We deal with a general class of extreme-value regression models introduced by Barreto-Souza and Vasconcellos [Bias and skewness in a general extreme-value regression model, Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 55 (2011), pp. 1379–1393]. Our goal is to derive an adjusted likelihood ratio statistic that is approximately distributed as χ2 with a high degree of accuracy. Although the adjusted statistic requires more computational effort than its unadjusted counterpart, it is shown that the adjustment term has a simple compact form that can be easily implemented in standard statistical software. Further, we compare the finite-sample performance of the three classical tests (likelihood ratio, Wald, and score), the gradient test that has been recently proposed by Terrell [The gradient statistic, Comput. Sci. Stat. 34 (2002), pp. 206–215], and the adjusted likelihood ratio test obtained in this article. Our simulations favour the latter. Applications of our results are presented.  相似文献

Heteroscedasticity checking in regression analysis plays an important role in modelling. It is of great interest when random errors are correlated, including autocorrelated and partial autocorrelated errors. In this paper, we consider multivariate t linear regression models, and construct the score test for the case of AR(1) errors, and ARMA(s,d) errors. The asymptotic properties, including asymptotic chi-square and approximate powers under local alternatives of the score tests, are studied. Based on modified profile likelihood, the adjusted score test is also developed. The finite sample performance of the tests is investigated through Monte Carlo simulations, and also the tests are illustrated with two real data sets.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to investigate hypothesis testing in functional comparative calibration models. Wald type statistics are considered which are asymptotically distributed according to the chi-square distribution. The statistics are based on maximum likelihood, corrected score approach, and method of moment estimators of the model parameters, which are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normally distributed. Results of analytical and simulation studies seem to indicate that the Wald statistics based on the method of moment estimators and the corrected score estimators are, as expected, less efficient than the Wald type statistic based on the maximum likelihood estimators for small n. Wald statistic based on moment estimators are simpler to compute than the other Wald statistics tests and their performance improves significantly as n increases. Comparisons with an alternative F statistics proposed in the literature are also reported.  相似文献

We consider two consistent estimators for the parameters of the linear predictor in the Poisson regression model, where the covariate is measured with errors. The measurement errors are assumed to be normally distributed with known error variance σ u 2 . The SQS estimator, based on a conditional mean-variance model, takes the distribution of the latent covariate into account, and this is here assumed to be a normal distribution. The CS estimator, based on a corrected score function, does not use the distribution of the latent covariate. Nevertheless, for small σ u 2 , both estimators have identical asymptotic covariance matrices up to the order of σ u 2 . We also compare the consistent estimators to the naive estimator, which is based on replacing the latent covariate with its (erroneously) measured counterpart. The naive estimator is biased, but has a smaller covariance matrix than the consistent estimators (at least up to the order of σ u 2 ).  相似文献

The Levene test is a widely used test for detecting differences in dispersion. The modified Levene transformation using sample medians is considered in this article. After Levene's transformation the data are not normally distributed, hence, nonparametric tests may be useful. As the Wilcoxon rank sum test applied to the transformed data cannot control the type I error rate for asymmetric distributions, a permutation test based on reallocations of the original observations rather than the absolute deviations was investigated. Levene's transformation is then only an intermediate step to compute the test statistic. Such a Levene test, however, cannot control the type I error rate when the Wilcoxon statistic is used; with the Fisher–Pitman permutation test it can be extremely conservative. The Fisher–Pitman test based on reallocations of the transformed data seems to be the only acceptable nonparametric test. Simulation results indicate that this test is on average more powerful than applying the t test after Levene's transformation, even when the t test is improved by the deletion of structural zeros.  相似文献

This article investigates the confidence regions for semiparametric nonlinear reproductive dispersion models (SNRDMs), which is an extension of nonlinear regression models. Based on local linear estimate of nonparametric component and generalized profile likelihood estimate of parameter in SNRDMs, a modified geometric framework of Bates and Wattes is proposed. Within this geometric framework, we present three kinds of improved approximate confidence regions for the parameters and parameter subsets in terms of curvatures. The work extends the previous results of Hamilton et al. [in Accounting for intrinsic nonlinearity in nonlinear regression parameter inference regions, Ann. Statist. 10, pp. 386–393, 1982], Hamilton [in Confidence regions for parameter subset in nonlinear regression, Biometrika, 73, pp. 57–64, 1986], Wei [in On confidence regions of embedded models in regular parameter families (a geometric approch), Austral. This article considers a nonparametric varying coefficient regression model with longitudinal observations. The relationship between the dependent variable and the covariates is assumed to be linear at a specific time point, but the coefficients are allowed to change over time. A general formulation is used to treat mean regression, median regression, quantile regression, and robust mean regression in one setting. The local M-estimators of the unknown coefficient functions are obtained by local linear method. The asymptotic distributions of M-estimators of unknown coefficient functions at both interior and boundary points are established. Various applications of the main results, including estimating conditional quantile coefficient functions and robustifying the mean regression coefficient functions are derived. Finite sample properties of our procedures are studied through Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

