We consider the Bayesian D-optimal design problem for exponential growth models with one, two or three parameters. For the one-parameter model conditions on the shape of the density of the prior distribution and on the range of its support are given guaranteeing that a one-point design is also Bayesian D-optimal within the class of all designs. In the case of two parameters the best two-point designs are determined and for special prior distributions it is proved that these designs are Bayesian D-optimal. Finally, the exponential growth model with three parameters is investigated. The best three-point designs are characterized by a nonlinear equation. The global optimality of these designs cannot be proved analytically and it is demonstrated that these designs are also Bayesian D-optimal within the class of all designs if gamma-distributions are used as prior distributions.  相似文献

This paper considers the search for locally and maximin optimal designs for multi-factor nonlinear models from optimal designs for sub-models of a lower dimension. In particular, sufficient conditions are given so that maximin D-optimal designs for additive multi-factor nonlinear models can be built from maximin D-optimal designs for their sub-models with a single factor. Some examples of application are models involving exponential decay in several variables.  相似文献

We introduce a new class of supersaturated designs using Bayesian D-optimality. The designs generated using this approach can have arbitrary sample sizes, can have any number of blocks of any size, and can incorporate categorical factors with more than two levels. In side by side diagnostic comparisons based on the E(s2)E(s2) criterion for two-level experiments having even sample size, our designs either match or out-perform the best designs published to date. The generality of the method is illustrated with quality improvement experiment with 15 runs and 20 factors in 3 blocks.  相似文献

An obvious strategy for obtaining a Doptimal foldover design for p factors at two levels each in 2N runs is to fold a Doptimal main effects plan. We show that this strategy works except when N = 4t + 2 and s is even In that case there are two different classes of D-optimal main effects plans with N runs that have the same determinant. The purpose of mixture experiments is to explore the optimum blends of mixture components, which will provide the desirable response characteristics in finished products. D-optimal minimal designs have been considered for a variety of mixture models, including Scheffé's linear, quadratic, and cubic models. Usually, these D-optimal designs are minimally supported since they have just as many design points as the number of parameters. Thus, they lack the degrees of freedom to perform the lack-of-fit (LOF) tests. Also, the majority of the design points in D-optimal minimal designs are on the boundary: vertices, edges, or faces of the design simplex. In this article, extensions of the D-optimal minimal designs are developed for a general mixture model to allow additional interior points in the design space to enable prediction of the entire response surface. Also a new strategy for adding multiple interior points for symmetric mixture models is proposed. We compare the proposed designs with Cornell (1986 Cornell, J.A. (1986). A general approach for comparing designs of paired comparison experiments on the basis of the asymptotic relative efficiencies, in the Bahadur sense, of their respective likelihood ratio tests is discussed and extended to factorials. Explicit results for comparing five designs of 2q factorial paired comparison experiments are obtained. These results indicate that some of the designs which require comparison of fewer distinct pairs of treatments than does the completely balanced design are, generally, more efficient for detecting main effects and/or certain interactions. The developments of this paper generalize the work of Littell and Boyett (1977) for comparing two designs of R x C factorial paired comparison experiments.  相似文献

We commonly observe many types of paired nature of competitions in which the objects are compared by the respondents pairwise in a subjective manner. The Bayesian statistics, contrary to the classical statistics, presents a generic tool to incorporate new experimental evidence and update the existing information. These and other properties have ushered the statisticians to focus their attention on the Bayesian analysis of different paired comparison models. The present article focuses on the amended Davidson model for paired comparison in which an amendment has been introduced that accommodates the option of not distinguishing the effects of two treatments when they are compared pairwise. However, Bayesian analysis of the amended Davidson model is performed using the noninformative priors after making another small modification of incorporating the parameter of order effect factor. The joint and marginal posterior distributions of the parameters, their posterior estimates, predictive and posterior probabilities to compare the treatment parameters are obtained.  相似文献

For decision purpose, one of the commonly used statistical applications is the comparison of two or more objects or characteristics. Sometimes, it is not possible to compare the objects at a time or when the number of objects under study is large and the differences between the objects become small, then a useful way is to compare them in pairwise manner. Because of its practical nature, the fields in which paired comparison techniques are being used are numerous. Many Bayesian statisticians have focused their attention on the practical and usable paired comparison technique and have successfully performed the Bayesian study of many of the paired comparison models. In the current study, analysis of the amended Davidson model (ADM) which has been extended after incorporating the order effect parameter is narrated. For this intention, both the informative and non informative priors are used. The said model is studied for the case of four treatments which are compared pairwise.  相似文献

