DEFEND MADRID, an antifascist song composed in 1936 toraise Chinese awareness against fascists invading then Republic of Spain and who invaded China one year later, played once again in the Chinese Revolutionary Museum in Beijing on 9 October 1996. At the invitation of Leul Gebreab, President of the National Union of Eritrean Women （NUEW）, Meng Xiaosi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF）, led a delegation of Chinese women to pay a visit to Eritrea from June 8 to 10. British Contest

THIS year's English Union International Public Speaking Competition drew to a dramatic conclusion with a young Chinese woman who had learned English in China winning first prize in front of a contingent of native speakers. Liu Xin, 21, a junior in the Foreign Languages Institute at Nanjing University, was the grand prize winner in this year's international public speaking competition held on May 17th in London. 第二届“国际女童日”呼吁关注女童权利 Plan International （China） （an international organization dedicated to helping poor Chinese children access their rights, especially to health, education, a livelihood and protection） and the Beijing Cultural Development Center for Rural Women （BCDCRW） on October 11 held a seminar to mark the Second International Day of the Girl Child. Discussed were gender issues and matters related to disaster reduction.

Invited by the president of Polish Women＇s League, a four-member delegation of Chinese women visited Poland and attended the event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Polish Women＇s League from October 18-20, 2013. The delegation, headed by Mu Hong, Director-General of the International Department of the All-China Women＇s Federation, visited grass-roots organizations of Polish Women＇s League. A. Michalak, President of Polish Women＇s League, met with the delegation. Both sides shared their opinions on improving the friendly cooperation between Chinese and Polish women. The visit helped to renew the traditional friendship between ACWF and Polish Women＇s League.     

Brief Introduction to the China Organizing Committee for the Fourth World Conference on Women

On January 28, 1991, the Chinese Government wrote to the United Nations, offering to host the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women. In March 1992, the 36th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women gratefully accepted the invitation of the Chinese government and decided to schedule the conference for September 4-15, 1995, in Beijing. The theme of the conference is to seek equality, development and peace through action. The secondary subjects include issues of employment, education and health. At that time, all the member countries of the United Nations will send the high-level gorernmental delegation to attend the conference. Meanwhile, the Non-Government Organizations Forum will be held as a subsidiary plenary to the conference. The year 1995 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the 2Oth anniversary of the UN International Women's Year and the lOth anniversary of the adoption of the Nairobi Strategy. This conference is an important event in UN women's affairs and

March 8th is International Women's Day. This day is an ideal opportunity to reflect on the progress made to advance women's equality, to assess the challenges facing women in contemporary society and to consider future steps to enhance the status of women and, of course, to celebrate the gains made in these areas. During this commemoration, the All-China Women's Federation will honor Chinese women who have made outstanding achievements. The honorees set an example, inspiring women to utilize their full potential for the good of society and to realize their own value     

全国妇联、国务院妇儿工委办公窒召开反家暴立法研讨会

The All-China Women＇s Federation （ACWF） and the National Working Committee on Children and Women （NWCCW） under the State Council plan to organize experts, who study laws and regulations, to study key and difficult issues related to the promotion of anti-domestic violence legislation. In conjunction with the 14th International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women （on November 25, 2013）, the organizations hosted a seminar to discuss anti-domestic violence legislation in Beijing. Organizers invited experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law, and the Women＇s Studies Institutes of China, to ACWF＇s headquarters to discuss issues related to the promotion of anti-domestic violence legislation.     

Looking Back to Make a New Start——The 40th Anniversary of Women of China Magazine

ON June 26, 1996, Women of China held festivities in the International Hotel of Beijing to celebrate the 40th birthday of this English monthly. Chen Muhua, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation, Lei Jieqiong, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Ma Yuzhen, Deputy Minister of the Information Office of the State Council and more than 200 female celebrities from all walks of life, as well as some foreign experts in Beijing were present at the celebration. The book is the fourth in Wang Anyi＇s non-fiction series. It includes 58 of her essays, each of which records Wang＇s memory and understanding of an individual. The book focuses on renowned celebrities, including writer Ba Jin, film director Chen Kaige, painter Chert Danqing and actor Ge You, and ordinary people, including a postman and a handicraft worker.
