In this article, we focus on the general k-step step-stress accelerated life tests with Type-I censoring for two-parameter Weibull distributions based on the tampered failure rate (TFR) model. We get the optimum design for the tests under the criterion of the minimization of the asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimate of the pth percentile of the lifetime under the normal operating conditions. Optimum test plans for the simple step-stress accelerated life tests under Type-I censoring are developed for the Weibull distribution and the exponential distribution in particular. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the proposed design and a sensitivity analysis is conducted to investigate the robustness of the design.  相似文献

This article presents a new procedure for testing homogeneity of scale parameters from k independent inverse Gaussian populations. Based on the idea of generalized likelihood ratio method, a new generalized p-value is derived. Some simulation results are presented to compare the performance of the proposed method and existing methods. Numerical results show that the proposed test has good size and power performance.  相似文献

Consider the multiple hypotheses testing problem controlling the generalized familywise error rate k-FWER, the probability of at least k false rejections. We propose a plug-in procedure based on the estimation of the number of true null hypotheses. Under the independence assumption of the p-values corresponding to the true null hypotheses, we first introduce the least favorable configuration (LFC) of k-FWER for Bonferroni-type plug-in procedure, then we construct a plug-in k-FWER-controlled procedure based on LFC. For dependent p-values, we establish the asymptotic k-FWER control under some mild conditions. Simulation studies suggest great improvement over generalized Bonferroni test and generalized Holm test.  相似文献

The k nearest neighbors (k-NN) classifier is one of the most popular methods for statistical pattern recognition and machine learning. In practice, the size k, the number of neighbors used for classification, is usually arbitrarily set to one or some other small numbers, or based on the cross-validation procedure. In this study, we propose a novel alternative approach to decide the size k. Based on a k-NN-based multivariate multi-sample test, we assign each k a permutation test based Z-score. The number of NN is set to the k with the highest Z-score. This approach is computationally efficient since we have derived the formulas for the mean and variance of the test statistic under permutation distribution for multiple sample groups. Several simulation and real-world data sets are analyzed to investigate the performance of our approach. The usefulness of our approach is demonstrated through the evaluation of prediction accuracies using Z-score as a criterion to select the size k. We also compare our approach to the widely used cross-validation approaches. The results show that the size k selected by our approach yields high prediction accuracies when informative features are used for classification, whereas the cross-validation approach may fail in some cases.  相似文献

This paper is a continuation of one (1992) in which the author studied the paradoxes that can arise when a nonparametric statistical test is used to give an ordering of k samples and the subsets of those samples. This article characterizes the projection paradoxes that can occur when using contingency tables, complete block designs, and tests of dichotomous behaviour of several samples. This is done by examining the “dictionaries” of possible orderings of each of these procedures. Specifically, it is shown that contingency tables and complete block designs, like the Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test on k samples, minimize the number and kinds of projection paradoxes that can occur; however, using a test of dichotomous behaviour of several samples does not. An analysis is given of two procedures used to determine the ordering of a pair of samples from a set of k samples. It is shown that these two procedures may not have anything in common.  相似文献

In this article, a repairable system with age-dependent failure type and minimal repair based on a cumulative repair-cost limit policy is studied, where the information of entire repair-cost history is adopted to decide whether the system is repaired or replaced. As the failures occur, the system has two failure types: (i) a Type-I failure (minor) type that is rectified by a minimal repair, and (ii) a Type-II failure (catastrophic) type that calls for a replacement. We consider a bivariate replacement policy, denoted by (n,T), in which the system is replaced at life age T, or at the n-th Type-I failure, or at the kth Type-I failure (k < n and due to a minor failure at which the accumulated repair cost exceeds the pre-determined limit), or at the first Type-II failure, whichever occurs first. The optimal minimum-cost replacement policy (n,T)* is derived analytically in terms of its existence and uniqueness. Several classical models in maintenance literature could be regard as special cases of the presented model. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, under Type-I progressive hybrid censoring sample, we obtain maximum likelihood estimator of unknown parameter when the parent distribution belongs to proportional hazard rate family. We derive the conditional probability density function of the maximum likelihood estimator using moment-generating function technique. The exact confidence interval is obtained and compared by conducting a Monte Carlo simulation study for burr Type XII distribution. Finally, we obtain the Bayes and posterior regret gamma minimax estimates of the parameter under a precautionary loss function with precautionary index k = 2 and compare their behavior via a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

