We give a general procedure to characterize multivariate distributions by using products of the hazard gradient and mean residual life components. This procedure is applied to characterize multivariate distributions as Gumbel exponential, Lomax, Burr, Pareto and generalized Pareto multivariate distributions. Our results extend the results of several authors and can be used to study how to extend univariate models to the multivariate set-up.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a unified approach to stochastic comparisons of random vectors corresponding to two general multivariate mixture models. These stochastic comparisons are made with respect to multivariate hazard rate, reversed hazard rate and likelihood ratio orders. In the present paper, we define and study four versions of multivariate discrete reversed hazard rates, namely scalar reversed hazard rate, vector reversed hazard rate, alternative reversed hazard rate, and conditional reversed hazard rate. Various properties of these functions are studied. Interrelationships between these reversed hazard rates are explored. In this article, first, in order to compare X and X w (the weighted version of X with weight function w(·)) according to reversed mean residual life order, we provide an equivalent condition. We then try to provide conditions under which the reversed mean residual life order is preserved by weighted distributions. For this end, we obtain several independent results. Finally, the problem of preservation of increasing reversed mean residual life class under weighting is investigated, as well. Some examples are also given to illustrate the results.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate ordering properties of lifetimes of parallel systems with two independent heterogeneous exponential components in terms of the mean residual life order. We establish, among others, that the reciprocal majorization order between parameter vectors implies the mean residual life order between the lifetimes of two parallel systems. In this article, we propose an extension of the Maxwell distribution, so-called the extended Maxwell distribution. This extension is evolved by using the Maxwell-X family of distributions and Weibull distribution. We study its fundamental properties such as hazard rate, moments, generating functions, skewness, kurtosis, stochastic ordering, conditional moments and moment generating function, hazard rate, mean and variance of the (reversed) residual life, reliability curves, entropy, etc. In estimation viewpoint, the maximum likelihood estimation of the unknown parameters of the distribution and asymptotic confidence intervals are discussed. We also obtain expected Fisher’s information matrix as well as discuss the existence and uniqueness of the maximum likelihood estimators. The EMa distribution and other competing distributions are fitted to two real datasets and it is shown that the distribution is a good competitor to the compared distributions.  相似文献

The hazard rate (HR) and mean residual lifetime are two of the most practical and best-known functions in biometry, reliability, statistics and life testing. Recently, the reversed HR function is found to have interesting properties useful in additional areas such as censored data and forensic science. For these three biometric functions, we propose testing methods that they take on a known functional form against that they dominate or are dominated by this known form. This goodness-of-fit-type testing is wider in applications and more interesting than the long-standing testing procedures for exponentiality against the monotonicity of these functions or even the change point problems. This is so since we can test against any choice of the survival distribution and not just exponentiality. For this general testing, we present easy to implement tests and generalize them into classes of statistics that could lead to more powerful and efficient testing.  相似文献

Recently, in the literature, the use of quantile functions in the place of distribution functions has provided new models, alternative methodology and easier algebraic manipulations. In this paper, we introduce new orders among the random variables in terms of their quantile functions like the reversed hazard quantile function, the reversed mean residual quantile function and the reversed variance residual quantile function orders. In this paper, the reliability properties of two-component parallel and series systems are considered for bivariate generalized exponential (BVGE) distribution introduced by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivar Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. For this model, the moments and mean residual life functions of these systems and the regression mean residual life function are derived. Stochastic comparisons of series and parallel systems of BVGE distribution are investigated. Moreover, various ordering results for the comparisons of series and parallel systems arising from BVGE random vectors are obtained with respect to the usual stochastic, reversed hazard rate and likelihood ratio orderings.  相似文献

Sometimes additive hazard rate model becomes more important to study than the celebrated (Cox, 1972) proportional hazard rate model. But the concept of the hazard function is sometimes abstract, in comparison to the concept of mean residual life function. In this paper, we have defined a new model called ‘dynamic additive mean residual life model’ where the covariates are time dependent, and study the closure of this model under different stochastic orders.  相似文献

Recently, authors have studied inequalities involving expectations of selected functions, viz. failure rate, mean residual life, aging intensity function, and log-odds rate which are defined for left truncated random variables in reliability theory to characterize some well-known distributions. However, there has been growing interest in the study of these functions in reversed time (X ? x, instead of X > x) and their applications. Reversed hazard rates are found to be very useful in survival and reliability studies especially in cases of parallel systems and left-censored data. We introduce four association measures using reversed hazard rates and mean waiting time. We then study the properties of these measures. Nonparametric estimators of these measures are developed. This article addresses the various properties and different methods of estimation of the unknown parameter of length and area-biased Maxwell distributions. Although, our main focus is on estimation from both frequentist and Bayesian point of view, yet, various mathematical and statistical properties of length and area-biased Maxwell distributions (such as moments, moment-generating function (mgf), hazard rate function, mean residual lifetime function, residual lifetime function, reversed residual life function, conditional moments and conditional mgf, stochastic ordering, and measures of uncertainty) are derived. We briefly describe different frequentist approaches, namely, maximum likelihood estimator, moments estimator, least-square and weighted least-square estimators, maximum product of spacings estimator and compare them using extensive numerical simulations. Next we consider Bayes estimation under different types of loss function (symmetric and asymmetric loss functions) using inverted gamma prior for the scale parameter. Furthermore, Bayes estimators and their respective posterior risks are computed and compared using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. Also, bootstrap confidence intervals using frequentist approaches are provided to compare with Bayes credible intervals. Finally, a real dataset has been analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper we find the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of hazard rate and mean residual life functions (MRLF) of Pareto distribution, their asymptotic non degenerate distribution, exact distribution and moments. We also discuss the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimate (UMVUE) of hazard rate function and MRLF. Finally, two numerical examples with simulated data and real data set, are presented to illustrate the proposed estimates.  相似文献

Several attempts were made in the literature to generalize the notions based on univariate quantiles to higher dimensions. As quantile-based reliability concepts are receiving much attention, it is important to address these problems in the field of Reliability theory. In this paper, bivariate reliability concepts using the dependence structure are introduced. The properties and characterizations of the bivariate reliability concepts are presented; it includes the characterization based on the relationship between bivariate hazard rate and bivariate mean residual life. In this article, we consider the change-point hazard rate model which arises quite commonly in mechanical or biological systems, which experience a high hazard rate early in their lifetime due to infant mortality and then a constant or steady hazard rate after the threshold time. We first derive the corresponding mean residual life function (MRLF) and observe that the MRLF is initially increasing and then constant. Here, we derive a test statistic for exponentiality against Increasing Initially then Constant Mean Residual Life (ICMRL). We also derive the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic and compare the power of the test with other existing tests such as likelihood ratio, Weibull, and Log gamma tests considered in the literature. The test performs quite well as compared to other alternatives studied.  相似文献

In this article, by considering a multivariate normal mean–variance mixture distribution, we derive the exact joint distribution of linear combinations of order statistics and their concomitants. From this general result, we then deduce the exact marginal and conditional distributions of order statistics and their concomitants arising from this distribution. In survival analysis and reliability theory, a fundamental problem is the study of lifetime properties of a live organism or system. In this regard, there have been considered and studied several models based on different concepts of ageing such as hazard rate and mean residual life. In this paper, we consider an additive-multiplicative hazard model (AMHM) and study some reliability and ageing properties of the proposed model. We then specify the bivariate models whose conditionals satisfy AMHM. Several properties of the proposed bivariate model are investigated and adequacy of the model is evaluated based on a real data set.  相似文献
