inference about parameters of a statistical design with autocorrelated error terms. Modelling treatment effects can be complex in the presence of other factors such as time; for example in longitudinal data. In this paper, Markov chain Monte Carlo methods (MCMC), the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm and Gibbs sampler are used to facilitate the Bayesian analysis of real life data when the error structure can be expressed as an autoregressive model of order p. We illustrate our analysis with real data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Dirichlet-process-based non-parametric Bayesian inference is developed for a Y-linked two-sex branching process with blind choice. This stochastic model is suitable for analysing the evolution of the number of carriers of two alleles of a Y-linked gene in a two-sex monogamous population where each female chooses her partner from among the male population without caring about his type (i.e. the allele he carries). The only data assumed to be available are the total number of females and males (regardless of their types) up to some generation and the numbers of each type of male in the last generation. A simulation method which is based on a Dirichlet process and a Gibbs sampler is developed to estimate the posterior distributions of the model's main parameters. Finally, the computational efficiency of the algorithm is illustrated with example simulations and an application to real data.  相似文献

In this paper the issue of making inferences with misclassified data from a noisy multinomial process is addressed. A Bayesian model for making inferences about the proportions and the noise parameters is developed. The problem is reformulated in a more tractable form by introducing auxiliary or latent random vectors. This allows for an easy-to-implement Gibbs sampling-based algorithm to generate samples from the distributions of interest. An illustrative example related to elections is also presented.  相似文献

Two-step estimation for inhomogeneous spatial point processes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary.  The paper is concerned with parameter estimation for inhomogeneous spatial point processes with a regression model for the intensity function and tractable second-order properties ( K -function). Regression parameters are estimated by using a Poisson likelihood score estimating function and in the second step minimum contrast estimation is applied for the residual clustering parameters. Asymptotic normality of parameter estimates is established under certain mixing conditions and we exemplify how the results may be applied in ecological studies of rainforests.  相似文献
