In this article, the problem of testing the equality of coefficients of variation in a multivariate normal population is considered, and an asymptotic approach and a generalized p-value approach based on the concepts of generalized test variable are proposed. Monte Carlo simulation studies show that the proposed generalized p-value test has good empirical sizes, and it is better than the asymptotic approach. In addition, the problem of hypothesis testing and confidence interval for the common coefficient variation of a multivariate normal population are considered, and a generalized p-value and a generalized confidence interval are proposed. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we find that the coverage probabilities and expected lengths of this generalized confidence interval are satisfactory, and the empirical sizes of the generalized p-value are close to nominal level. We illustrate our approaches using a real data.  相似文献

This article studies the hypothesis testing and interval estimation for the among-group variance component in unbalanced heteroscedastic one-fold nested design. Based on the concepts of generalized p-value and generalized confidence interval, tests and confidence intervals for the among-group variance component are developed. Furthermore, some simulation results are presented to compare the performance of the proposed approach with those of existing approaches. It is found that the proposed approach and one of the existing approaches can maintain the nominal confidence level across a wide array of scenarios, and therefore are recommended to use in practical problems. Finally, a real example is illustrated.  相似文献

In this article, we investigated the bootstrap calibrated generalized confidence limits for process capability indices C pk for the one-way random effect model. Also, we derived Bissell's approximation formula for the lower confidence limit using Satterthwaite's method and calculated its coverage probabilities and expected values. Then we compared it with standard bootstrap (SB) method and generalized confidence interval method. The simulation results indicate that the confidence limit obtained offers satisfactory coverage probabilities. The proposed method is illustrated with the help of simulation studies and data sets.  相似文献

This study aims to provide a reliable confidence interval for assessing the process incapability index [Cpp]. The concept of the generalized pivotal quantities is utilized for constructing the generalized confidence interval for [Cpp]. And, simulations are performed for demonstrating our proposed method and one existent method. The results show that the empirical confidences of these two methods are significantly affected by the degree of process departure. Therefore, we suggest the practitioners to select proper one for capability testing purpose based on the information of degree of process departure.  相似文献

Based on the idea of generalized likelihood ratio method, a new generalized p-value is derived. Some simulation results are presented to compare the performance of the proposed method and existing methods. In this article, the hypothesis testing and interval estimation for the reliability parameter are considered in balanced and unbalanced one-way random models. The tests and confidence intervals for the reliability parameter are developed using the concepts of generalized p-value and generalized confidence interval. Furthermore, some simulation results are presented to compare the performances between the proposed approach and the existing approach. For balanced models, the simulation results indicate that the proposed approach can provide satisfactory coverage probabilities and performs better than the existing approaches across the wide array of scenarios, especially for small sample sizes. For unbalanced models, the simulation results show that the two proposed approaches perform more satisfactorily than the existing approach in most cases. Finally, the proposed approaches are illustrated using two real examples.  相似文献

Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves can be used to assess the accuracy of tests measured on ordinal or continuous scales. The most commonly used measure for the overall diagnostic accuracy of diagnostic tests is the area under the ROC curve (AUC). A gold standard (GS) test on the true disease status is required to estimate the AUC. However, a GS test may be too expensive or infeasible. In many medical researches, the true disease status of the subjects may remain unknown. Under the normality assumption on test results from each disease group of subjects, we propose a heuristic method of estimating confidence intervals for the difference in paired AUCs of two diagnostic tests in the absence of a GS reference. This heuristic method is a three-stage method by combining the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm, bootstrap method, and an estimation based on asymptotic generalized pivotal quantities (GPQs) to construct generalized confidence intervals for the difference in paired AUCs in the absence of a GS. Simulation results show that the proposed interval estimation procedure yields satisfactory coverage probabilities and expected interval lengths. The numerical example using a published dataset illustrates the proposed method.  相似文献

