The number of sterile couples in a retrospective study of the number of cycles to conception is necessarily zero; this is not so for a prospective study. The paper puts forward a modification of Weinberg and Gladen's beta geometric model for cycles to conception that is suitable for both types of investigation. The probability that a couple achieves conception at the xth cycle, but not earlier, is assumed to take the form Rx = (1 ? ρ)/(1 ? m x?1 ρ/u), instead of μ/(1 ? θ + θx). The set of parameter restraints (0 < m < 1, 0< ρ < 1, 1 < u) is appropriate for retrospective data, whilst the alternative set of restraints (1 < m, 1 < ρ, 0 < u < 1) is appropriate for prospective data. The decrease in Rx over time can be interpreted not only as a time effect, but also as a heterogeneity effect by replacing Weinberg and Gladen's beta mixture of geometric distributions by a q-beta mixture.  相似文献

In this article, another version of the generalized exponential geometric distribution different to that of Silva et al. (2010 Silva , R. B. , Barreto-Souza , W. , Cordeiro , G. M. ( 2010 ). A new distribution with decreasing, increasing and upside-down bathtub failure rate. Computat. Statist. Data Anal. 54: 935–944 . [Google Scholar]) is proposed. This new three-parameter lifetime distribution with decreasing, increasing, and bathtub failure rate function is created by compounding the generalized exponential distribution of Gupta and Kundu (1999 Gupta , R. D. , Kundu , D. ( 1999 ). Generalized exponential distributions . Austral. NZ J. Statist. 41 ( 2 ): 173188 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) with a geometric distribution. Some basic distributional properties, moment-generating function, rth moment, and Rényi entropy of the new distribution are studied. The model parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood method and the asymptotic distribution of estimators is discussed. Finally, an application of the new distribution is illustrated using the two real data sets.  相似文献

The q-Weibull distribution is a stretched model for Weibull distribution, obtained by introducing a new pathway parameter q, which facilitates a slow transition to the Weibull as q → 1. In this article, we make a detailed study of the properties of the q-Weibull distribution and we apply it to a data on cancer remission times for which this distribution is a better fit than Weibull. Results relating to reliability properties, estimation of parameters, and applications in stress-strength analysis are also obtained.  相似文献

We study the joint distribution of X and N, where N has a geometric distribution and X is the maximum of N i.i.d. exponential variables, independent of N. We present basic properties of these mixed bivariate distributions and discuss parameter estimation for this model. An example from finance, where N represents the number of consecutive positive daily log-returns of currency exchange rates, illustrates stochastic modeling potential of these laws.  相似文献

The failure rate r(t) is assumed to have the shape of the"first"part of the"bathtub"model, i.e.r(t) is non-increasing for t<r and is constant for t> r. Asymptotic distribution of one of the estimates proposed earlier has been investigated in this paper. This leads to a test for the hypothesis HQ r<r 0 vs H :r>r (where TQ > 0). Asymptotic expression for the power of this test under Pitman alternatives is derived. Some simulations are reported.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We have provided a fractional generalization of the Poisson renewal processes by replacing the first time derivative in the relaxation equation of the survival probability by a fractional derivative of order α(0 < α ? 1). A generalized Laplacian model associated with the Mittag-Leffler distribution is examined. We also discuss some properties of this new model and its relevance to time series. Distribution of gliding sums, regression behaviors, and sample path properties are studied. Finally we introduce the q-Mittag-Leffler process associated with the q-Mittag-Leffler distribution.  相似文献

In this article, we attempt to introduce a discrete analog of the generalized exponential distribution of Gupta and Kundu (1999 Gupta , R. D. and Kundu , D. ( 1999 ). Generalized exponential distributions . Austral. NZ J. Statist. 41 ( 2 ): 173188 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). This new discrete generalized exponential (DGE(α, p)) distribution can be viewed as another generalization of the geometric distribution and it is more flexible in data modeling. We shall first study some basic distributional and moment properties of this family of new distributions. Then, we will reveal their structural properties and applications and also investigate estimation of their parameters. Finally, we shall discuss their convolution properties and arrive at some characterizations in the special cases DGE(2, p) and DGE(3, p).  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of reliability R = P(Y < X) when X is a random strength of a component subjected to a random stress Y, and (X, Y) follows a bivariate Rayleigh distribution. The maximum likelihood estimator of R and its asymptotic distribution are obtained. An asymptotic confidence interval of R is constructed using the asymptotic distribution. Also, two confidence intervals are proposed based on Bootstrap method and a computational approach. Testing of the reliability based on asymptotic distribution of R is discussed. Simulation study to investigate performance of the confidence intervals and tests has been carried out. Also, a numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed approaches.  相似文献

In this study, we introduce the Heine process, {Xq(t), t > 0}, 0 < q < 1, where the random variable Xq(t), for every t > 0, represents the number of events (occurrences or arrivals) during a time interval (0, t]. The Heine process is introduced as a q-analog of the basic Poisson process. Also, in this study, we prove that the distribution of the waiting time Wν, q, ν ? 1, up to the νth arrival, is a q-Erlang distribution and the interarrival times Tk, q = Wk, q ? Wk ? 1, q,?k = 1, 2, …, ν with W0, q = 0 are independent and equidistributed with a q-Exponential distribution.  相似文献

