Comparison of Four New General Classes of Search Designs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A factor screening experiment identifies a few important factors from a large list of factors that potentially influence the response. If a list consists of m factors each at three levels, a design is a subset of all possible 3 m runs. This paper considers the problem of finding designs with small numbers of runs, using the search linear model introduced in Srivastava (1975). The paper presents four new general classes of these 'search designs', each with 2 m −1 runs, which permit, at most, two important factors out of m factors to be searched for and identified. The paper compares the designs for 4 ≤ m ≤ 10, using arithmetic and geometric means of the determinants, traces and maximum characteristic roots of particular matrices. Two of the designs are found to be superior in all six criteria studied. The four designs are identical for m = 3 and this design is an optimal design in the class of all search designs under the six criteria. The four designs are also identical for m = 4 under some row and column permutations.  相似文献

Efforts have been made in the literature to find optimal single arrays which work best for the robust parameter experiments. However, examples show that in many cases the optimal designs obtained by the existing criteria cloud not attain the maximum number of clear interested effects for robust parameter experiments. In this paper, through a similar way of Zhang et al. (2008) (ZLZA, in short), an aliasing pattern to measure the confounding between the interested effects and other effects for the case of robust parameter designs is introduced. A new criterion for selecting optimal two-level regular single arrays is proposed. In the consideration of the criterion, two rank-orders of effects are suggested: one is based on the interest of experimenters and the other is under the usual effect hierarchy principle. ABSTRACT

The early stages of many real-life experiments involve a large number of factors among which only a few factors are active. Unfortunately, the optimal full-dimensional designs of those early stages may have bad low-dimensional projections and the experimenters do not know which factors turn out to be important before conducting the experiment. Therefore, designs with good projections are desirable for factor screening. In this regard, significant questions are arising such as whether the optimal full-dimensional designs have good projections onto low dimensions? How experimenters can measure the goodness of a full-dimensional design by focusing on all of its projections?, and are there linkages between the optimality of a full-dimensional design and the optimality of its projections? Through theoretical justifications, this paper tries to provide answers to these interesting questions by investigating the construction of optimal (average) projection designs for screening either nominal or quantitative factors. The main results show that: based on the aberration and orthogonality criteria the full-dimensional design is optimal if and only if it is optimal projection design; the full-dimensional design is optimal via the aberration and orthogonality if and only if it is uniform projection design; there is no guarantee that a uniform full-dimensional design is optimal projection design via any criterion; the projection design is optimal via the aberration, orthogonality and uniformity criteria if it is optimal via any criterion of them; and the saturated orthogonal designs have the same average projection performance.  相似文献

There has been much recent interest in supersaturated designs and their application in factor screening experiments. Supersaturated designs have mainly been constructed by using the E ( s 2)-optimality criterion originally proposed by Booth and Cox in 1962. However, until now E ( s 2)-optimal designs have only been established with certainty for n experimental runs when the number of factors m is a multiple of n-1 , and in adjacent cases where m = q ( n -1) + r (| r | 2, q an integer). A method of constructing E ( s 2)-optimal designs is presented which allows a reasonably complete solution to be found for various numbers of runs n including n ,=8 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, 40, 48, 64.  相似文献

Minimization of the maximum and average variance of the difference between estimated responses are taken as design criteria for univariate polynomial regression models. An optimal design under the first criterion is derived for the second-order model and a class of designs nearly optimal under the second criterion is obtained for the general polynomial models.  相似文献

Several estimators of squared prediction error have been suggested for use in model and bandwidth selection problems. Among these are cross-validation, generalized cross-validation and a number of related techniques based on the residual sum of squares. For many situations with squared error loss, e.g. nonparametric smoothing, these estimators have been shown to be asymptotically optimal in the sense that in large samples the estimator minimizing the selection criterion also minimizes squared error loss. However, cross-validation is known not to be asymptotically optimal for some `easy' location problems. We consider selection criteria based on estimators of squared prediction risk for choosing between location estimators. We show that criteria based on adjusted residual sum of squares are not asymptotically optimal for choosing between asymptotically normal location estimators that converge at rate n 1/2but are when the rate of convergence is slower. We also show that leave-one-out cross-validation is not asymptotically optimal for choosing between √ n -differentiable statistics but leave- d -out cross-validation is optimal when d ∞ at the appropriate rate.  相似文献

