ABSTRACT

We propose a Bayesian approach to obtaining control charts when there is parameter uncertainty. Our approach consists of two stages, (i) construction of the control chart where we use a predictive distribution based on a Bayesian approach to derive the rejection region, and (ii) evaluation of the control chart where we use a sampling theory approach to examine the performance of the control chart under various hypothetical specifications for the data generation model.  相似文献

This article develops a control chart for a mean vector when it is monitored by a quadratic form in the exponentially weighted observation vector. A Bayesian approach is used to incorporate parameter uncertainty. We first use a Bayesian predictive distribution to construct the control chart, and we then use a sampling theory approach to evaluate it under various hypothetical specifications for the data generation model.  相似文献

This article develops combined exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts for the mean and variance of a normal distribution. A Bayesian approach is used to incorporate parameter uncertainty. We first use a Bayesian predictive distribution to construct the control chart, and we then use a sampling theory approach to evaluate it under various hypothetical specifications for the data generation model. Simulations are used to compare the proposed charts for different values of both the weighing constant for the exponentially weighted moving averages and for the size of the calibration sample that is used to estimate the in-statistical-control process parameters. We also examine the separate performance of the EWMA chart for the variance.  相似文献

Recently, several new applications of control chart procedures for short production runs have been introduced. Bothe (1989) and Burr (1989) proposed the use of control chart statistics which are obtained by scaling the quality characteristic by target values or process estimates of a location and scale parameter. The performance of these control charts can be significantly affected by the use of incorrect scaling parameters, resulting in either an excessive "false alarm rate," or insensitivity to the detection of moderate shifts in the process. To correct for these deficiencies, Quesenberry (1990, 1991) has developed the Q-Chart which is formed from running process estimates of the sample mean and variance. For the case where both the process mean and variance are unknown, the Q-chaxt statistic is formed from the standard inverse Z-transformation of a t-statistic. Q-charts do not perform correctly, however, in the presence of special cause disturbances at process startup. This has recently been supported by results published by Del Castillo and Montgomery (1992), who recommend the use of an alternative control chart procedure which is based upon a first-order adaptive Kalman filter model Consistent with the recommendations by Castillo and Montgomery, we propose an alternative short run control chart procedure which is based upon the second order dynamic linear model (DLM). The control chart is shown to be useful for the early detection of unwanted process trends. Model and control chart parameters are updated sequentially in a Bayesian estimation framework, providing the greatest degree of flexibility in the level of prior information which is incorporated into the model. The result is a weighted moving average control chart statistic which can be used to provide running estimates of process capability. The average run length performance of the control chart is compared to the optimal performance of the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart, as reported by Gan (1991). Using a simulation approach, the second order DLM control chart is shown to provide better overall performance than the EWMA for short production run applications  相似文献

The usual practice in using a Bayesian control chart to monitor a process is done by taking samples from the process with fixed sampling intervals. Recent studies on traditional control charts have shown that variable sampling interval (VSI) scheme compared to classical scheme (fixed ratio sampling, FRS) helps practitioners to detect process shifts more quickly. In this paper, the effectiveness of VSI scheme on performance of Bayesian control chart has been studied, based on economic (ED) and economic–statistical designs (ESD). Monte Carlo method and artificial bee colony algorithm have been utilized to obtain optimal design parameters of Bayesian control chart (sample size, sampling intervals, warning limit and control limit) since the statistic of this approach does not have any specified distribution. Finally, VSI Bayesian control chart has been compared to FRS Bayesian and VSI X-bar approaches based on ED and ESD, separately. According to the results, it has been found that the performance of VSI Bayesian scheme is better than FRS Bayesian and VSI X-bar approaches.  相似文献

Bayesian control charts have been proposed for monitoring multivariate processes with the multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) statistic. It has been suggested that we use limits based on the predictive distribution of the MEWMA statistic. This analysis, however is based on the erroneous result that the average run length (ARL) is a function of the exceedance probability, that is, the probability that the first point exceeds the control limit. We show how this result can be corrected and we discuss how the Bayesian MEWMA chart with limits based on the predictive distribution compares with other multivariate control chart procedures.  相似文献

