The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and China＇s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security held, in Chengdu （capital of Southwest China＇s Sichuan Province） on May 8, a conference to demonstrate and promote achievements in developing the weaving industry to help women find work and/or start a business. Shen Yueyue, Vice- Chairperson of the NPC （National People＇s Congress） Standing Committee and ACWF President, spoke during the conference. East China＇s Jiangsu Province has begun compiling the plan on children and women＇s development for the 12th Five-year Plan （2011-2015） period. Some of Jiangsu＇s cities, including Nanjing, Lianyungang and Taizhou, have some new ideas about and methods for compiling the plan. Nanjing： Demonstrating Own Characteristics The following objectives were outlined： First, bring major targets of children and women＇s development into the Outline of Nanjing＇s National Economic and Social Development Plan During the 12th Five-year Plan （2011-2015） period, and bring the children and women＇s development plan into the municipal-economic and social-development plans;

The Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security of Shanghe County （in Ji＇nan, capital of East China＇s Shandong Province） in 2013 put a lot of effort into fulfilling the targets of women＇s development, as prescribed in China＇s 12th Five- Year （2011-2015） Plan. To promote women＇s development, the bureau did the following to help women find work and/or start a business：

The Shandong Provincial Party （Communist Party of China） Committee has included work related to the protection of women and children＇s legal rights and interests in the standards for the evaluation of government organs＇ work. Officials of the Qingdao （a city in East China＇s Shandong Province） Working Committee on Children and Women recently monitored the city＇s work related to women and children, and they concluded the city had done the following during the first half of this year：

Protecting Women＇s Legal Rights, Interests
The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, on January 3, 2014, held the symposium on Protecting Women＇s Legal Rights and Interests and Doing Practical Work to Benefit Women in Beijing. Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the NPC （National People＇s Congress） Standing Committee and ACWF President, chaired the meeting. Song Xiuyan, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of ACWF, several of ACWF＇s vice- presidents, and representatives of members of ACWF＇s standing committee and executive committee, attended.     

The Lost City

Along the Aihui - Tengchong line, the dividing line between population and natural and historical geography of China, which is discovered and named by Mr. Hu Huanyong in 1935, we see that from the beginning of the long-distance trade, the penetration and dispersion of interest and power has changed the state of the city radically from its fundamental structure： cities in expansion, people in alienation. The words of Alan （Alain） from Lille is still enlightening today： ＂it is money, not Caesar that is omnipotent.＂     

儿童营养改善项目为贫困儿童送健康

The figures were alarming; in 2010, nearly 30 percent of the children under age 2 had anemia and more than 20 percent of the children under age 5 developed slower than ordinary children in poverty-stricken areas of China.
In 2012, the nutrition-improvement program （for children in poverty- stricken areas） was launched, in 100 impoverished counties in 10 provinces, by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, to improve the nutrition and physical conditioning of the regions＇ young children. Each child, between 6 months and 2 years of age, receive a nutritional package, which contains protein, vitamin and mineral supplements, every day. Officials of local women＇s federations also share nutrition and health information with the kids＇ parents.     

妇女发展

The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and the National Bureau of Statistics on September 26 launched tile Third Survey on Chinese Women＇s Sccial Status. The survey was launched in Beijing. The 120 people who attended the news con ference to launch the survey included experts, liaison officers and heads of provincial-level women＇s federations. They discussed the planning for the survey, the design of the questionnaire and quality
control issues.

Bianyifang Roast Duck
Founded in 1416, the first-known Bianyifang restaurant was located in Mishi Hutong, Caishikou （now in western Beijing＇s Xuanwu District）. The restaurant offered crispy and tasty roast duck （kao ya） and spring chicken （tongzi ji）. Both dishes were very popular with customers.     

全国妇联和联合国儿基会赴云南实地调研

Officials from the Legal Department of the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, the United Nations Children＇s Fund （UNICEF）, and the women＇s federations in Tianjin （municipality） and Hubei, Jiangsu and Yunnan provinces visited Huaning County, Yuxi, a city in Yunnan Province, on January 9, 2014. The purpose of the trip was to allow officials to see firsthand how the 12388 hotline （used to protect women＇s rights and interests） operates, and to visit local women＇s homes and various cmnmunity-based child- protection projects.

The National Working Committee on Children and Women （NWCCW） under the State Council on February 12 held the First Session of the Sixth NWCCW Conference. Daring the conference, the committee summarized its work （related to women and children） during the past year, and it outlined its work plan for this year.     

湘贵甘三省儿童幸福家园项目培训启动

The Office of the National Working Committee on Children and Women （NWCCW） under the State Council and Plan International （China） on August 13 launched, in Shaoyang, in Central China＇s Hunan Province, the training course on the project of happy homcs for children. The project is being undertaken in Hunan, Guizhou （in Southwest China） and Gansu （in Northwest China） provinces.

千里结亲情帮扶献爱心——全国妇联定点帮扶漳县成果显著

Zhangxian County, in Gansu Province （in Northwest China）, covers 2,164 square kilometers. There are 160 villages and 17 towns （townships） in the county. Since 1998, when the State Council, the Chinese Government＇s cabinet, designaled the county as one of the All-China Women＇s t,ederation （ACWF）＇s poverty-alleviation target areas, ACWF has been dedicated to promoting the area＇s economic and social development, and to helping the residents escape poverty.     

关爱儿童

Officials from the China Family Education Society （CFES） and the Department for Children, under the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, hosted social work and family education training at the Foshan Training Base （in Guangdong Province） of CFES from October 9-12. More than 70 people, from the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, women＇s federations and departments of Education from 12 provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities, participated.
