Differences in Grades Received by Male and Female Students at the Medical School in Rostov-On-Don

Everyday observation shows that women students at medical schools do better, on the average, than men. The quantitative regularities and causes of this phenomenon have not been adequately studied. It was this that served as the occasion for the present research.     

Transition of Handicapped Students from School to Work: An Evaluation of the NEAT Paid Work Experience Program for Handicapped Secondary Students

The NEAT Work Experience Program for Handicapped Secondary Students is one in which Students are paid award wages for their work and employers receive a subsidy for training them. An evaluation of the program suggested that the program had improved the employment prospects of its participants, had assisted their adjustment to work and had made them more independent with respect to financial management, use of transport and selection of appropriate clothing. Employers became more favourable to the employment of handicapped people as a result of participation in the scheme. Moreover the scheme has enabled schools to make their programs more relevant to the working world.     

Attitudes of Medical School Workers Towards Reorganization

Summary This paper arises from a four-year project funded by the Departmentof Health and Social Security, concerning the social needs ofthe physically sick—a study of some aspects of the socialneeds of the physically sick and of the services designed tomeet needs. The present focus is on social work services andin this part of the project a development study has been undertakenand postal questionnaires have been sent (a) to all medicalsocial workers employed in the Hospital Service and in localauthority Health and Welfare Departments, and (b) to all otherhospital social workers engaged in helping the phsically sickand handicapped persons. In addition, a Survey is being carriedout through records of 9,000 admissions to a number of hospitalsto see how many of these patients are referred to the hospitalSocial Work Departments in a nine-month period, at what stagein their hospital careers they are referred, etc. A Survey is being carried out in four hospitals using a randomsample of patients and another sample referred for social workhelp. These patients are being interviewed in hospital and afterdischarge to see what kind of problems are encountered in hospitaland after discharge and what services are provided. Interviewswith medical, nursing, administrative and social work stabstractand included in this survey. The overall objectives of the Survey are to study needs andservices and to indicate how closely services respond to needs.

Social Work and General Medical Practice: Personal Accounts of Three-year Attachment

Summary In the area of social worker-general practitioner collaborationmuch has been written about conflict of roles, differing functions,avenues of accountability, and problems of distributing scarceresources. This paper suggests that if the two professions areto work more comfortably with one another, then it is imperativethat both also share the despair, hopelessness, anxiety andanger that are the occupational hazards of each. Ways are suggestedin which doctor and social worker can look at the pain theirpatients are suffering to the benefit of the patient and theiro working relationship.

Bystanders' Reactions to Bullying: A Cross‐cultural Analysis of Personal Correlates Among Italian and Singaporean Students

This study examined the role of attitudes against bullying and perceived peer pressure for intervention in explaining defending the victim and passive bystanding behavior in bullying. Participants were 1031 school‐age children from two culturally diverse settings, namely Italy and Singapore, which are similar on several dimensions (e.g., quality of life, child welfare) but dramatically differ on other aspects, such as individualism—collectivism orientation. Multilevel analyses showed that country and participants' gender moderated the relations between individual predictors and behavior during bullying episodes. In particular, although individual attitudes were a stronger predictor of Italian students'—especially girls'—behavior, perceived peer expectations were more strongly associated with behavior of Singaporean participants. This study contributes to the literature by being the first to provide data analyzing the association between defending and passive bystanding behavior and different correlates using a cross‐cultural approach.

Student School Engagement Among Sexual Minority Students: Understanding the Contributors to Predicting Academic Outcomes

ABSTRACT

Hierarchical multiple regression is used to examine whether student school engagement predicts grade point average (GPA) and fear-based truancy among 315 sexual minority youth aged 13 to 24 years. Results indicate that student school engagement is a significant predictor of GPA, and this relationship is strongest in the presence of a gay–straight alliance. Having an adult ally at school is associated with a decrease in fear-based truancy, while student school engagement predicts a decrease in fear-based truancy only for youth who have higher levels of subjective fear at school. Implications for future research and for practice among school-based helping professionals are discussed.

对哈尔滨中学生日常行为习惯的调查

通过调查发现,在新世纪新阶段的时代背景下,哈尔滨中学生具有良好的日常行为习惯,他们积极践行做人之本、弘扬传统美德、社会责任感增强、道德实践日益活跃占据主流。但是,由于其生理、心理发育尚未成熟,可塑性强,分辨是非的能力还有待提高,也面临着价值与利益的双重挑战。社会公德意识淡薄和道德实践资源短缺在制约道德水准的整体提升。鉴于此,应通过加强心理辅导、优化成长环境、对中学共青团工作创新等途径,在家庭、学校、社会等方面的合力作用下,对少数中学生的不良行为习惯加以矫正。     

运用小组工作方法帮助初中偏差行为生的理论与实践探索

本文对偏差行为生的界定、特征、形成原因进行了梳理,在综合分析初中偏差行为生的特质、当前对偏差行为生教育理念、教育方法不足之处及小组工作方法介入的优势的基础上认为小组工作方法是帮助初中偏差行为生成长的一种有效方法。然后,文章从小组工作方法的介入要点出发,结合实际工作经验对一个初中偏差行为生的小组进行分析并从中总结经验,探讨小组工作在帮助初中偏差行为生的具体操作模式。     

医学专业与非医专业学生创新创业课程学习效果对比研究

当前,创新创业教育均在各高校广泛开展,创新创业课程也相继成为大学生学习的必修课程。创新创业课程开设以来,取得了一定的成绩,但也暴露出一些问题。该研究通过分析高校医学专业和非医学专业学生创新创业学习效果现状,发现创新创业教育课程存在的问题,提出针对性的改进措施,从而助力国家创新创业战略发展,为高校提升创新型人才培养实效提供理论基础。     

Religious Correlates of Death Anxiety Among High School Students in Rural Southern America

Students from two rural high schools in South Louisiana participated in a study of the relationship between death anxiety and religiosity. Six variables, four of which are concerned with religiosity, were identified as correlates of death anxiety by stepwise multiple regression.