Paired data have been widely collected in the efficiency studies of a new method against an established method in environmental, ecological and medical studies. For example, in comparative fishing studies, ability of catching target species (fish catch) or reducing the catch of non-target species (fish bycatch) is usually investigated through a paired design. These paired fish catches by weight are generally skewed and continuous, but with a significant portion of exact zeros (no catch). Such zero-inflated continuous data are traditionally handled by two-part models where the zero and positive components are handled separately; however, this separation generally destroys paired structure, and thus may result in substantial difficulty in characterizing the relative efficiency between two methods. To overcome this problem, we consider compound Poisson mixed model for paired data with which the zero and non-zero components are characterized in an integral way. In our approach, the clustering effects by pair are captured by incorporating relevant random effects. Our model is estimated using orthodox best linear unbiased predictor approach. Unlike two-part models, our approach unifies inferences of zero and positive components. Our method is illustrated with analyses of winter flounder bycatch data and ultrasound safety data.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a new method for determining optimal designs for enzyme inhibition kinetic models, which are used to model the influence of the concentration of a substrate and an inhibition on the velocity of a reaction. The approach uses a nonlinear transformation of the vector of predictors such that the model in the new coordinates is given by an incomplete response surface model. Although there exist no explicit solutions of the optimal design problem for incomplete response surface models so far, the corresponding design problem in the new coordinates is substantially more transparent, such that explicit or numerical solutions can be determined more easily. The designs for the original problem can finally be found by an inverse transformation of the optimal designs determined for the response surface model. We illustrate the method determining explicit solutions for the D-optimal design and for the optimal design problem for estimating the individual coefficients in a non-competitive enzyme inhibition kinetic model.  相似文献

Abstract

Designs for the first order trigonometric regression model over an interval on the real line are considered for the situation where estimation of the slope of the response surface at various points in the factor space is of primary interest. Minimization of the variance of the estimated slope at a point maximized over all points in the region of interest is taken as the design criterion. Optimal designs under the minimax criterion are derived for the situation where the design region and the region of interest are identical and a symmetric “partial cycle”. Some comparisons of the minimax designs with the traditional D- and A-optimal designs are provided. Efficiencies of some exact designs under the minimax criterion are also investigated.  相似文献

In recent years, numerous statisticians have focused their attention on the Bayesian analysis of different paired comparison models. While studying paired comparison techniques, the Davidson model is considered to be one of the famous paired comparison models in the available literature. In this article, we have introduced an amendment in the Davidson model which has been commenced to accommodate the option of not distinguishing the effects of two treatments when they are compared pairwise. Having made this amendment, the Bayesian analysis of the Amended Davidson model is performed using the noninformative (uniform and Jeffreys’) and informative (Dirichlet–gamma–gamma) priors. To study the model and to perform the Bayesian analysis with the help of an example, we have obtained the joint and marginal posterior distributions of the parameters, their posterior estimates, graphical presentations of the marginal densities, preference and predictive probabilities and the posterior probabilities to compare the treatment parameters.  相似文献

The problem of finding D-optimal or D-efficient designs in the presence of covariates is considered under a completely randomized design set-up with v treatments, k covariates and N experimental units. In contrast to Lopes Troya [Lopes Troya, J., 1982, Optimal designs for covariates models. Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference, 6, 373–419.], who considered this problem in the equireplicate case, we do not assume that N/v is an integer, and this allows us to study situations where no equireplicate design exists. Even when N/v is an integer, it is seen quite counter-intuitively that there are situations where a non-equireplicate design outperforms the best equireplicate design under the D-criterion.  相似文献

Many empirical studies are planned with the prior knowledge that some of the data may be missed. This knowledge is seldom explicitly incorporated into the experiment design process for lack of a candid methodology. This paper proposes an index related to the expected determinant of the information matrix as a criterion for planning block designs. Due to the intractable nature of the expected determinantal criterion an analytic expression is presented only for a simple 2x2 layout. A first order Taylor series approximation function is suggested for larger layouts. Ranges over which this approximation is adequate are shown via Monte Carlo simulations. The robustness of information in the block design relative to the completely randomized design with missing data is discussed.  相似文献

A common strategy for avoiding information overload in multi-factor paired comparison experiments is to employ pairs of options which have different levels for only some of the factors in a study. For the practically important case where the factors fall into three groups such that all factors within a group have the same number of levels and where one is only interested in estimating the main effects, a comprehensive catalogue of D-optimal approximate designs is presented. Four general classes of partially balanced designs for 2n factorials, corresponding to four different forms of a general null hypothesis H on factorial effects, are presented. For the typical design in each class, the simplified form of the non-centrality parameter λ2 of the asymptotic chi-square distribution of the likelihood ratio statistic for testing the corresponding form of H0 is derived under defined local alternatives. Optimal designs d1 maximizing λ2 in the i-th class and minimizing the trace, determinant and largest eigenvalue of a defined covariance matrix, i =1,…,4, are determined.  相似文献

A log linear multivariate paired comparison model for ties is proposed in which the cell probabilities under independence are those given by Davidson (1970). Altham's (1970) generalized measure of association (iv) is used to compare the association structure between two models, one having full, the other having reduced association structure. Based on the model with reduced association structure, the analysis of data from a consumer preference experiment is presented.  相似文献
