As an applicable and flexible lifetime model, the two-parameter generalized half-normal (GHN) distribution has been received wide attention in the field of reliability analysis and lifetime study. In this paper maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters are discussed and we also proposed corresponding bias-corrected estimates. Unweighted and weighted least squares estimates for the parameters of the GHN distribution are also presented for comparison purpose. Moreover, the likelihood ratio test is provided as complementary. Simulation study and illustrative examples are provided to compare the performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

In this article, we establish strong consistency of the ridge estimates using extended results for the strong consistency of the least squares estimates in multiple regression models which discard the usual assumption of null mean value for the errors and only requires them to be i.i.d. with absolute moment of order r (0 < r ? 1).  相似文献

The paper develops a method from which algorithms can be constructed to numerically compute error-free (free from computer roundoff error) generalized inverses and solutions to linear least squares problems having rational entries. A multiple modulus system is used to avoid error accumulation that is inherent in the floating-point number system. Some properties of finite fields of characteristic p, GF(p), are used in conjunction with a bordering method for matrix inversion to find nonsingular minors of a matrix over the field of rational numbers.  相似文献

Let X be a random n-vector whose density function is given by a mixture of known multivariate normal density functions where the corresponding mixture proportions (a priori probabilities) are unknown. We present a numerically tractable method for obtaining estimates of the mixture proportions based on the linear feature selection technique of Guseman, Peters and Walker (1975).  相似文献

We consider estimation in the single‐index model where the link function is monotone. For this model, a profile least‐squares estimator has been proposed to estimate the unknown link function and index. Although it is natural to propose this procedure, it is still unknown whether it produces index estimates that converge at the parametric rate. We show that this holds if we solve a score equation corresponding to this least‐squares problem. Using a Lagrangian formulation, we show how one can solve this score equation without any reparametrization. This makes it easy to solve the score equations in high dimensions. We also compare our method with the effective dimension reduction and the penalized least‐squares estimator methods, both available on CRAN as R packages, and compare with link‐free methods, where the covariates are elliptically symmetric.  相似文献

Let X be a random n-vector whose density function is given by a mixtur.e of two density functions, h1 and h2 with unknown mixture proportions, Y1 and Y2 We assume that each of h1 and h2 is a convex combination of known multivariate normal density functions whose corresponding mixture proportions are also unknown. We present three numerically tractable methods for estimating Y1 and Y2 related to the technique of Guseman and Walton (1977), and based on the linear feature selection technique of Guseman, Peters and Walker (1975).  相似文献

Many estimation procedures have been proposed for estimating variance components in unbalanced factorial models. A large proportion of these are based on the solution to a system of linear equations obtained from a set of quadratic forms and their expected value. This paper will present a numerical study of the small sample variance of eight variance component estimators of this type. The variances will be compared to the Bhattacharyya lower bound for unbiased estimators.  相似文献

Estimation of a regression function from independent and identical distributed data is considered. The L2 error with integration with respect to the design measure is used as error criterion. Upper bounds on the L2 error of least squares regression estimates are presented, which bound the error of the estimate in case that in the sample given to the estimate the values of the independent and the dependent variables are pertubated by some arbitrary procedure. The bounds are applied to analyze regression-based Monte Carlo methods for pricing American options in case of errors in modelling the price process.  相似文献

In the health and social sciences, researchers often encounter categorical data for which complexities come from a nested hierarchy and/or cross-classification for the sampling structure. A common feature of these studies is a non-standard data structure with repeated measurements which may have some degree of clustering. In this paper, methodology is presented for the joint estimation of quantities of interest in the context of a stratified two-stage sample with bivariate dichotomous data. These quantities are the mean value π of an observed dichotomous response for a certain condition or time-point and a set of correlation coefficients for intra-cluster association for each condition or time period and for inter-condition correlation within and among clusters. The methodology uses the cluster means and pairwise joint probability parameters from each cluster. They together provide appropriate information across clusters for the estimation of the correlation coefficients.  相似文献

We establish strong consistency of the least squares estimates in multiple regression models discarding the usual assumption of the errors having null mean value. Thus, we required them to be i.i.d. with absolute moment of order r, 0<r<2, and null mean value when r>1. Only moderately restrictive conditions are imposed on the model matrix. In our treatment, we use an extension of the Marcinkiewicz–Zygmund strong law to overcome the errors mean value not being defined. In this way, we get a unified treatment for the case of i.i.d. errors extending the results of some previous papers.  相似文献

