Campaign to Prevent Breast Cancer Launched in Beijing,Tianjin, Sichuan

To promote healthy living and to raise women＇s awareness of the importance of improving their health, the Women＇s Development Department of the All- China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） launched the long-distance-run campaign, entitled ＂running for health and beauty,＂ in late October. The event, which was held in Beijing, Tianjin Municipality （in North China） and Sichuan Province （in Southwest China）, was also intended to promote the implementation of the cancer-screening project. Thousands of women, who wore pink T-shirts, participated.     

“我的第一个书包”公益活动在京启动

When the new semester started, 10,000 poverty- stricken, first-time pupils, from 128 schools in 14 provinces or municipalities, were given a meaningful present-- their first schoolbag. The program, entitled ＂My First Schoolbag,＂ was launched on September 1 in Beijing Zhiquan School, a facility for the children of migrant workers. The program was sponsored by the China Children and Teenager Fund （CCTF） and CapitaMalls Asia （China）. Some 10,000 schoolbags and stationery items were donated by CapitaMalls Asia （China）, through CCTF, to Grade 1 students, most of whom were left-behind children, poverty- stricken children or children of migrant workers attending schools in Beijing, Chongqing, or one of 12 provinces. Fan Jiying, Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and Vice-Chairperson of CCTF, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

Ten Chinese women were named ＂Models of the Year＂ during an annual awards ceremony on December 9, 2013, in Beijing. The Women Media Awards ceremony was sponsored by lady. 163.com and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women （UN- Women）. It was the first event of its kind in China, which has made a commitment to the promotion of gender equality and women＇s progress in various sectors.

The Global Summit of Women （GSW）, considered ＂The Davos for Women.＂ under this year＇s theme Women at the Forefront of Change, opened at the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing, on May 20. More than L000 government officials, business executives and NGO leaders from 80 countries and regions attended. The event was the largest in the Summit＇s 20-year historY.

The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and the National Bureau of Statistics on September 26 launched tile Third Survey on Chinese Women＇s Sccial Status. The survey was launched in Beijing. The 120 people who attended the news con ference to launch the survey included experts, liaison officers and heads of provincial-level women＇s federations. They discussed the planning for the survey, the design of the questionnaire and quality
control issues.

Founded in 1416, the first-known Bianyifang restaurant was located in Mishi Hutong, Caishikou （now in western Beijing＇s Xuanwu District）. The restaurant offered crispy and tasty roast duck （kao ya） and spring chicken （tongzi ji）. Both dishes were very popular with customers.

Athens Olympic Torch Relays in Beijing雅典奥运圣火在北京传递The Olympic flame cast its glow in Beijing for the first time on June 9 as a high-profile torch relay for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games was held in the Chinese capital.The olive-leaf-shaped torch was lit at 9:16 a.m. (0116 GMT) at the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People by Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing. Then it was passed from one bearer to the next on a specially marked route that passed through the city's most famous landmarks including the Heaven of Temple and the Forbidden City.A total of 148 torchbearers, aged 14 to 73, took part in the relay. The list of torchbearers was a who's who of Chinese sport, and also involved people from all walks of life.     

1996 To Readers

AT the golden season of 1995, women and guests from all over the world gathered in Beijing. The UN Fourth World Conference on Women was a complete success. The Conference approved the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action, both aiming at accelerating the implementation of the Nairobi Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women. Parlor was the result of numerous conversations with our customers, who lamented that they were missing something in Beijing＇s bar scene,＂ says Zhang, manager of Parlor. ＂They （and we） did not feel there were any bars （in style） of the ＇Great Gatsby,＇ with fine cocktails and the immersive and relaxed atmosphere.     

2014中国妇儿博览会在京举行

The China Children and Women Industry Expo, organized by the Beijing Women＇s Federation and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-council, was held July 17-20 in the China National Convention Center in Beijing. Representatives of 310 enterprises from China or other countries, including Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the United States, attended the expo.     

Historic Milestone for Global Women's Development——the UN Fourth World Conference on Women

The UN Fourth World Conference On Women (FWCW) was held from September4 to 15 1995, in Beijing. It was another United Nations grand gathering discussing women's issues after the Nairobi Conference which was held ten years ago. About 17,600 participants from 197 countries and regions engaged in meaningful discussions on women's issues. At the end of the conference, delegates reached unanimity after removing 438 different points, and adopted the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action.