The inverse Gaussian family (IG) (μ,λ) is a versatile family for modelling nonnegative right-skewed data. In this paper, we propose robust methods for testing homogeneity of the scale-like parameters λi from k independent IG populations subject to order restrictions. Robustness of the procedures is examined for a variety of IG-symmetric alternatives including lognormal and the recently introduced contaminated inverse Gaussian populations. Our study shows that these inference procedures for the inverse Gaussian scale-like parameters and their properties exhibit striking similarities to those of the scale parameters of the normal distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss an estimation problem of the mean in the inverse Gaussian distribution with a known coefficient of variation. Two types of linear estimators for the mean, the linear minimum variance unbiased estimator and the linear minimum mean squared error estimator, are constructed by using the squared error loss function and their properties are examined. It is observed that, for small samples the performance of the proposed estimators is better than that of the maximum likelihood estimator, when the coefficient of variation is large.  相似文献

The k-means algorithm is one of the most common non hierarchical methods of clustering. It aims to construct clusters in order to minimize the within cluster sum of squared distances. However, as most estimators defined in terms of objective functions depending on global sums of squares, the k-means procedure is not robust with respect to atypical observations in the data. Alternative techniques have thus been introduced in the literature, e.g., the k-medoids method. The k-means and k-medoids methodologies are particular cases of the generalized k-means procedure. In this article, focus is on the error rate these clustering procedures achieve when one expects the data to be distributed according to a mixture distribution. Two different definitions of the error rate are under consideration, depending on the data at hand. It is shown that contamination may make one of these two error rates decrease even under optimal models. The consequence of this will be emphasized with the comparison of influence functions and breakdown points of these error rates.  相似文献

Greenwich and Jahr-Schaffrath (1995) introduced a new index C pp a simple transformation of the index C pm , which provides an uncontaminated separation between information concerning process accuracy and process precision. Under the assumption of normality, we first show that the estimators of C pp proposed by Greenwich and Jahr-Schaffrath (1995) are UMVU estimators. We also show that for the inaccuracy index, the variance of the unbiased estimator is smaller than the mean squared error (MSE) of the natural (biased) estimator for n > 3. In addition, we obtain the r-th moment and the probability density function of these estimators.  相似文献

Our paper provides sample size formulas for multiple comparisons of k treatments with a control as well as with pairwise comparisons of k treatments when observing proportions. The test statistics we regard use the arcsin transformation of the proportions. We determine sample sizes with preassigned all-pairs, any-pair and per-pair power considering the control either of the comparisonwise or of the familywise type I error rate.  相似文献

In genetic association studies, detecting phenotype–genotype association is a primary goal. We assume that the relationship between the data—phenotype, genetic markers and environmental covariates—can be modeled by a generalized linear model. The number of markers is allowed to be far greater than the number of individuals of the study. A multivariate score statistic is used to test each marker for association with a phenotype. We assume that the test statistics asymptotically follow a multivariate normal distribution under the complete null hypothesis of no phenotype–genotype association. We present the familywise error rate order k approximation method to find a local significance level (alternatively, an adjusted p-value) for each test such that the familywise error rate is controlled. The special case k=1 gives the Šidák method. As a by-product, an effective number of independent tests can be defined. Furthermore, if environmental covariates and genetic markers are uncorrelated, or no environmental covariates are present, we show that covariances between score statistics depend on genetic markers alone. This not only leads to more efficient calculations but also to a local significance level that is determined only by the collection of markers used, independent of the phenotypes and environmental covariates of the experiment at hand.  相似文献

We study confidence intervals based on hard-thresholding, soft-thresholding, and adaptive soft-thresholding in a linear regression model where the number of regressors k may depend on and diverge with sample size n. In addition to the case of known error variance, we define and study versions of the estimators when the error variance is unknown. In the known-variance case, we provide an exact analysis of the coverage properties of such intervals in finite samples. We show that these intervals are always larger than the standard interval based on the least-squares estimator. Asymptotically, the intervals based on the thresholding estimators are larger even by an order of magnitude when the estimators are tuned to perform consistent variable selection. For the unknown-variance case, we provide nontrivial lower bounds and a small numerical study for the coverage probabilities in finite samples. We also conduct an asymptotic analysis where the results from the known-variance case can be shown to carry over asymptotically if the number of degrees of freedom n ? k tends to infinity fast enough in relation to the thresholding parameter.  相似文献