Summary. We obtain the residual information criterion RIC, a selection criterion based on the residual log-likelihood, for regression models including classical regression models, Box–Cox transformation models, weighted regression models and regression models with autoregressive moving average errors. We show that RIC is a consistent criterion, and that simulation studies for each of the four models indicate that RIC provides better model order choices than the Akaike information criterion, corrected Akaike information criterion, final prediction error, C p and R adj2, except when the sample size is small and the signal-to-noise ratio is weak. In this case, none of the criteria performs well. Monte Carlo results also show that RIC is superior to the consistent Bayesian information criterion BIC when the signal-to-noise ratio is not weak, and it is comparable with BIC when the signal-to-noise ratio is weak and the sample size is large.  相似文献

The D‐optimal minimax criterion is proposed to construct fractional factorial designs. The resulting designs are very efficient, and robust against misspecification of the effects in the linear model. The criterion was first proposed by Wilmut & Zhou (2011); their work is limited to two‐level factorial designs, however. In this paper we extend this criterion to designs with factors having any levels (including mixed levels) and explore several important properties of this criterion. Theoretical results are obtained for construction of fractional factorial designs in general. This minimax criterion is not only scale invariant, but also invariant under level permutations. Moreover, it can be applied to any run size. This is an advantage over some other existing criteria. A new design criterion based on the condition number of an information matrix is proposed to construct optimal designs for linear models, and the resulting designs are called K-optimal designs. The relationship between exact and asymptotic K-optimal designs is derived. Since it is usually hard to find exact optimal designs analytically, we apply a simulated annealing algorithm to compute K-optimal design points on continuous design spaces. Specific issues are addressed to make the algorithm effective. Through exact designs, we can examine some properties of the K-optimal designs such as symmetry and the number of support points. Examples and results are given for polynomial regression models and linear models for fractional factorial experiments. In addition, K-optimal designs are compared with A-optimal and D-optimal designs for polynomial regression models, showing that K-optimal designs are quite similar to A-optimal designs.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a new mechanism for finding the optimal foldover plans (OFPs) which is based on the uniformity criteria measured by Lee discrepancy, wrap-around L2-discrepancy, and centered L2-discrepancy. For three-level fractional factorials as the original designs, general foldover plans and combined designs are defined, and lower bounds of these three discrepancies of combined designs under general foldover plans are also obtained, which can be used as benchmarks for searching OFPs. Illustrative examples with a comparison study between the foldover plans under these discrepancies are provided. Our results provide a theoretical justification for OFPs of three-level designs in terms of uniformity criteria.  相似文献

We introduce new criteria for model discrimination and use these and existing criteria to evaluate standard orthogonal designs. We show that the capability of orthogonal designs for model discrimination is surprisingly varied. In fact, for specified sample sizes, number of factors, and model spaces, many orthogonal designs are not model discriminating by the definition given in this paper, while others in the same class of orthogonal designs are. We also use these criteria to construct optimal two-level model-discriminating designs for screening experiments. The efficacy of these designs is studied, both in terms of estimation efficiency and discrimination success. Simulation studies indicate that the constructed designs result in substantively higher likelihoods of identifying the correct model.  相似文献

Summary.  Because highly correlated data arise from many scientific fields, we investigate parameter estimation in a semiparametric regression model with diverging number of predictors that are highly correlated. For this, we first develop a distribution-weighted least squares estimator that can recover directions in the central subspace, then use the distribution-weighted least squares estimator as a seed vector and project it onto a Krylov space by partial least squares to avoid computing the inverse of the covariance of predictors. Thus, distrbution-weighted partial least squares can handle the cases with high dimensional and highly correlated predictors. Furthermore, we also suggest an iterative algorithm for obtaining a better initial value before implementing partial least squares. For theoretical investigation, we obtain strong consistency and asymptotic normality when the dimension p of predictors is of convergence rate O { n 1/2/ log ( n )} and o ( n 1/3) respectively where n is the sample size. When there are no other constraints on the covariance of predictors, the rates n 1/2 and n 1/3 are optimal. We also propose a Bayesian information criterion type of criterion to estimate the dimension of the Krylov space in the partial least squares procedure. Illustrative examples with a real data set and comprehensive simulations demonstrate that the method is robust to non-ellipticity and works well even in 'small n –large p ' problems.  相似文献

