In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the scale parameter of the generalized exponential (GE) distribution based on a random censoring model. We assume the censoring distribution also follows a GE distribution. Since the estimator does not provide an explicit solution, we propose a simple method of deriving an explicit estimator by approximating the likelihood function. In order to compare the performance of the estimators, Monte Carlo simulation is conducted. The results show that the MLE and the approximate MLE are almost identical in terms of bias and variance.  相似文献

An EM algorithm (Dempster et al., 1977) is derived for the estimation of parameters of the truncated bivariate Poisson distribution with zeros rnissing from both margins. In industrial life tests, reliability analysis and clinical trials, the type-II progressive censoring methodology, which allows for random removals of the remaining survival units at each failure time, has become quite popular for analyzing lifetime data. Parameter estimation under progressively type-II censored samples for many common lifetime distributions has been investigated extensively. However, how to estimate unknown parameters of the mixed distribution models under progressive type-II censoring schemes is still a challenging and interesting problem. Based on progressively type-II censored samples, this paper addresses the estimation problem of mixed generalized exponential distributions. In addition, it is observed that the maximum-likelihood estimates (MLEs) cannot be easily obtained in closed form due to the complexity of the likelihood function. Thus, we make good use of the expectation-maximization algorithm to obtain the MLEs. Finally, some simulations are implemented in order to show the performance of the proposed method under finite samples and a case analysis is illustrated.  相似文献

A generalized Type-I progressive hybrid censoring scheme was proposed recently to overcome the limitations of the progressive hybrid censoring scheme. In this article, we provide a robust Bayesian method to estimate the unknown parameters of the two-parameter exponential distribution of a generalized Type-I progressive hybrid censored sample. For each parameter, we derive the marginal posterior density functions and the corresponding Bayesian estimators under the squared error loss function. To assess the proposed method, Monte Carlo simulations are performed using a real dataset.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a bivariate discrete generalized exponential distribution, whose marginals are discrete generalized exponential distribution as proposed by Nekoukhou, Alamatsaz and Bidram [Discrete generalized exponential distribution of a second type. Statistics. 2013;47:876–887]. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution is a very flexible distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution can be obtained as a special case of this distribution. The proposed distribution can be seen as a natural discrete analogue of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivariate Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. We study different properties of this distribution and explore its dependence structures. We propose a new EM algorithm to compute the maximum-likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters which can be implemented very efficiently, and discuss some inferential issues also. The analysis of one data set has been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, we propose some open problems and conclude the paper.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the inferential procedures for the generalized inverted exponential distribution under progressive first failure censoring. The exact confidence interval for the scale parameter is derived. The generalized confidence intervals (GCIs) for the shape parameter and some commonly used reliability metrics such as the quantile and the reliability function are explored. Then the proposed procedure is extended to the prediction interval for the future measurement. The GCIs for the reliability of the stress-strength model are discussed under both equal scale and unequal scale scenarios. Extensive simulations are used to demonstrate the performance of the proposed GCIs and prediction interval. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the proposed methods.  相似文献

The Type-II progressive hybrid censoring scheme has received wide attention, but it has a disadvantage in that long time may be required to complete the life test. The generalized progressive Type-II hybrid censoring scheme has recently been proposed to solve this problem. Under the censoring scheme, the time on test does not exceed a predetermined time. In this paper, we propose a robust Bayesian approach based on a hierarchical structure when the generalized progressive Type-II hybrid censored sample has a two-parameter exponential distribution. For unknown parameters, marginal posterior distributions are provided in closed forms, and their statistical properties are discussed. To examine the robustness of the proposed method, Monte Carlo simulations are conducted and a real data set is analyzed. Further, the quality and adequacy of the proposed model are evaluated in an analysis based on the real data.  相似文献

The generalized exponential is the most commonly used distribution for analyzing lifetime data. This distribution has several desirable properties and it can be used quite effectively to analyse several skewed life time data. The main aim of this paper is to introduce absolutely continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution using the method of Block and Basu (1974). In fact, the Block and Basu exponential distribution will be extended to the generalized exponential distribution. We call the new proposed model as the Block and Basu bivariate generalized exponential distribution, then, discuss its different properties. In this case the joint probability distribution function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. The model has four unknown parameters and the maximum likelihood estimators cannot be obtained in explicit form. To compute the maximum likelihood estimators directly, one needs to solve a four dimensional optimization problem. The EM algorithm has been proposed to compute the maximum likelihood estimations of the unknown parameters. One data analysis is provided for illustrative purposes. Finally, we propose some generalizations of the proposed model and compare their models with each other.  相似文献

Epstein [Truncated life tests in the exponential case, Ann. Math. Statist. 25 (1954), pp. 555–564] introduced a hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-I hybrid censoring) and Chen and Bhattacharyya [Exact confidence bounds for an exponential parameter under hybrid censoring, Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 17 (1988), pp. 1857–1870] derived the exact distribution of the maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) of the mean of a scaled exponential distribution based on a Type-I hybrid censored sample. Childs et al. [Exact likelihood inference based on Type-I and Type-II hybrid censored samples from the exponential distribution, Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 55 (2003), pp. 319–330] provided an alternate simpler expression for this distribution, and also developed analogous results for another hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-II hybrid censoring). The purpose of this paper is to derive the exact bivariate distribution of the MLE of the parameter vector of a two-parameter exponential model based on hybrid censored samples. The marginal distributions are derived and exact confidence bounds for the parameters are obtained. The results are also used to derive the exact distribution of the MLE of the pth quantile, as well as the corresponding confidence bounds. These exact confidence intervals are then compared with parametric bootstrap confidence intervals in terms of coverage probabilities. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the methods of inference developed here.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to review existing goodness-of-fit tests for the exponential distribution under progressive Type-II censoring and to provide some new ideas and adjustments. In particular, we consider two-parameter exponentially distributed random variables and adapt the proposed test procedures to our scenario if necessary. Then, we compare their power by an extensive simulation study. Furthermore, we propose five new test procedures that provide reasonable alternatives to those already known.  相似文献

