Let X1, …, Xn be independent random variables with XiEWG(α, β, λi, pi), i = 1, …, n, and Y1, …, Yn be another set of independent random variables with YiEWG(α, β, γi, qi), i = 1, …, n. The results established here are developed in two directions. First, under conditions p1 = ??? = pn = q1 = ??? = qn = p, and based on the majorization and p-larger orders between the vectors of scale parameters, we establish the usual stochastic and reversed hazard rate orders between the series and parallel systems. Next, for the case λ1 = ??? = λn = γ1 = ??? = γn = λ, we obtain some results concerning the reversed hazard rate and hazard rate orders between series and parallel systems based on the weak submajorization between the vectors of (p1, …, pn) and (q1, …, qn). The results established here can be used to find various bounds for some important aging characteristics of these systems, and moreover extend some well-known results in the literature.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Concomitants of order statistics are considered for the situation in which the random vectors (X 1, Y 1), (X 2, Y 2),…, (X n , Y n ) are independent but otherwise arbitrarily distributed. The joint and marginal distributions of the concomitants of order statistics and stochastic comparisons among the concomitants of order statistics are studied in this situation.  相似文献

Let X 1,X 2,…,X n be independent exponential random variables such that X i has hazard rate λ for i = 1,…,p and X j has hazard rate λ* for j = p + 1,…,n, where 1 ≤ p < n. Denote by D i:n (λ, λ*) = X i:n  ? X i?1:n the ith spacing of the order statistics X 1:n  ≤ X 2:n  ≤ ··· ≤ X n:n , i = 1,…,n, where X 0:n ≡ 0. It is shown that the spacings (D 1,n ,D 2,n ,…,D n:n ) are MTP2, strengthening one result of Khaledi and Kochar (2000), and that (D 1:n 2, λ*),…,D n:n 2, λ*)) ≤ lr (D 1:n 1, λ*),…,D n:n 1, λ*)) for λ1 ≤ λ* ≤ λ2, where ≤ lr denotes the multivariate likelihood ratio order. A counterexample is also given to show that this comparison result is in general not true for λ* < λ1 < λ2.  相似文献

If (X1,Y1), …, (Xn,Yn) is a sequence of independent identically distributed Rd × R-valued random vectors then Nadaraya (1964) and Watson (1964) proposed to estimate the regression function m(x) = ? {Y1|X1 = x{ by where K is a known density and {hn} is a sequence of positive numbers satisfying certain properties. In this paper a variety of conditions are given for the strong convergence to 0 of essXsup|mn (X)-m(X)| (here X is independent of the data and distributed as X1). The theorems are valid for all distributions of X1 and for all sequences {hn} satisfying hn → 0 and nh/log n→0.  相似文献

Suppose X1, X2, ..., Xm is a random sample of size m from a population with probability density function f(x), x>0 and let X1,m<...m,m be the corresponding order statistics. We assume m as an integer valued random variable with P(m=k)=p(1?p)k?1, k=1, 2, ... and 0 and n X1,n for fixed n characterizes the exponential distribution. In this paper we prove that under the assumption of monotone hazard rate the identical distribution of and (n?r+1) (Xr,n?Xr?1,n) for some fixed r and n with 1≤r≤n, n≥2, X0,n=0, characterizes the exponential distribution. Under the assumption of monotone hazard rate the conjecture of Kakosyan, Klebanov and Melamed follows from the above result with r=1.  相似文献

Let X1,X2,…,Xm be distributed normally with mean μ and variance σ2 X; Let Y1,Y2,…,Yn be distributed normally with mean μ and variance σ2 Y; let X1,X2,…,Xm,Y1,Y2,…,Yn be jointly independent. There have been several papers written concerning point estimation of μ for this problem, but very little is available in the literature concerning confidence intervals on the common mean μ. In this paper a method is proposed that results in a confidence interval with confidence coefficient essentially equal to a prescribed value 1 - α. The method is evaluated and compnred with other methods through the expected length of the confidence interval.  相似文献