This article presents procedures for testing hypothesis and interval estimation of the common mean vector in MANOVA models when the covariance matrices are unknown and unequal. The methods are based on the concepts of generalized p-value and generalized confidence interval. Some important statistical properties of the exact test and confidence region are given. For two multivariate normal populations, a minor modification to the combined tests given by Zhou and Mathew (1994a Zhou , L. P. , Mathew , T. ( 1994a ). Combining independent tests in multivariate linear models . J. Multivariate Anal. 51 : 265276 . [Google Scholar]) is proposed. Some simulation results to compare the performance of the proposed tests with others are reported. The simulation results indicate that new tests have significant gain in the power.  相似文献

The power-law process is widely used in the analysis of repairable system reliability. In this article, interval estimation for the scale parameter is investigated under some general conditions. A procedure to derive a generalized confidence interval for the scale parameter is presented. We also study the accuracy of the generalized confidence interval by Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, two examples are shown to illustrate the proposed procedure.  相似文献

In the cases with three ordinal diagnostic groups, the important measures of diagnostic accuracy are the volume under surface (VUS) and the partial volume under surface (PVUS) which are the extended forms of the area under curve (AUC) and the partial area under curve (PAUC). This article addresses confidence interval estimation of the difference in paired VUS s and the difference in paired PVUS s. To focus especially on studies with small to moderate sample sizes, we propose an approach based on the concepts of generalized inference. A Monte Carlo study demonstrates that the proposed approach generally can provide confidence intervals with reasonable coverage probabilities even at small sample sizes. The proposed approach is compared to a parametric bootstrap approach and a large sample approach through simulation. Finally, the proposed approach is illustrated via an application to a data set of blood test results of anemia patients.  相似文献

A method is proposed to construct simultaneous confidence intervals for multiple linear combinations of generalized linear model parameters, that uses a multivariate normal- or t-distribution together with the signed likelihood root statistic. In an application to a case study simultaneous confidence bands for logistic regression are calculated. A simulation study based on the example evaluation suggests superior performance compared to the common Wald-type approaches. The proposed methods are readily implemented in the R extension package mcprofile.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The correlation coefficient (CC) is a standard measure of a possible linear association between two continuous random variables. The CC plays a significant role in many scientific disciplines. For a bivariate normal distribution, there are many types of confidence intervals for the CC, such as z-transformation and maximum likelihood-based intervals. However, when the underlying bivariate distribution is unknown, the construction of confidence intervals for the CC is not well-developed. In this paper, we discuss various interval estimation methods for the CC. We propose a generalized confidence interval for the CC when the underlying bivariate distribution is a normal distribution, and two empirical likelihood-based intervals for the CC when the underlying bivariate distribution is unknown. We also conduct extensive simulation studies to compare the new intervals with existing intervals in terms of coverage probability and interval length. Finally, two real examples are used to demonstrate the application of the proposed methods.  相似文献

Many procedures exist for testing equality of means or medians to compare several independent distributions. However, the mean or median do not determine the entire distribution. In this article, we propose a new small-sample modification of the likelihood ratio test for testing the equality of the quantiles of several normal distributions. The merits of the proposed test are numerically compared with the existing tests—a generalized p-value method and likelihood ratio test—with respect to their sizes and powers. The simulation results demonstrate that proposed method is satisfactory; its actual size is very close to the nominal level. We illustrate these approaches using two real examples.  相似文献

For the sign testing problem about the normal variances, we develop the heuristic testing procedure based on the concept of generalized test variable and generalized p-value. A detailed simulation study is conducted to empirically investigate the performance of the proposed method. Through the simulation study, especially in small sample sizes, the proposed test not only adequately controls empirical size at the nominal level, but also uniformly more powerful than likelihood ratio test, Gutmann's test, Li and Sinha's test and Liu and Chan's test, showing that the proposed method can be recommended in practice. The proposed method is illustrated with the published data.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the interval estimation problem on the process capability indices in general random effect model with balanced data. The confidence intervals for three commonly used process capability indices are developed by using the concept of generalized confidence interval. Furthermore, some simulation results on the coverage probability and expected value of the generalized lower confidence limits are reported. The simulation results indicate that the proposed confidence intervals do provide quite satisfactory coverage probabilities.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the long-run availability of a parallel system having several independent renewable components with exponentially distributed failure and repair times. We are interested in testing availability of the system or constructing a lower confidence bound for the availability by using component test data. For this problem, there is no exact test or confidence bound available and only approximate methods are available in the literature. Using the generalized p-value approach, an exact test and a generalized confidence interval are given. An example is given to illustrate the proposed procedures. A simulation study is given to demonstrate their advantages over the other available approximate procedures. Based on type I and type II error rates, the simulation study shows that the generalized procedures outperform the other available methods.  相似文献