The generalized exponential distribution proposed by Gupta and Kundu [Gupta, R.D and Kundu, D., 1999, Generalized exponential distributions. Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 41(2), 173–188.] is an important lifetime distribution in survival analysis. In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation procedure of the parameters of the generalized exponential distribution when the data are left censored. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown para-meters and the Fisher information matrix. Based on progressively type-II censored data, the maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) for the Lomax parameters are derived using the expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm. Moreover, the expected Fisher information matrix based on the missing value principle is computed. Using extensive simulation and three criteria, namely, bias, root mean squared error and Pitman closeness measures, we compare the performance of the MLEs via the EM algorithm and the Newton–Raphson (NR) method. It is concluded that the EM algorithm outperforms the NR method in all the cases. Two real data examples are used to illustrate our proposed estimators.  相似文献

Epstein (1954) introduced the Type-I hybrid censoring scheme as a mixture of Type-I and Type-II censoring schemes. Childs et al. (2003) introduced the Type-II hybrid censoring scheme as an alternative to Type-I hybrid censoring scheme, and provided the exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of the mean of a one-parameter exponential distribution based on Type-II hybrid censored samples. The associated confidence interval also has been provided. The main aim of this paper is to consider a two-parameter exponential distribution, and to derive the exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters based on Type-II hybrid censored samples. The marginal distributions and the exact confidence intervals are also provided. The results can be used to derive the exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of the percentile point, and to construct the associated confidence interval. Different methods are compared using extensive simulations and one data analysis has been performed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The mixture transition distribution (MTD) model was introduced by Raftery to face the need for parsimony in the modeling of high-order Markov chains in discrete time. The particularity of this model comes from the fact that the effect of each lag upon the present is considered separately and additively, so that the number of parameters required is drastically reduced. However, the efficiency for the MTD parameter estimations proposed up to date still remains problematic on account of the large number of constraints on the parameters. In this article, an iterative procedure, commonly known as expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm, is developed cooperating with the principle of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) to estimate the MTD parameters. Some applications of modeling MTD show the proposed EM algorithm is easier to be used than the algorithm developed by Berchtold. Moreover, the EM estimations of parameters for high-order MTD models led on DNA sequences outperform the corresponding fully parametrized Markov chain in terms of Bayesian information criterion. In this paper, we study a k-step-stress accelerated life test under Type-I censoring. The lifetime of the items follows the multivariate exponential distribution and a cumulative exposure model is considered. We derive the maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters and establish the asymptotic properties of them. The problem of choosing the optimal time is addressed by using V-optimality as well as D-optimality criteria. Finally, some numerical studies are discussed to illustrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

The parameters of Downton's bivariate exponential distribution are estimated based on a ranked set sample. Parametric and nonparametric methods are considered. The suggested estimators are compared to the corresponding ones based on simple random sampling. In the presence of univariate censoring, a class of nonparametric estimators is proposed for linear functionals of a bivariate distribution of paired failure times. The estimators are shown to be root-n consistent and asymptotically normal. An adjusted empirical log-likelihood ratio statistic is developed and proved to follow a chi-square distribution asymptotically. Two types of confidence intervals, based on the normal approximation method and the empirical likelihood method, respectively, are constructed to make inference about the linear functionals. Their performance is evaluated in several simulation studies and a real example.  相似文献

The generalized half-normal (GHN) distribution and progressive type-II censoring are considered in this article for studying some statistical inferences of constant-stress accelerated life testing. The EM algorithm is considered to calculate the maximum likelihood estimates. Fisher information matrix is formed depending on the missing information law and it is utilized for structuring the asymptomatic confidence intervals. Further, interval estimation is discussed through bootstrap intervals. The Tierney and Kadane method, importance sampling procedure and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm are utilized to compute Bayesian estimates. Furthermore, predictive estimates for censored data and the related prediction intervals are obtained. We consider three optimality criteria to find out the optimal stress level. A real data set is used to illustrate the importance of GHN distribution as an alternative lifetime model for well-known distributions. In this article, we investigate the potential usefulness of the three-parameter transmuted generalized exponential distribution for analyzing lifetime data. We compare it with various generalizations of the two-parameter exponential distribution using maximum likelihood estimation. Some mathematical properties of the new extended model including expressions for the quantile and moments are investigated. We propose a location-scale regression model, based on the log-transmuted generalized exponential distribution. Two applications with real data are given to illustrate the proposed family of lifetime distributions.  相似文献

A generalized version of inverted exponential distribution (IED) is introduced in this paper. This lifetime distribution is capable of modelling various shapes of failure rates, and hence various shapes of ageing criteria. The model can be considered as another useful two-parameter generalization of the IED. Statistical and reliability properties of the generalized inverted exponential distribution are derived. Maximum likelihood estimation and least square estimation are used to evaluate the parameters and the reliability of the distribution. Properties of the estimates are also studied.  相似文献