Simultaneously testing a family of n null hypotheses can arise in many applications. A common problem in multiple hypothesis testing is to control Type-I error. The probability of at least one false rejection referred to as the familywise error rate (FWER) is one of the earliest error rate measures. Many FWER-controlling procedures have been proposed. The ability to control the FWER and achieve higher power is often used to evaluate the performance of a controlling procedure. However, when testing multiple hypotheses, FWER and power are not sufficient for evaluating controlling procedure’s performance. Furthermore, the performance of a controlling procedure is also governed by experimental parameters such as the number of hypotheses, sample size, the number of true null hypotheses and data structure. This paper evaluates, under various experimental settings, the performance of some FWER-controlling procedures in terms of five indices, the FWER, the false discovery rate, the false non-discovery rate, the sensitivity and the specificity. The results can provide guidance on how to select an appropriate FWER-controlling procedure to meet a study’s objective.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the Bayesian prediction problem of the number of components which will fail in a future time interval. The failure times are distributed according to a finite mixture of a general class of distributions. Type-I censored sample from this nonhomogeneous population and a general class of prior density functions are used. A one-sample scheme is used to predict the number of failures in a future time interval. An example of a finite mixture of k exponential components is given to illustrate our results.  相似文献

Epstein [Truncated life tests in the exponential case, Ann. Math. Statist. 25 (1954), pp. 555–564] introduced a hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-I hybrid censoring) and Chen and Bhattacharyya [Exact confidence bounds for an exponential parameter under hybrid censoring, Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 17 (1988), pp. 1857–1870] derived the exact distribution of the maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) of the mean of a scaled exponential distribution based on a Type-I hybrid censored sample. Childs et al. [Exact likelihood inference based on Type-I and Type-II hybrid censored samples from the exponential distribution, Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 55 (2003), pp. 319–330] provided an alternate simpler expression for this distribution, and also developed analogous results for another hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-II hybrid censoring). The purpose of this paper is to derive the exact bivariate distribution of the MLE of the parameter vector of a two-parameter exponential model based on hybrid censored samples. The marginal distributions are derived and exact confidence bounds for the parameters are obtained. The results are also used to derive the exact distribution of the MLE of the pth quantile, as well as the corresponding confidence bounds. These exact confidence intervals are then compared with parametric bootstrap confidence intervals in terms of coverage probabilities. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the methods of inference developed here.  相似文献

Kumar and Patel (1971) have considered the problem of testing the equality of location parameters of two exponential distributions on the basis of samples censored from above, when the scale parameters are the same and unknown. The test proposed by them is shown to be biased for n1n2, while for n1=n2 the test possesses the property of monotonicity and is equivalent to the likelihood ratio test, which is considered by Epstein and Tsao (1953) and Dubey (1963a, 1963b). Epstein and Tsao state that the test is unbiased. We may note that when the scale parameters of k exponential distributions are unknown the problem of testing the equality of location parameters is reducible to that of testing the equality of parameters in k rectangular populations for which a test and its power function were given by Khatri (1960, 1965); Jaiswal (1969) considered similar problems in his thesis. Here we extend the problem of testing the equality of k exponential distributions on the basis of samples censored from above when the scale parameters are equal and unknown, and we establish the likelihood ratio test (LET) and the union-intersection test (UIT) procedures. Using the results previously derived by Jaiswal (1969), we obtain the power function for the LET and for k= 2 show that the test possesses the property of monotonicity. In this paper, we suggest a least squares procedure for the determination of the number of upper outliers in an exponential sample by minimizing sample mean squared error. Moreover, the method can reduce the masking or “swamping” effects. In addition, we have also found that the least squares procedure is easy and simple to compute than test test procedure T k suggested by Zhang (1998) for determining the number of upper outliers, since Zhang (1998) need to use the complicated null distribution of T k . Moreover, we give three practical examples and a simulated example to illustrate the procedures. Further, simulation studies are given to show the advantages of the proposed method. Finally, the proposed least squares procedure can also determine the number of upper outliers in other continuous univariate distributions (for example, Pareto, Gumbel, Weibull, etc.). Finite mixture models arise in a natural way in that they are modeling unobserved population heterogeneity. It is assumed that the population consists of an unknown number k of subpopulations with parameters λ1, ..., λk receiving weights p1, ..., pk. Because of the irregularity of the parameter space, the log-likelihood-ratio statistic (LRS) does not have a (χ2) limit distribution and therefore it is difficult to use the LRS to test for the number of components. These problems are circumvented by using the nonparametric bootstrap such that the mixture algorithm is applied B times to bootstrap samples obtained from the original sample with replacement. The number of components k is obtained as the mode of the bootstrap distribution of k. This approach is presented using the Times newspaper data and investigated in a simulation study for mixtures of Poisson data.  相似文献