The class of symmetric linear regression models has the normal linear regression model as a special case and includes several models that assume that the errors follow a symmetric distribution with longer-than-normal tails. An important member of this class is the t linear regression model, which is commonly used as an alternative to the usual normal regression model when the data contain extreme or outlying observations. In this article, we develop second-order asymptotic theory for score tests in this class of models. We obtain Bartlett-corrected score statistics for testing hypotheses on the regression and the dispersion parameters. The corrected statistics have chi-squared distributions with errors of order O(n ?3/2), n being the sample size. The corrections represent an improvement over the corresponding original Rao's score statistics, which are chi-squared distributed up to errors of order O(n ?1). Simulation results show that the corrected score tests perform much better than their uncorrected counterparts in samples of small or moderate size.  相似文献

We consider the non homogeneous gamma process as a degradation model. The hitting time of a deterministic or random level is studied here. We provide its distribution (both cdf and pdf) explicitly in the first case and in the second case when the threshold is exponentially or gamma distributed. The general case for a random threshold can be approximated by considering mixtures of Erlang distributions. Aging properties are also discussed in this article.  相似文献

The authors consider the situation of incomplete rankings in which n judges independently rank ki ∈ {2, …, t} objects. They wish to test the null hypothesis that each judge picks the ranking at random from the space of ki! permutations of the integers 1, …, ki. The statistic considered is a generalization of the Friedman test in which the ranks assigned by each judge are replaced by real‐valued functions a(j, ki), 1 ≤ jkit of the ranks. The authors define a measure of pairwise similarity between complete rankings based on such functions, and use averages of such similarities to construct measures of the level of concordance of the judges' rankings. In the complete ranking case, the resulting statistics coincide with those defined by Hájek & ?idák (1967, p. 118), and Sen (1968). These measures of similarity are extended to the situation of incomplete rankings. A statistic is derived in this more general situation and its properties are investigated.  相似文献

This article discusses the construction and efficiency properties of consistent estimators of regression parameters under replicated ultrastructural model with not necessarily normally distributed measurement errors. The variances of measurement errors associated with the study and explanatory variables are estimated from the replicated sample observations and are used for the consistent estimation of regression parameters. The asymptotic efficiency properties of the estimators are derived and analysed. The finite sample performance of the estimators is empirically studied through a Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

This article discusses the estimation of the parameter function for a functional linear regression model under heavy-tailed errors' distributions and in the presence of outliers. Standard approaches of reducing the high dimensionality, which is inherent in functional data, are considered. After reducing the functional model to a standard multiple linear regression model, a weighted rank-based procedure is carried out to estimate the regression parameters. A Monte Carlo simulation and a real-world example are used to show the performance of the proposed estimator and a comparison made with the least-squares and least absolute deviation estimators.  相似文献

A class of “optimal”U-statistics type nonparametric test statistics is proposed for the one-sample location problem by considering a kernel depending on a constant a and all possible (distinct) subsamples of size two from a sample of n independent and identically distributed observations. The “optimal” choice of a is determined by the underlying distribution. The proposed class includes the Sign and the modified Wilcoxon signed-rank statistics as special cases. It is shown that any “optimal” member of the class performs better in terms of Pitman efficiency relative to the Sign and Wilcoxon-signed rank statistics. The effect of deviation of chosen a from the “optimal” a on Pitman efficiency is also examined. A Hodges-Lehmann type point estimator of the location parameter corresponding to the proposed “optimal” test-statistics is also defined and studied in this paper.  相似文献