Iterative procedures are developed for finding maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters of mixtures of two inverse Gaussian distributions. The performance of the estimates based on small samples is studied by simulation experiments. Asymptotic efficiencies relative to estimates based on completely classified samples are also evaluated. Unless the components of the populations are widely separated, the maximum likelihood estimates perform poorly.  相似文献

In this study we investigate the problem of estimation and testing of hypotheses in multivariate linear regression models when the errors involved are assumed to be non-normally distributed. We consider the class of heavy-tailed distributions for this purpose. Although our method is applicable for any distribution in this class, we take the multivariate t-distribution for illustration. This distribution has applications in many fields of applied research such as Economics, Business, and Finance. For estimation purpose, we use the modified maximum likelihood method in order to get the so-called modified maximum likelihood estimates that are obtained in a closed form. We show that these estimates are substantially more efficient than least-square estimates. They are also found to be robust to reasonable deviations from the assumed distribution and also many data anomalies such as the presence of outliers in the sample, etc. We further provide test statistics for testing the relevant hypothesis regarding the regression coefficients.  相似文献

This paper contains an application of the asymptotic expansion of a pFp() function to a problem encountered in econometrics. In particular we consider an approximation of the distribution function of the limited information maximum likelihood (LIML) identifiability test statistic using the method of moments. An expression for the Sth order asymptotic approximation of the moments of the LIML identifiability test statistic is derived and tabulated. The exact distribution function of the test statistic is approximated by a member of the class of F (variance ratio) distribution functions having the same first two integer moments. Some tabulations of the approximating distribution function are included.  相似文献

The recursive least squares technique is often extended with exponential forgetting as a tool for parameter estimation in time-varying systems. The distribution of the resulting parameter estimates is, however, unknown when the forgetting factor is less than one. In this paper an approximative expression for bias of the recursively obtained parameter estimates in a time-invariant AR( na ) process with arbitrary noise is given, showing that the bias is non-zero and giving bounds on the approximation errors. Simulations confirm the approximation expressions.  相似文献

Based on progressively Type-I interval censored sample, the problem of estimating unknown parameters of a two parameter generalized half-normal(GHN) distribution is considered. Different methods of estimation are discussed. They include the maximum likelihood estimation, midpoint approximation method, approximate maximum likelihood estimation, method of moments, and estimation based on probability plot. Several Bayesian estimates with respect to different symmetric and asymmetric loss functions such as squared error, LINEX, and general entropy is calculated. The Lindley’s approximation method is applied to determine Bayesian estimates. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the different methods. Finally, analysis is also carried out for a real dataset.  相似文献

An efficient method for computing minimum norm quadratic unbiased estimates (MINQUE) of variance components and generalized least squares estimates of the fixed effects in the mixed model is developed. The computing algorithm uses a modification of the W transformation.  相似文献

Summary The use of shifted (or zero-truncated) generalized Poisson distribution to describe the occurrence of events in production processes is considered. The methods of moments and maximum likelihood are proposed for estimating the parameters of shifted generalized Poisson distribution. Control charts for the total number of events and for the average number of events are developed. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the construction of control charts.  相似文献

The main objective of the study is to compare four different procedures to test for the stability of regression coefficients. The comparisons are based on a numerical study and are with respect to their abilities to detect various simple forms of parameter instabilities. Besides the power comparisons a special interest is directed towards the choice of “window length” in the tests based on moving sums of squared recursive and ordinary least-squares residuals.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of estimating unknown parameters of a two-parameter Kumaraswamy-Exponential (Kw-E) distribution is considered based on progressively type-II censored sample. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimators of the parameters are obtained. Bayes estimates are also obtained using different loss functions such as squared error, LINEX and general entropy. Lindley's approximation method is used to evaluate these Bayes estimates. Monte Carlo simulation is used for numerical comparison between various estimates developed in this paper.  相似文献

Equivalent conditions are derived for the equality of GLSE (generalized least squares estimator) and partially GLSE (PGLSE), the latter introduced by Amemiya (1983). By adopting a more general approach the ordinary least squares estimator (OLSE) can shown to be a special PGLSE. Furthcrmore, linearly restricted estimators proposed by Balestra (1983) are investigated in this context. To facilitate the comparison of estimators extensive use of oblique and orthogonal projectors is made.  相似文献