This paper develops a Bayesian control chart for the percentiles of the Weibull distribution, when both its in‐control and out‐of‐control parameters are unknown. The Bayesian approach enhances parameter estimates for small sample sizes that occur when monitoring rare events such as in high‐reliability applications. The chart monitors the parameters of the Weibull distribution directly, instead of transforming the data as most Weibull‐based charts do in order to meet normality assumption. The chart uses accumulated knowledge resulting from the likelihood of the current sample combined with the information given by both the initial prior knowledge and all the past samples. The chart is adapting because its control limits change (e.g. narrow) during Phase I. An example is presented and good average run length properties are demonstrated.  相似文献

This article deals with the construction of an X? control chart using the Bayesian perspective. We obtain new control limits for the X? chart for exponentially distributed data-generating processes through the sequential use of Bayes’ theorem and credible intervals. Construction of the control chart is illustrated using a simulated data example. The performance of the proposed, standard, tolerance interval, exponential cumulative sum (CUSUM) and exponential exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control limits are examined and compared via a Monte Carlo simulation study. The proposed Bayesian control limits are found to perform better than standard, tolerance interval, exponential EWMA and exponential CUSUM control limits for exponentially distributed processes.  相似文献

This article develops a control chart for the mean and variance of a normal distribution based on changepoint methodology. A Bayesian approach is used to incorporate parameter uncertainty. The resulting control chart plots the probabilities of “no change” as samples become available at the monitoring stage. Average run length considerations are used to set the control limits. Simulations are used to compare the proposed chart with a more traditional Shewhart-type combined control chart for the mean and variance.  相似文献

In this paper, a multivariate Bayesian variable sampling interval (VSI) control chart for the economic design and optimization of statistical parameters is designed. Based on the VSI sampling strategy of a multivariate Bayesian control chart with dual control limits, the optimal expected cost function is constructed. The proposed model allows the determination of the scheme parameters that minimize the expected cost per time of the process. The effectiveness of the Bayesian VSI chart is estimated through economic comparisons with the Bayesian fixed sampling interval and the Hotelling's T2 chart. This study is an in-depth study on a Bayesian multivariate control chart with variable parameter. Furthermore, it is shown that significant cost improvement may be realized through the new model.  相似文献

This article develops a control chart for the variance of a normal distribution and, equivalently, the coefficient of variation of a log-normal distribution. A Bayesian approach is used to incorporate parameter uncertainty, and the control limits are obtained from the predictive distribution for the variance. We evaluate this control chart by examining its performance for various values of the process variance.  相似文献

A change-point control chart for detecting shifts in the mean of a process is developed for the case where the nominal value of the mean is unknown but some historical samples are available. This control chart is a nonparametric chart based on the Mann–Whitney statistic for a change in mean and adapted for repeated sequential use. We do not require any knowledge of the underlying distribution such as the normal assumption. Particularly, this distribution robustness could be a significant advantage in start-up or short-run situations where we usually do not have knowledge of the underlying distribution. The simulated results show that our approach has a good performance across the range of possible shifts and it can be used during the start-up stages of the process.   相似文献

Some control charts have been proposed to monitor the mean of a Weibull process with type-I censoring. One type of control charts is to monitor changes in the scale parameter because it indicates changes in the mean. With this approach, we compare different control charts such as Shewhart-type and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts based on conditional expected value (CEV) and cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart based on likelihood-ratio. A simulation approach is employed to compute control limits and average run lengths. The results show that the CUSUM chart has the best performance. However, the EWMA-CEV chart is recommendable for practitioners with its competitive performance and ease of use advantage. An illustrative example is also provided.  相似文献

One difficulty with developing multivariate attribute control charts is the lack of the related joint distribution. So, if it would be possible to generate the joint distribution of two (or more) attribute characteristics, then a bivaraite (or multivariate) attribute control chart can be developed based on Types I and II errors. Copula function is a solution to the matter. In this article, applying the copula function approach, we achieve the joint distribution of two correlated zero inflated Poisson (ZIP) distributions. Then, using this joint distribution, we develop a bivaraite control chart which can be used for monitoring correlated rare events. This copula-based bivariate ZIP control chart is compared with the simultaneous use of two separate univariate ZIP control charts. Based on the average run length (ARL) measure, it is shown that the proposed control chart is much better than the simultaneous use of two separate univariate charts. In addition, a real case study related to the environmental air in a sterilization process is investigated to show the applicability of the developed control chart.  相似文献