Abstract

Let X 1, …, X m and Y 1, …, Y n be independent random variables, where X 1, …, X m are i.i.d. with continuous distribution function (df) F, and Y 1, …, Y n are i.i.d. with continuous df G. For testing the hypothesis H 0: F = G, we introduce and study analogues of the celebrated Kolmogorov–Smirnov and one- and two-sided Cramér-von Mises statistics that are functionals of a suitably integrated two-sample empirical process. Furthermore, we characterize those distributions for which the new tests are locally Bahadur optimal within the setting of shift alternatives.  相似文献

Suppose (X, Y) has a Downton's bivariate exponential distribution with correlation ρ. For a random sample of size n from (X, Y), let X r:n be the rth X-order statistic and Y [r:n] be its concomitant. We investigate estimators of ρ when all the parameters are unknown and the available data is an incomplete bivariate sample made up of (i) all the Y-values and the ranks of associated X-values, i.e. (i, Y [i:n]), 1≤in, and (ii) a Type II right-censored bivariate sample consisting of (X i:n , Y [i:n]), 1≤ir<n. In both setups, we use simulation to examine the bias and mean square errors of several estimators of ρ and obtain their estimated relative efficiencies. The preferred estimator under (i) is a function of the sample correlation of (Y i:n , Y [i:n]) values, and under (ii), a method of moments estimator involving the regression function is preferred.  相似文献

In this article, we establish some new results on stochastic comparisons of the maxima of two heterogenous gamma variables with different shape and scale parameters. Let X1 and X2 [X*1 and X*2] be two independent gamma variables with Xi?[X*i] having shape parameter ri?[r*i] and scale parameter λi?[λ*i], i = 1, 2. It is shown that the likelihood ratio order holds between the maxima, X2: 2 and X*2: 2 when λ1 = λ*1 ? λ2 = λ*2 and r1 ? r*1 ? r2 = r*2. We also prove that, if ri, r*i ∈ (0, 1], (r1, r2) majorizes (r*1, r2*), and (λ1, λ2) is p-larger than (λ*1, λ2*), then X2: 2 is larger than X*2: 2 in the sense of the hazard rate order [dispersive order]. Some numerical examples are provided to illustrate the main results. The new results established here strengthen and generalize some of the results known in the literature.  相似文献

A sequence of independent lifetimes X 1, X 2,…, X m , X m+1,… X n were observed from geometric population with parameter q 1 but later it was found that there was a change in the system at some point of time m and it is reflected in the sequence after X m by change in parameter q 2. The Bayes estimates of m, q 1, q 2, reliability R 1 (t) and R 2 (t) at time t are derived for symmetric and asymmetric loss functions under informative and non informative priors. A simulation study is carried out.  相似文献

A sequence {Xn, n≥1} of independent and identically distributed random variables with continuous cumulative distribution function F(x) is considered. Xj is a record value of this sequence if Xj>max {X1, X2, ..., Xj?1}. We define L(n)=min {j|j>L(n?1), Xj>XL(n?1)}, with L(0)=1. Let Zn,m=XL(n)?XL(m), n>m≥0. Some characterizations of the exponential distribution are considered in terms of Zn,m and XL(m).  相似文献

Consider the randomly weighted sums Sm(θ) = ∑mi = 1θiXi, 1 ? m ? n, and their maxima Mn(θ) = max?1 ? m ? nSm(θ), where Xi, 1 ? i ? n, are real-valued and dependent according to a wide type of dependence structure, and θi, 1 ? i ? n, are non negative and arbitrarily dependent, but independent of Xi, 1 ? i ? n. Under some mild conditions on the right tails of the weights θi, 1 ? i ? n, we establish some asymptotic equivalence formulas for the tail probabilities of Sn(θ) and Mn(θ) in the case where Xi, 1 ? i ? n, are dominatedly varying, long-tailed and subexponential distributions, respectively.  相似文献

