Nonparametric control chart is useful when the underlying distribution is unknown, or is not likely to be normal. In this article, we provide a sequential rank-based nonparametric adaptive EWMA (NAE) control chart for detecting the persistent shift in the location parameter. This NAE chart is a self-starting scheme and thus can be used to monitor processes at the start-up stages rather than waiting for the accumulation of sufficiently large calibration samples. Moreover, we do not require any prior knowledge of the underlying distribution, and to prespecify any tuning parameter either. A Markov chain model is suggested to calibrate the run-length distribution of NAE, which is shown to have approximate tail probability as a geometric distribution. A simulation study demonstrates that the proposed control chart not only performs robustly for different distributions, but also is efficient in detecting various magnitude of shifts. A real-data example from manufacturing shows that it performs quite well in practical applications.  相似文献

This article presents a synthetic control chart for detection of shifts in the process median. The synthetic chart is a combination of sign chart and conforming run-length chart. The performance evaluation of the proposed chart indicates that the synthetic chart has a higher power of detecting shifts in process median than the Shewhart charts based on sign statistic as well as the classical Shewhart X-bar chart for various symmetric distributions. The improvement is significant for shifts of moderate to large shifts in the median. The robustness studies of the proposed synthetic control chart against outliers indicate that the proposed synthetic control chart is robust against contamination by outliers.  相似文献

In certain statistical process control applications, performance of a product or process can be monitored effectively using a linear profile or a linear relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables. In this article, we design a nonparametric bootstrap control chart for monitoring simple linear profiles based on T 2 statistic. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method in phase II. The average and standard deviation of the run length under different shifts in the intercept, slope, and standard deviation are considered as the performance measures. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed bootstrap control chart improves as the size of the available data increases.  相似文献

Distribution-free (nonparametric) control charts can be useful to the quality practitioner when the underlying distribution is not known. A Phase II nonparametric cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart based on the exceedance statistics, called the exceedance CUSUM chart, is proposed here for detecting a shift in the unknown location parameter of a continuous distribution. The exceedance statistics can be more efficient than rank-based methods when the underlying distribution is heavy-tailed and/or right-skewed, which may be the case in some applications, particularly with certain lifetime data. Moreover, exceedance statistics can save testing time and resources as they can be applied as soon as a certain order statistic of the reference sample is available. Guidelines and recommendations are provided for the chart's design parameters along with an illustrative example. The in- and out-of-control performances of the chart are studied through extensive simulations on the basis of the average run-length (ARL), the standard deviation of run-length (SDRL), the median run-length (MDRL), and some percentiles of run-length. Further, a comparison with a number of existing control charts, including the parametric CUSUM chart and a recent nonparametric CUSUM chart based on the Wilcoxon rank-sum statistic, called the rank-sum CUSUM chart, is made. It is seen that the exceedance CUSUM chart performs well in many cases and thus can be a useful alternative chart in practice. A summary and some concluding remarks are given.  相似文献

The run sum chart is an effective two-sided chart that can be used to monitor for process changes. It is known that it is more sensible than the Shewhart chart with runs rules and its performance improves as the number of regions increases. However, as the number of regions increses the resulting chart has more parameters to be defined and its design becomes more involved. In this article, we introduce a one-parameter run sum chart. This chart accumulates scores equal to the subgroup means and signals when the cummulative sum exceeds a limit value. A fast initial response feature is proposed and its run length distribution function is found by a set of recursive relations. We compare this chart with other charts suggested in the literature and find it competitive with the CUSUM, the FIR CUSUM, and the combined Shewhart FIR CUSUM schemes.  相似文献

In this article, we provide a nonparametric Shewhart-type synthetic control chart based on the signed-rank statistic to monitor shifts in the known in-control process median. The synthetic control chart is a combination of a signed-rank chart due to Bakir (2004 Bakir , S. T. ( 2004 ). A distribution-free Shewhart quality control chart based on signed-ranks . Quality Engineering 16 : 613623 .[Taylor & Francis Online] [Google Scholar]) and a conforming run length chart due to Bourke (1991 Bourke , P. D. ( 1991 ). Detecting a shift in fraction nonconforming using run-length control charts with 100% inspection . Journal of Quality Technology 23 : 225238 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). The operation and design of the chart are discussed and the performance of the chart has been studied. The chart has an attractive average run length behavior as compared to the parametric control chart for a class of symmetric continuous process distributions. The proposed chart performs better than the nonparametric signed-rank chart given by Bakir (2004 Bakir , S. T. ( 2004 ). A distribution-free Shewhart quality control chart based on signed-ranks . This article analyses and evaluates the properties of a CUSUM chart designed for monitoring the process mean in short production runs. Several statistical measures of performance that are appropriate when the process operates for a finite-time horizon are proposed. The methodology developed in this article can be used to evaluate the performance of the CUSUM scheme for any given set of chart parameters from both an economic and a statistical point of view, and thus, allows comparisons with various other charts.  相似文献

The double exponentially weighted moving average (DEWMA) technique has been investigated in recent years for detecting shifts in the process mean and has been shown to be more efficient than the corresponding exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) technique. In this article, we extend the DEWMA technique of performing exponential smoothing twice to the double moving average (DMA) technique by computing the moving average twice. Using simulation, we show that our proposed DMA chart improves upon the ARL performance of the moving average (MA) chart in detecting mean shifts of small to moderate magnitudes. It is also shown through simulation that, generally, the DMA charts with spans, w = 10 and 15 provide comparable average run length (ARL) performances to the EWMA and cumulative sum (CUSUM) charts, designed for detecting small shifts.  相似文献