A sequence of independent lifetimes X 1, X 2,…, X m , X m+1,… X n were observed from geometric population with parameter q 1 but later it was found that there was a change in the system at some point of time m and it is reflected in the sequence after X m by change in parameter q 2. The Bayes estimates of m, q 1, q 2, reliability R 1 (t) and R 2 (t) at time t are derived for symmetric and asymmetric loss functions under informative and non informative priors. A simulation study is carried out.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Though the Pareto distribution is important to actuaries and economists, an exact expression for the distribution of the sum of n i.i.d. Pareto variates has been difficult to obtain in general. This article considers Pareto random variables with common probability density function (pdf) f(x) = (α/β) (1 + x/β)α+1 for x > 0, where α = 1,2,… and β > 0 is a scale parameter. To date, explicit expressions are known only for a few special cases: (i) α = 1 and n = 1,2,3; (ii) 0 < α < 1 and n = 1,2,…; and (iii) 1 < α < 2 and n = 1,2,…. New expressions are provided for the more general case where β > 0, and α and n are positive integers. Laplace transforms and generalized exponential integrals are used to derive these expressions, which involve integrals of real valued functions on the positive real line. An important attribute of these expressions is that the integrands involved are non oscillating.  相似文献

Conditions for the general Moving Average process, of order q, to be invertible or borderline non-invertible are deduced. These are termed the acceptability conditions. It turns out that they depend on the magnitude of the final moving average parameter, θ q . If ‖θ q ‖ >1, the process is not acceptable. Should ‖θ q ‖ = 1, the conditions, for any particular q, follow simply - if use is made of the remainder theorem. When ‖θq‖< 1, an appeal is made to ROUCH* E'S theorem, to establish the conditions. Analogous stationarity results immediately follow for autoregressive processes.  相似文献

We study a new family of distributions defined by the minimum of the Poisson random number of independent identically distributed random variables having a general exponentiated G distribution. Some mathematical properties of the new family including ordinary and incomplete moments, quantile and generating functions, mean deviations, order statistics and their moments, reliability, and Shannon entropy are derived. Maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters is investigated. Two special models of the new family are discussed. We perform an application to a real data set to show the potentiality of the proposed family.  相似文献

A new four-parameter distribution with decreasing, increasing, and upside-down bathtub failure rate called the beta exponential-geometric distribution is proposed. The new distribution, generated from the logit of a beta random variable, extends the exponential-geometric distribution of Adamidis and Loukas (1998 Adamidis , K. , Loukas , S. ( 1998 ). A lifetime distribution with decreasing failure rate . Statistics and Probability Letters 39 : 3542 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) and some other distributions. A comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution is provided. Some expressions for the moment generating function, moments, order statistics, and Rényi entropy of the new distribution are derived. Estimation of the stress-strength parameter is also obtained. The model parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood method and Fisher information matrix is discussed. Finally, an application to a real data set is illustrated.  相似文献

Abstract

We give a sufficient condition for the exponential decay of the tail of a discrete probability distribution π = (π n ) n≥0 in the sense that lim n→∞(1/n) log∑ i>n π i  = ?θ with 0 < θ < ∞. We focus on analytic properties of the probability generating function of a discrete probability distribution, especially, the radius of convergence and the number of poles on the circle of convergence. Furthermore, we give an example of an M/G/1 type Markov chain such that the tail of its stationary distribution does not decay exponentially.  相似文献

Generalizing lifetime distributions is always precious for applied statisticians. In this paper, we introduce a new four-parameter generalization of the exponentiated power Lindley (EPL) distribution, called the exponentiated power Lindley geometric (EPLG) distribution, obtained by compounding EPL and geometric distributions. The new distribution arises in a latent complementary risks scenario, in which the lifetime associated with a particular risk is not observable; rather, we observe only the maximum lifetime value among all risks. The distribution exhibits decreasing, increasing, unimodal and bathtub-shaped hazard rate functions, depending on its parameters. It contains several lifetime distributions as particular cases: EPL, new generalized Lindley, generalized Lindley, power Lindley and Lindley geometric distributions. We derive several properties of the new distribution such as closed-form expressions for the density, cumulative distribution function, survival function, hazard rate function, the rth raw moment, and also the moments of order statistics. Moreover, we discuss maximum likelihood estimation and provide formulas for the elements of the Fisher information matrix. Simulation studies are also provided. Finally, two real data applications are given for showing the flexibility and potentiality of the new distribution.  相似文献

We derive a generalization of the exponential distribution by making log transformation of the standard two-sided power distribution. We show that this new generalization is in fact a mixture of a truncated exponential distribution and truncated generalized exponential distribution introduced by Gupta and Kundu [Generalized exponential distributions. Aust. N. Z. J. Stat. 41(1999):173–188]. The newly defined distribution is more flexible for modeling data than the ordinary exponential distribution. We study its properties, estimate the parameters, and demonstrate it on some well-known real data sets comparing other existing methods.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of R=P[X<Y] when X and Y come from two independent generalized logistic distributions with different parameters. The maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) and its asymptotic distribution are proposed. The asymptotic distribution is used to construct an asymptotic confidence interval of R. Assuming that the common scale parameter is known, the MLE, uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator, Bayes estimation and confidence interval of R are obtained. The MLE of R, asymptotic distribution of R in the general case, is also discussed. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the different proposed methods. Analysis of a real data set has also been presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献