In many diagnostic studies, multiple diagnostic tests are performed on each subject or multiple disease markers are available. Commonly, the information should be combined to improve the diagnostic accuracy. We consider the problem of comparing the discriminatory abilities between two groups of biomarkers. Specifically, this article focuses on confidence interval estimation of the difference between paired AUCs based on optimally combined markers under the assumption of multivariate normality. Simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed generalized variable approach provides confidence intervals with satisfying coverage probabilities at finite sample sizes. The proposed method can also easily provide P-values for hypothesis testing. Application to analysis of a subset of data from a study on coronary heart disease illustrates the utility of the method in practice.  相似文献

The generalized bootstrap is a parametric bootstrap method in which the underlying distribution function is estimated by fitting a generalized lambda distribution to the observed data. In this study, the generalized bootstrap is compared with the traditional parametric and non-parametric bootstrap methods in estimating the quantiles at different levels, especially for high quantiles. The performances of the three methods are evaluated in terms of cover rate, average interval width and standard deviation of width of the 95% bootstrap confidence intervals. Simulation results showed that the generalized bootstrap has overall better performance than the non-parametric bootstrap in high quantile estimation.  相似文献

One of the indicators for evaluating the capability of a process is the process capability index. In this article, bootstrap confidence intervals of the generalized process capability index (GPCI) proposed by Maiti et al. are studied through simulation, when the underlying distributions are Lindley and Power Lindley distributions. The maximum likelihood method is used to estimate the parameters of the models. Three bootstrap confidence intervals namely, standard bootstrap (SB), percentile bootstrap (PB), and bias-corrected percentile bootstrap (BCPB) are considered for obtaining confidence intervals of GPCI. A Monte Carlo simulation has been used to investigate the estimated coverage probabilities and average width of the bootstrap confidence intervals. Simulation results show that the estimated coverage probabilities of the percentile bootstrap confidence interval and the bias-corrected percentile bootstrap confidence interval get closer to the nominal confidence level than those of the standard bootstrap confidence interval. Finally, three real datasets are analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The lognormal distribution is currently used extensively to describe the distribution of positive random variables. This is especially the case with data pertaining to occupational health and other biological data. One particular application of the data is statistical inference with regards to the mean of the data. Other authors, namely Zou et al. (2009), have proposed procedures involving the so-called “method of variance estimates recovery” (MOVER), while an alternative approach based on simulation is the so-called generalized confidence interval, discussed by Krishnamoorthy and Mathew (2003). In this paper we compare the performance of the MOVER-based confidence interval estimates and the generalized confidence interval procedure to coverage of credibility intervals obtained using Bayesian methodology using a variety of different prior distributions to estimate the appropriateness of each. An extensive simulation study is conducted to evaluate the coverage accuracy and interval width of the proposed methods. For the Bayesian approach both the equal-tail and highest posterior density (HPD) credibility intervals are presented. Various prior distributions (Independence Jeffreys' prior, Jeffreys'-Rule prior, namely, the square root of the determinant of the Fisher Information matrix, reference and probability-matching priors) are evaluated and compared to determine which give the best coverage with the most efficient interval width. The simulation studies show that the constructed Bayesian confidence intervals have satisfying coverage probabilities and in some cases outperform the MOVER and generalized confidence interval results. The Bayesian inference procedures (hypothesis tests and confidence intervals) are also extended to the difference between two lognormal means as well as to the case of zero-valued observations and confidence intervals for the lognormal variance. In the last section of this paper the bivariate lognormal distribution is discussed and Bayesian confidence intervals are obtained for the difference between two correlated lognormal means as well as for the ratio of lognormal variances, using nine different priors.  相似文献