Bayesian quantile regression for single-index models   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Using an asymmetric Laplace distribution, which provides a mechanism for Bayesian inference of quantile regression models, we develop a fully Bayesian approach to fitting single-index models in conditional quantile regression. In this work, we use a Gaussian process prior for the unknown nonparametric link function and a Laplace distribution on the index vector, with the latter motivated by the recent popularity of the Bayesian lasso idea. We design a Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for posterior inference. Careful consideration of the singularity of the kernel matrix, and tractability of some of the full conditional distributions leads to a partially collapsed approach where the nonparametric link function is integrated out in some of the sampling steps. Our simulations demonstrate the superior performance of the Bayesian method versus the frequentist approach. The method is further illustrated by an application to the hurricane data.  相似文献

This paper examines methodology for performing Bayesian inference sequentially on a sequence of posteriors on spaces of different dimensions. For this, we use sequential Monte Carlo samplers, introducing the innovation of using deterministic transformations to move particles effectively between target distributions with different dimensions. This approach, combined with adaptive methods, yields an extremely flexible and general algorithm for Bayesian model comparison that is suitable for use in applications where the acceptance rate in reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo is low. We use this approach on model comparison for mixture models, and for inferring coalescent trees sequentially, as data arrives.  相似文献

The exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts are widely used in chemical and process industries because of their excellent speed in catching small to moderate shifts in the process target. In usual practice, many data come from a process where the monitoring statistic is non-normally distributed or it follows an unknown probability distribution. This necessitates the use of distribution-free/nonparametric control charts for monitoring the deviations from the process target. In this paper, we integrate the existing EWMA sign chart with the conforming run length chart to propose a new synthetic EWMA (SynEWMA) sign chart for monitoring the process mean. The SynEWMA sign chart encompasses the synthetic sign and EWMA sign charts. Monte Carlo simulations are used to compute the run length profiles of the SynEWMA sign chart. Based on a comprehensive comparison, it turns out that the SynEWMA sign chart is able to perform substantially better than the existing EWMA sign chart. Both real and simulated data sets are used to explain the working and implementation of existing and proposed control charts.  相似文献

Frequently in process monitoring, situations arise in which the order that events occur cannot be distinguished, motivating the need to accommodate multiple observations occurring at the same time, or concurrent observations. The risk-adjusted Bernoulli cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart can be used to monitor the rate of an adverse event by fitting a risk-adjustment model, followed by a likelihood ratio-based scoring method that produces a statistic that can be monitored. In our paper, we develop a risk-adjusted Bernoulli CUSUM control chart for concurrent observations. Furthermore, we adopt a novel approach that uses a combined mixture model and kernel density estimation approach in order to perform risk-adjustment with regard to spatial location. Our proposed method allows for monitoring binary outcomes through time with multiple observations at each time point, where the chart is spatially adjusted for each Bernoulli observation's estimated probability of the adverse event. A simulation study is presented to assess the performance of the proposed monitoring scheme. We apply our method using data from Wayne County, Michigan between 2005 and 2014 to monitor the rate of foreclosure as a percentage of all housing transactions.  相似文献

We investigate the posterior rate of convergence for wavelet shrinkage using a Bayesian approach in general Besov spaces. Instead of studying the Bayesian estimator related to a particular loss function, we focus on the posterior distribution itself from a nonparametric Bayesian asymptotics point of view and study its rate of convergence. We obtain the same rate as in Abramovich et al. (2004) where the authors studied the convergence of several Bayesian estimators.  相似文献

The study of HIV dynamics is one of the most important developments in recent AIDS research for understanding the pathogenesis of HIV-1 infection and antiviral treatment strategies. Currently a large number of AIDS clinical trials on HIV dynamics are in development worldwide. However, many design issues that arise from AIDS clinical trials have not been addressed. In this paper, we use a simulation-based approach to deal with design problems in Bayesian hierarchical nonlinear (mixed-effects) models. The underlying model characterizes the long-term viral dynamics with antiretroviral treatment where we directly incorporate drug susceptibility and exposure into a function of treatment efficacy. The Bayesian design method is investigated under the framework of hierarchical Bayesian (mixed-effects) models. We compare a finite number of feasible candidate designs numerically, which are currently used in AIDS clinical trials from different perspectives, and provide guidance on how a design might be chosen in practice.  相似文献
