For many years there has been interest in families of bivariate distributions with the marginals as parameters. Questions of this kind arise if one is to build a stochastic model in a situation where one has some idea about the dependence structure and marginal distributions. In this article, among all bivariate distributions which satisfy the constraints imposed by the known marginals and/or dependence structure, one that has the maximum entropy is obtained by using iterative procedure, and its convergence is proved.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a new stationary first‐order non‐negative integer valued autoregressive process with geometric marginals based on a generalised version of the negative binomial thinning operator. In this manner we obtain another process that we refer to as a generalised stationary integer‐valued autoregressive process of the first order with geometric marginals. This new process will enable one to tackle the problem of overdispersion inherent in the analysis of integer‐valued time series data, and contains the new geometric process as a particular case. In addition various properties of the new process, such as conditional distribution, autocorrelation structure and innovation structure, are derived. We discuss conditional maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters. We evaluate the performance of the conditional maximum likelihood estimators by a Monte Carlo study. The proposed process is fitted to time series of number of weekly sales (economics) and weekly number of syphilis cases (medicine) illustrating its capabilities in challenging cases of highly overdispersed count data.  相似文献

The Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern (FGM) family has been investigated in detail for various continuous marginals such as Cauchy, normal, exponential, gamma, Weibull, lognormal and others. It has been a popular model for the bivariate distribution with mild dependence. However, bivariate FGMs with continuous marginals on a bounded support discussed in the literature are only those with uniform or power marginals. In this paper we study the bivariate FGM family with marginals given by the recently proposed two-sided power (TSP) distribution. Since this family of bounded continuous distributions is very flexible, the properties of the FGM family with TSP marginals could serve as an indication of the structure of the FGM distribution with arbitrary marginals defined on a compact set. A remarkable stability of the correlation between the marginals has been observed.  相似文献

In this paper we construct a bivariate gamma mixture distribution by allowing the scale parameters of the two marginals to have a generalized Bernoulli distribution. We study the statistical properties of this distribution and discuss the estimation of the parameters. The distribution is then fitted to two bivariate data sets. Data on the age and lactation period of cows are described well by the proposed model, but it fails to fit Johansen's bean data properly because of theoretical constraints on the correlation.  相似文献

A random vector has a multivariate Pareto distribution if one of its univariate conditional distribution is Pareto and some of its marginals are identically distributed.A general method developed in the course of the proof of this result is applied also to characterize the multivariate Student (Cauchy) measure by one univariate Student conditional distribution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article extends the literature on copulas with discrete or continuous marginals to the case where some of the marginals are a mixture of discrete and continuous components. We do so by carefully defining the likelihood as the density of the observations with respect to a mixed measure. The treatment is quite general, although we focus on mixtures of Gaussian and Archimedean copulas. The inference is Bayesian with the estimation carried out by Markov chain Monte Carlo. We illustrate the methodology and algorithms by applying them to estimate a multivariate income dynamics model. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.  相似文献

Minimum information bivariate distributions with uniform marginals and a specified rank correlation are studied in this paper. These distributions play an important role in a particular way of modeling dependent random variables which has been used in the computer code UNICORN for carrying out uncertainty analyses. It is shown that these minimum information distributions have a particular form which makes simulation of conditional distributions very simple. Approximations to the continuous distributions are discussed and explicit formulae are determined. Finally a relation is discussed to DAD theorems, and a numerical algorithm is given (which has geometric rate of covergence) for determining the minimum information distributions.  相似文献

In this paper we present first order autoregressive (AR(1)) time series with negative binomial and geometric marginals. These processes are the discrete analogues of the gamma and exponential processes introduced by Sim (1990). Many properties of the processes discussed here, such as autocorrelation, regression and joint distributions, are studied.  相似文献

Frequently, contingency tables are generated in a multinomial sampling. Multinomial probabilities are then organized in a table assigning probabilities to each cell. A probability table can be viewed as an element in the simplex. The Aitchison geometry of the simplex identifies independent probability tables as a linear subspace. An important consequence is that, given a probability table, the nearest independent table is obtained by orthogonal projection onto the independent subspace. The nearest independent table is identified as that obtained by the product of geometric marginals, which do not coincide with the standard marginals, except in the independent case. The original probability table is decomposed into orthogonal tables, the independent and the interaction tables. The underlying model is log-linear, and a procedure to test independence of a contingency table, based on a multinomial simulation, is developed. Its performance is studied on an illustrative example.  相似文献

In this paper, a special class of m-dimensional distribution functions which can be uniquely determined in terms of their 2-dimensional marginals is studied. The members of the class can be characterized as having truncation invariant dependence structure. The representation given in this paper provides a physical meaning to the multivariate Cook-Johnson distribution, and introduces a systematic way of generating higher dimensional distributions by using rich 2-dimensional distributions provided that the 2-dimensional marginals are compatible. A class of 3-dimensional multivariate normal distribution has been generated and bounds in terms of lower dimensional marginals are provided.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Recently it is observed that the inverse Weibull (IW) distribution can be used quite effectively to analyse lifetime data in one dimension. The main aim of this paper is to define a bivariate inverse Weibull (BIW) distribution so that the marginals have IW distributions. It is observed that the joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. Several properties of this distribution such as marginals, conditional distributions and product moments have been discussed. We obtained the maximum likelihood estimates for the unknown parameters of this distribution and their approximate variance– covariance matrix. We perform some simulations to see the performances of the maximum likelihood estimators. One data set has been re-analysed and it is observed that the bivariate IW distribution provides a better fit than the bivariate exponential distribution.  相似文献