CVX‐based numerical algorithms are widely and freely available for solving convex optimization problems but their applications to solve optimal design problems are limited. Using the CVX programs in MATLAB, we demonstrate their utility and flexibility over traditional algorithms in statistics for finding different types of optimal approximate designs under a convex criterion for nonlinear models. They are generally fast and easy to implement for any model and any convex optimality criterion. We derive theoretical properties of the algorithms and use them to generate new A‐, c‐, D‐ and E‐optimal designs for various nonlinear models, including multi‐stage and multi‐objective optimal designs. We report properties of the optimal designs and provide sample CVX program codes for some of our examples that users can amend to find tailored optimal designs for their problems. The computer construction of optimal or near‐optimal experimental designs is common in practice. Search procedures are often based on the non‐zero eigenvalues of the information matrix of the design. Minimising the average of the pairwise treatment variances can also be used as a search criterion. For equal treatment replication these approaches are equivalent to maximising the harmonic mean of the design's canonical efficiency factors, but differ when treatments are unequally replicated. This paper investigates the extent of these differences and discusses some apparent inconsistencies previously observed when comparing the optimality of equally and unequally replicated designs.  相似文献

In this article, we systematically study the optimal truncated group sequential test on binomial proportions. Through analysis of the cost structure, average test cost is introduced as a new optimality criterion. According to the new criterion, the optimal tests on different design parameters including the boundaries, success discriminant value, stage sample vector, stage size, and the maximum sample size are defined. Since the computation time in finding optimal designs by exhaustive search is intolerably long, group sequential sample space sorting method and procedures are developed to find the near-optimal ones. In comparison with the international standard ISO2859-1, the truncated group sequential designs proposed in this article can reduce the average test costs around 20%.  相似文献

Existing projection designs (e.g. maximum projection designs) attempt to achieve good space-filling properties in all projections. However, when using a Gaussian process (GP), model-based design criteria such as the entropy criterion is more appropriate. We employ the entropy criterion averaged over a set of projections, called expected entropy criterion (EEC), to generate projection designs. We show that maximum EEC designs are invariant to monotonic transformations of the response, i.e. they are optimal for a wide class of stochastic process models. We also demonstrate that transformation of each column of a Latin hypercube design (LHD) based on a monotonic function can substantially improve the EEC. Two types of input transformations are considered: a quantile function of a symmetric Beta distribution chosen to optimize the EEC, and a nonparametric transformation corresponding to the quantile function of a symmetric density chosen to optimize the EEC. Numerical studies show that the proposed transformations of the LHD are efficient and effective for building robust maximum EEC designs. These designs give projections with markedly higher entropies and lower maximum prediction variances (MPV''s) at the cost of small increases in average prediction variances (APV''s) compared to state-of-the-art space-filling designs over wide ranges of covariance parameter values.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the problem of determining block designs which are optimal under type 1 optimality criteria within various classes of designs having υ treatments arranged in b blocks of size k. The solutions to two optimization problems are given which are related to a general result obtained by Cheng (1978) and which are useful in this investigation. As one application of the solutions obtained, the definition of a regular graph design given in Mitchell and John (1977) is extended to that of a semi-regular graph design and some sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a semi-regular graph design which is optimal under a given type 1 criterion. A result is also given which shows how the sufficient conditions derived can be used to establish the optimality under a specific type 1 criterion of some particular types of semi- regular graph designs having both equal and unequal numbers of replicates. Finally,some sufficient conditions are obtained for the dual of an A- or D-optimal design to be A- or D-optimal within an appropriate class of dual designs.  相似文献

Summary: In nonlinear statistical models, standard optimality functions for experimental designs depend on the unknown parameters of the model. An appealing and robust concept for choosing a design is the minimax criterion. However, so far, minimax optimal designs have been calculated efficiently under various restrictive conditions only. We extend an iterative relaxation scheme originally proposed by Shimizu and Aiyoshi (1980) and prove its convergence under very general assumptions which cover a variety of situations considered in experimental design. Application to different specific design criteria is discussed and issues of practical implementation are addressed. A supersaturated design (SSD) is a factorial design in which the degrees of freedom for all its main effects exceed the total number of distinct factorial level-combinations (runs) of the design. Designs with quantitative factors, in which level permutation within one or more factors could result in different geometrical structures, are very different from designs with nominal ones which have been treated as traditional designs. In this paper, a new criterion is proposed for SSDs with quantitative factors. Comparison and analysis for this new criterion are made. It is shown that the proposed criterion has a high efficiency in discriminating geometrically nonisomorphic designs and an advantage in computation.  相似文献