This article considers Robins's marginal and nested structural models in the cross‐sectional setting and develops likelihood and regression estimators. First, a nonparametric likelihood method is proposed by retaining a finite subset of all inherent and modelling constraints on the joint distributions of potential outcomes and covariates under a correctly specified propensity score model. A profile likelihood is derived by maximizing the nonparametric likelihood over these joint distributions subject to the retained constraints. The maximum likelihood estimator is intrinsically efficient based on the retained constraints and weakly locally efficient. Second, two regression estimators, named hat and tilde, are derived as first‐order approximations to the likelihood estimator under the propensity score model. The tilde regression estimator is intrinsically and weakly locally efficient and doubly robust. The methods are illustrated by data analysis for an observational study on right heart catheterization. Functional regression functions, with explanatory variables taking values in some abstract function space, have been studied extensively. In this article, we aim to investigate the multivariate functional regression function, and propose a nonparametric estimator for the multivariate case. By applying some properties of U-statistics, some asymptotic distributions of such estimator are obtained under different cases.  相似文献

Dynamic regression models are widely used because they express and model the behaviour of a system over time. In this article, two dynamic regression models, the distributed lag (DL) model and the autoregressive distributed lag model, are evaluated focusing on their lag lengths. From a classical statistics point of view, there are various methods to determine the number of lags, but none of them are the best in all situations. This is a serious issue since wrong choices will provide bad estimates for the effects of the regressors on the response variable. We present an alternative for the aforementioned problems by considering a Bayesian approach. The posterior distributions of the numbers of lags are derived under an improper prior for the model parameters. The fractional Bayes factor technique [A. O'Hagan, Fractional Bayes factors for model comparison (with discussion), J. R. Statist. Soc. B 57 (1995), pp. 99–138] is used to handle the indeterminacy in the likelihood function caused by the improper prior. The zero-one loss function is used to penalize wrong decisions. A naive method using the specified maximum number of DLs is also presented. The proposed and the naive methods are verified using simulation data. The results are promising for the method we proposed. An illustrative example with a real data set is provided.  相似文献

Two characterizations of the uniform distribution on a suitable compact space are proved. These characterizations are applied to a number of particular examples of which the most interesting is the following: if X , Y and Z are independent n-vectors whose components are independent and identically distributed within a vector, then the pairwise independence of the product moment correlation coefficients between X , Y and Z implies that these vectors are normally distributed.  相似文献

Let X 1,X 2,…,X N be successive independent random P-vectors drawn from some continuous diagonally symmetric distribution. The problem of detecting a shift in level of the sequence at an unknown time point M, ≦MN-1, is studied. Test statistics based on multivariate analogues of the rank statistics derived by BHATTACHARYYA and JOHNSON (1888) are proposed, and their asymptotic properties are investigated.  相似文献

This article considers a circular regression model for clustered data, where both the cluster effects and the regression errors have von Mises distributions. It involves β, a vector of parameters for the fixed effects, and two concentration parameters for the error distribution. A measure of intra‐cluster circular correlation and a predictor for an unobserved cluster random effect are studied. Preliminary estimators for the vector β and the two concentration parameters are proposed, and their performance is compared with that of the maximum likelihood estimators in a simulation study. A numerical example investigating the factors impacting the orientation taken by a sand hopper when released is presented. The importance of the normal distribution for fitting continuous data is well known. However, in many practical situations data distribution departs from normality. For example, the sample skewness and the sample kurtosis are far away from 0 and 3, respectively, which are nice properties of normal distributions. So, it is important to have formal tests of normality against any alternative. D'Agostino et al. [A suggestion for using powerful and informative tests of normality, Am. Statist. 44 (1990), pp. 316–321] review four procedures Z 2(g 1), Z 2(g 2), D and K 2 for testing departure from normality. The first two of these procedures are tests of normality against departure due to skewness and kurtosis, respectively. The other two tests are omnibus tests. An alternative to the normal distribution is a class of skew-normal distributions (see [A. Azzalini, A class of distributions which includes the normal ones, Scand. J. Statist. 12 (1985), pp. 171–178]). In this paper, we obtain a score test (W) and a likelihood ratio test (LR) of goodness of fit of the normal regression model against the skew-normal family of regression models. It turns out that the score test is based on the sample skewness and is of very simple form. The performance of these six procedures, in terms of size and power, are compared using simulations. The level properties of the three statistics LR, W and Z 2(g 1) are similar and close to the nominal level for moderate to large sample sizes. Also, their power properties are similar for small departure from normality due to skewness (γ1≤0.4). Of these, the score test statistic has a very simple form and computationally much simpler than the other two statistics. The LR statistic, in general, has highest power, although it is computationally much complex as it requires estimates of the parameters under the normal model as well as those under the skew-normal model. So, the score test may be used to test for normality against small departure from normality due to skewness. Otherwise, the likelihood ratio statistic LR should be used as it detects general departure from normality (due to both skewness and kurtosis) with, in general, largest power.  相似文献