Let X 1, X 2,…, X n be independent exponential random variables with X i having failure rate λ i for i = 1,…, n. Denote by D i:n  = X i:n  ? X i?1:n the ith spacing of the order statistics X 1:n  ≤ X 2:n  ≤ ··· ≤ X n:n , i = 1,…, n, where X 0:n ≡ 0. It is shown that if λ n+1 ≤ [≥] λ k for k = 1,…, n then D n:n  ≤ lr D n+1:n+1 and D 1:n  ≤ lr D 2:n+1 [D 2:n+1 ≤ lr D 2:n ], and that if λ i  + λ j  ≥ λ k for all distinct i,j, and k then D n?1:n  ≤ lr D n:n and D n:n+1 ≤ lr D n:n , where ≤ lr denotes the likelihood ratio order. We also prove that D 1:n  ≤ lr D 2:n for n ≥ 2 and D 2:3 ≤ lr D 3:3 for all λ i 's.  相似文献

Let Xl,…,Xn (Yl,…,Ym) be a random sample from an absolutely continuous distribution with distribution function F(G).A class of distribution-free tests based on U-statistics is proposed for testing the equality of F and G against the alternative that X's are more dispersed then Y's. Let 2 ? C ? n and 2 ? d ? m be two fixed integers. Let ?c,d(Xil,…,Xic ; Yjl,…,Xjd)=1(-1)when max as well as min of {Xil,…,Xic ; Yjl,…,Yjd } are some Xi's (Yj's)and zero oterwise. Let Sc,d be the U-statistic corresponding to ?c,d.In case of equal sample sizes, S22 is equivalent to Mood's Statistic.Large values of Sc,d are significant and these tests are quite efficient  相似文献

Consider two (n ? r + 1)-out-of-n systems, one with independent and non-identically distributed components and another with independent and identically distributed components. When the lifetimes of components follow the proportional hazard rates model, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the usual stochastic order to hold between the lifetimes of these two systems. For the special case of r = 2, some generalized forms of this result to the hazard rate, dispersive and likelihood ratio orders are also obtained. Moreover, for the case when the lifetimes of components follow the proportional reversed hazard rates model, we derive some similar results for comparing the lifetimes of two systems . Applications of the established results to different situations are finally illustrated.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be a bivariate random vector with joint distribution function FX, Y(x, y) = C(F(x), G(y)), where C is a copula and F and G are marginal distributions of X and Y, respectively. Suppose that (Xi, Yi), i = 1, 2, …, n is a random sample from (X, Y) but we are able to observe only the data consisting of those pairs (Xi, Yi) for which Xi ? Yi. We denote such pairs as (X*i, Yi*), i = 1, 2, …, ν, where ν is a random variable. The main problem of interest is to express the distribution function FX, Y(x, y) and marginal distributions F and G with the distribution function of observed random variables X* and Y*. It is shown that if X and Y are exchangeable with marginal distribution function F, then F can be uniquely determined by the distributions of X* and Y*. It is also shown that if X and Y are independent and absolutely continuous, then F and G can be expressed through the distribution functions of X* and Y* and the stress–strength reliability P{X ? Y}. This allows also to estimate P{X ? Y} with the truncated observations (X*i, Yi*). The copula of bivariate random vector (X*, Y*) is also derived.  相似文献

A sequence of independent lifetimes X 1, X 2,…, X m , X m+1,…, X n were observed from the mixture of a degenerate and left-truncated exponential (LTE) distribution, with reliability R at time τ and minimum life length η with unknown proportion p 1 and θ1 but later it was found that there was a change in the system at some point of time m and it is reflected in the sequence after X m by change in reliability R at time τ and unknown proportion p 2 and θ2. This distribution occurs in many practical situations, for instance; life of a unit may have a LTE distribution but some of the units fail instantaneously. Apart from mixture distributions, the phenomenon of change point is also observed in several situations in life testing and reliability estimation problems. It may happen that at some point of time instability in the sequence of failure times is observed. The problem of study is: When and where this change has started occurring. This is called change point inference problem. The estimators of m, R 1(t 0), R 2(t 0), p 1, and p 2 are derived under asymmetric loss functions namely Linex loss & general entropy loss functions. Both the non informative and informative prior are considered. The effects of prior consideration on Bayes estimates of change point are also studied.  相似文献