A new bivariate distribution with exponential marginals has been introduced by Singpurwalla & Youngren (1993). This distribution is absolutely continuous and has a single parameter. It was originally motivated as the failure model for a two-component system experiencing damage described by a shot–noise process. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. The first is to articulate on several aspects of this distribution, in particular, its genesis, the nature of its dependence, its correlation structure, and its generalized version as a two-parameter bivariate distribution with exponential marginals. The second purpose of this paper is more general. Prompted by the need to explain certain features of the bivariate distribution, it is found useful to introduce a new notion in reliability and survival analysis. This notion is called the "hazard potential", of an item susceptible to failure. The hazard potential is viewed as a kind of hidden parameter of failure models that delineates a cause and effect relationship in reliability.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

New generalized binomial thinning operator with dependent counting series is introduced. An integer valued time series model with geometric marginals based on this thinning operator is constructed. Main features of the process are analyzed and determined. Estimation of the parameters are presented and some asymptotic properties of the obtained estimators are discussed. Behavior of the estimators is described through the numerical results. Also, model is applied on the real data set and compared to some relevant INAR(1) models.  相似文献

Two multivariate stationary processes with general multivariate Weibull marginals are developed and studied. The joint distribution of the two adjacent events in the processes and the distributions of the finite sample minima as well as the geometric minima are derived. The characterization properties of these two processes are also proved.  相似文献

In this article, we first introduce an alternative way for construction of the generalized binomial thinning operator with dependent counting series. Some properties of this thinning operator are derived and discussed. Then, by using this thinning operator, we introduce an integer-valued time-series model with geometric marginals. Some conditional and unconditional properties of this model are derived and discussed. Some estimation methods are considered and for some of them, asymptotic properties of the obtained estimates are derived. Performances of the estimates are discussed through some simulations. Finally, a real data example is considered and the goodness-of-fit of this model is compared with the models based on the binomial, negative binomial, and dependent binomial thinning operators.  相似文献

The present paper develops a procedure for simulating multivariate data with count and continuous variables with a pre-specified correlation matrix. The count and continuous variables are assumed to have Poisson and normal marginals, respectively. The data generation mechanism is a combination of the normal to anything principle and a newly established connection between Poisson and normal correlations in the mixture. A step-by-step algorithm is provided and its performance is evaluated using two simulated and one real-data scenarios.  相似文献

This paper proves continuity of f-projections and the continuous dependence of the limit matrix of the iterative proportional fitting procedure (IPF procedure) on the given matrix as well as the given marginals under certain regularity constraints. For finite spaces, the concept of f-projections of finite measures on a compact and convex set is introduced and continuity of f-projections is proven. This result is applied to the IPF procedure. Given a nonnegative matrix as well as row and column marginals the IPF procedure generates a sequence of matrices, called the IPF sequence, by alternately fitting rows and columns to match their respective marginals. The procedure is equivalent to cyclic f-projections. If the IPF sequence converges, the application of the continuity of f-projections yields the continuous dependence of the limit matrix on the given matrix. By generalized convex programming and under some constraints, it is shown that the limit matrix of the IPF sequence continuously depends not only on the given matrix but also on the marginals.  相似文献

The Joy of Copulas: Bivariate Distributions with Uniform Marginals   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We describe a class of bivariate distributions whose marginals are uniform on the unit interval. Such distributions are often called “copulas.” The particular copulas we present are especially well suited for use in undergraduate mathematical statistics courses, as many of their basic properties can be derived using elementary calculus. In particular, we show how these copulas can be used to illustrate the existence of distributions with singular components and to give a geometric interpretation to Kendall's tau.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a bivariate weighted exponential distribution based on the generalized exponential distribution. This class of distributions generalizes the bivariate distribution with weighted exponential marginals (BWE). We derive different properties of this new distribution. It is a four-parameter distribution, and the maximum-likelihood estimator of unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. One data set has been re-analyzed and it is observed that the proposed distribution provides better fit than the BWE distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a bivariate discrete generalized exponential distribution, whose marginals are discrete generalized exponential distribution as proposed by Nekoukhou, Alamatsaz and Bidram [Discrete generalized exponential distribution of a second type. Statistics. 2013;47:876–887]. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution is a very flexible distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution can be obtained as a special case of this distribution. The proposed distribution can be seen as a natural discrete analogue of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivariate Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. We study different properties of this distribution and explore its dependence structures. We propose a new EM algorithm to compute the maximum-likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters which can be implemented very efficiently, and discuss some inferential issues also. The analysis of one data set has been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, we propose some open problems and conclude the paper.  相似文献