CUSUM control schemes for Gaussian processes   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
A CUSUM control scheme for detecting a change point in a Gaussian process is derived. An upper and a lower bound for the distribution of the run length and for its moments is given. In a Monte Carlo study the average run length (ARL) of this chart is compared with the ARL of two other CUSUM procedures which are based on approximations to the sequential probability ratio, and, moreover, with EWMA schemes for autocorrelated data. Results on the optimal choice of the reference value are presented. Furthermore it is investigated how these charts behave if the model parameters are estimated.  相似文献

This article studies a unique feature of the binomial CUSUM chart in which the difference (d t ?d 0) is replaced by (d t ?d 0)2 in the formulation of the cumulative sum C t (where d t and d 0 are the actual and in-control numbers of nonconforming units, respectively, in a sample). Performance studies are reported and the results reveal that this new feature is able to increase the detection effectiveness when fraction nonconforming p becomes three to four times as large as the in-control value p 0. The design of the new binomial CUSUM chart is presented along with the calculation of the in-control and out-of-control Average Run Lengths (ARL0 and ARL1).  相似文献

Measures of distributional symmetry based on quantiles, L-moments, and trimmed L-moments are briefly reviewed, and (asymptotic) sampling properties of commonly used estimators considered. Standard errors are estimated using both analytical and computer-intensive methods. Simulation is used to assess results when sampling from some known distributions; bootstrapping is used on sample data to estimate standard errors, construct confidence intervals, and test a hypothesis of distributional symmetry. Symmetry measures based on 2- or 3-trimmed L-moments have some advantages over other measures in terms of their existence. Their estimators are generally well behaved, even in relatively small samples.  相似文献

A cumulative sum control chart for multivariate Poisson distribution (MP-CUSUM) is proposed. The MP-CUSUM chart is constructed based on log-likelihood ratios with in-control parameters, Θ0, and shifts to be detected quickly, Θ1. The average run length (ARL) values are obtained using a Markov Chain-based method. Numerical experiments show that the MP-CUSUM chart is effective in detecting parameter shifts in terms of ARL. The MP-CUSUM chart with smaller Θ1 is more sensitive than that with greater Θ1 to smaller shifts, but more insensitive to greater shifts. A comparison shows that the proposed MP-CUSUM chart outperforms an existing MP chart.  相似文献

A synthetic mean square error (MSE) control chart is presented in this study for monitoring the changes in the mean and standard deviation of a normally distributed process. The synthetic MSE control chart is a combination of the standard MSE control chart and the conforming run length (CRL) control chart. From the numerical comparisons, the synthetic MSE control chart is always more efficient than the standard MSE control chart in detecting shifts in the process mean and standard deviation. The synthetic MSE chart also performs better than the exponentially weighted moving average-semicircle (EWMA-SC) chart, except for some cases where the process mean shifts are small.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new multivariate cumulative sum chart, where the target mean shift is assumed to be a weighted sum of principal directions of the population covariance matrix. This chart provides an attractive performance in terms of average run length (ARL) for large-dimensional data and it also compares favorably to existing multivariate charts including Crosier's benchmark chart with updated values of the upper control limit and the associated ARL function. In addition, Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to assess the accuracy of the well-known Siegmund's approximation of the average ARL function when observations are normal distributed. As a byproduct of the article, we provide updated values of upper control limits and the associated ARL function for Crosier's multivariate CUSUM chart.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new distribution-free Shewhart-type control chart that takes into account the location of a single order statistic of the test sample (such as the median) as well as the number of observations in that test sample that lie between the control limits. Exact formulae for the alarm rate, the run length distribution, and the average run length (ARL) are all derived. A key advantage of the chart is that, due to its nonparametric nature, the false alarm rate and in-control run length distribution are the same for all continuous process distributions, and so will be naturally robust. Tables are provided for the implementation of the chart for some typical ARL values and false alarm rates. The empirical study carried out reveals that the new chart is preferable from a robustness point of view in comparison to a classical Shewhart-type chart and also the nonparametric chart of Chakraborti et al. (2004 Chakraborti , S. , van der Laan , P. , van de Wiel , M. A. ( 2004 ). A class of distribution-free control charts . J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. C-Appl. This paper introduces a novel sequential approach for online surveillance of the equal predictive ability (EPA) hypothesis presumed to hold for many competing forecasting models. A nonparametric control chart is suggested for providing a decision at every new time point as to whether the EPA hypothesis remains valid. The detection ability of our procedure is evaluated in a Monte Carlo simulation study for various types of deviations from the EPA hypothesis. Our approach enables the quick detection of various shift types, is parsimonious, and robust to misspecifications. Based on these results, we formulate practical recommendations for procedure design.  相似文献

Although there exists an increasing interest in monitoring and diagnosing multistage processes through the recent years, this issue has been overlooked to a large extent in cascade processes where the quality characteristics are liable to outliers. The presence of outliers has a debilitating effect on the detect-ability of the traditional cause selecting control charts and thus makes them unreliable. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to provide a robust approach to quality control in multistage processes. It is assumed that the process consists of two stages and the historical data with regard to both dependent quality characteristics contain outliers. A robust fitting procedure based on compound-estimator is employed to build the relationship between the quality variables and a robust monitoring approach is presented. Subsequently, simulation studies are undertaken to assess the performance of the robust scheme by means of the average run length (ARL) criterion. It is shown that the proposed robust procedure can much faster detect diverse types of shift.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new control chart called the sum of squares generally weighted moving average (SS-GWMA) control chart to simultaneously detect both the increase and decrease in the mean and/or variability. This new scheme is compared with the sum of squares exponentially weighted moving average (SS-EWMA) control chart. A simulation study is conducted to show that SS-GWMA control charts outperform SS-EWMA charts, in terms of the average run length (ARL), standard deviation of run length (SDRL), and diagnostic abilities. The design of SS-GWMA control charts is also discussed.  相似文献
