妇女发展
“两癌筛查”造福广大农村妇女 Women make special contributions to social progress and human development, as they give birth to and raise their children. Therefore, it is vital that their health be protected properly. In 2009, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and China's ministries of Health and Finance implemented the cancer- screening project. Under the project, rural Chinese women can receive free screening for cervical and breast cancer (the "two cancers"). Tile project's aims are to raise awareness about the importance of healthcare and to detect the "two cancers" early so afflicted women can receive timely medical treatment.  相似文献

When I visited Beijing, I was surprised to see a bus numbered "666" driving throughout the city. I found it very unnerving; "666" is usually the sign for the devil. I never thought I'd see it out in broad daylight, much less on a bus! I'm sure that the Chinese don't see it that way; otherwise, they would have never let that number show up anywhere.  相似文献

Beijing might not be the Stockh young their s not to olin of China, where fathers proudly push trollers while trying be too obvious about showing off their fatherhoodBut that is not to say a modern Chinese dad does not participate in childrearing, Even though we are living in a culture often described as "macho," many fresh fathers are spending most of their spare time taking care of their babies. Although I have not yet met any Chinese stay-at-home dads, "stroller dad days" might not be that far ahead of us.  相似文献

忘不掉的
When lovers split up, one person might say: "Forget me." At least, that is often the scenario in novels and films. When one person asks the other to forget him/her, he/she might already be in love with a third person, or he/she might be suffering in some way and he/she doesn't want to talk about it. Whatever the reason, the other person will be hurt.  相似文献

Dongpo Meat
Su Dongpo (1037-1101), a famous literary figure of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), was fond of pork braised in brown sauce. He liked it so much that he wrote a poem about how to cook the dish. When Su took the post of Hangzhou Prefecture chief in 1089, he organized laborers to dredge the West Lake, store water and irrigate the fields. The locals, knowing that Su liked to eat meat, presented him with gifts of pork to show their gratitude for his good service. Soon, Su had so much pork that he did not know what to do with it He  相似文献

THE tickets were already sold out when I learned that the British Royal Theater was staging Othello—one of the four great Shakespearean tragedies—in early March in Beijing. A friend of mine kindly offered his ticket to me. He said he didn't understand English, and that his daughter was going to perform in a play on that same night on the same stage with the famous star Xia Yu. I knew he was just trying to make me feel better about accepting the ticket. He had already been to his daughter's performance twice. Nonetheless, I was very happy to get the ticket. As he handed it to me, he asked, "Isn't it a bit irrational to put on such a show on  相似文献

In the past few decades, his painting style has changed several times; he abandoned his successful original style and familiar subjects when he turned from realism to abstraction. Jessica Zhang believes it is time to give Beijingers a nostalgic trip, to the 1920s, through Parlor, the first Great Gatsby-style bar in Beijing. "Our initial idea for Parlor was to make it Beijing's first high-end private club. Parlor was the result of numerous conversations with our customers, who lamented that they were missing something in Beijing's bar scene," says Zhang, manager of Parlor. "They (and we) did not feel there were any bars (in style) of the 'Great Gatsby,' with fine cocktails and the immersive and relaxed atmosphere.  相似文献

Many foreigners say the Chinese language is so complicated that it is more difficult to master than it is for man to land on the moon. That is an exaggeration, but the truth is Chinese grammar is substantially different from grammar in Western languages, and as a result, foreigners fail to understand some Chinese words even though they spend a great deal of time studying them. Robert Blake, an American scholar who recently started studying Chinese, does morning exercises every day. One day,  相似文献

"Please God, make sure everyone in China doesn't jump at the same time." As a child, Jonathan Watts, author of When a Billion Chinese Jump, used to fear that China would jump, push the earth off its axis and kill everyone on the planet. Over time, he realized people only jumped individually or in small groups, and he was able to grow up without worrying about the cataclysmic event ever happening. Until one day, China did jump. In the greatest event of combined human effort, China is developing at a record- breaking rate, increasing its coal and energy consumption by 50 percent, its population by seven million a year, and its water usage by 500 billion tons. China's development is pushing the limits of its environment, and it is showing no signs of stopping. Watts realized his fears had been very real, and that one day China could indeed destroy mankind. Many other nations, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, have already exploited -- and substantially damaged -- the environment. While the West created unsustainable development, it is China that may finish off the world. Back when Western countries began developing, the environment was healthier and resources seemed abundant.  相似文献
