Nonlinear heteroscedastic models are widely used in econometrics and statistical applications. We derive matrix formulae for the second-order biases of the maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters in the mean and variance response which generalize previous results by Cook et al. This study develops a new bias-corrected estimator for the fixed-effects dynamic panel data model and derives its limiting distribution for finite number of time periods, T, and large number of cross-section units, N. The bias-corrected estimator is derived as a bias correction of the least squares dummy variable (within) estimator. It does not share some of the drawbacks of recently developed instrumental variables and generalized method-of-moments estimators and is relatively easy to compute. Monte Carlo experiments provide evidence that the bias-corrected estimator performs well even in small samples. The proposed technique is applied in an empirical analysis of unemployment dynamics at the U.S. state level for the 1991–2000 period.  相似文献

This article addresses the problem of estimating the population mean in stratified random sampling using the information of an auxiliary variable. A class of estimators for population mean is defined with its properties under large sample approximation. In particular, various classes of estimators are identified as particular member of the suggested class. It has been shown that the proposed class of estimators is better than usual unbiased estimator, usual combined ratio estimator, usual product estimator, usual regression estimator and Koyuncu and Kadilar (2009 Koyuncu, N., Kadilar, C. We provide three new results concerning quasi-maximum likelihood (QML) estimators in generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic in mean (GARCH-M) models. We first show that, depending on the functional form that we impose in the mean equation, the properties of the model may change and the conditional variance parameter space may be restricted, in contrast to the theory of traditional GARCH processes. Second, we also present a new test for GARCH effects in the GARCH-M context which is simpler to implement than alternative procedures such as in Beg et al. (2001 Beg , R. , Silvapulle , M. , Silvapulle , P. ( 2001 ). Tests against inequality constraints when some nuisance parameters are present only under the alternative: test of ARCH in ARCH-M models . We propose a new way of dealing with parameters that are not identified by creating composites of parameters that are identified. We propose separate ratio estimators for population variance in stratified random sampling. We obtain mean square error equations and compare proposed estimators about efficiency with each other. By these comparisons, we find the conditions which make proposed estimators more efficient than others. It has been shown that proposed classes of estimators are more efficient than usual unbiased estimator. We find that separate ratio estimators are more efficient than combined ratio estimators for population variance. The theoretical results are supported by a numerical illustration with original data. A simulation study is also carried out to investigate empirical performance of estimators.  相似文献

This paper addresses extended quasi-likelihood models where both the mean and the dispersion parameters vary across observations in a parameterized fashion. We derive formulae for the second-order biases of the maximum quasi-likelihood estimators of all parameters in these models. The estimation of the finite population mean in successive occasions is investigated with calibration estimators in this article. We propose several estimators based on calibration techniques with arbitrary sampling design in each of the occasions. Asymptotic variance formulaes are derived for the proposed estimators. In this article, a chain ratio-product type exponential estimator is proposed for estimating finite population mean in stratified random sampling with two auxiliary variables under double sampling design. Theoretical and empirical results show that the proposed estimator is more efficient than the existing estimators, i.e., usual stratified random sample mean estimator, Chand (1975) chain ratio estimator, Choudhary and Singh (2012) estimator, chain ratio-product-type estimator, Sahoo et al. This article reviews semiparametric estimators for limited dependent variable (LDV) models with endogenous regressors, where nonlinearity and nonseparability pose difficulties. We first introduce six main approaches in the linear equation system literature to handle endogenous regressors with linear projections: (i) ‘substitution’ replacing the endogenous regressors with their projected versions on the system exogenous regressors x, (ii) instrumental variable estimator (IVE) based on E{(error) × x} = 0, (iii) ‘model-projection’ turning the original model into a model in terms of only x-projected variables, (iv) ‘system reduced form (RF)’ finding RF parameters first and then the structural form (SF) parameters, (v) ‘artificial instrumental regressor’ using instruments as artificial regressors with zero coefficients, and (vi) ‘control function’ adding an extra term as a regressor to control for the endogeneity source. We then check if these approaches are applicable to LDV models using conditional mean/quantiles instead of linear projection. The six approaches provide a convenient forum on which semiparametric estimators in the literature can be categorized, although there are a few exceptions. The pros and cons of the approaches are discussed, and a small-scale simulation study is provided for some reviewed estimators.  相似文献

Numerous optimization problems arise in survey designs. The problem of obtaining an optimal (or near optimal) sampling design can be formulated and solved as a mathematical programming problem. In multivariate stratified sample surveys usually it is not possible to use the individual optimum allocations for sample sizes to various strata for one reason or another. In such situations some criterion is needed to work out an allocation which is optimum for all characteristics in some sense. Such an allocation may be called an optimum compromise allocation. This paper examines the problem of determining an optimum compromise allocation in multivariate stratified random sampling, when the population means of several characteristics are to be estimated. Formulating the problem of allocation as an all integer nonlinear programming problem, the paper develops a solution procedure using a dynamic programming technique. The compromise allocation discussed is optimal in the sense that it minimizes a weighted sum of the sampling variances of the estimates of the population means of various characteristics under study. A numerical example illustrates the solution procedure and shows how it compares with Cochran's average allocation and proportional allocation.  相似文献

A general family of estimators, which use the information of two auxiliary variables in the stratified random sampling, is proposed to estimate the population mean of the variable under study. Under stratified random sampling without replacement scheme, the expressions of bias and mean square error (MSE) up to the first- and second-order approximations are derived. This article considers estimation of the unknown linear index coefficients of a model in which a number of nonparametrically identified reduced form parameters are assumed to be smooth and invertible function of one or more linear indices. The results extend the previous literature by allowing the number of reduced form parameters to exceed the number of indices (i.e., the indices are “overdetermined” by the reduced form parameters. The estimator of the unknown index coefficients (up to scale) is the eigenvector of a matrix (defined in terms of a first-step nonparametric estimator of the reduced form parameters) corresponding to its smallest (in magnitude) eigenvalue. Under suitable conditions, the proposed estimator is shown to be root-n-consistent and asymptotically normal, and under additional restrictions an efficient choice of a “weight matrix” is derived in the overdetermined case.  相似文献

目前,捕获再捕获抽样已广泛应用于生物科学、社会科学、生命科学和医学的调查研究中。为此,对捕获再捕获抽样的最常用的Lincoln-Petersen估计量和Chapman估计量进行模拟比较,提出新的有偏估计量,其偏差介于上述两个估计量之间。理论和模拟结果显示:新估计量有时优于其它两个估计量;在实际应用中,当上述两个估计量较难取舍时,新估计量可以作为一个更好的选择。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper we compare through Monte Carlo simulations the finite sample properties of estimators of the fractional differencing parameter, d. This involves frequency domain, time domain, and wavelet based approaches, and we consider both parametric and semiparametric estimation methods. The estimators are briefly introduced and compared, and the criteria adopted for measuring finite sample performance are bias and root mean squared error. Most importantly, the simulations reveal that (1) the frequency domain maximum likelihood procedure is superior to the time domain parametric methods, (2) all the estimators are fairly robust to conditionally heteroscedastic errors, (3) the local polynomial Whittle and bias-reduced log-periodogram regression estimators are shown to be more robust to short-run dynamics than other semiparametric (frequency domain and wavelet) estimators and in some cases even outperform the time domain parametric methods, and (4) without sufficient trimming of scales the wavelet-based estimators are heavily biased.  相似文献
